saw the mighty mentals two weeks ago at ettalong diggers,it was the best gig i've been to in 20 years it was sold out and everyone got into it,made it a great great night
Now this is a great song , fast moving rockabilly .. I looked forward each night when they played this song ,as it was great for lighting . Strong and powerful song. RIP Andrew/Greedy.. Such a great man he was too.. Lighting Operator ,Live it up Tour .. Chris Simmons
I've been watching music videos of this fabulous band now for hours, not going to pretend I know them well, but concluding one thing; this band must be Nr 1 in having fun together and being original, and that's worth a lot of respect, wish I could have a drink, no, a lot of drinks with these guys!
My favourite mental`s tune produced by declan Mcmanus (Elvis Costello) played the heck out of it , rest easy Greedy and thank you for the tunes, great music and the meeting at the plantation hotel in Coffs all those years back ,, imagine a good friend says we are going to see a local band and it costs 5 bucks to get in the door ,, imagine my surprise when these misfits took the stage ,, best ever 5 bucks spent ever and a great show ... r.i.p
They were not Australia's version of Madness. They were just Mental As Anything. Whilst I understand the comparison from those who look at both bands on the surface, the truth is that Mental As Anything were a combination of Australian humour, Australiana and art-school. They were not a ska-pop band that taken cues from Ian Dury's early career. Plus, the name Mental As Anything was an popular Australian phrase at the time and had been used in the band since its formation in 1976.
I still have a compilation on vinyl from 1982 (I was 10), which features this track. The song immediately after this was Goanna's immortal, "Solid Rock". Also featured were Icehouse, "Great Southern Land" & Mondo Rock, "The Queen & Me". Memories... vale Andrew "Greedy" Smith...
@TruBluHeeler I still have my copy of 1982 with a bullet , great memories for me livin in oz at that time, I would have been 14 at that time, and saw the mentals, live it up tour, in dysart, central Queensland, back in 1985, happy days🇭🇲🥁🎸
Good to see they're appreciated. Mental As Anything have pulled almost all their videos off youtube, and are only making their videos available on Itunes. The Mental As Anything videos you see on youtube is only a quarter of the videos they had produced in the 1980's.
hi cockney, i get these videos from various sources... some are commercially available; others on limited release VHS compilations and some are quietly handed to me by either the artists themselves, fans or collectors. This was a rip from the Monumental video tape... I just reworked the sound and picture quality. I'll be getting my hands on more obscure Mental As Anything videos soon.
@nzoz1982 these are the hardest working (performing band) that I know.. have seen every time they are in west oz... (ok I know I am A stalker) but this is the best band ever
at 1:05 he rolls his eyes at that he is being Mean within the fact, has given of him in the way, too such things witch is to being the mean, and so you wouldn't have to be a new blind Yetty to understand that it has become what is for the most this the Mean.
Can somebody be kind enough to let me know where this vid was shot? - looks like summerbay territory?? Imagine the fines you'll pay now having the coppers get ya making a clip like that these days!! I was 13 in 82 & we had cool cats to look up to..r.i.p. Greedy..

RUclips have blocked that Little Heroes song from being viewed in the UK and US. It sort of defeats the purpose of youtube, but the 'law' is the law...pathetic as it is.
Martin channelling his inner Elvis

I agree they were just mental as anything doing and creating great music icons legends really
Precisely. Their name came from one of the songs in their repertoire, originally by Prince Buster.
Reg and Peter are New Zealanders i think
nice video!

In a band of true artists, Greedy was the artist extraordinaire.
Thanks for the irreverent colour, Greedy Smith.
very creative, considerating this was in 1982 !!
yay. im off to see the mentals this weekend
The clips were a big part of their success - pretty amazing!
Reg used to get voted best guitarist in the old ram magazines. Deservedly so.
best dance band ever
Mental band, underrated nowadays. Absolute song-smiths with two competing lead vocals, no doubt upped the anti
Vale Greedy, we'll miss ya
think Elvis Costello produced this song and agree 100% with nzoz1982
I was actually quoting Greedy Smith, he said it on a episode of Countdown, I'll take his words over anybody else thank- you very much!
Good to see they're appreciated.

Why did they remove them? Just curious.
Thanks so much for uploading this. Such an underrated song IMO.

I think it was written by Martin Plaza and produced by Elvis Constello
written and produced by Elvis. I just forgot to write that up in my description.
Not written by Elvis Costello. it was written by Martin Plaza. Elvis Costello only produced it
@nzoz1982 these are the hardest working (performing band) that I know.. have seen every time they are in west oz... (ok I know I am A stalker) but this is the best band ever

Australia's version of Madness!
@MsTROYHARRIS ugh... what?
RUclips have blocked that Little Heroes song from being viewed in the UK and US. It sort of defeats the purpose of youtube, but the 'law' is the law...pathetic as it is.
