    Now let's look at plays!
    ================
    This 1st episode of the year is going to be a longer episode. The plays are not controversial plays. We are primarily focusing on positioning and habits of the crew. As we embark on the season we want to have a to-do list of things that we're focusing on and those have to include the basics of court positioning:
    • how our body is positioned to the players on the court
    • identifying the players and the matchups in our primary coverage area
    • officiating the most important things
    • positioning our body so that we have maximum information receiving capability
    • obtain and maintain open looks on plays
    These are the basics we have to be focused on them and working actively at all times to make sure that we are accomplishing the basics.

      Hey Greg. So glad to be joining your assoc. this year. i have a question. At 4:57 you stopped and said you had a good look at the play underneath cause there's nothing happening elsewhere which is certainly correct. But you asked whether, as the trail, you'd have been able to get that foul had the L or C not. My question is are you not blocked out by 3 players in between. Just from the video it appears to me like there may be some players in the way. See you soon. Best.

    Great video for training purposes. I appreciate your giving pros and cons of the play. Positioning of the officials (whether good or bad) is important to point out in order for the officials to know where they should be on a given play. Nice work G-Money!!

    Thanks Greg! Great first video of the season. Good reminders on the basics that need to be second nature (or at least headed in that direction). Regarding Play #4, after first watching it, I thought for sure you were going to comment on the big kid in the dark jersey (couldn't quite see his number) crashing on the rebound and displacing #2 White before the double foul was called on him. Question 1: is that a good no-call? Question 2: since the C has the drive to the basket, would the T be the one to get first crack at that rebound crasher, even though it borderline comes from C's PCA?

    I find these videos of great value. I may get eaten up for this, but Play 3 has a LOT wrong, as you point out, but sure looks like a hollywood acting job by the player falling backwards with a very late elbow showing in the clip. IMHO. Keep it coming!

      Hi Keith. I agree with you 100%. The video quality is super poor, white could certainly have taunted prior to the push away. He could have had his foot stepped on that's why he lost his balance got. All of those things are true, but the point is the habits of the crew lead to an unofficiated play. And that's the problem.

    Both double fouls, wow or atypical play, I always want to communicate with my team. But not everyone wants to do it. Slow down is what I try to do

    • @BetterOfficials

      Obviously I think you are on the exact right path. Always mention it in your pregame to set the stage. Always put the game first, which sometimes means slowing down so we make sure to get the adjudication right.
