How to Update Your RV Fridge

Is your rig equipped with a traditional refrigerator that could use an updated look? This is actually an easy appliance to modify, with little cost and skill required. Whether you’re wanting to sand and paint your current fridge paneling or totally update it with a fun wallpaper design, there are several ways you can bring your outdated fridge back to life.
Remove fridge panels. First, you’re going to need to remove your fridge panels by opening the fridge or freezer doors and removing the trim piece from the side of the door (this is usually on the left side). Once the trim is removed, you can slide the panels off of your refrigerator.
Choose your project. You can either replace your fridge panels with new, updated paneling-or, you can upgrade your old paneling on your own. If you choose to replace, remember to accurately measure your panels before ordering your replacements.
Raised paneling. If your fridge has raised, cabinet-like paneling that you’re wanting to upgrade, you’re most likely going to want to sand and paint your panels. You can use cabinet paint and a sponge roller or paint sprayer to tackle this project.
Flat paneling. For refrigerators designed with glossy, flat panels, you’ll either want to replace your paneling entirely, or flip the paneling over to modify it. If your fridge came with raised paneling but you’d rather have a flat look, you can remove your raised panels and replace them with an underlayment board that’s cut to size. This will give you the flexibility to finish your paneling in a number of ways with paint, wallpaper, a clear wood finish, or another fun design.
Chalkboard paint. Another creative way to update flat paneling is with chalkboard paint. This finish will give you a space to write notes and grocery lists, or provide your kids with a fun area to draw.
Wallpaper. Flat paneling can also be modified with wallpaper. Once your panel is removed, place your wallpaper over it and cut it to size. Then, simply stick your wallpaper to your paneling and slide it back into your fridge door. You can choose from a variety of designs and colors to make your fridge a truly unique piece in your kitchen.
Dry-erase board. Similar to a chalkboard finish, a dry-erase board will give you a space to make lists and notes in your kitchen. You can easily replace your old paneling with a dry-erase board that’s been cut to the same size. This idea also works with galvanized steel.
