The majority of these audiobooks, which were converted from audio cassette tapes into digital Mp3 files are over 30 years old. Some of the cassette tapes had to be taken apart and spliced back together, which can be a very delicate procedure. Just a little something I thought I would do so I could salvage these particular works and share these with others before the tapes and tape players deteriorated completely and before the world of analog recording becomes completely obsolete. Most are not true books because they are abridgements. When I first started collecting these audiobooks, unabridged books on tape were either very rare or extremely costly. Many thanks x
The movie" the 13th warrior" is this story, And it is a very good movie, the sound track alone makes it worth watching
Hella great ambience seriously
Thank you. I was wondering about that!!!!
Indeed! Great movie and amazing soundtrack!
“Grendel” is a good movie version also.
I just started realizing that as I was listening.
Chrichton is one of the best authors the world has ever known in my humble opinion. So sad that he is no longer with us. They say we die two times, once when we stop breathing and once the last time our name is ever said. He will live on for ages still.
He is a literary god I was just thinking how all his novels are amazing
Well said
Absolutely. For this generation, Joe Abercrombie is my favorite. If you like grim dark fantasy, start with The First Law trilogy, the first book being The Blade Itself. It's also free here on RUclips and the narrator is just as good as Victor Garber was on this story. If you check it out, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. It really is magnificent.
I've wanted to read this book for years , so to find the audio version made my day.
Is nobody going to mention how magnificent the narrator was? One of the best I've heard. Bravo Victor Garber!
He was amazing!

I saw 13th Warrior in theater and have watched it many times since. Always was curious about this book.. thanks for making it available in such a convenient form!
Read the book 30+ years ago and have worn out 3 DVD's of the movie. This is one of the greatest stories ever told.
I am with you on that. I was on a cruise and figured out I needed to read until I went back. That was the best book I picked up. ..and I have seen the movie. Anything by Crichton is very good
Based on one of the greatest epics ever told, Beowulf!
13th Warrior is my favorite movie, I never get tied of it.
Yes Love It
Agreed! I think Jean Auels The Earth's Children series is also one of the best stories ever told, however The Clan of the Cave Bear (being the first book of the series) is one of the worst movies ever made.
I was a Extra in "The 13th Warrior". It was a great experience. You can see me in the funeral pyre scene with my red fox pelt over my shoulder.
BTW, though we tried to sing the dirge, we actually sang "Doo Wah Diddy", as we marched down for the pyre. ✌
Wow thank you for taking the time to make this available to all of us. A treasure for sure.
One of my favourite movies ever ! Now I’m listening to the book ❤ thank you so much for the upload. Cheers
Thanks for your efforts to keep and save this work!! ❤
A film i have watched more then any other..loved it, loved this.
Thank you so much😊
What a fascinating yarn. I loved it. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this as a memorable part of my life
I read "Jurassic Park" in third grade. Crichton is the reason for my love of reading.
Thanks for posting, I really enjoyed it.
THANK YOU SOOOOO much for letting all listeners know this book is ABRIDGED instead of putting "Full length" I AM going to give it a go.
Simply amazing great story great narration! Outstanding! More!
Heyyyy… this is the 13th warrior! Rewatched a year or two ago - still holds up!
I found an audiobook in the library years back, found it one of the most interesting stories I'd heard and totally fell for it being a real person and his story. The only disappointing thing was it's fiction. Even though, you'll like it.
Crichton 's comments throughout & at the end add a lot.
I remember having to find my copy of Jurassic Park to prove to my 11 year old niece (at the time) that it was a book long before a movie.
Google it bro.
I read this when it first came out and thought it was very interesting.
"Lo, there do I see my father..."
Perhaps there is no magic today because of "science" - - But our friend the Arab lived a life as exciting as Tolkien's Hobbit - - The mystery and unknown wove such a great adventure around him - -
Well said.
magic IS high science.
Thank you
Thank you.
Great story!!
Classic.
My favorite author 😮
Awesome!!!!
One of my personal favorites, great story.
The difference between ibn Fadlan's depiction of norsemen and the way they are seen in the sagas is almost as wide as an ocean.
An underrated film shame I liked it
This is 13th warrior?
Yea, verily
Yes
@@scottbilger9294 😀👍🏼
Is this an edited-down version of the book or do I have some old edition i'm reading from? There's a bunch of sentences on the page that the audio seems to skip over.
(The narration is still lovely though)
Your mom's a wonderful person. I can tell because you turned out the same. Thank you, subscribed whether you care or not!
Thanks!
The manuscript of Ibn Fadlun's account of the Norsemen is available to read online. As a Muslim and as a descendant of Norsemen I found it fascinating.
I'm really curious about how accurate this was. Much seems accurate & believable, while some seems far fetched.
@@michaelbrinks8089 it seems legit to me. Also, in Islam it is a big sin to make up lies and report them as if they are true
Very good movie. I knew it from the title.
The monsters fit the descriptions of bigfoots. It makes me wonder if the Northsmen also have legions of these creatures.
Yup!!
One of my favorite story's. I loved this book, 13th warrior th movie, and beowulf which is the book is loosely based on. It's a trifecta of favorites for me. Haha!
Praise not the day until the night has come......
Is anyone aware of the theory that they were fighting Neanderthals? Or maybe some kind of hybrid humanoid species? I read some interesting material on that, basically saying that a genus of prior humanoid species survived in the far north away from modern humans after the rest of their kind had been push out or bred into modern humans. Very fascinating, to think that a real life monster story could be true. It's certainly believable considering we know there is Neanderthal dna in people near that region, so my thoughts are the first true humans to breed with true Neanderthal would create a 50/50 hybrid race, watered down of generations yes, but if a pocket of them survived up north, possibly inbreeding as well, could create a type of human that resembles the eaters of the dead.
Yes, I've heard that theory.
An excellent book. When the movie was made, I thought the screenplay would not translate well from the book. But I was very wrong....the movie ably told the story.
We who are not present always speculate the truth is always subjective
One of only a few books I've read multiple times...
Is this abridged? Or is it the full book?
The really good movie 13 warriors Is based on this book the book is excellent
Michael Crichton is an excellent writer1 of his other books that I love is known as the prey And other great books this eaters of the dead is my And other great books this eaters of the dead is my ultimate favorite
* _The Thirteenth Warrior_
This story sounds like a twisted version of beowulf
What does un/abridged mean?
It means not abridged (shortened)
IOW, the full text, in case anyone wondered
@@pdevllc7007I.O.W what the meaning of it.
😊
Somebody needs to go metal detecting where those kings ships were burned. When you seeing horse and human bones your getting close.
”Beowulf & Grendel,” right? 😹. Nasty business. Fetter- foul smelling. Stink/ stench. Fetid…. Strange word change⚡️🤔
Audio Book
Judging by his accent the Arab warrior must have lived in Pakistan for a long time ! 😳
I would never have guessed Apu had an adventure with vikings!
Read this in the 90s... really liked the comparison between Cultures.. and The Superiority of the Eastern People in Education Hygiene Medicine and damn near everything else! Movie was pretty good too... liked Banderas but, wondered WHY an Arabic actor wasn't used....
To be fair, Banderas is Spanish. The Iberian Peninsula was under Islamic rule for much of the Middle Ages, it was a province called Andalusia, there was inter-marriage and strong cultural influence. So, it isn't far-fetched to have an Iberian looking man as an Islamic envoy for the Caliph.
@@dacedebeer2697 didn't mean to imply Anything negative about Banderas and your assumption on the Iberian connection is spot on... meant that I was just curious why... actually, am a fan and thought He was Great! I know the story is fiction but the History is correct..The Islamic World was light years ahead of the West in almost everything..

Jewish 'History' -European- is a closer equal in many areas (as well as 5,000yr old China)...They just, 2024, stoned a 'princess of the Saudi Royal family...dead. I knw 1ex. does not equal the whole though.
I'm in agreement, that the Islamic World has always been full of scholars/brilliant minds..
I just think, ' light years ahead of the West in almost everything,' is quantifiable by what, exactly? 12,000 years, we could make 'true-ish' not disprovable statements such as..
" The history of the 240 yr US-West-has more tech advancements/med/scientific leaps of understanding than the " Islamic Worlds' past 300 yrs.." Not provable but a good-ish case could be made.

So crazy. Listening to missing 411 led to UFOs and Bigfoot. Deep rabbit hole Bigfoot is. Now listening to this book and I will be damned…😂 Bigfoot against the Vikings and Muslims. Epic
Although I can't agree with all of his views, he sure can tell a great story.

I never knew this was made into a "major motion picture" where there are no apes being cut in half with lasers and Brice Campbell
*
Yes i know that is Congo. That's why i said NO Bruce Campbell + Lasered apes. Gee whiz, i know my schlock, okay.
PS: if Eaters of the Dead movie has Bruce Campbell OR laser apes, please let me know and i will get really blazed and try to watch it. I don't think that is the case, but would love to be wrong here.
Also, what other good films have lasers cutting apes in half? Anyone? There has to be more than one. I'm pretty sure there has to be an entire sub-genre of movies where apes get cut in half with fake unreal laser technology. Help me out here.
Ibn Fadlan is the ONLY person to testify to a lot of degenerate stuff that no one has ever seen 'vikings' do besides him. Ibn Fadlan was a propagandist, however. And he met a group of Rus, not norsemen. He also said they had writing from the Quran painted on their flesh in green ink. From this Hollywood has taken it to mean they had tattoos, when in reality he was saying straight up they had writing from the Quran written on them in green ink. He knew what tattoos were. He didn't say tattoos. Also there's no such thing as green ink for tattoos and wasn't until about ten years ago, so it certainly wasn't a tattoo. He also brought up a lot of other out of character stuff. It was all probably propaganda because his job was to basically travel the world and tell the Islamic world how savage we all are without Islam.
Little triggered there, aren't we?
Islam.... A raw nerve?
The vast majority of what he notes everyone agrees the vikings did. A general apathy toward nakedness and sexual matters, their uproarious and violent personalities, their tradition of washing their faces in the same washbasin along with the spitting and blowing their noses into it, their high level of superstition. If you think Fadlan is just pandering to the Muslim culture go to the official website of the University of Cambridge. They have free PDFs detailing Frankish and English journals and treatises marking the habits of the vikings. Every account agrees they were in truth one of the most violent and filthy groups of people to exist. It is actually modern Western culture that has propagated the vikings to seem the paragon of civil rights, cleanliness, women's rights, and tolerance. They were not. They were incredibly racist and xenophobic towards any peoples that are not their own. They have a long history of demanding a respect of their traditions, while at the same time spitting on everyone else's. They were such POSs to everyone around them that countries that HATED each other have allied to put an end to their raiding, murdering, plundering, and (even though people like you deny it) their systemically ingrained rape culture. I guess you getting triggered made me triggered, however it annoys tf outta me when the ignorant viking dick riders act like the vikings were the most progressive culture to exist.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

No such thing as green ink for tattoos until ten years ago? GTFO...
This was written into a movie with Gerard Butler...can't recall name. Oh yeah. Beawolf

Another linguist!!! There are Many many accents! India is a big place. There are many different Arab accents. There is Arab influence in India and Indian influence in Arab lands!!!!
It is not Indian😂
Great story. Read the book and was somewhat bothered that the movie didn't follow the book. Some things obviously were done for cinematic purposes, but I'm a purest. Same with Jurassic Park.
Film adaptations are almost never faithful. The medium isn't conducive
