Genshin gameplay is unironically better than this. At least in ganshin you have to use different elements and your surrounding to your advantage - it really is refreshing. Looking more closely now, is anyone else tired of how dilapidated the buildings always are? With Soulsborne games and now this game... why does everything have to look like engineers and repairmen were ethnically cleansed 1000 years ago? If the devs just wants to have a dark feel, then Anor Londo in DS1 (less so in DS3) was a good compromise because the story gives it a dark aura but we still get to see some sweet well-maintained marble castle. Can't they do that again? I feel like doing ruined castles is a cheap shortcut to making things look more complicated and therefore this is seen as being more lifelike and praiseworthy.

I mean isn't that kinda the main theme of the souls games? It wouldn't really feel right if there was huge, luxurious houses every turn in a game like darksouls, a game made to appear dark and moody with undead and monsters everywhere. Though I do agree with you, places like Anor Londo are really refreshing after having seen nothing but broken down buildings.

@@muilas6061 I think people are wrong for saying it's the same, but saying it looks nothing similar is also wrong (Depends if you mean "visually looks" or "seems similar".) Some things are very similar, some things are very fresh like the first reply.
To me I think the open world aspect would have been nice to see in DS2... it was such a flat land, so that you couldn't see a whole lot of other areas besides the one you were inside. And I thought that was a big appeal in DS1 was how you could see the lava place and ash lake from the tomb of giants for example. But it was possible because all these areas were stacked on top of each other, in a very packed way. DS2 was so wide, so, I don't know if this made sense but basically I am excited to see how they finally get to do a wide world but now you should finally be able to see more areas at a time.
I only ever cared about the cool views and art direction tbh. Unfortunately Forsen will never ever notice anything besides the foreground. And he manages to turn his camera away from every single canned view the game desperately wants you to appreciate. Or he looks for a half second, but only on accident... shame.

People whined in chat about "reused assets" and what not. "Dark souls 3.5" etc.
First of all, I'd really love it if it was just dark souls 3 in a less linear world, with most of the design flaws of DS3 fixed. This game has changed and improved most mechanics people disliked in DS3, in addition to just having more and different content in terms of weapons and builds you can use.
Most notably: poise works, magic is good, weapon arts can be changed and are more useful, the game is not linear, you can make your own dual wield weapon pairs with unique movesets, weapons in general have more moves, and there is proper jumping.
If it was just that, I'd still love it. But it is not only that. From the looks of it, this game plays fundamentally different in the way you approach it. You're not just going through a linear path, exhausting dead ends for scraps of loot.
You have a whole open map that you can explore and defeat in just the order you like.
And last, if they changed one old emote, or one weapon that appears in dark souls, everyone would lose their minds over it and go "eww, not my dark souls game, why isn't this more souls like".
