Thank you for watching my reaction to Lethal Weapon!! I cannot believe this is a Christmas movie. How did I never know that! Anyways I will probably not be reacting to the other movies in the franchise as I have a million other movies to watch… unless the other movies are really good. Let me know what you think and thanks again!!
Gibson is one of the best actors. His ability to show emotion with his eyes and facial expressions and no dialog is unmatched. If you haven't seen it yet, definitely check out Braveheart.
Lost Boys is a vampire movie with Kiefer Sutherland ('24' TV show), its an absolute classic, same with 1994 movie The Crow (with Brandon Lee - Bruce Lee's son)
This one, and part 2 have a special place in my heart. They filmed around the Los Angeles harbor and along the cliffs. That area is where I grew up back in the 80s. So these movies are like going to visit my hometown. Unfortunately California has changed too much for me to ever go back. But back in the 80s and 90s it was a great place to live. On a side note... those cliffs (picture Hunnsacker's place) are roughly 600-800 ft above sea level. In some places there are no guard rails or fencing, and its a sheer drop. As kids growing up in that area, you learn real quick to not mess around at the cliffs edge. But... accidents (and "intentionals") did happen. Many people have lost there lives acting carelessly around the cliffs.
Murtaugh and Riggs are the GOAT buddy cop duo. The characters work so well together the way they're written, and Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are not only great actors have awesome chemistry on top of that.
This is the greatest buddy cop series, especially because we get to grow with the characters and see their lives change over the years. I hope you'll reconsider watching the others!
The Lost Boys is a must watch for good movies of this time. The Last Starfighter is another one, although totally different film, is a great example of good movies of the time.
Trivia: Originally Richard Donner was going to be directing the Lost Boys but he was too busy with Lethal Weapon, so he left the dierctor chair and handed over to Joel Schumacher to direct the Lost Boys, but he stay in the movie as a executive producer.
Fun behind the scenes fact: Mel Gibson (Riggs) uses a Beretta as his gun in this film. That gun is the same one that Bruce Willis (John McClane) has in Die Hard. It isn't just the same type of gun, that is the actual prop gun Bruce uses from Die Hard.
For me, the 3rd is the best because Riggs meets his match; Lorna. She's an amazing badass and Riggs' soulmate. I'm glad they killed off Rika in number 2 because she was so wrong for Riggs and they were worlds apart
During the 80’s and 90’s the soda wars were going strong. Pepsi was on the heels of CocaCola, and trying to surpass them as the number one soda in America. So, Pepsi was buying up a lot of promotions.
React to the sequels, my man! And, just so you know, Eric Clapton (legendary blues guitar player) contributed guitar work to this score, which is part of the reason it's so iconic. Also, this script was Shane Black's first job, a big reason why he became such a hot commodity in Hollywood later - and why he got a spot as a wisecracking member of the squad in Predator. He became a pretty good director later on. Two of his movies to definitely check out are Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and the Nice Guys. Both laugh-fests with plenty of dark humor.
The precursor to this movie is Running Scared with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. I recommend you check that one out. They had the confidence to do Lethal Weapon after doing that movie.
About the jiu-jitsu, this movie gave the American public one of their first looks at Gracie jiu-jitsu, a martial art which became THE hot topic in martial arts and self defense circles in the early days of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Another Shane Black movie you would probably enjoy is "The Nice Guys" (2016). It's set in the 1980s and combines action, comedy, drama and well written, well acted characters with great chemistry.
dar robinson is a legendary stunt man that worked on lethal weapon, he didn't die on this movie, but he died in a crash around the release of te movie, so they dedicated the movie to him
Dar Robinson, legendary stunt man also was stuntman in 2 memorable Burt Reynolds's flicks. Sharkey's Machine, (1981) and Stick (1985). In Stick, he was both stuntman and played the part of an abino killer. There's a building falling scene so memorable and original to look out for.
If you want the mother of all helicopter stunt movies, check out Blue Thunder, with Roy Schieder - another 80's classic. AT LEAST watch the trailer. You will NOT be disappointed. Literally the most amazing helicopter piloting ever put on film, and an entertaining story to boot.
Yep, that's a saxophone. There was a lot of that in 80s movies. lol Oh, and guitarist Eric Clapton contributed to the musical score of the movie, which was composed by Michael Kamen, who also composed the music to Die Hard.
22:12 Funny enough, an action-comedy called "Air America" about those operations in Laos came out a couple years after this movie. It even starred Mel Gibson. Nobody remembers it, but it was pretty funny!
I'm glad you think this is a Christmas movie. Alot of people don't think this movie is... But it's definitely a Christmas movie to me. Lol. You really should continue the series with 2,3,and 4. The sequels are great with lots of comedy and action. Don't sell this film short. The sequels are equally as good so I'll leave it up to you. Great reaction as always. 😁
You should check out Point Break. It's anothe cop movie starring Keanu Reeves as the rookie and the villain from this movie Gary Busier as the veteran cop. Also patrick swayze in his prime. Great flick.
Also, you should watch the Director's cut, there are a few more scenes, one of which further shows Riggs' lack of fear of death. Also, you should do the whole series. It shows the full evolution of the characters. I can relate to Riggs' story arc, and except for Riggs being a cop and me not being a cop, mirrors my own. I lost my first wife to cancer(which is different than a car accident), but I fully understand no longer fearing death as a result of losing your spouse. I am remarried now, and quite happily so. OH. MY. GOD! I'm assuming that was your younger brother that appeared at the 22:40 mark..... dude.... you're NOT going to believe this, but he looks like a young Neil Finn! Now, I realize you probably have no idea who that is.... he was one of the lead singers of the 70s "New Wave" band Split Enz, and later in the 80s formed the band Crowded House. Don't believe me? Here, watch this: ruclips.net/video/NduGJ0F5sdI/видео.html Now, you tell me! Edit: Yeah, you HAVE to watch the sequels. They are definitely worth your time. Some say that they aren't as good because of how Riggs changes over the movies, but those people fail to understand that's how his character develops. In this one, his wife's death is still very recent. Also, he feels he has no reason to live, hence his fearlessness. By the end of the movie, when he gives Murtaugh "the bullet" he was going to kill himself with, it shows he is no longer suicidal, and he has the entire Murtaugh family as a reason to live. Riggs is more than just his partner in the PD, but he is accepted as part of their family. Also, they weren't rushed into to cash in on the original movie's popularity. There's a legitimate story arc that takes place, and it's very satisfying to see how it plays out. That is, of course, my opinion.
I'm glad you mentioned the soundtrack a few times Another noteworthy thing about Lethal Weapon that most people miss - the nature of the soundtrack. Hear that lone blues guitar riff that sounds Clapton-Esque? The guitar plays whenever it's a scene about Riggs or when there's a focus on his character. What about Murtaugh? You'll notice Murtaugh is always scored by a saxophone. In their respective scenes before they meet, they'll only have their 'own' instruments playing, but by the time they start working together (like the pool house scene), the instruments start playing in a duet, playing together. Framing all of this, the string section frames the narrative and adds necessary suspense in action scenes.
There are those that will call any movie set at Christmas time, a Christmas movie; while others will distinguish between movies in which the plot is Christmas-themed and those that are merely set at Christmas time, calling the former Christmas movies; while claiming the latter are not necessarily Christmas movies, but are appropriate to watch during the holiday season, because that's when they are set.
What makes the series great as a whole is that the Riggs character changes a little in each movie. In the third film he refers the Roger's family as his family. The line I don't remember quite right, but he says "I have a wife and three kids, they're yours Roger and I love them like my own." Basically calling him his brother without actually saying it.
If you enjoyed this film, there's a spoof version called Loaded Weapon I think you'd really enjoy. I'd recommend watching Lethal Weapon 2 first though as a lot of the jokes reference that film. Oh and never, EVER watch the TV series that span off from these films. In fact, if you see it in a shop, burn it with fire.
Lost Boys MUST be your next reaction! Classic vampire movie! I think you'll like it. Then do a whole Haim / Feldman run! They were in a bunch of movies together, License to Drive being one of my favorites too!
Unfortunately it will not be my next reaction as I film them around 2 weeks ahead so I can edit them in time as I also have school. But don't worry I will be watching that movie soon!!
Yes, there are a lot of beautiful shots and beautiful cinematography. Lethal Weapon was directed by Richard Donner, who also directed the original Superman.
I would love to see your reaction to a few of my favorites, if you have not seen them. Pulp Fiction , End of Watch, The Usual Suspects , A Fish called Wanda, The Thing ( with Kurt Russel )
When I was 19, I did a guy in Laos from a thousand yards out. It was a rifle shot in high wind. Maybe eight or even ten guys in the world could have made that shot.... It's the only thing I was ever good at.
michael kamen did the score. he had different instruments and music styles to represent each character. riggs was the electric guitar rock style, murtaugh is the jazzy saxophone. combined together with the orchestra for all the big action.
Dar Robinson was a famous stuntman in the 70s and 80s. Lethal Weapon was his 2nd last film. On the set of his last film (Million Dollar Mystery) he was killed in a motorcycle accident. His last three films all had dedications to his memory. One of his most famous stunts was jumping off the CN Tower in Toronto in 1980 with nothing but a 3mm steel cable wire tied around his waist and a braking system designed to slow his fall when he was close to the ground. Basically like a 1200ft bungee jump. He was a legend of a Man. Oh and you should at least watch Lethal Weapon 2 as it is a fantastic sequel!
11:21 the great Tom Atkins. He was also in, John Carpenter's The Fog, Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch and Atkins's most most memorable role in Night Of The Creeps (1986). All movies are highly recommended but if u had one movie to choose from, it would be Night Of The Creeps.
Dude. You're making me scrape my grinder.😜 My brother and I have been doing the "Riggs Roll" since 87'. You are easily one of the best channels because not only do you watch the most bitchin movies, you put up so much of the content. Its so rad. And I must say, you totally seem like an 80's kid. You respond to all of the same cool shit in these movies as us 80's babies did. Eric Clapton was no joke. In 63' he was a Yardbird and played with Jimy Page. He was an original Rock God and demonstrates the mindset and change in the approach to cinematic scores. Donner also Directed Superman and the GOONIES(please watch!). Please also watch Mad Max and Road Warrior(more cool shit). Stay cool and try saying "RAD" on for size. I bet you could sling that shit right out. Oh yeah and LOST BOYS is dope 80's fun. It was originally going to be more like GOONIES, but instead became young adult. Before then, teenagers were never made to be Hollywood Stars really. And it marks the paradigm shift in cinema where young adults became just as famous if not more than the older generation of Hollywood Stars.
Yes, Lethal Weapon and Die Hard are both Christmas movies... in that they are both set during Christmas, but Lethal Weapon came out in March of 1987 and Die Hard came out in July of 1988. LOL
You have to watch the rest of the films - there are 4 in total. They are all really superb. When you watch the third film, make sure to watch the post-credits scene. It’s the only post-credits scene of the series. I think you missed the detail of the ‘blonde’ guy. Roger’s daughter was dating a blonde boy, not Joshua. When they kidnapped her, they killed the blonde boy. That’s why Roger reacted that way, because he realized the kid who died was Rianne’s boyfriend.
If I recall correctly, the fellow's name is Al Leong, and he also made an appearance in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (in the role of Genghis Khan). 😎
You should definitely watch the sequels. All of them. Lethal Weapon 4 is actually my favorite of the series, and I have all of them on DVD. I cannot speak to the quality of the TV series, as I have not seen it.
As ridiculous that big martial arts fight even occurring would be the real world, it is 100%, pure 1980's machismo awesomeness! And I love it every time.
This was the movie that made the 9mm Beretta so popular it was the gun to own after this movie. Seemed like anyone buying a gun after this you didn't need to ask you already knew more than likely they bought a 9mm Beretta
I recommend all the sequels. LW 2 has Joe Pesci in a funny role vital to the movie and also Rigg's late wife LW 3 was ok, also Joe Pesci was more of annoyance, but there is a scene not to be missed. It has a dog, Mel Gibson and dog biscuits. Still a good movie though. Now I had worries about LW 4 because it was a movie that was rushed out and it had Joe Pesci again. Nope, Joe Pesci was not annoying at all. He had excellent banter with Chris Rock. Jet Li is also in the movie. There's a scene in a dentist office you might p while laughing. Yes it was written by same Shane Black. A big recommendation here is to go see Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang, (2005) also written and directed by Shane Black. It stars Robert Downy Jr. and Val Kilmer, a great duo most memorable and BIG recommendation.
I guess you're too young to remember the Cola Wars of the 1980s. lol In the 80s, Pepsi-Cola Co. started an advertising campaign called "The Pepsi Challenge," where they filmed people lining up at cola stands(similar to lemonade stands) where they would be given two plastic cups, one filled with Pepsi and one with Coke, but not told which one was which, and then asked to taste both and decide which one they liked best. Obviously, Pepsi always advertised themselves as the winner. lol It wasn't just cola, it was also Sprite vs. 7up, Burger King vs. McDonald's, Whopper vs. Big Mac, Wendy's vs. both of them, etc. lol
Sad, but in the movie Twilight Zone in 1982, a practical fx helicopter stunt went wrong and the star Vic Morrow and a 6 yr old girl and a 7 yr old boy were killed. John Landis was the director.
I hope you'll consider watching other 3 movies, at some point, when the mood hits. All four movies are close to the same quality, so if you liked first one, you'll enjoy others.
In my mind “Die Hard” beats Lethal Weapon by a few points due to the great action script and Alan Rickman, even though LW has much better character development, but LW is WAY BETTER as a series. DH just didn’t had legs for sequels and LW did. Also having the same director in all movies gives it more muscle.
Thank you for watching my reaction to Lethal Weapon!! I cannot believe this is a Christmas movie. How did I never know that! Anyways I will probably not be reacting to the other movies in the franchise as I have a million other movies to watch… unless the other movies are really good. You should watch The rest of the Lethal Weapon movies
All four are good movies. The time between the films is accounted for so you get see the character growth along the way as they age.
They ARE good!
Yes, it is the same Shane Black as in Predator 👍
Very good review 😁 The second film is even better. Then they are really fleshing out the caracters! 😁
Gibson is one of the best actors. His ability to show emotion with his eyes and facial expressions and no dialog is unmatched. If you haven't seen it yet, definitely check out Braveheart.
I'm NEVER too old for THIS shit ! 😊

All four Lethal Weapon films are so great .
I want one more. Just one more!
first two are great, third one is solid, fourth one absolutely sucks
Lost Boys is a good Vampire movie.

No. Lost Boys is the BEST vampire movie!!
@@typicalme2009 top 10 vampire movie of all time.

Oh YES!
You need to watch the other 3 (another famous actor joins them in the other 3)
True story
The show is not half bad as well
3 and 4 are not as good but still worth watching.
The precursor to this movie is Running Scared with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. I recommend you check that one out. They had the confidence to do Lethal Weapon after doing that movie.
Good Movie Running Scared I recommend it
The music score for Lethal Weapon films are perfect. Michael Kamen, Eric Clapton and David Sanborn are masters.
And Sting sings the theme for the 3rd movie!
That suspenseful tone right as they're about to shoot Joshua and as they do gets me every time.
Loaded Weapon as the parody film to this is a must see!
Yes, but you should probably watch Lethal Weapon 2 and maybe 3 aswell before watching that one. It's not 100% necessary but it helps.
This is probably my favorite action series. It has everything. Action. Humor. Suspense. Friendship. Watch the sequels. They’re all so good.
And Lethal Weapon 2 is AMAZING!!!
6:47 "Look at these old phones!" Literally the very first cell phone in a movie.
As a kid in the 80s i waited on line for a long time at the theater. Probably a movie before u were born
I'm pretty sure even a movie from the 90's is before he was born.
both of you are right
Riggs wasn’t a drug addict, he’s always smoking a cigarette.

Gibson can reach a level of ferocity that few other actors can produce. It's why he has always been a popular fan-cast to play Wolverine in X-Men.
If you like Gibson as Riggs, try Expendables 3, the last fight is basically Rambo vs. Riggs.

I think you missed the detail of the ‘blonde’ guy. Roger’s daughter was dating a blonde boy, not Joshua. When they kidnapped her, they killed the blonde boy. That’s why Roger reacted that way, because he realized the kid who died was Rianne’s boyfriend.
Oh my god PLEASE watch Lost Boys!! 🤩
Fun fact, Endo (the one electrocuting Riggs) is the same actor that was in Die Hard (the guy who stole and ate the Hershey bar).
Capricorn One has some cool helicopter action
FIRE music too. Michael Kamen conducting and the legendary Eric Clapton on guitar.
As ridiculous that big martial arts fight even occurring would be the real world,
it is 100%, pure 1980's machismo awesomeness!
And I love it every time.
First viewer!
Also, Lost Boys @ 11:55 sounds like another movie reaction!
Nobody can be too old for this shit. Because this shit is good. Lethal Weapon is The Godfather of buddy cop films. All 4 films are enjoyable.
This was the movie that made the 9mm Beretta so popular it was the gun to own after this movie. Seemed like anyone buying a gun after this you didn't need to ask you already knew more than likely they bought a 9mm Beretta
I really like how you don't just chat about the action but zone in on the music too 👍👍
I recommend all the sequels.
Now that you've seen this one national lampoons loaded weapon is a must see
I enjoyed all four films because in each one it’s Valuable lessons and laughs is too awesome
😂”Mel Gibson runs like a child“.hahahaha he looks so weird running you should see steven segal running in his movies. hilarious!!!!!
Dude, watch The Lost Boys.
The movie takes place over the Christmas holiday, therefor, yes, it IS a Christmas movie.
It's not about Christmas.
@@tempsitch5632 well, neither are some christmas movies though lol
Big Mac, Wendy's vs. both of them, etc. lol
"There's been a lot of naked people in the first few minutes of this film..."
Welcome to the 80s. :)
If youve never seen Lost Boys...watch it next!! Its an amazing 80s vampire flick. Youll love it.
If you want to see great helicopter action scenes with practical stunts watch Darkman and Broken Arrow. Also 2 great action movies in general btw.
The lost boys!
Check out the helicopter opening sequence to For Your Eyes Only..should be on youtube. Great review.
I enjoyed watching all 4 lethal weapon movies from Richard Donner.
Also....ALIEN and ALIENS.....if you haven't seen them. 😎👍
If you like helicopter action scenes, check out Mission Impossible Fallout if you haven't already. That movie and series is 🔥
One of my favourite movies of all time!
Sad, but in the movie Twilight Zone in 1982, a practical fx helicopter stunt went wrong and the star Vic Morrow and a 6 yr old girl and a 7 yr old boy were killed. John Landis was the director.
4:19 I used to live near that apartment house, thought of her jump every time I went by it.
there goes Ollie, predictin' stuff again 😂. Watch 2 and 3, you won't be disappointed.
If they did X-Men in the 80s-90s, Mel should have been Wolverine
I hope you'll consider watching other 3 movies, at some point, when the mood hits. All four movies are close to the same quality, so if you liked first one, you'll enjoy others.
You should definitely watch the sequels. They're all pretty good. Lethal Weapon 2 is worth a watch.
Just think, if Danny Glover were actually 50 in 1987 he'd be 85 now.
Birthday cake Timbit was an instant champ.
Right!!
@@RolyPolyOllieReactions K bro you gotta watch Point Break now 1991 if you haven't already. Don't walk, run.
Love, love, love this movie! Thanks for the great reaction review!
That's what some people don't know, alot of depressed folks around during the holidays.
I'm in St Catharines Ontario and timbits are amazing love my timmies and I'd strongly suggest watching the next 3 movies
This is def. one of my favourite movies. React to all the Lethal Weapon movies they are all good.
This one has few short but sweet emotional scenes that make me tear a bit.
omg you need to watch Lost boys. the director Richard donner produced it, it's my favorite vampire movie
Again with the classics!! 😁😁
Wait....have you seen the Mad Max movies? Or especially Mad Max: Fury Road??? If not you MUST add them to your list!
I saw Mad Max fury road and its amazing but I have never seen the originals
@@RolyPolyOllieReactions you gotta see them especially The Road Warrior.
Riggs isn't a drug user. Yes he drinks. He's just a bit crazy, lonely and doesn't think he has anything to live for.
