Ah, my heart! If you excuse me, I might flatter Can Bonomo (pronounced like "John" btw, "C" in Turkish is pronounced like "J" in English) here for a bit haha, he really is one of my favorite Turkish musicians and also because I think his Eurovision performance (although I like it) doesn't compare to what he actually does. He's a poet and illustrator at the same time, he has 3 poetry books published, he had an art exhibition in the previous years and he hosts 2 podcasts. Since he writes poetry, every song he ever sang in his career, he wrote and composed himself and he sings exclusively in Turkish, this is the only time he ever sang in English. If I remember correctly, there was 35 different instruments used in this song. If you would be interested in checking out more of him, I can recommend you the songs Meczup, Tastamam, Hikayem Bitmedi and Dem to begin with. The videos to the songs are always very well made and interesting as well (he was even the director of one of his own videoclips to the song 'Ruhum Bela'). By the way, vibrato is very common in traditional Turkish folk music as well as Turkish classical music. But at the same time it's a very characteristic feature of Can's music, which you will easily notice if you check out his other songs.

Not the best Turkish entry but it has that Eurovision-esque element, and I save some special feeling because this was the last Turkish entry since they left. I wish they come back someday. The blokes are just mmm... 🤩

Not my favorite Turkish entry, but I like it and I always appreciate ethnic sound. The choreography was also something else :) I wish they would come back, they really served us so many good songs!

I would love Turkey to come back but, for reasons we all know, that's unlikely in the immediate future. The following year, 2013, Turkey launced it's own Turkovision Song Contest with participants from Turkic countries and regions. It only ran for 3 years with winners from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. As for this song, it was a slightly disappointing way to bow out considering Turkey's past entries. And his name - Can? In Turkish the letter C is pronounced like an English J, so his name is pronounced "Jan" 😃
