Force Allow Apps On External in Developer Options definitely helps with the speed mine is much faster with hardly any lagging but obviously you have to have a USB Drive or SD Card connected to it in order for it to work. I wish Google would allow you to make a External USB Drive or SD Card as Device Storage like the Nvidia Shield allows hopefully they will add that feature when they Update it to Android 12.

It's every couple months. First time update usually occurs during setup and you're too busy setting it up to notice
