  • This video is part one of a two part review of the OEX Expedition Tarp.
    It was a last minute purchase because the forecast was for bad weather on a camping trip to Wiltshire.
    The campsite is The Woodbridge Inn Campsite at Pewsey, Wiltshire, England, a review for which can be found below.
    This video shows the contents of the tarp bag, an initial preview, with the reasons why I bought it, almost a full filming of the installation over my Naturehike Cloud Up 2 tent, which is also reviewed in separate video, along with follow up comments after a night of heavy rain and high winds!
    This is first time I’ve ever put a tarp up and I hope you find this video helpful, if you have any question just ask.
    I have no sponsorship or affiliation with any supplier and pay for everything I fit or do and review.

    I used mine separately from the tent to block the weather and have a very successful camp amazing tarp and very strong as wind was horrendous, without it we’d have been miserable and got nothing done fire or otherwise never mind actually having a great time.!

    Hi Andrew - I prefer the second set-up which appears to address the central dip. When I'm away on the Bonnie I tend to park-up (with the bike leaning away from the tent) and lash the tarp to the handlebars before guying-out the remainder to protect the bike from rain and dew. This creates adequate headroom and avoids the need for a second pole.........stay safe mate, Daniel

      Good tip Daniel

    • @Chris66able
      @Chris66able 2 года назад

      Its dipping because you have the tarp too far forward, this also means when it rains the rain will seep under the tarp from the roof of the tent.

    I have been through the same process before watching your video. The tarp matches with the OEX Bobcat. I placed it over a two hooped one man tent and it was a bit of a faff, initially placed it more centrally over and had to keep running around adjusting the tension. One less pole helps to match the tent height. The purpose was to provide a vestibule area and to provide a bit of cover for my gravel bike. This was just a practice set up , it seems a big footprint where the guy lines are positioned but hopefully ok for woodlands.

      @thecampingbiker791  Год назад

      Took me ages on this first use but once you’ve got a it worked for a particular tent then it’s fine…I’ve also used as separate shelter pegged to floor at rear and keeping wind/rain off tent, versatile bit of kit 👍🏻

    I have this tarp and have been pleased with it in conjunction with both my tunnel and dome tents.
    If you look at the dimensions on the Go website; it gives a height of 120 cm, which is three pole sections high. I have always taken it that it is only recommended to be used three sections high. I too tried four, but as you see, there is excessive flex in the pole at that height.

    I have purchased a tarp recently, but have only tried it in the garden. One suggestion would be to purchase a king pole, Vango sell a pair for about 15 pounds. Be a a little heavier but are much more robust. Looked like a good set up. Thanks for posting 👍

      I’m up in the Lakes camping this weekend and the tarp is paying for itself rapidly as it is cold wet and windy 😂 As I type I’m looking at the pole and it’s got a good old curve when wind blows, but held up last night with heavy rain, hailstones and high winds!! I prefer the second version of fly position over the first as seems to better direct rain away. There is a special telescoping tent pole that can be purchased separately that is more sturdy than the one that comes with this tarp you might find better suited. I appreciate the video as I already have a small siltarp that I wanted to use with my 1p tent, this gave me ideas on how to do it.

    Hi Andrew, I'm not qualified really to comment on the tarp set up as I don't camp, but what I did think about was, I wonder if there's something similar to cover ones motorcycle from torrential rain. Or perhaps to cover the motorcycle whilst stealth camping. Another enjoyable watch 👍🏻
