Literally. Slang is for situations where your language is more lax and you slip into terms to shorten the concept you're trying to explain, and also include meme references and funny shit and all around, well, slang. Then there's more formal but still predominately informal conversation for day-to-day life, and then formal speak for like jobs and shit. That's also why having parents imitate slang is so uncomfortable, because they often have a place of authority and hierarchy or what have you, plus power imbalance, which means that you generally take a more moderate language route, the formal informal I mentioned, where you're somewhat relaxed, but still careful of what you say. You have more of a filter. If they imitate slang, they're using it in the improper setting, hence it feels uncomfortable and forced. At least, that's my theory.
The problem with making fun of accents is that it makes it hard for those learning English as a second language to be excepted by simple-minded people that focus more on the sound of your accent than you as an individual who’s trying his/ her best to communicate Edit: Wow, never have I had this much likes before, thank you😅
I've never understood the obsession many Americans have with making fun of different accents (I'm American ) like what's so funny... they could do that to us too yk
@L S You’re seriously defending accents from being able to made fun of? Are you serious? Next thing you’re gonna say we can’t make fun of rugby because it’s big in England. Just because it’s a stereotype of a culture doesn’t make it invulnerable from humor. Speaking of humor, you should try getting a sense of one. (Not defending SNL tho, they’ve sucked for years)
D'Angelo, I am a journalist. Hearing you talk about how you couldn't make the videos about David Dobrik or James Charles is something I resonate with entirely. I have had to step away from several stories because I could not mentally get through them, or if I tried to write on it my opinion would clearly seep through. That didn't make the situation any less serious, just as you said, but I am a person. I am so proud of you for doing the same thing. What you did in response to what you were feeling is not only healthy but also super professional. To be able to look at something and simply understand, "no, I cannot and will not dedicate my time and energy to this" is something a lot of people in my field struggle with on a day to day basis, and I am so happy and relieved that you prioritise your mental health and still be eloquent in your explanation. Take your time, stay healthy, and I wish you the best. I'll see you next video :)
The talk show skit reminds me of iCarly. Like, I can see Sam ending a story “...and that’s why I’m not allowed at red lobster.” And then Carly would just randomly put on a hat cause random is funny.

I kinda feel like the writers found out Elon musk was gonna be on so instead of putting out good sketches they wanted to put out extremely terrible ones so the episode would get the lowest ratings
@@thelordjesuschrist5017 perhaps the writers were pissed about a billionaire coming on, a very controversial one at that, and decided, "hey, screw the corporate managers deciding this. Let's at least make his episode suck so he'll never come back on and we'll never have to act like he's one of us again!"
@@thelordjesuschrist5017 But that's what they did. Some sketches are written months in advance and will go to a host they think could handle it, or just leave throwaway ones for throwaway hosts. They've done this before. This was one of the last shows in the season, and they were obviously cleaning house. They also left some of the worst for Keegan Michael Key, just cuz it's close to the end, but made sure the very last show was good.
If someone put a silly hat on and tried to make a middle schooler laugh they most definitely would've been bullied. No matter what age you are stay away from 13 year olds they're vicious, heartless, monsters.
The problem is that the show has gone on for way to long, the only way for it to continue is if they do serious restructuring, maybe increasing time between episodes to write better sketches, maybe the possibility of more standup, maybe hiring new writers and putting more effort into finding cast members, it’s something that must happen for the show to continue at even mildly funny.
More than the cast they need new writers. If the current staff can't utilize Keenan Thompson, Kate McKinnon and Pete Davidson properly and consistently, what hope does a newcomer have?

What's sad is that some of the SNL actors and writers ARE really funny, but, idk wtf happens each week. I remember a lot of funny skits in the past but I think it's just that they're memorable. It really is just a small handful of skits that are really funny
i think a lot of it is just that there’s too much crunch. talented comedians are expected to write or learn a skit in a couple days max, so they don’t get any time to develop their ideas n do either aspect well
I mean when you're making a tv show in a week it's a *lot* and the quality is definitely going to be different to shows that are made over a period of weeks or months. I mean some of their sketches are not fully rehearsed before they go live, there have been some really topical moments in years gone by where they have literally put together a sketch in like the hour before the show started. It's a great and terrible way to make tv. It shouldn't work, most of the time it does, sometimes it doesn't. And very occasionally it's absolute gold dust.
i think it would be funny if they made some skits ahead of time. Like they have skits that are not live but they always come across as rushed and not funny. It's okay if some skits don't have the guest celebrity. Key and peele is funny and timeless and if SNL approached their pre-recorded skits in the same way it would be better.

The "aCceNt is fuNnY" skit irks me. I speak english fluently, but I'm not a native. In school, speaking english with a great accent is glorified, and those who speak English with broken intonation are often mocked. But I also have a national language and a dialect that I was born with (to which I ignored) and now it feels like I slowly lost my roots. I realized this when someone compared being proud of english speaking to "pagiging masaya sa luma at hiram na damit" (being proud of borrowed clothes). Now I decided to stop caring about the mispronouciations and when I just confuse everyone when I go off like "hambalon gani nako kag ako maguyang nak mahangit sa mga tawo nak uya respeto haleeee!"
This is interesting because I've heard from multiple people in differently countries that you're made fun of and seen as a try-hard if you speak English well in school. You're screwed no matter what lol 😂😭

I'm proud of you for embracing your roots 🙏 Even native English speakers get pointed out or laughed at if they have a unique accent. I'm from Texas, and my best friend from Germany used to often point out when I said "y'all" and find it funny. The youtuber Jacksepticeye used to fake an American accent because whenever he'd say something the "Irish" way his comments would be flooded with people pointing it out. Also, I saw a video of a woman talking with a New York or some northern accent and everyone was making jokes about 😐 It's so weird 'cause like of course people will talk differently, and if that weren't the case English would sound SO boring!
I have never heard a single one of the tik toker Gen-Z people they're mocking say "catch these hands," "cuh" or "on gang." First off, you really don't want to be saying cuh at all. Second, nobody says "on gang", it's always "on my moms" or something similar. That skit made me wish I had no ears.
Yikes. Really reminds me of the whole "Disco Demolition Night" riot in 1979 where people were invited to destroy disco records. Many of the records brought for destruction weren't even disco, they were (just) by Black artists. :(

Of course no gen z-er in their right mind would talk like that in such a serious scenario, but the "joke" is just looking at an extreme instance to poke fun of our generation. You aren't supposed to take it literally. And in regards to the use of AAVE within the sketch. I don't think the sketch is appropriating anything further than gen z slang already has stolen.

What's sad is that some of the SNL actors and writers ARE really funny, but, idk wtf happens each week. I remember a lot of funny skits in the past but I think it's just that they're memorable. It really is just a small handful of skits that are really funny
i think a lot of it is just that there’s too much crunch. talented comedians are expected to write or learn a skit in a couple days max, so they don’t get any time to develop their ideas n do either aspect well
It's like famous poets. Most of them only have a handful of great poems, that become popular.
I definitely think that the majority of the skits that Pete Davidson's in are on the funnier half of the skits.

Also, I saw a video of a woman talking with a New York or some northern accent and everyone was making jokes about 😐 It's so weird 'cause like of course people will talk differently, and if that weren't the case English would sound SO boring!

first drink plenty of water eat healthy don't watch too much tv go outside more exercise more get off social media don't find everything offensive don't look to others to validate your existence learn to care less smoke weed every now and ......then do all of that and you're cured cuz remember it's all in your head it isn't real the real problem is you.
@@layton6202 I know you mean well, but a large part of getting better personally is acknowledging that my family’s history of mental illness isn’t my fault and won’t go away with a lifestyle change. I’ll never be ‘cured’, but I will hopefully be able to coexist and developed healthy coping mechanisms.
@@layton6202 thank you for encouraging me and for the advice tho! Today’s been one of the better ones I’ve had in awhile
Stay strong, I believe life has so much good to offer ahead of you!

“Her drip is eternal” is funnier than anything SNL has done in the past decade
Drip eternal
@BigTurqouise Pencil DRIP. IS. ETERNAL
SNL used to be so funny :(
I've always thought the name Elon Musk sounds like a brand of fragrance.
Out of context, Wario’s theme song sounds more like a spy theme than a villain theme
Makes sense since Wario is a professional treasure hunter. His entire motive is "get the bag" 😂😂😂
I have no idea why they are doing Pete so dirty he is by far the funniest person on that show
RIGHT
Cause for them, it's so easy to make of the guy who has serious mental health issues and the fact that his dad passed in 9/11 (so double trauma), so he's a punching bag but because he's a good sport about it they don't stop, so they continue even knowing his history🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
He's the only funny person on that show that isn't Kenan.
YES
Nah Michael Ché is
Mentally healthy D'Angelo is more important than 6 days a week talk about James Charles D'Angelo.
When you need a break we can always rewatch your other videos so we don't miss you too much.
Don't burn out, take care of yourself first.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news.. but taking this much time out of your day to complain online is not “mentally healthy”.
This kid is a weirdo.
shoutout to D'Angelo for having a love-hate relationship with grimes, like meee 😭
Everyone reacting to Grimes and Elon musk's bad accents/impersonations of peach and Wario is just so much more funny than the actual skit
Wait, Grimes was Peach this whole time. I didn't know :/
@@EliTheMonKEE101 apparently a lot of people didn't know which is so funny cause isn't the audience suppose to clap for cameos like that? Lmaooo
I knew that was Grimes 😃
@@EliTheMonKEE101 Wait I had no idea either lolol
@@jadeastraea I think some people also thought she was an actress that's a SNL regular and didn't think much about it. They do look really similar after all
With the Gen-Z skit, we talk like normal ppl with formalities such as hospitals, the only time i ever talk REMOTELY like that is with friends, and even then its just "Yoooooo, hey! how are you" "u ok bestie?" etc as. a. joke.
This implies that “gen z slang” is an actual thing, and not just AAVE being used by young people
To be fair tho, the skit is satire (albeit executed poorly, and rather out of touch).
Especially given that the writer of this sketch, Michael Che, is a black man. You could even argue that it's shedding even further light on the fact that gen z has appropriated so much slang from AAVE, to a ridiculous extent that what they're saying doesn't even make sense anymore

Bruh...its a joke. They dont actually think you act like that 24-7
The only shining aspect of Elon Musk's life are the emeralds from his dad's South African aparthied emerald mines
also his cars to..............there pretty shiny
That makes his dad a terrible person, I don’t think he chose to be born into that family
@@alexsiemers7898 Musk still CHOSE to use his father's money for his own gains instead of giving anything back (+all the other horrid things he does with his money). He didn't choose where he was born but he does choose to continue to profit off of an unethical system.

Good for you D’Angelo, looking after your mental health is more important than anything and it makes me so happy that you recognise that❤️
I feel like that skit making fun of AAVE is something SNL will never be able to shake off.
could you tag the moment where it says that? I can't find it, no disrespect
