    john connor KNEW kyle was his father when he met him in the future, because sarah told him! thats why john was telling kyle about sarah and gave him the picture. because he knew he would send him back in time and kyle would fall in love with her there. and sarah was a bit idealising him because of the whole situation they met. but kyle was very different than every man she ever met in her live. he was true, honest strong, but at the same time sad and vulnerable. i buy it, that she fell in love with him.

    Like Sarah said, "In the few hours we had together, we loved a lifetimes worth." She fell in love with Kyle's honesty, bravery and devotion - he gave his life for her and his unborn son - and it was clear he loved her fiercely.

    Regarding the paradox, there's a deleted scene from the end of the movie where some factory workers find an advanced computer chip from the Terminator. Outside we realize the factory is owned by Cyberdyne Systems. Therefore, Skynet would have never existed if the Terminator wasn't sent back. It forms a perfect causal loop and is a testament to James Cameron's excellent writing.

      There's also the fact that Reese almost certainly fucked humanity into extinction by preventing John Connor from being born since there's no telling who the father was in the original unaltered timeline that experienced no future intervention.

    • @silikon2
      @silikon2 8 месяцев назад

      There's an even bigger deleted scene where Sarah looks up Cyberdyne Systems in the phone book and convinces Reese they should destroy the factory. It wasn't a coincidence they ended up there.

      Kyle and Sarah are soul mates joined together by “destiny” in its most technical sense: a temporal causality loop embedded in space-time. The greatest love story in film, IMO.

      Well, Kyle was 19, a boy without childhood, all his life was the war, and Sarah, the mother of his leader, was so diferent, so unreal for him, so he fell in love with just one photo. But be sure, Kyle wouldn't deny to come back in past even if he wouldn't love her, course it was his duty to save Sarah and all the humanity.

    In the UK when Terminator was released in 1984 it was rated 18. When T2 was released is 1991 it was rated 15, so a lot of teens who watched T2 hadn’t seen the first movie, I wasn’t one of them I was 8 in ‘84 and my mum worked in a video rental shop of which I had almost limitless access to movies. I didn't appreciate the love story aspect of this movie much when I was younger. I first saw this movie back in the 80s when I was a kid. As an adult, though, I love the beautiful tragic love story of it. Kyle Reese spent his life falling in love with a picture and the legend of Sarah Connor. Then the option to actually meet her happened, and he crossed time to do so, getting to meet the woman of his dreams, even if it was before she was the legend. Sarah fell in love with this soldier from the future, who was the only one who could protect her from this unstoppable killing machine. Kyle gave his life for her. And she would spend the rest of her life loving him.
    He mentioned the picture to her, saying that she looked sad in it, and he wondered what she was thinking of at that moment. Then in the epilogue, we see the picture being taken. She was thinking of him at that exact moment.

Critics panned Arnold's acting in it ... but they were just wrong. He plays his character perfectly and the cinematography was amazing with a great supporting cast including James Earl Jones (Darth Vaders voice) as the antagonist. It's a fucking Tour De Force with a fantastic original score by the master Basil Poledouris who's score filmography is beyond belief ... It's an absolute must if you like Ahnold.

    The Terminator was the first major film James Cameron directed, and Aliens was his second. Prior to making The Terminator, James Cameron was broke, bordering on being homeless, and having MacDonald’s coupons mailed to him by relatives so he could eat. He got the idea for the movie from a fever dream in which he saw the endoskeleton of the terminator, which he drew after waking up.
    Brad Fiedel wrote the music for the first two Terminator films. Notice how in this film, during the final confrontation, as the terminator becomes less human looking and as the story gets more and more like a horror film, the music gets more and more dissonant and intentionally uncomfortable as the scenes play on. Very good composing.
    If you recall, Kyle Reese told Sarah how he always thought she looked kind of sad in the picture he had of her, and how he always wondered what she was thinking in that moment. That scene at the end of the film reveals that she looked sad because she was thinking about him and how he died trying to save her life and, as a result, would never know he was John Connor’s father. That’s a lot to take in from an audience perspective, and really great story writing. There’s a reason this film has stood the test of time (probably a few reasons, and no time pun intended).

    In the first timeline, John's father would have been some random guy. Then he would've had a relatively normal life until the war.
    Then Kyle would've been sent back to 1984 to protect Sarah and became John's father, creating another timeline where Sarah anticipates the war and tells John about Kyle, John gives Kyle the photo, Kyle falls in love with Sarah and volunteers to go back, which creates the timeline in the film.
    Then Terminator 2 happens and creates another timeline. And that's all of the Terminator films.

  • @fireidar
    @fireidar 3 года назад +2

    It's human nature when faced with death and destruction to reaffirm life and by extension love. THAT'S why a lot of children are conceived and born during wars. So with Kyle as Sarah's protector and the only 'sanity' in the death and horror surrounding her, it's just logical she would reach out to him to 'reaffirm' life with him. Same with Kyle, except his instinct was more "if I die, at least I've left a piece of myself behind." It's not necessarily love they have for each other, with Kyle telling her he loved her and she feeling strongly dependent on him, she may have TOLD herself she is in love with him, and Kyle fell in love with a PHOTO, a photo of a beautiful 'innocent' 'pure' woman, the only thing calm and innocent in the desolation of their world. Think about it, they are the ONLY ONES who can do this. They have to rely on each other to survive, everyone else will just be killed-it's a "it's-you-and-me-against-the-world" thing.

    Great video! Man, I really could just listen to you talk for forever and a day. As far as the film goes, and I'm sure you've way figured this out by now, John Connor plays a pivotal role behind the scenes. At the end, when Sarah is making the tapes for John, she tells him the Kyle is his father and that John will have to send Kyle back. That's why John gives Kyle the photo of Sarah in the first place. Can you imagine how weird it must be to meet your father and send him back in time to meet your mother? Anyway, I love your videos. Thanks for taking the time and giving your viewers such great content. Peace!

    I tend to think that if a paradox where to happen, then that timeline would collapse on itself and the corrected timeline would be happening simultaneously and continue from that point. No one would know that the other timeline happened, because it has now been erased. Just my way of cleaning up a movie paradox.

    • @willwhitman7534

      Also some interesting info for you, Lance Henriksen oh, the guy that played the white cop, was originally envisioned by James Cameron to be the Terminator and not Arnold. OJ Simpson was also looked at as a possible to play The Terminator. Another thing that little twist your mind is that the movie we see it's actually a third time line, you have the original timeline, then a second which slightly Alters the first and then this movie which will make a continuation timeline.

    Regarding the speed at which Sarah fell in love with Kyle, in 1993 I met a young woman at a camp retreat. We were instantly attracted to each other, spent the entire day (about 10hrs) just wandering the park & talking. We were definitely in love with each other at the end of that day & we didn't even have to escape any Terminators. The relationship ended in 1995, but it started that day. It happens.

    I agree about the time travel paradox - but I think pretty much any (backward) time travel story ends up with some kind of logical road block.
    Regarding her being in love, I would say that after everything was over and with Kyle being dead, a few months later she might begin to reinterpret the narrative and project back different feelings - that is what we do.
    Yes. T2 is the end of the good stuff. Some of the others are OK, but following great with ok doesn't really work.

    Funny how the reaction videos of millenials are always "what, he got in love because of just 1 picture?"
    In 1984, pictures were rare and held much more value than a pic of someone today when people make thousands of selfies.
    It was already magical to have a picture of someone, so it wasn't far-fetched to fall in love with someone based on such a picture.

    Yeah, most folks agree T1 & T2 are the best. All the other sequels have great action but fall severely short on story. All the sequels after T2 recognize the first two Terminator films.
