Great breakdown. Rosewood was one of my favorite movies. I remember watching this when it came out and it made me feel powerful as a young black man. Don Chedale and Ving Rames did an excellent job in this movie. Don Chedale became one of the actors I really like becasue of this role. The way he cane back in the end and told Man how he survived made me shed a tear and respect the character even more. I can't wait to watch this with my own son and explain it to him. Thanks for this break down. A lot of people looked over this movie. This is the movie they should have pushed up instead of the Color Purple.

Hands down, your best work to date. You had layers on top of layers. I love how you masterfully drew a parallel to the time of the Hebrews and juxtaposed it with the 1920s in America. On top of that, you also pointed out the parallel between the 1920s in America and the 2020s in America 😅. You are doing The Lord's work sir! I never watched Rosewood in its entirety, only clips here and there and that infamous scene that sparked all the madness. I never knew this movie was legit the perfect allegory (and cinematic adaptation of a true story) to the Black plight in America and displays dang near all the talking points that we face even today! Especially with Black men in particular. Very underrated movie and now a new favorite of mine. They would would never make a movie as honest as this one today and you know why 😏 lol. Keep your foot on the gas bro and keep doing The Lord's work!

I agree the juxtaposition of the children of Israel with black Americans. The parallels of the relationship between the Jewish community and the black American post reconstruction era 1865-1877 it has always been an exploitative relationship. There are so many parallels of people masquerading as allies to black Americans. White liberals, Jewish community, white feminists just to name a few pretending to be allies. I loved the brother touched on social dominance theory. Men are the target of violence of the in group targeted at the men of the out group. Black men were the target of lynchings, murders, land theft, peonage slavery, and vagrancy laws. Black feminists like to frame slavery, Jim Crow, post Jim Crow as black women as the main targets of white violence. Millions of acres of lands stolen by white violence. My maternal great grandfather land stolen in Maryland due to white violence. Rosewood today would be framed as CRT. It is inconspicuous the framing of black American history while at the same time the erasure of black American history to appease white Americans feelings. It is quite the conundrum.

Glad I watched this a second time because I missed some crucial tidbits switching back and forth between viewing it on my phone and TV. Goodness gracious, one free evening I simply need to sit down with some popcorn and sparkling water and have a Layman’s Journal binge fest.
So, I’m a proud 90s kid of the female variety. Though I grew up in the black community (few believe that), it took quite a bit of swirling between Germans, Italians, blacks, Cherokee Indians, and God knows what else to bring me into existence. To this day, only The Simpsons gives representation to my pigmentation. I was also adult-adopted by white parents into the True United Nations. I currently reside in a world I never knew existed in a town where multiracial families are abundant and people in general are very welcoming yet traditional for the most part.
I believe my first exposure to this film was in the seventh grade. We were on a long roll of old southern Virtuous Blacks vs. Eeevil Whites movies at the time, so they all bled together for me. Rosewood stood out to me because of Esther Rolle and the lesson that stuck with me hard. That lesson was the consequences of stupid lying. Not of lying in general- but stupid, stupid unnecessary lies that can lead to unimaginable repercussions. I never could have predicted that Rosewood would merely foreshadow the tyranny of MeToo. It’s insane to think that a few fabricated words/tears from women can lead to anything from a man’s reputation being permanently ruined to the slaughter of countless unborn children.
I never expected your video to hit me on as deep an emotional level as it did. That particular scene with Aunt Sarah haunted me for years because yes, she’s Florida from Good Times and I was mainly following her throughout the movie. Outside of that painfully horrible moment, others that stand out include:
-Miss MeToo screaming about being attacked by a nig.
-Scrappy asking about her aunt.
-Sylvester(?) telling that young boy that he had to become a man and lead the women and younger children away.
-Miss MeToo crying, “Why did they hurt that old woman?” and one of my classmates exclaiming, “Because you lied!” Seriously, you have no idea how appropriate your video title is.
The other reason this got to me so much is because I’m in security and I was there for the second and third rounds of major riots a couple of years ago. It was still during the Covid scare so I was monitoring a mostly empty office building. My only thought was keeping us from getting penetrated. I also want to point out that a male security officer voluntarily watched my back while I got us locked down. While we were fortunate that we only got a little graffiti on our building, I saw the aftermath the next day and in various RUclips videos. It was shell shocking and sometimes I still drift off into a state of disbelief at the elderly shopkeepers and other business owners who were ruined by those fools. Just like in Rosewood, they used some falsified racially charged BS as an excuse for violence and theft. Worse than Rosewood, they’re egged on even more so by mainstream media dumping gasoline all over the fire.
Something I appreciate about you is that you try to be fair to everyone instead of sinking into a pitiful us vs. them mentality. I really loved you comparing the blacks in Rosewood to the ones in The Color Purple. It’s hard to imagine there really used to be a strong patriarchal structure in the black community as led by men like Sylvester. While it was wicked of the government to prey on black women with those project incentives, the women did not have to fall for it so embarrassingly easily. Honestly, even with men like you and others making their voices known, I don’t think there’s any hope of reversing the cannibalization the black community has devolved into.
As we see in Rosewood, there really was a time when black people had to walk on eggshells around white people. We are so far removed from the very concept of that today and that’s what angers me about these race hustlers desperate to keep the hatred alive. These idiots trying to grasp onto the last little remnants of the past are the only thing keeping us from living in Racial Utopia, essentially. I suppose the best we can do is to continue shining a light on the profound stupidity.
I would love to hear more of your thoughts about government interference leading to the massive separation of black men as heads of their community. Perhaps you could do a video on Boys in the Hood and/or Lean on Me to elaborate on those points.

This video was brilliant! The details identifying their characteristics was on point! I also enjoyed the Biblical reference that tied everything together! Another thing I picked up about Johnny Right is he is a representation of white liberals (Brother Malcolm warned blacks about) the whites who infiltrate black communities and culture by using chameleon like tactics to blend in. This is exactly why Blacks need to stop inviting everyone outside the race to the cookout! The scene with Johnny Wright sitting in the church while Sylvester was talking to the black community on how to handle their dilemma is a prime example of someone non-blacks think just because they have inserted themselves in the black culture that they have a say in their matter and actually think they are the only hope. Great breakdown of this very important film.

I believe The reason he wanted Mr. Mann to stay and fight was because he wanted them good ole boys to end Mr. Mann. With Mr. Mann out of the way he could buy that property that coveted so much. With Sylvester he actually kinda admire him in his own race- his way because he is strong male head of the family and he has known him longer than Mr. Mann. And if Sylvester dies protecting his family it would be devastating to that family that he's known for a long time and they probably won't frequent his business anymore. With Mr. Mann it would be taking out 2 birds with one stone. He would give the angry mob that suspect and he can get his property. It's a cold game and it's rigged.

This was good but, I didn't see the part where alot of the black men was hiding but, when train came ,they came out of the wood works. They were not willing to fight like Sylvester.
