- 8mm cine film shot by me over three days in the final week of steam operation on BR Southern region July 1967.
Locations include Waterloo, Winchfield, Southampton, Hinton Admiral, Bounmouth, Mitchledever, Worting Junction and Basingstoke.
The video has an authentic soundtrack recorded at the time of filming.
Thank you for sharing this with us all, it's so important that these rarities are not lost!
Wonderful. Thankyou for posting!
Brings back memories, my last travel on mainline steam was late 1965 to early 1966 from Woking to Waterloo and back twice a week, it was always behind a Bulleid. I never gave it a thought at the time that it would all be over in 1967!
Fantastic yet a sad time of demise of southern steam, reminds me of my holiday in Bournemouth in 1966,travelling to the station to do some train spotting on Bournemouth’s wonderful Trolleybuses also sadly no longer in existence, thank you for sharing 👍
Great footage thanks for sharing, John
Fantastic film, thanks for sharing it
Remember seeing them on holidays.
Great Film I Enjoyed It 😊
Fantastic! Thank you.
Remarkable that they were using steam power for passenger trains pretty much right up to the end of steam. That's not how it was in the US at all - steam got pretty quickly pushed off passenger trains in favor of much cleaner diesels and electrics.
👍😊❤️
