I actually liked Under the Skin podcast because he invited cool people and he's a very good interviewer. But the conspiracies of late, I simply can't find patience to watch.
It's weird when I get old videos from people I only started watching in the last 6 months, when they prime themselves on discussing [Current Events]. Just the YT Algos being goofy like always, I guess.
The content on this one hasn't really aged though. If anything, it's become more relevant with Russell's increasing strangeness. Can't explain the YT algorithm though. 😅
Its really sad to see the direction Russell Brand went. I was watching him a bit about 3 to 4 years ago, he was a HUGE advocate for rehabilitative justice and drug addiction help, and this was the height of my own addiction struggles. He was very calm and introspective, and while it was very hippy dippy and semi spiritual, it was focused on problem solving and building a life worth living to overcome addiction. I haven't watched since then, I saw a video a bit after Covid and he was doing 'just asking questions' and it was clear where he was going with his channel
People rarely talk about the healthy looking unhealthy addictions that a lot of people switch to after getting sober.. religion, spirituality, self-help, exercise, etc.. it's great if it helps you with sobriety, but becoming fanatical is an issue.

He has no political alignment and puts forward both sides of the things he talks about, whilst telling viewers to make up their own mind and use critical thinking. It doesn't surprise me that the typical Internet leftie doesn't like him. Critical thinking has gone out the window for most of them.

Yeah I think celebrities get too much hate for having vague political views. Someone makes fun movies, is likable, and talks about some generally progressive ideas, great. Not everyone needs to be a politician or lefty youtuber to raise valid points. Celebrities only become an issue when you have Russel Brand being a conspiracy theorist or Gwyneth Paltrow selling BS health products.
You mean the same specifically anti covid vaxxers that refused it based on concerns about adverse effects that have now been overwhelmingly proven to be a real danger to those taking it? What was the conspiracy theory exactly?
for a minute he was a reasonable left / social democrat after he "left" the acting world and started that channel. But jesus, he went downhill so fast, now he is basically a new Alex Jones, shouting all the time, rambling forever without making a single point. Pretty sure he is not doing it for the money, the guy is an attention whore and the attention of the antivaxxer idiots ("the awoken") pulled him into a downward spiral.
Back when I used to watch Joe Rogan, there was one episode where I recall Russel being rather introspective on how he'd replaced one addiction with another, then another. I think this has happened again, in a loose sense, with the direction he's taken.
I remember thinking that Russell Brand had a lot of potential and having a lot of respect for him and his socialist credentials. Now he just seems to have adopted the 'whatever is mainstream, the opposite it true' approach to everything.

It's unfortunately the behaviour of an addict who shifted from one addiction to another (adulation) and was also able to use his pre-RUclips fame to build up a very large platform that feeds it.
All Vaush has to do to agree with Russell Brand’s many takes is slowly ease himself into Brand’s worldview by watching a video of his that he agrees with.
I genuinely thought his messiah complex thing was an ironic gimmick from his stand up routine. However since lock down he's been an unsettling normalizing factor for right wing conspiracy talking points in name of "unification". I'd like to think he's genuinely a well meaning guy, however he's skating a bit close to his "brand" psychologically.
I don't exactly remember when I first thought "wow, Russell Brand has gone off the deep end", but the current version of Russel Brand makes that Russell Brand look sane and rational.

Russell Brand says: What the mainstream media won't tell you. Translation 1: The Guardian and BBC covered it but I didn't notice. Translation 2: I'm covering something I know is untrue.
He started as a standup comedian/musician, then went into acting. This channel really blew up during the lockdowns when everyone was stuck at home and had a lot of time on their hands.
Was already big before the lockdown in 2014 I remember he was telling everyone not to vote then all of a sudden a couple nights before the election he told everyone to vote Miliband. The ultimate bait and switch lol. After that his channel did go kind of stale but like you said during the pandemic it blew it up like crazy.
I watched some episodes of his podcast "Under the skin" a few years ago and it was ok. I also liked his videos related to meditation, breathing techniques and things of the sort. He was actually relatively apolitical and i was ok with that because i watched him for other reasons. But since last year i think, he started uploading these conspiratorial videos and i unsubscribed because i saw through it. I was actually surprised because even though i knew he probably wasn't aligned with my politics, he went through a lot in his personal life and i perceived him to be "wiser" than this. Ultimately, even though he probably believes most of what he's saying, i think he did this for money and to revive his channel, which is honestly worst
I'm not very surprised seeing where Russell's been going recently. He's had good takes in the past but there's always been the hippie woo-woo side that's prone to bad conspiracy thinking.

This really hurts because ever since I was 16 I idolised Russell, I felt like his politics aligned with mine as well as his energy. I've been to his shows, listened to and watched every Podcast and was even part of his production Team as an intern back when he did BBC Radio 2 with Matt Morgan. To see him appeal to the US Right and BIG CONSPIRACY people, really really saddens me. He had Candice Owens on his show not long ago and most of the comments and top rated ones, were snide or subtle remarks about how 'Right Wing is Red Pilled' constantly refering to Liberals or Leftists as 'They' or 'Them people'. Russell has essentially become a Grifter and despite a lot of his policies about nationalisation and general left-leaning policies about welfare etc, he's going to become a bastion for the Right. Despite the right consuming and taking as gospel the likes of Fox News etc, they are apparently too the paragons of anti-MSM - which they use to attack the Left "hur hur LEFTIES AND CNN". This is a bad timeline and I hate it.
That’s the thing though, he seems genuine in his beliefs and I think he’s genuine in the left wing stuff he believes and really thinks that the left and right are just dumb labels to divide us. He’s also vegan which is objectively good and shows he cares about big issues

I’d rather have to deal with a bunch of conservatives who are class conscious and anti-state than a bunch of violent fascists. How often do libertarians grow up and become leftists? Why complain about someone with a audience of millions talking about class consciousness?
He gives off a real "I need to get finished with this before the remains of my conscience stop me from grifting" energy with the speed of his delivery.

I always used to dismiss Russel Brand as a comedy chimney sweep on TV who told people not to vote until I found his youtube channel and grew respect for his ability to approach topics like depression, anxiety and addiction very incisively and empathetically. So it's been pretty sad to watch him descend into conspiracy like this. My own feeling is Russel's addictive personality has led him down a conspiracy rabbit hole. Cod psychology I know but conspiracy theory addiction is a problem people with addiction issues can spiral into
Fully agree. He was once able to be nuanced, empathic and openminded, which actually made me glad he talked to people like Jordan Peterson and Candace Owens. He challenged them and seemed to be able to match their lofty way of speaking, while not appearing hostile. However, he's always been prone to addiction and i really do think that that's what conspiracy theories are. Everyone i know who's fallen into the rabbithole is completely obsessive about it.

Russel Brand's 'intellectualism' has been wildly blown out of proportion. He's not always wrong, I'm not going to make that claim, but he is much more into the wild hot takes than evidence based reading of news events. People forget he's an entertainer first and foremost, he's always on some sort of grift, he's not a political thinker. In fact during the 2015 UK election he publicly decried democracy and encouraged people not to vote, because 'the game is rigged'. He's not a very deep thinker, his understanding is surface level. He's winning traction on the right at the moment because he's telling them what they want to hear, and as we have seen countless times the right doesn't need their advocates to be intelligent or to use any kind of objective reasoning. I imagine he is going down this route because he wasn't getting so much TV work, I doubt very much he genuinely believes everything he says.
I would like to add, I don't think he's a bad person, I think some grifters are bad, he's not Jimmy Dore or Candace Owens level by any means. But even if his popularity is worrying I don't feel threatened by his arguments, nor do I think he would be the sort of person who would be advocating for a whole group of people to be harmed.
I assumed as much. I’ve bookmarked several of Russell’s pandemic-era videos, but haven’t watched so many. I recently saw my brother watching the channel and expressed my disappointment with the clickbait style he’s adopted. My brother scolded me for criticizing a channel I don’t watch. The black and white thinking on how to view nurses in the Russell brand video is absolutely astounding. You can either like and respect all nurses, dislike and disrespect all nurses, or you are a hypocrite. That's where the logic comes from, that you cannot criticise some nurses for not getting vaccinated, and him going back and forth with some groups of nurses being disliked for different reasons. As someone in healthcare/public health lots of us, including (most, I think) nurses, were pretty happy to see anyone unwilling to take the vaccine out of healthcare. Or at least as happy as we could be at even the small loss of people from an already overstretched system. Not a great sign for understanding science, or caring about the risks they are putting others at. The pizza parties got insulting pretty fast, though.
Understand that. Thanks for hanging in there for the rest of us. The thing that annoys the shit out of me is the way people like Brand just repeat all these ideas and opinions and statements end to end, as if the SAME people say and think these things, to make them sound either hypocritical, or dishonest. I mean, the hospital administrations are the ones that don't hire enough regular staff. The science believing and medical system appreciating public are the ones that said you're heroes. And our government are the ones that refuse to regulate to force the hospitals to do the right thing. The nurses that refused vaccines are not the same nurses that we celebrate. Most Americans, even most conservatives, want a Medicare for all type system, want better pay for medical personnel, want nurses treated better and we want nurses and doctors held to high standards of professional ethics and to be vaccinated for patient safety. The people who don't want these things are the crazy anti-vax, anti-government, Q believing, pandemic denying lunatics... like Russel Brand.
”Science” If it`s safe, how come not even a single country have used scientific studies to compare a large group of vaccinated people to a large group of unvaccinated people? Unvaccinated meaning not a single needle of these substances having been injected, and not the manipulative propaganda definition where 1 dose=unvaxxed and 2 dose within 13 days=unvaxxed. Comparing covid deaths and non covid deaths, aswell as any type of illness/injury between the two groups surely gotta be the single most important thing to find out with regards to the mass vaccinations, no? In my country, our equivalent of FDA not only denied this request from a group of researchers/scientists, they even stated ”It could lower the vaccination uptake” as one of the reasons for it, thus basically admitting that the vaccines are not safe, not effective, or both.

@@themitraya8132 Vaccines have been mandated for decades and we’ve always let private businesses censor their users. Are you saying Russel Brand has always been downhill? I’d actually agree with that.
Watching the first 10 minutes of the video, I can say that this is exactly what Russel does: Pointing out actual problems but *never* being specific about who causes what and who fights for what. When he addresses the healthcare system for example, he touches on wages, job security, pressure, etc, but *never* tells his audience what side of the political spectrum caused those social structures to be broken down and what side is fighting to keep the others from privatizing the lot. This behavior translated by most of his fans as "Russel doesn't tell you what to think, he lets you draw your own conclusions", and the main problem with that is that his audience aren't capable of drawing sensible conclusions because they just aren't informed enough, and Russel plays a great game in keeping it that way. Most of them are teens and young adults that are easy to get all riled up and then have no where else to put that energy but into hatred for others. After all, the type of immature comedy' that Russel uses (deliberately ridiculous arguments in a goofy voice) is specifically aimed at that audience. Russel's comment sections are usually riddled with flat-out racist, pro-war or anti-semitic threads, often upvoted by thousands and replies going into the hundreds. Whenever he says something remotely leftie, his audience go take a shit, and when he does this weird joke about Gates predicting a pandemic, they're back soaking up every word because, dear Vaush, it insinuates that the pandemic was Deliberate, and part of the 'Great Reset'. - I liked him during his hippie-like years, but currently consider Brand one of the most dangerous right-wing grifters and stepping stone for young people, specifically because he packages and hides it so well by pretending to have no political affiliation. At least with every other right-wing grifter it's clear what side they belong to.

Brand's method: 1) title every video something opaque, yet sensational: "THEY don't want you to know THIS", or "THAT's what it was ALL ABOUT" 2) start with an observation so uncontroversial, it verges on banal: "US spends too much on military, not enough on social programs". 3) pat yourself (and by proxy your own audience) on the back for solid 10 minutes, for figuring that out, as if it's some secret 3) end with vaguely gesturing towards some conspiracy theory, without stating it outright, so you have plausible deniability: "so that's what war in Ukraine is all about".
You don't have to support Russia to not want any U.S. involvement in this war. Putin's invasion is just as bad or not bad as Saddam's invasion of Kuwait, yet then the left was smart enough not to support U.S. war mongers. The only difference between Democrats and Republicans is which sector of the U.S. public they get to support U.S. imperialist wars.
So I’ve been subscribed to Russ for a long ass time. He use to actually be super valuable on YT with his Trews channel. It’s really sad to see what his channel has become and I’m surprised it’s taken so long for people to actually start calling him out in all honesty
He went from pretty left wing to slightly left wing with a bit of basic critical thinking and logical or balanced opinions on some things, some of these things are considered "right wing" somehow. For example the idea that someone may be against taking an experimental vaccine is supposedly a right wing thing, when it's actually just based on logic and common sense, with no relevance to politics.
@@PrimeNPC nothing I said was to comment on how left or right wing he is. The thing I find concerning is the massive amount of conspiracy baiting he does. He also tends to say very little of substance and is vague as hell. The reason some people might see that as right wing is because conspiracy theories are a lot bigger in right wing circles(almost as if they don’t have evidence that they are right so they resort to myths). I remember when he use to be very direct in specific things he disagreed with and called people out on it, he also use to get involved in a lot of direct action from what I remembered. I’m not gonna get into a vaccine debate with you because if you are still of the mindset that it’s bad, there is literally nothing in a Yt comment I can say to change your mind and I don’t feel like linking 100 links of credible studies proving my points. Interesting that’s immediately where you went tho friendo x
@@TheMimickid "still of the mindset that it's bad".. After the more and more data showing it is bad comes out week by week lol. You're thinking backwards
@@TheMimickid Can you specify some of the conspiracy theories he has mentioned? The vagueness is probably to avoid being censored or banned on RUclips, for anyone with basic critical thinking ability and basic knowledge on world events, even when presented with two vague sides of a story and told to make your own opinion up about it, it's not hard to fill in the gaps yourself.
@@PrimeNPC I said conspiracy baiting because again, he is so unspecific and vague lol. His whole channel comes off as some the end is nigh “the deep state, globalist, Illuminati, new world order” are killing everyone you love slowly. He leaves it so open that depending on who you are, you can just insert what ever baddy you want. When he says the elites, does he mean the government? Does he mean big tech? Does he mean the CIA? Does he mean the Jews? Does he mean the reptilians? You decide lol. And going through his comments, all of thee above apparently. There are people all over the political and social spectrum who are pretty direct, if he isn’t willing to risk it, he either doesn’t have anything to say, or he cares more about keeping the money coming then his message. Either option makes him a hack lol
It's been annoying to see my mother fall into Russell's weird-ass fandom, which hasn't really helped with her vaccine denialism. Also, she originally had the same opinion on Ukraine as Vaush & I, but Russell's ramblings have lead her to both-sides the issue. It's frustrating to see, even as I have to explain to her who Joe Rogan is & why it's bad that Russell's been defending him.
The vaccine is literally PPE (personal protective equipment). Complaining about hospital staff not receiving enough PPE (and they haven't) and then immediately saying it's alright for that staff to refuse the vaccine is silly. C'mon Brand.
Lol the purpose of PPE is to protect against the virus. Rubber gloves are a form of PPE. They protect from covid. If you are wearing the correct mask, wearing PPE, you are protected from covid. If you are vaccinated, you are not protected from covid, you can catch it, spread it, die from it. You can also suffer or die from adverse events incurred from the vaccine as a bonus, with no compensation or refunds, as was known from the beginning.
@@themitraya8132 I read this comment several times and still have no idea what you’re trying to say. There are annual flu vaccines. They work well. You must love Russell a whole bunch to troll every comment trying SO HARD to own people.
About to graduate with my bachelors in nursing and honestly it's insane how fucked the US is considering the nursing shortage, recent criminal convictions of nurses, and other healthcare problems. The way this man carries himself would make me warn people and keep distance myself if I'd meet him in real life. Extrovert is one thing. I feel like being stabbed with red flags. No reason to drop the hammer yet. But he seems inauthentic in several ways, behind his bohemian appearance. Might be media presentation, though that also reveals and angles.
I think it’s actually really simple: he started talking about things he didn’t understand. He’s not an economist. He’s more of a philosopher and social commentator; a comedian. I’ve only studied economics at a cursory level but enough to see many flaws in things he’s said over the last 6 months, and they’re stifling. The same thing happened with Jordan Peterson when he stepped out of his lane. It’s a problem with good orators who are charismatic: they seem like they know what they’re talking about but they’re really just good at talking
@@leftphilange69 same shit happened with Neil Degrasse Tyson. It's like once someone who is extremely intelligent in one field of interest gains mainstream attention, they suddenly think they have to be the voice of authority for everything, regardless of whether they actually know what they're talking about
Russell Brand’s problem? He is an idiot who thinks he is a thinking person. Msg be he is thinking but he is unable to rationalize or analyze things clearly. His ego is coming in the way of common sense.
I've been waiting for Vaush's take on Russel Brand. It didn't disappoint. "Get to the point" is the sentence that's on my mind constantly as well, when I've watched his videos. But he never actually gets to the point, cause he has no point. He has no solutions. He only wants people to follow him cause he's a cult leader first and foremost.
I don’t agree with that. The problem is that his point is so obvious that you’re looking for a real point. He’s a toddler who just discovered that lies exist and his point is always to let everyone know that there’s a second level to the superficial world he’s always seen. He thinks he’s exposing a global cabal that controls everything and that’s the solution.
@@DoctorBiobrain Saying that there's a global cabal that controls everything is not a solution though. Just like saying that capitalism is destroying everything is not a solution in itself. A solution is some kind of a plan how we should fix things and Russel Brand doesn't seem to have a plan.
The "point" is all about making his viewers feel a certain way. Like they're enlightened and they see through the "MSM lies" that the other sheeple eat up. That is the goal of his videos. To make him money
@@KenShackler I wasn’t defending Brand, just explaining what his point is. The point of everything he says is to warn everyone that there’s a group of greedy people who control everything and if you don’t think that’s enough then you’re already ahead of him. YES! THANK YOU! This topic has been needed for a looooong time now. Russell is like Glenn Greenwald, he can sometimes be left, sometimes be further right, but regardless he is ALWAYS crazy...
The tragic thing is. At one time he was a really positive dude and gave good advice based on his own trials and tribulations, I loved tuning in. I don't recognize him anymore. He's "performing" for a certain group and it shows.
I was waiting for someone to do a video on Russell. It's a shame how much his content has devolved into a cesspool of conspiracies and vapid analysis on anything he discusses. At this point, he's no better than Jimmy Dore or Tim Pool.

Man, I haven't really paid attention to Russell Brand in a few years. He was a blast to see on the Big Fat Quiz back in the day, and he did an amazing interview with a few members of the Westboro Baptist Church at one point (highly recommend watching it if you can find it).

”Science”
If it`s safe, how come not even a single country have used scientific studies to compare a large group of vaccinated people to a large group of unvaccinated people?

Well well.

Brand's method: 1) title every video something opaque, yet sensational: "THEY don't want you to know THIS", or "THAT's what it was ALL ABOUT"
2) start with an observation so uncontroversial, it verges on banal: "US spends too much on military, not enough on social programs".
3) pat yourself (and by proxy your own audience) on the back for solid 10 minutes, for figuring that out, as if it's some secret
3) end with vaguely gesturing towards some conspiracy theory, without stating it outright, so you have plausible deniability: "so that's what war in Ukraine is all about".

Looked at the comments of his videos. it was depressing
He’s a simple man explaining one-dimensional checkers on a four-dimensional chessboard.
YES! THANK YOU! This topic has been needed for a looooong time now. Russell is like Glenn Greenwald, he can sometimes be left, sometimes be further right, but regardless he is ALWAYS crazy...
Brand has always been a grifter tbh. While he's never gone full Right, his positions have flip flopped all over the place for years now.
All of them are grifters manipulating the masses. Including Vaush
The whole pots and pans thing was so strange, half my street did it
The tragic thing is. At one time he was a really positive dude and gave good advice based on his own trials and tribulations, I loved tuning in. I don't recognize him anymore. He's "performing" for a certain group and it shows.
What group? Please tell us..
A few like Jimmy Dore and Russel Brand have realized a while ago appealing to the right pays better and gets a bigger audience .
I was waiting for someone to do a video on Russell. It's a shame how much his content has devolved into a cesspool of conspiracies and vapid analysis on anything he discusses. At this point, he's no better than Jimmy Dore or Tim Pool.
@norm simpson what’s funny is that he’s still terrible.
I can't help but feel like that disheveled man in the pink robe talking about new world order might be a bit insane
Brand does seem like he's parodying a conspiracy theorist. Its pretty funny
Or maybe a Hippie spiritual conspiracy theorist. It's funny how different he is from polished mainstream normies.
@@themitraya8132 Darling, he was a highly paid, famous actor and comedian. He’s super hecking mainstream. Don’t be fooled by the long hair and the macrame.
Too late, I guess.
Maybe this is all like some kind of elaborate piece of performance art.
the globalists control both the left and the right and RB is merely stating what needs to be said in order to prove cognitive dissonance and mass formation psychosis in the masses.
@@DrakeEastwood all I hear is “Blah blah blah. Conspiracy shit. Blah blah blah. I probably hate Jews but am too afraid to say that out loud. Blah blah blah.”.
He's just a little smarter and a little more cultish british version of Alex Jones
If Hasan fell off, Russell Brand dived into a volcano
I used to like Russell Brand, but he got way too weird during the pandemic with his anti-mask anti-vaccine bullshit.
Same
He wasn't anti-mask and regarding the vaccines he was anti-mandate.
@@GrandmasterFerg Then he shouldn't be on about dumb conspiracy theories. He's sensationalizing to gain notoriety, it's really obvious.
@@DM-Raven Ya it's just for notoriety, are you able to perceive anything outside of your grift lense?
@@DM-Raven name one that isn't 100% fact?
The Kavernacle did a pretty good video (two actually) on Brand's downfall from actual lefty to whatever this is.
So sad. I watched him for awhile and he seemed like he was trying to do good work, fought for housing for some poor communities. But now it seems like that was just to build cred so he could become another grifter selling fear and captivating tension attention.
Man, I haven't really paid attention to Russell Brand in a few years. He was a blast to see on the Big Fat Quiz back in the day, and he did an amazing interview with a few members of the Westboro Baptist Church at one point (highly recommend watching it if you can find it). Now THIS? Sad to see him go fully unhinged.
Also, fun fact: He was married to Katy Perry between 2010-2012. If he was even remotely like this back then I can see why she didn't want to stick around.
I went and watched Westboro Baptist Church interview again after your comment reminded me of it, it's so good. Makes it even more sad to see what he's become.
@@attaxiaffxi7033 “Holy Spirit ain’t got a pen!”
It was him that didn't want to stick around.
Glad you noticed the fast talking blah blah bullshit that is Brand’s brand. Also the don’t vote, gain power through feeling good about Brand.
I'm geninely pleased to see Brand called out. Some on the left still see him as a valuable voice against American imperialism.
He's a tepid voice of against American imperialism.
Based on your take on Brand, I'd wager that you don't know the left. Go a little deeper, it's a hot mess. Relative to the naked chaos of the nearly undefinable left, Brand looks like a man reading a script. =\
