The Hyundai Santa Fe was a very practical and accommodating vehicle for the time but its whole package of standard features and Warranty were very strong selling points. The design was interesting and the Santa Fe proved comfortable and reliable in service so it was a strong seller. Many owners bought repeat Santa Fes from Mk1 to Mk3 and indeed we can still buy a Top notch luxurious Santa Fe SUV today. I can neither deny or confirm if Porsche had a hand in the original Santa Fe's ride and handling but it does remain a very interesting second hand Classic.
I don't think Porsche had much to do with the ride and handling, as it was all a bit wallowy. They didn't sell many of these in this country, but that has all changed in the last fifteen to twenty years. Thank you ever so much indeed once again, sir!
It handles as well as it looks - which is not very good at all! Its not a car that you drive for enjoyment. That being said, it is competent at most things
I never warmed to this era of Korean car design. It's like they took the 2000 Ford Taurus as the pinnacle of good taste and based everything on it. Blech! But these Santa Fe/Sorentos were quite capable cars and good value. 2.7 V6?, lovely, sir. Are those perforated seats? My goodness, the luxury!
Sir, have you ever seen the Hyundai XG30? That is the most American looking car that was not made by an American company I have ever seen, and was introduced at around the same time as the Santa Fe.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Yes, indeed, sir. Thankfully the Koreans found their way our of this dark alley after having the realisation that no one can do gaudy American better than the Americans, so don't bother!
They certainly aren't common over here, which is why I was very excited when Gareth offered me the chance to have a go in this one, which has been in the family for years. The later Santa Fes were more successful over here, I think.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Thanks for your reply I am surprised to hear there not popular I guess different markets get different results I really liked Renaults they don't sell them over here I had a 16 and loved it best regards Andy Allen.
Is that engine not loosely based on the Honda/Rover KV6 engine, bored out to 2.7 litres, which is why it sounds so fruity. Certainly reminded me of my old Zt-t190+

Exactly, with cars like the original i20 and i30, Hyundai found their rhythm on the international market and have been upping their game ever since.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Do you remember the Hyundai Terracan ? I sometimes see the odd one .
@@lordstiffupperlip3095 , yes, sir, we remember those, they weren't a big seller over here.
Hi Joseph these are still being made here and are very popular with soccer moms you see them everywhere best regards Andy Allen

Yes, no Renaults, but plenty of Nissans, I imagine.
I love the car
It's effectively been in the same family from new.

No, nothing to do with it whatsoever.
An excellent review as always Sir, really love the sound of the Creamy V6.
We most certainly do enjoy that cream V6, sir.
I think you're driving the Mark 2. I can remember the Mark 1 from 1999.
My sister has a 7 seat version.
There was no seven seat version of the Santa Fe at the time and this is 100 per cent a Mark I. You must be thinking of the larger Hyundai Terracan.
I've lots of respect for Hyundai cars, never known anyone to have had a bad experience with one.
Yes, I have sourced an awful lot of them for clients, and I think two of the Hyundais on the channel I found myself.
If i had to get a Santa Fe, it will be this! Not a fan of how the model has progressed till date.
It's much, much larger these days, isn't it?
They are very reliable. There are people in America who have hundreds of thousands of miles on their 2.7 V6's. Mine is only on 45000!
I thought all these cars had engines Sadiq Khan doesn’t approve of .
That is not true, sir, fortunately.
Yeah you were lucky to find a petrol one 👍
@@TrevorBuick , we aim to please, sir!
@@TrevorBuick It has a 2.7 V6 petrol. It combines the economy of a V8 with the performance of an inline four 🙂
