The color balancing and split screens in this season really seem to be an homage to 1970s crime dramas, and really helps to root the season in 1979. The color balancing is a lot like "Dog Day Afternoon", and the split screens were common in police, crime, and exploitation flicks from the era, and would feel "hip" and "modern" for 1975, but were about to become "dated" and "cheesy" by about 1981. The filmmaking seems like it's from the Jimmy Carter era, as does the licensed parts of the soundtrack.

Bokeen Woodbine is so incredible in this season. Simultaneously menacing and charming. I first took note of him on Saving Grace, where he held his own on screen with Holly Hunter, and now he's one of my favorite 'that guys', who I love to see pop up in anything.
And Kirsten Dunst's performance is so good too. She's really hit a new level of her acting after Melancholia.

Yes! She was fantastic. It’s a bit heartbreaking that she lost to Lady Gaga’s okay performance in an okay season of American Horror Story.

This is probably way late, but about the camera lenses used to shoot season 2 of Fargo - they actually got period cameras and lenses that were used to shoot big motion pictures from the 1970s, which was very expensive according to Hawley but the only way to get that true “1970s” look to the color balance.

You should check out Legion. Same showrunner as Fargo carrying over a lot of his sensibilities for visual style and use of soundtrack, shows off a good handful of shared actors (especially from this season of Fargo), and it takes place in the X-Men universe (albeit with no actual connections to the movies, the one character to appear in both is recast and there's no reference to any of those events). Probably the best and most artistically daring comic book adaptation I've ever seen, and Dan Stevens as David Haller puts in one of the greatest performances I've ever seen in a television lead.

Yo I just started watching your reactions to these movies and I really like your perspective on how you’re able to appreciate so many aspects of a movie and I really think you should react to a clockwork orange. In addition to being extremely balanced with how the structure of the story is, it’s an incredibly thought provoking narrative that will have you with mixed feelings on the main character and that will leave you with much to think about by the ending which is incredible btw

Season 1-3 of Fargo are all fire. I still take Season 1 though as my favorite. Enjoy this great show. Many say Season 2 is better but i just liked Season 1 a tiny bit better. Both are the best by far. Season 3 is next and Season 4 is the "worst" while still being pretty good.

I don't know if you've noticed it before, forgive me if you have, but in case you had not, I just wanted to let you know that Lou Solverson is the father of Molly from season 1. So when he had that scene with Malvo in his dinner, that scary case he was talking about, is basically what you are about to witness in this season. I just love how they connected the stories through that.

Good reaction! Happy Holidays. Luke 2:7-14 "And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." PEACE TO YOU, JAMES!

So while we all know that the statement about true events isn't true. However this season and perticularily the events of episode one were directly inspired by the real life case of Chante Jawan Mallard. "In real life, in October 2001, Chante Jawan Mallard struck a 37-year-old homeless man, Gregory Glen Bigg. Like Culkin’s character, Biggs was lodged into the windshield, and like Dunst’s character, Mallard drove him home and parked her car in the garage with him still lodged in the windshield. Had she taken him to the hospital immediately, the homeless man would have survived (in fact, he apparently survived for several more hours after being lodged into the windshield).
Instead, the man died in her garage. She thereafter called some friends and they dumped the body in the park, later burning part of the car to disguise the evidence." The real incedent happened in Texas. I think this is as close as the movies or series ever gets to actual events, though I'm sure there were other criminal cases that inspired the writing.
