  • Let's have a closer look at the fully electric BYD HAN. How good is it in the real world scenarios?
    I'm testing:
    - Acceleration 0-100 km/h, 0-60 mph
    - Range & consumption
    - Cabin noise

    The reason for low result on acceleration test is that BYD is automatically lowering the output when its low temeratur and you are using winter tyres. As you can see in the video you had as a maximum 280 kw output from the battery, Thats 380 PS. Not 508 as its should be. If you do the test in summer climate and with 80 % soc you will get 0-100 in 3,9 sek.

    • @ItsOnlyElectric
      @ItsOnlyElectric  Год назад +20

      Yes, the output is clearly lower than the specified 380kW. So you are probably right.

      While that might be true, other EVs also accellerate slower in winter due to winter tires and colder battery.
      My YP does however still pull quite hard, even on 21" winter wheels. But the 3P I had pulled much harder.
      The X I had in 2017-2018 however I felt was more affected by cold weather accelleration, wheres the 3P had a quite linear accelleration even at about 30-40% SoC. But at around 20% SoC then I felt it became quite "slow" (still much quicker than normal cars, but in winter with 20% SoC I think maybe it was doing 0-100 in 4 ish seconds, my butt dyno would guess)

    • @ItsOnlyElectric
      @ItsOnlyElectric  Год назад +6

      Most of the cars I have tested are not or marginally effected by the cold weather as long as the road are dry and tires warm and cleab enough.

      @@ItsOnlyElectric I think that's just different philosophy for the engineers when it comes to how a car should drive in various conditions and what's more important for their car, sportiness or comfort? The Han EV is meant to be more like a luxury sedan in its EV families, therefore the reduction in power output would be more of a safety and comfy concern.

    New to your channel, looks good, just a minor pointer on the "real" range vs WLTP:
    Bear in mind that the average speed of the WLTP is much much lower (46.5km/h or 53.5km/h without stops) than the average speed you stated for your cycle (93km/h). Then again, the WLTP probably has more stops & accelerations than your cycle, and then there's the temperature as you mentioned, tyre type, tyre quality, tyre pressure, surface smoothness (Swedish asphalt tends to be more coarse than most European counterparts to give better friction and winter durability), and so on and so forth.
    But yeah, if you want to get a more WLTP comparable range test you should probably include more slower segments, or perhaps "simply" do a second "city driving" range test cycle.
    edit: and to make your tests more comparable between cars, you probably want to adjust for actual cabin temperature, so perhaps bring your own thermometer and set the temperature according to that one instead?

    • @ItsOnlyElectric
      @ItsOnlyElectric  Год назад +4

      Hello and welcome! 🙂
      The purpose of the range test is not to mimic the WLTP cycle but rather to test what range you get in a more life like scenario. The "track" consists of a mix that's close to what you drive on a family trip on a weekend.
      The temperature advice is something I need to consider. The Chinese cars especially feels a lot colder running on 20° degrees than a lot if other brands and that may comsume less energy on the winter but more on the summer. But nevertheless a very small difference in the result. Normally the AC consumes 2-4% of the energy on the test. A 1-2°C difference in cabin temp will affect the range with a very small margin in this case. But let's say it may add or deduct 1% to the consumption in worst case.
      Thanks for taking time to elaborate .

    The reality in the US is that people are driving 75-85 MPH (125-135 k/h) on the interstates (freeways) and I always see the electric cars in the slow lane conserving battery power.

    • @D00MINIK
      @D00MINIK 5 месяцев назад +2

      But that may also seem more present because of the "red car" - syndrom. Surely, more EV Driver than Ice do that, but in your case you're specifically looking for that and an ice car in the slow lane might not even catch you attention. On the other hand, if you're self driving in the fast lane you 're not likely to see so many different cars there because they drive the same speed only a few cars distant.....

      @@ItsOnlyElectric I was driving my 2023 berlin YP in the mountains in Norway.
      So when the roads are dry I got about 150-154 in consumption, driving over the mountains in the west coast here (bergen=>sogn og fjordane).
      Quite amazed how effciccient the YP is, I did preheat the battery before departure by charging last 5% before driving and also precondition with AC running.
      On my way back I thought: now my consumption will be much higher, as Im driving alone (and then more jerky accelleration, to enjoy the geforce).
      But lo and behold, I landed in the mid 150s (155), guess it was also due to the fact that after some hours of driving (2--3); I was in a line of cars driving. The cars were doing maybe average 70km/h, some times higher, some times lower.. So not really a queue, but a column of cars. While thats a low avg speed, it was still mountain driving on the 21" Nokian R5s.. But I think the OEM 21 wheels while very heavy - still have a great aero design. So while they of course are negative for accelleration and comfort, they are good for range I think. Of course a good aero wheel which is lighter, will further improve range.. But a light wheel with terrible aero might actually reduce range :-) (I actually saw one guy on youtube who got increased consumption with lighter rims on his model 3, as the aero of the wheels he changed to were not good).

I want a cost effective EV with good straight line performance. I tried the Byd Han on an event in Austria on a closed road with 64% SoC, Summertires and it was about 30°C (86F) outside. Car was in Sports Mode. Sadly i wasn't able to measure it with my Race Box but i made a Acceleration Video and if i time the Speedometer it needed about 6,5s to 100kmh (60mph) which was also how it felt. Maybe the Battery was here to hot (and in your test to cold), but we were pretty disappointed with the car. It moved fairly quick to about 50kmh (30mph) but than it just lost more and more power and doesn't felt quicker than the new Vw Id3 which we also tested in the same hour. All cars there hat the same conditions, a Model Y Performance with 60% SoC which shouldn't be much faster on Paper hammered like crazy and how I am used to feel with the Performance Models. Also a Bmw i7 which showed only 140km of Range left and is listed with 4,7s accelerated enormously stronger than the Byd, not even a competition. As i said, both my brother and i felt the Byd accelerated above 50kmh like the new Vw Id3 with only 204hp. There was also an official Guy from Byd who showed us the car. Track and Conditions where absolutely the same for every vehicle with under an hour being driven apart, everytime with 2 Persons in it. Thanks for you're honest review and measurements with Race Box. Another car that seem to lose much power when not full is the MG Marvel R, listed with 5s to 100kmh, Auto Motor Sport measured it with just about under 9s with 46% SoC multiple times. I would be very interested in a under 50% measurement of the new MG 4 Xpower.

It was a car testing on a Track, you weren't supposed to "race" the car there, i got a warning for a bit of too much tire noise/ Power Oversteer with the Model Y in Track Mode (from the Guards of the Track, not from the Tesla Guys), but it could have been that the Han was pushed very fast through this Track ( which was about 1.5-2km, i think,) and than had about 5 min resting time before we got into it. But than again i don't think that the Tesla Model Y Performance was treated much better. We had two chances to stop and accelerate from 0, one time steep hill, one time straight to 115kmh, and both times the car felt above 50/60kmh like an id3. But on the Steep Hill i just saw on my Video that the Byd just showed 204Kw at 70kmh and above, that seems reasonable, 280hp in a big Limousine... But i don't know why it wasn't putting more power. At the speed below 70kmh sadl i couldn't see how much it said to put out.

      @@ItsOnlyElectric One question: did you preheat or drive the car a bit before the Acceleration Testing or do you think the Battery could have been nearly Oitside Temp cold (4°C)? This wouldn't be an excuse for Byd because a Tesla Model 3 with a 4°C cold battery should still get about 450hp, but it would be an explanation. I personally drove a Model 3 for over a month, and during that time, Tesla experienced a number of issues including constant crashes, strange gear shifting, and slow charging speed. I later chose the Han, and have been driving it for 3 years without any malfunctions, even without encountering a single crash. The comfort is comparable to that of a BMW 5-series car. Moreover, the Han charges faster than the Model 3 on a V3 supercharger by 20 minutes using a regular charging station. Seeing so many people bashing BYD in the comments section makes me very confused. I previously had doubts about BYD's quality, but I purchased a BYD Han due to a bet that Trump would be elected. As it turned out, I lost the bet and was forced to buy the Han. However, the quality control of the Han has exceeded my expectations, even surpassing the quality of my previous Tesla and Honda Accord by two levels.

      Nice try genius but you don't seem to know much about diesels.
