If you're going to do it by hand turn it upside down on a towel on a table, counter or workbench and you'll have much easier access to the entire exterior surface of the pot. Or the buffing wheel as others have suggested.

it didnt do anything you need more elbow grease or a machine buffer

YOU ARE WASTING EFFORT & TIME! REMOVE ALL JEWELRY! Now go into garage use polishing rouge & stand buffing wheel. OH by the way, you will need a heavy duty shop apron, to do actual polish. Just wearing true work clothes would maybe get you in my door - if you could corral the hair.
