There were a few audio errors in this video, and at certain points, particularly towards the end where I said "In my humble opinion", where I think I came across as far more arrogant than I intended to come across. I'll be working to improve the audio quality of my videos whenever I can afford to get less noisy computer fans, and I'll be trying to word myself more carefully in future. Hope that this was an enjoyable ideo either way - With any luck I was able to at the very least get across just how fond I am of She-Ra and how much I respect the creative team behind it!

Noelle Stevenson said that Shadow Weaver’s final act wasn’t really a redemption. She was simply trying to do one good deed and acting like it made up for a lifetime of abuse to both her children. What she did with Adora was also abusive, I feel you used the wrong choice of words with that, her abuse was more subtle by causing Adora to develop that savior complex.
Regardless I loved the analysis of one of my favorite shows. I showed my mom this show and she also loved it. I am surprised when bringing up other media you didn't mention Star Wars given all the references the show makes to it. I feel it's a better Star Wars story than the sequels, and this is speaking as someone who liked the first two.

Noelle Stevenson said that shadow weaver wasn't supposed to be seen as redeemed or forgiven her sacrifice is supposed to give catra and Adora some sort of closure.

Interesting. I do still thinknit's a question that was worth asking, and death of the author being what it is, I think a lot of people might have come away from the show seeing her as redeemed, so I felt it was a topic worth looking at. thanks for letting me know though, I hadn't heard of this.

@@QosmicVoid yeah it's the whole death by redemption thing wich happens so many times that it loses its effects noelle once said an interview that she hated those kinds of redemption and it actually shows in the way that it might have been something catra wanted but she had to live to face her actions while for shadow weaver it was her last act and even a final act of manipulation. Notice how unlike catra her last words weren't I'm sorry they were your welcome she even says it with a smile as if to say oh look you have to forgive me now!!!

@@negargeliyerdi3766 It's indeed a trope that has a lot of issues with it. I don't nessesarily oppose the trope though, I think it can work in a few circumstances. With Shadow Weaver it did seem like it was almost a final "fuck you" if you know what I mean. I don't know it it had the effect Noelle intended for it to have.

To me, I feel like her sacrifice humanized her somewhat, and was her attempt at making SOME amends for the harm she caused, and that definitely seemed to be the intent to me, but I definitely agree that she wasn't "redeemed". It would have been, perhaps, the start of her redemption if it hadn't come at the cost of her life, but it wasn't in and of itself redemption.
Her sacrifice showed there was SOME good in her, and that, perhaps in her own twisted way, she did genuinely care about Adora and Catra, in the same way that many abusive parents do. One doesn't have to be pure, 100% cartoonishly evil to be abusive, and an abuser can still, in their own way, care about the person or people they're abusing. It doesn't absolve them of guilt, nor does it excuse their behavior, it's just a simple statement of fact: abusers are people and people are often complicated.

I have always seen others rationalize it as a play pretend type. They know different minority groups have less power. However they act like they are infinitely powerful in order to make themselves feel better.
For any sort of right wing ideology to work, their enemy has to be every present or constantly shifting.

There are certainly some shows that take redemption a bit far, and while i do beleive that someone can be redeemed regardless of what they've done, there are always going to be conflicts in which that can't be relied upon, and that some people just need to be dealt with in whatever way possible.

[After doing a bit of research (which I should I bloody done first, instead of acting like the immature person I am supposed to rise above), I retract the statement below this. I am not deleting it (at least not yet), as a proper conversation requires visibility. (QosmicVoid, if for whatever reason you're reading my edit, I will give you a real answer after an hour or two of research.)]
    -Permanently Disqualified-
-Reason: Hatred against a trans creator for being 'anti-abusive' and for being more progressive than QosmicVoid (at least at the time of this video and his Rejecting Social Norms, Rejecting Authority, and Intersectionality video on the Owl House.)-

Considering the history of the person in question, and everything thats come out in the last few months, this is a laughably hypocritical reason to "disqualify" me.

@@QosmicVoid TL,DR: I acted like an overconfident dumbass, and I'm sorry.
Okay, actually response time (sorry that this is long, I didn't want to come off insincere):
For context, the ‘disqualification’ thing was for a (hopefully large) playlist of videos I’m attempting to make (I can link the playlist if you think I’m bluffing to save my ass).
I admit I acted like a bloody child. I made those comments with my attempts at ‘factual sass’ or whatever the fuck, in an attempt to make other people do. . . Something not positive for your channel (to be honest, my brain was working in aggression mode, so I can’t really tell what I intended to make happen).
Both of the comments I made revolved around my quote-on-quote 'allegiance’ to Lily Orchard, since I had ‘doubled down’ on supporting her in the past week due to me already having another RUclipsr I like whose name has dragged through the mud from (what I had believed at the time) false pedophile accusations. I had caulked up the allegations against Lily as transphobes hating her for her Steven Universe takes, and the rest the stalkers and abusers she talked about. That was a mistake.
I could talk for a good 30 minutes of why I should’ve figured out sooner that she was a bloody creeper, but I’ve already taken from your late night by acting like a prick in the comments of 3-4 year old videos, so I’ll get to your actual responses. (I’ll be covering both so you don’t have to divide responses between two different videos’ comments.)
Progressivism Comment: To be honest, I have been a bit of an ‘extremist’ when it comes to politics, much of it being a reaction to the current state of the US (I’ve let having a clear idea of who the people I talk to will vote for take priority in interactions). I do not condone this, as it’s clear that if a simple slap back leaves me scrambling to make sure my points are correct, I shouldn’t be so bold about it. I will be certain to watch that shit, and not act like the WokeScolds you’ve explained your distaste for. I should’ve expected by now that if you’ve produced dozens of videos explaining political beliefs and ideologies, that you’d know what you’re doing.
Trans Comment: I’ve mostly responded to part one of your comment with my first few paragraphs, but for the sake of not disregarding it, yes, it is bloody hypocritical of me to use Lily Orchard as my reason for ‘disqualification’.
And for whether or not I know you’re trans; you’re right, I was just bloody guessing. It was realizing that a fellow trans person called out Lily (with evidence that she just ignored) that made me completely reconsider. The only ‘evidence’ I had was that you’ve only used the plain rainbow flags in your videos, and figured since you’re quite outspoken about facism that you’d state if you were trans. All of that is an assumption however, and not at all a viable argument.
I am sorry for acting immature towards you, and I can (or you, assuming RUclipsrs have that power) delete my comments if you’d like. If not, I will leave them there, with the edit and the original text there so onlookers have the context for why you had to step in to moderate your comment section.

I apologize for this response being so late, I was at work. I have to admit, this is an unexpected response. A pleasant surprise, mind you. It's rare someone comes in hot, I come in hot (Or vise versa), then cooler heads take over. It's a nice change of pace, I appreciate it.
I checked your channel and saw the playlist. The additional context does make more sense, but I do feel the need to point out that I would have had absolutely no way of being aware of this, unless I checked your channel before, went into the playlists, checked it of my own accord, and then made the assumption based on little to no real evidence that you were talking about the playlist - None of which I had any reason to do. On it's own, the comment comes across more as a dismissal of my content at best, and an accusation of me not being worthy of my own ideals at worst.
Frankly I'd disqualify this video from your playlist on the merit of it being crap and not representative of the kind of content I do these days. I've considered remaking it more than once.
Also while I try not to mention them or their channel because that's just not how I like to do content nowadays - Yeeeah. But I understand the reflexive defence. Odin knows I've done that and that's bitten me in the ass as well, so I don't hold that against you.
When it comes to progressivism, I can promise you I'm about as radical-left as it gets. (Trans Rights? More like Trans Thriving, Heyooo) You're in very good company in that regard. You'll find me quite the optimist too - I fully believe that we're on the verge of major political and philosophical victories that could change the course of Humanity.
With regards to the trans thing: This is one of the reasons I have a distaste for this particular brand of progressivism - It's performative. I might have very good reasons to keep my gender identity or history a secret, such as it being a matter of my own safety, or as a trauma response - Or I may just be an ally who maintains the ambiguity as a show of solidarity, and because it forces people to acknowledge the arguments I make, because they can't dismiss me either way. Or perhaps it's both, or neither or maybe it's just for anonymity - No one has any idea what's going on in my life and I keep it that way intentionally.
The issue with putting more blind faith on "open" trans voices is that it all but dismisses closeted trans voices, which are just as valid - But since none of us are psychic, none of us can truly tell. It's like what happened with PhilosophyTube all over again, and a difficult realization to manage once you make it, because none of us are psychic, we don't know who is closeted or not - And giving blind credibility to open trans people also gives credence to many people who it turn out aren't deserving of it. Something I quickly learned, and found almost validating in a way, is that it doesn't matter who or what someone is - People of all groups are equally capable of being decent people, and the absolute worst kinds of abusive scumbags. It's why I've chosen to focus more on the ideas being presented, rather than the identity of the person delivering them
Not to say to just ignore trans or other minority content creators or dismiss them out of hand, of course - More just to not allow their identities to cloud your judgement.
Believe you me - I get the appeal of the righteous anger in this particular creators case, and trust me, if it ever comes up, I am not the kind of person to be "Diplomatic" about my views.
I appreciate and accept the apology. I get the reflexive attitude, trust me. I do have the power to delete RUclips comments, and can do so if you desire, but I'll leave it up for the time being at least so as to give you the window of opportunity to response. I do appreciate this though, quite a bit. A pleasant surprise, all things considered.

@@QosmicVoid Thanks for responding. Don’t worry about the late response, time zones (and me not having a job yet) allows for a sizable grace period.
I appreciate you being pleasant in your response, and I apologize for trying to make a ‘disqualification’ from a simple RUclips playlist into a performance. With how fickle I am with the rules to my own playlist, it’s at *the very least* silly, to egotistical and abrasive to act so seriously about what I allow and don’t allow in it. I won’t make the same mistake again in other contexts and I will check other comments I made in the past to see if they too act as dismissal or insulting to others’ content, or personal beliefs even.
(Side note, are you just referring to the She-Ra video these comments are under, or the Owl House video on ‘Rejecting Social Norms, Rejecting Authority, and Intersectionality’ as well?)
In future contexts, I will also be sure to actually do research on controversies *before* acting all defensive and ‘high and mighty’ about it. Again, thank you for being forgiving on that front.
It’s also rather nice seeing a fellow leftist (if that’s the correct terminology) and a rather optimistic one at that. Keep it up.
I respect your choice to keep your personal history *personal*, and I will keep in mind to view the “I’m of X minority, so I have an authority on X-related things,” much more critically, instead of letting it just slide past because I thought some of their content was entertaining (which is an admittedly dangerous point of view to have when it comes to controversies and political contexts). I will also be sure to re-learn that minority does not automatically equal a decent person (I’ve admittedly known too many people of minorities that are shitty people to not have that in knowledge at this point).
I’m going to keep my comments up (and you may do so yourself), as a marker of a mistake I’m not to repeat. I’ve often deleted my online mistakes in the past, and I haven’t learned anything from deleting them. In the future, should you want to delete these comments, then go ahead, but for now, I’m fine with them staying.
One thing I did not mention in my original comments was that I ‘reported’ the She-Ra video that this comment is under (I did it before researching the RUclipsr controversy in question). I have since sent feedback to RUclips saying I retract that report, but if RUclips still has a problem with it, here’s my open admission that I retract that report. I’m sorry for sending a false report.
I hope I have conveyed my understanding of your response, and have a pleasant day.
