    Why is it that almost all older educational videos are MILES better at explaining concepts and technology to people? I feel like our culture is losing their way in the art of explaining things and education in general, these videos are so simple and know exactly which words to use and demonstration displays to show. Thanks for posting this, after 27 years I now know how a thermostat works.

      Getting worse at a global scale too. Now they are pushing Political Correctness in History, Science, and even Math. I am amazed at just how far we are falling.

      I don't see what political correctness has to do with it. There is an intentional dumbing down of the population (e.g. hollowing out of public education) so that you can piss on their shoes and tell them it is raining.

      Could be survivorship bias. Probably plenty of crappy explanations background then too that simply didn't get copied and preserved

    I remember this show "Mr. Wizard's World" like it was yesterday. It aired not only on Nick(Nickelodeon) but also in Canada on Global TV in the 80's and 90's.

    Older thermostats (like the ones in my home) have a mercury switch, which I guess have been discontinued to avoid mercury pollution. But were they more accurate I wonder? They seem to control the temperature very accurately.

    • @DethWshBkr
      @DethWshBkr 4 года назад +3

      No. The accuracy is not nearly as good as a modern thermostat.
      The mercury is NOT the temperature sensor, but the conductive electrical material.
      The bimetal is what senses the temperature, but over years of flex, the metals begin to separate. At that point, you will have wildly inaccurate readings.
