One of the best carpentry tool reviews I've ever seen. I love the straight forward answers. Not fluff. Great information all about the hammers. Amazing job!
Just ordered an estwing al-pro after watching this. The boss man sold me on it.
That’s a nice, simple, honest review. Sincere opinions and views. And with all the other channels just trying to sell you things, this video is refreshing. Cheers guys!
Thank you so much! We love feedback like this! Thank you for watching

It’s a hammer repeat after me Hammer. There a loud R in the word. It’s not a HAMMA

There are a few reviews of the Estwing AL-Pro® on RUclips but yours is the best.
Your video brings back fond memories of my younger days in Louisiana. Building houses in Lafayette ‘79 into the early ‘80s. The old timers I worked with used Plumb® wooden handled hammers. I preferred a 20 oz. Stanley® smooth face with fiberglass handle. It was heavy enough for framing but I could trim with it too. Hammers got heavier and heavier now they are trending lighter and lighter.
I used to go to an oyster bar in Abbeville, (Black’s Oyster Bar?), is it still there? Louisiana oysters are the best!
Best of luck.
Oh Wow that's awesome to hear! Blacks is actually still there but they are closed down as a restaurant and they rent it out for venues now! Thanks for watching!!
I love the honesty in this review.
Thank you! That's what we shoot for. Real reviews from real Carpenters
Estwing Shingling Hatchet: Roofing
Stiletto 14oz: General hammer
Stiletto 16oz: Wood handled framer
Estwing 16oz Smooth Face claw: Finish work
Estwing Driving Hammer: moving heavy timbers
If I had to pick one forever, it's still be an old school solid steel Estwing, a 24oz rip hammer with a straight claw. When I hit garage sales or yard sales and I see an old Estwing, I just get it, no matter how many I have. I keep them all over, (trucks, shop, kitchen, garage, etc...).
If I had to pick a favorite outside of my shingling hatchets, it'd have to be the Stilettos. They made carpentry work so much more fun for me, especially demo and quick framing jobs. And yes, there's a huge difference between the 14oz & 16oz even though it's only 2 ounces. I can't explain it, but when it comes to titanium, there just is.
But Estwing is and always will be the king of hammers, period. I could do everything with just one 24oz framer if I had to.
Thanks for the upload! most construction videos the contracts blab on about nothing for 20 minutes this what not the case very informative video thank you
Great review with no bs from real professionals!! Helped make my decision so thanks!!!
Thanks!
I’m a shutter and formwork carpenter from England. I started at 16 years old with a 20oz estwing, but when they started being stocked in the U.K in the late 90’s I switch and have stayed with a 24oz long handle framing hammer. The Estwing is a bulletproof tool for using with the metal shuttering systems though, I can’t see anyone racking up a dwyidag wing nut with one of those Martinez hammers.
Man as much as I love Estwing, you have got to get your hands on either a M1 or M4 Martinez man. I honestly feel every carpenter should try one at least for a week and you'll fall in love. The Martinez hammers are built extremely strong and durable. I took the chance when I bought my first one and I'm glad I did! And we're a jobsite that all used to swing Estwing!
Would be good to see what a day in the life of a shuttering chippy is like.
Does boss man have a channel? He should be doing tool reviews daily…. I’d love to help… knows his stuff and gloriously dispensed.
I own an Estwing 22 oz and it's a great all around hammer I used in my job at a steel foundry.
I agree! The estwings are hard to beat for the money!
Boss man is one cool character. So true what he said. Estwing would nt have brought out that model only for other people are pushing boundaries on design. I'd say the m4 handle with the m1 head would be really nice.
I 100% agree, I'm currently looking at a M4 now!
Been wondering how good the balance would be with the m1 handle and m4 head
Me too!
I would say the m1 handle and the milled m4 head
@@noel_1988 let me know if you find out
loved the video real talk between real tradesmen.
I'm a roofer in Scotland swinging a 20oz estwing curved claw and a german slate hammer
Carpenter of 24 years from Australia here. I’ve been using a 30oz estwing forever, but I milled the head and claw down to reduce weight and keep the length. Been awesome and durable, but I’m about to buy an alpro.
Surprised to see you guys running buckeroo gear.
We love our buckeroo belts!
I wish they had them on the shelves in Alabama.
I’m a carpenter in New Zealand and I’ve just ordered myself an AL-Pro thanks to this video! $363nzd so a little steep but can’t wait for it to arrive 👍🏼
Sweet! You'll love it!
I'm also in NZ and my $400 AL-Pro broke in half within 6 months
@@chucktc8032 Damn that sucks! We've had good luck with ours so far
Thanks. On the fence with the Martinez. Wasn’t aware of the All Pro. Using a Fiskars now. Don’t see too many of them
We love both the Martinez and the estwing. Since the video we've gotten 2 more martinez M4s
Great review, good bunch of lads speaking from experience.
Thanks man!
One of the best hammer reviews i've seen.
Features where discussed. Everyone picked their favorite.
What about durably,?
I have estwing 22oz
Dead on framing for demo prosteel
Dallluge titanium found in the street 14oz.
I did comparison dead on 2 hits and sank a nail, estwing 3 hits dalluge 5.
I chose milwaukee cordless or senco air framer case closed.
Fuckin awesome honest opinions, thanks from Australia lads !
Thanks!
No one hand drives anymore. I grew up hand driving using the heaviest Estwing I believe at the time I used a 28.
Looking back it destroyed my elbow. Learn to work a hickory California framer and your joints will love you for it thirty years from now.
I 100% agree, my first hammer was a Estwing 24oz. Now I'm loving the feel of the Martinez M1 with its lightweight yet big punch. I'll get looking into a M4 soon as well for finish work
Pish.
I’ve been using the Al-pro for 5ish years now. It’s been a great hammer. Even though it’s made of aluminum, it’s been super tough.
Just ordered the Al Pro, Bossman has me convinced! Love the channel!!
You're going to love it!
Don’t get me wrong, I will own a Martinez one day as well😁
We now have the Estwing, M1 and 2 M4s and use them all daily and love them!
@@fixinthecoast267 I saw the Martinez unboxing and my mouth started to water hahahaha. Love the content boys, keep it coming and stay safe!
Thanks!
Thanks for this video. Just picked up the AL Pro
I have the Martinez and Estwing, I like the Martinez better, the Martinez also has a lighter Hammer called the M4 with a square head.
Agreed
I'm 53. I work in the housing industry. I've used the same 20oz estwing hammer since I was 19. It's the only hammer I've needed. It doesn't see much use now because of pneumatic nailers.
The Estwing really is the best hammer available for the price! Can't beat a Estwings Balance
@@fixinthecoast267, I started with Estwing in ‘01. Still have that hammer. Used a grinder to repair the waffle a few times. I’ve used friends M-1 and M-4 and will probably buy when I have a few more important tools purchased.
Very cool. Thx for sharing your thoughts....
I have the AL pro and like it over my stilletto ti bone 15.. save your money, buy the estwing..
100% agree, the AL Pro is amazing
I like the Martinez M4 it's more geared toward finish and I like the flat top and the nail puller.
Me too! its the perfect length and weight for finish work! i used my M4 for cabinets and trim!
This is the best hammer review on RUclips. I been looking for a real review from real craftsman and you had guys with a lot of different experience levels give preference and why. Good job
Thanks for watching!
Time is money and I do appreciate you're time and experience shared on this video inhave to know has the estwing pro shown any bad wearing around the fasteners would this hammer take a beating on pry bars cats paws steel stakes
Nope we beat the shit out of the estwing and it's still going strong. It's been a great hammer
No love for the DeWalt hammers... I'm not a big fan of DeWalt but I do like their little ghetto stiletto... just say'n.
They break. Thwy are great before that though
@@shilohmaverick898 I ain't broke one yet, I do demo/remod... I abuse it on metal, concrete, pry in odd ways, etc. but I'm also five six an' a buck 40 soaking wet... so I can't put much @$$ behind it if I wanted to, yet I get everything I need done so there's that too. I still have the one I had when I posted that a year ago... (I haven't broken one but I have lost one [actually I'm relatively sure it was stolen]... imagine if I had paid for a real stiletto.)
Funny when they say the martinez is heavy. It only FEELS heavy because less weight is off of the handle and makes the 15oz feel heavier. I likes my alpro, but i love my martinez m1. I put less work into my swing. Balance is similar to a vaughan 23oz framing hammer, Head heavy.
Yes exactly! You explained it perfectly! It's hard for me to explain to people how the Martinez feels without them actually swinging one. The Martinez has so much punch behind the swing. I love all estwing hammers but the Martinez M1 and M4 have my heart on the jobsite man, I just really love how they feel on any task
From what i took from this review considering ive used the 15oz tb3 stiletto and i now mainly use the mini 14oz stiletto, the martinez is 18" long like the tb3, the mini is 16.5" prob like the estwing al pro, all of use look to be under 6ft tall lol. Im curious what yall think of the mini matched up with the al pro
Well about time............. a "ham-n-egger" crew giving up break time for a hammer review. Nice, real nice work. Thank You
Thank you sir!
THe Martinez is lighter but its head weight heavy... More blow power gets delivered.. Its expensive though...Ill have to try the newer Estwing
You guys made me buy the al pro...can't justify buying a Martinez, but the estwing is awesome for me
Great information ,down to earth
Thanks for the review.
I've been using the 15 Oz estwing you guys have there for 7/8 years.
Finally snapped it at the handle.
I was looking for a review on the new one.
I hear it's not as durable.
But I'm looking for a stronger swing.
And light weight is numero uno.
Man That Estwing alpro is super light in the hand and packs a good punch with the dead blow built into the head. i prefer the sharpness of the claw in the martinez but the Alpro is an amazing hammer and is durable so far
I bought it. And I agree. I'm getting older and I love the weight and it still has the power. Thanks for video and the honest review.
@@matdiln Glad you like it! Thanks for watching!
As a Union Piledriver I have to say the esrwing Al pro smooth face is the best hammer period, this review is keeping it real.
you got some wrong you cant change the claw its a designe function
That Martinez really saves your shoulders, elbows, and wrists over time. But that estwing is always a go to whether it be for framing or finishing. Nice honest review
yep i agree man!
As for rough framing using 12penny, 8penny and felt cap nails the 28oz estwing waffle the the best choice. You don't have to swing it fast to set the nail and if you miss and hit your finger it kinda bounces leaving a purple spot without taking the hyde off. Once set it pounds the nail in with less energy and swings. Plus its heavy enough to bump rafters over the bird mouth undamaged when the layout is a little off.
That's why I hate 22oz hammers. You have to swing it with more speed to set the nail and if you miss due to it having a less wider head as the 28, count on it leaving a busted open bleeding finger. Especially when installing wall-brick ties. Try bumping a rafter over a little and it bust the rafter tail.
The 28oz estwing is the best choice for rough framing.
Period.
Now I know what I should get.
Boss man needs his own show 👍
Agreed!
I just bought that estwing yesterday and I love it
Hell Yeah! thanks for watching!
Where are yall from? Id love to frame with you guys just by the way you talk. Hahaha
I want to hang out with this dude.
I agree Estwing is the best
Do they sell buckeroo in the usa ?
Yep
i love the way you guys say hammer
Haha that Cajun Accent
I’ll bet if you got an m4 you’d love it, it seems like that’s a lot more your speed.
I have two of the Martinez’ m1 wouldn’t trade them for anything, a buddy at work had the aluminum estwing, he barely used it, it wouldn’t move things like he needed, doesn’t pull nails worth a dang, won’t pull things apart...literally broke in half pounding a nail....junk!
Best hammer for the money for all out framing is by far the estwing builders hammer, followed by a good old 24 or 22oz estwing, if you want a sweet hammer with a few more tricks up its sleeve the Martinez m1 with a straight handle is a slick beast, but the Stiletto Ti-bone is also a great choice.
This is a Great comment! I've been wanting to build me a All Black M4 badly! I will be ordering one soon because we are getting to the finishing side of our 2 big customs homes! Now I do like the estwing Alpro but personally, the Martinez is just one of a kind. Something about the inertia of the swing us unique. Definitely a power house if your trying to get framing to move. I am filming a M1 Torture test video this week because everybody is giving Mark Martinez shit for the heads not being forged and saying they are weak. Well we will see! I have full faith in Martinez tools!
Very informative video! Thank you sharing
Thanks for Watching!
3 years on whats the concessus?
Martinez, M4 is the way to go. I put down all pro 3 years ago and started swinging the shorter Martinez. It was a total game changer. Also quality is three times better than anything I’ve ever used so in retrospect the $300 hammer is worth the price
I wish a Stiletto would have been included but, great review of what you had.
Yea man us too, just didnt have one on hand for the video
You forgot big blue 25 oz eswing
Have you ever tried the m1 handle with a m4 head ?
not yet!
Love my estwing all pro but I hear the new M4 Martinez is worth the cheese
Boss man owns the AlPro and I own the M1. Both are absolutely amazing hammers. You wouldn't think you'd need a $100-$300 hammer until you own one! The M1 is a Cadillac in my hand, I love the inertia that comes with the swing. First month or so it was awkward because I've swung estwings for 11years but after I got used to it, I don't want to swing anything else. I'll be ordering a m4 soon for finish work
I love my M4, I like the m1 but it is a bit big.
Great video! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Lol the m1 is easily the nicest hammer in every way, form and function.
my al pro snapped in half after only about 4 months of framing so i had to buy an m1, so much better imo
You guys got to be from the bayou , love the accent.
Yes sir!
Boss man seems like a real cool cat. I’m gonna get one of those Al Pros. I have a milled face 19oz estwing like the one in the middle and I love it, just need a smooth face now.
It's funny cuz we carpenters barely use hammers except for knocking things into place. We don't drive many nails these days, so why bother with a 300 dollar hammer? I've got 6 different hammers on my truck. I don't have one hammer for everything.
Hey guys, would you still recommend the estwing alpro, have you had one break?
Yep, ours is still going strong!
Mais. Ya'll sound like you from Louisiana, baby
You already know tee!
Where y’all from yall sound like Louisiana folks. Also love the D4S shirt
Nice real honest video! you guys should try The Stiletto MINI in my opinion the stiletto MINI 14 oz is best ! The stiletto TB2 is awsome too but not a all around hammer.
We will give one a try! Thanks for watching!
You guys just saved me $200, 👍👍
Glad we could help!
Yep,, I can use either hand for my hammer too,,, I'm equally crap with both,,, ha ha ha..
(seriously tho',, I might just start saving for that Estwing,,, )
Great review guys,,,
Thanks!
You boys have sold the al pro to me
Well I have been using the al pro for a month now and I have to say it drives nails like a dream, but it sucks pulling nails, so I'm ordering the Martinez m 1, once you have a side nail puller on your hammer you will never go back. I understand that you guys are framers and rarely pull nails, but us concrete guys need that Martinez no way around it.
well even as framers, we still have fuck ups and have to pull nails haha. And we like to re-use our form up boards from concrete for dead wood in our walls. i totally agree about the estwing, swings like a dream but the baby claw kills it. ive never experienced anything like the leverage of the M1 side nail puller and also the claw on the martinez is SHARP , youll love it
since this video, i now own a M1, 2 M4's and a M79 head for the M1. If you like the M1, you will LOVE the M4
@@fixinthecoast267 I think the m4 is to small for what I do
@@josephlinares96 Very possible, each person likes their own flavor
You should consider a stiletto TB3, it’s kinda a lighter version of the Martinez m1. It was also designed by Martinez.
I love the m1, love the innovation, love that it’s customizable and easy to repair. And let’s not forget to mention that’s it’s pretty.
BUT I much rather be swinging the stiletto
Check out the Vaughan Dalluge Titanium. It’s super light, and has that dead-blow effect you get from titanium.
Oh nice! I will forsure try to get my hands on one! Thanks
can defently vouch for the dalluge i own one, best hammer ive ever used!
Coco is a lightweight the m1 is top notch
Great video
Thanks!
I am about to buy a new hammer soon. Somehow, the MANY feedback of broken Estwing Al-Pro handles keeps me off of buying this one. The M1 seems to last longer than 1 year according to costumers...
ok, so personally, i would look at what work you are using the hammer for mostly. ive used all of these hammers and by far my favorite out of all of them has been the M4 martinez. the ALpro we have still hasnt broken and gets abused however to me, the Martinez packs a better punch, has a better and sharper claw and the side nail puller is seriously a game changer. now, M1 vs M4, having both, i love how hard the m1 hits with the leverage of the longer handle, however unless your really swinging the hell out of it, it tends to feel a bit awkward being so long (still a amazing hammer), ad hitting in corners is another issue because of how big the head is on the M1. lastly the M4....i seriously love this all around hammer, it hits super hard, the handle is the perfect length, still having great leverage for the side nail puller and the head on it is the perfect size for framing and finish work. the M4 is my every day carry and personally, i wouldnt change it for anything. M4 is my vote bud. Good luck with your choice, theyre all great. Thanks for watching!
we also have a M1 torture test video on our channel that i think you should check out
Boss man is the man !

Never put enough miles on a steel hammer.
But the Stilletto is too light.
Martinez is best of both worlds.
Flip it around, twirl, finger spin.
Martinez M1 has the best balance of any hammer I've tried.
Wish they made the estwing al pro with a shorter handle. Then it would be perfect for me.

We absolutely Love our Buckaroo's, won't wear anything else!
Good Video Guys!!! Thanks very much! Beretta9MMUSA Sr.
Commercial wood framing (tiered residential) With the Martinez is a breeze i used to use a steel hammer before and it would really trigger my Carpo after using the Martinez it all went away years of abuse just stopped i love the heavier swing i can sink handies with 1 or 2 lite swings because in framing the faster you are the better!!!! Crane is on its way we need to get shit done...
Really good video
Thanks!
I have never tried any of these titanium hammers since they are not available for purchase where i live, but i get the idea of the stiletto being all titanium with just a steel face, but the martinez is just a steel hammer head with a titanium handle, is titanium really that much better than a wooden handle at reducing shock?
I personally like how to Martinez's momentum feels, it's so hard to explain without feeling it for yourself but the more I use it the more I love it!
@@fixinthecoast267 i would love to try one of them, but i work as a carpenter in denmark and our way of construction is very different from yours, we almost exclusively use screws now, except for nail guns ofcourse, and houses built completely from wood is a very rare sight unfortunately
Well the screw thing actually sound pretty interesting because if we had the available time to screw everything, we would. Screwing is so much stronger than nailing but we just dint simple have the available labor to do it. However if you ever catch a wild hair to order your self a Martinez, you'd love it!
I didn't NEED a $300 hammer, I wanted it haha. But man I'm enjoying it so much

I personally think you'd like it. The Estwing has a very light comfortable feel to it, yet hits hard! Hard to explain but the hammer Just feels Dialed. You definitely have to try one
I have a TB3 too. Why don’t you like the Martinez? I’ve heard they are both super similar?
@@proud__american8328 the martinez is probably a better hammer both made from the same guy i just prefer the stiletto you wont go wrong with either
