In this street photography (Monochrome Black & White) video I find myself on the backstreets of Liverpool street. We are looking for the contrast between light and dark and capturing subjects as they interact with the light and shadow. We take inspiration from Alan Schaller and other photographers in this style.
I share my photography tips, what I am looking out for and my camera settings.
I love this style of photography, Alan Schaller has taken some wondeful picture strolling around the streets of London.
I used RS MONO Lightroom presets for this set of images - www.etsy.com/s...

My favorite saying was the title of a video Alan did for Leica was "The Liberation of Limitation". Working with your equipment constraints and exploiting them. I have ditched my camera bag with multiple lenses in it or as a female photographer once said, "My insecurity bag" To get into the Schiller mindset, you have to have both discipline and creativity. One camera, one lense, and doing it in monochrome. Having limitations makes you a more creative photographer.
Absolutely agree with you.we would love to see your images in the Facebook group
Also my most favourite video.
Keep it simple with just 1 wide angle and zone focus
Love this, it’s obviously a skill ‘seeing in B&W’. I’d not have thought of firing bursts of shots. 🤦🏻♂️
It really helps in catching that pivotal moment.
Great job. I also love to do street photography but with rainy days 👌👌

I really enjoyed this. I follow Alan and watch all his stuff, it's always interesting but he never quite gives advice on how to achieve his style of photography. Having watched your channel, I have now tried your technique and the results were really encouraging. You've given me inspiration to get out there and do more street stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Im really glad that you enjoyed the videos and the advice that I am sharing.I want to help people create beautiful photos so that they can create a body of work for themselves. Make sure that you join the Facebook group and our growing community
Really good photographer. Given me some inspiration
Thanks, I appreciate your support. I'll be doing some workshops soon if you are interested. Make sure that you join the FB group
@@roni_sidhu I am in Melbourne Australia, I joined the FB group yesterday but maybe it's only for London photographers?
Why do you say that? It's for photographers all over the world and I intend to do photography workshops in different countries
@@roni_sidhu you asked on FB
Really good work as ever ❤
Thank you so much 😀
This is really well done and interesting. The images are superb. I think you've convinced me to try out this technique next week.
Thank you very much! Glad to hear that you enjoyed the video, I'll be doing more like these in the coming weeks. I'll also be doing some workshops so make sure you join the FB group
@@roni_sidhu I'll be watching all of the videos for sure. I would be very interested to know more about workshops but I am not on FB.
Schaller is my favorite. But as you might know Alan doesn't work as fancy as you are doing with your touch screen, subject focus detection, and so on.
He uses manual focus, applying the Zone focus method, wich gives a better understanding, than just point and shoot with fancy focusing systems like from Canon.
I do use Zone focus on a Nikon D750 with a manual focus 28mm. Like that you will not have distractions as fancy touch screens.
I use the touch screen so that I can show the viewers what I am doing. If I am out by myself I will use the view finder. Everything I am doing in these videos is to help the viewer and teach what I am doing.
great work, how did you focus btw
Many thanks. Auto focus and expose for the highlights. Make sure to join our Facebook group, link under the video
Fine job. You, sir, need a K3iii, the new monochrome Pentax DSLR.
I'm currently looking at a new camera, I didn't know about the K3iii, I'll take a look at it. Thanks. Make sure that you join the FB group and post your pictures
How is that area called were you where from minute 23?
I saw it was alongside the river were you could see The Shard on the other side .
Walk across London bridge to the opposite side. Do a right and go down the stairs, you will see the location
@@roni_sidhu thanks, I’ve never been to London yet.
Hi,wich aperture do you use normaly?
It depends on the frame. Usually between 2 and 6
You should do a gallery exhibition in Maddox
Hopefully one day - 😁😁
I love this class, well done. Question, why did you use f2.8 or 3.2 (resulting in high shutter speed, for freezing the motion?) or for shallow depth of field?
I'm glad that you enjoyed it. So in this video and type of photography I set my minimum shutter speed to 1/250. I select my F stop depending on the depth of field that I want. Make sure that you join the Facebook group and post your pictures, let grown this community
Fishing , spray and pray 😂
What do you mean by spray and prey?
“To dispense anything in an uncoordinated manner, hoping to reach the desired target through luck.”
@@jaunman71oh, that's what you think that I am doing here?
What focal length did you use here?
Shot on a 50m canon lens
@@roni_sidhuThought that already 😉.
I can’t believe you only got 300 subs I think it not about the subs?
It's a new channel and I am putting in the work to make it grow. I really appreciate your comments and support. Workshops coming soon! Make sure that you join the FB group
Nice job. What time of day?
This was shot at 1pm until 3pm on a sunny day. Make sure that you join the Facebook group where I can answer all your questions and we can post our photos. Also I will be announcing workshops where we go out and take photos like in the video.
