The bot problem seems to be mostly fixed, only on more popular maps and modes. For example, 2fort barely has any bots, while lets say something like.. an unpopular map... could be filled with them.

But yes, it does take place within half-life's story line, but we do not actually know if Opposing Force is currently considered by Valve to be cannon as a completely different game developer worked on it. Nothing so far directly contradicts Opposing Force and it is neatly interwoven with everything that is happening in Half-Life, so I consider it canon until shown otherwise by Valve.

Fun fact: There was an original diffirent lost version of team fortress 2 back in the year 1999 and the pictures of the dust map for the diffirent version of team fortress 2 is inspired to create the De_Dust Map for the Counter Strike we know today
Mann vs machine was one of the most fun things valve has created. The concept is definitely not original, but it worked so well given there are many classes to play, as well as a variety of weapons to use for a unique experience. There were thousands of ways to strategize and speedrun the game.

I know it wasn't official, but back when tf2 first came out there was a big split between me and my buddies i played TFC with in middle and high school (god how old am i again?) Over tf2 vs the Fortress forever source mod that was basically tfc in the source engine and which one we should be playing. Some of them werent fond of the changes in tf2 (i definitely didnt agree, the grenade spam was real) It wasn't official so thats probably why it wasnt mentioned, but there was definitely some heated debate for a short while.
I miss the times when the backburner gave you +50 hp to health. Just imagine. The game is not even a year old yet, no one really knows how to play it, and then a weapon comes out for the most broken and easy-to-play class that makes from him a miniature heavy with 225 hp. This shit was unstoppable. P.s The thought that modern tf2 players were 2-3 years old at that time makes me feel old. I have been living for 28 years, of which I have been playing tf2 for 15 years. How quickly time flies...
