They used the Doctor's face from 1967-1989 and 2012-present. (Most of 2nd Doctor, all of 3rd to 7th, some 11th, all 12th). Episodes without the Doctor's face were in 1963-1967, 1996, 2005-2012 (All of 1st Doctor, some 2nd, all of 8th to 10th, most of 11th).
They still need to transition to either a smile or a blink, That would make it even more nostalgic. I always feel like a kid again when the 7th doctor blinks at me in his intro.
This is probably my absolute favourite doctor who intro ever. The doctor who intros always show the TARDIS going through space, but this one has also managed to portray the him going through time as well. I love it when the spirals of the clock face spin and dissolve. Some of the sound effects sound like a big clock tower tocking! It's also fantastic to the return to showing a face as well.
A decade ago ⬅️ when I was still in high ✏️ in my 10th year I made a project in media class called; Time Traveller I didn't know I was going to make this until I saw Dr Who! What's interesting is I used a 🌀 clock with Roman numerals for my intro and travelling across time I also ❤️ how they used it in series 8️⃣ & it's my favourite ☝️🏻out of all of them! 😎🙃😉🤩😁
Doctor Who wish someone would release the full version that includes the missing middle half of the song the intro's always skip over, unless Murray Gold forget to record that part again? or simply saving it for the series 8 soundtrack? :P
This was my first era. Staying up late with my sister and seeing terrific episodes such as that oxygen capitalist one, that truth one, and the finale was an amazing time to be a middle schooler.
Capaldi was the new doctor for me, since me and my dad started watching when series 7 was new, so Matt smith was the current doctor. This opening is also the most artistic and interesting to me, since it has a very distinct style we haven’t seen before or since
i was wicked young when i started watching dr who. my first doctor was david tenant, mind you i was 3 years old at the time, and i was an elementary schooler during 12
Charizarzar the music was good but the animation was just horrible. The windows looked like they were painted on and don't get me started about the doors opening the wrong way
TARDISArchives I saw Billy's fan intro on the day it came out, and people were saying stuff in the comments like "this is REALLY good, but it isn't very doctor who." I wonder what they think now that the "not doctor who" intro led to this.
People hate this song Intro for many reasons, but the laziest excuse is 'It doesn't show the Time Vortex!' and that is so childish. Look not EVERY opening needs to show the time Vortex, remember the Tardis also travels in Space, not just time. In my opinion this opening shows exactly what this show is about, for the most part. The cogs and clock faces represent time, the Tardis passing by said clock faces is it traveling through time. Then we see the Tardis pass by a few planets, showing that the Tardis can travel in space. Personally, this is my favourite opening. (This got way more attention then I expected it too. O.O)
Wow, a clean version of the Twelfth Doctor titles. And no BBC logo in the top left corner of the video, only under the Doctor Who logo. Happy birthday, Peter Capaldi.
By far my favorite intro visually- The clock theme, the planets- it perfectly fits what Doctor Who is about at it's core- travelling through time and space.
It's about time we finally got an HD version of this on RUclips. My favourite official Doctor Who title sequence to date. The clock motif is very welcome. My only major gripe is that the Tardis looks like it's made of rubber. I know CGI has it's limits but this hasn't been an issue for previous titles of the modern era. Also NeonVisual's rendition of this blows all others out of the water.
Ikr, people say "Oh well it doesn't have the time vortex and that's like a given for any title sequence so this is bad," when the 5th Doctor titles was flying through stars, and the 7th Doctor titles was flying around a galaxy.
Happy Birthday, Peter Capaldi! You are an amazing human being with a great sense of humour and incredible acting skills, thank you for making the world a better place! Definitely my Doctor! ^^
My favorite part about this theme is the drop in key on the second measure of the bassline (right before the clockface pops up). It adds a lit more variation and a sense of power that some of the other themes have lacked. Also, listening to this in surround sound is a treat. so many little subtleties that get missed otherwise.
This theme was so different to the last few, but it's why I loved it. A real breath of fresh air. It also perfectly encapsulated the feeling of travelling through time as much as space
12th Doctor is my absolute favorite. I love everything about how Capaldi played the Doctor. The fact that he was older, how he was always grouchy, he had the perfect amount of (mostly) understated and dry humor, but could also make you laugh out loud. He was perfect. I hate that he didn't get more than 3 sseasons. Seems like he got shortchanged compared to Tennant and Smith.
I don't understand why people dislike this intro, personally I find this my favourite, for them they say it's too 'whiny' is ridiculous, the music might be different but still it's new and it is well made.
If they complain about this being whiny show them one of the 80s intros. Those things are practically pure synthesizer. That said I love this intro. It's amazing!
Soyjuvis Murray Gold does in fact make a full version of every theme he has made. It is up too bbc whether they use it or not. Although the theme is pretty bad, I would also like a full theme
i didnt even know people disliked this theme! i love it, it suits capaldis doctor so well and the added vibrato of those instruments gets me... ugh so good!!!!
I hated this version of the theme when I first heard it. Then after Jodie’s 2 seasons it grew on me. Same with Matt Smiths, thought it was way over the top. Then I ended up loving it. Not sure what they did to Jodie’s, but (2021) it no longer sounds like a warm fart easing through your pants and vibrating off the vinyl couch.
I'm so glad they started putting the Doctor's face into the intro again.
The 2012 Matt Smith titles starting with The Snowmen already implemented the Doctor's face.
When did they not (have the face)?
From 8th to 10th.

The TARDIS is never shown going though space except from the movie
Actually the stuff around the Tardis in the intros was meant to represent it going through time

I don't know about anyone else's opinion, but I actually love this theme. Capaldi's Doctor fits this theme, to me at least.
It really does

Yea, he was great in season 9
DragonFang 409 I'm waiting for season 10, too. It looks really great, just from the teaser video.

We've revised the audio for this title sequence so you can enjoy it at full blast!
Ah
Doctor Who wish someone would release the full version that includes the missing middle half of the song the intro's always skip over, unless Murray Gold forget to record that part again? or simply saving it for the series 8 soundtrack? :P
Subscribed DOCTOR WHO IS AWESOME
The Rabbid It's on the soundtrack. Murray confirmed it
Should have revised it with the more classic sounding version of the audio.
This was my first era. Staying up late with my sister and seeing terrific episodes such as that oxygen capitalist one, that truth one, and the finale was an amazing time to be a middle schooler.
I bet.
In retrospect Capaldi really was an amazing Doctor. If he had been given better scripts then he would probably overtake Tennant as the fan favorite.
Someone's first era being Capaldi makes me feel kinda old :)
Capaldi was the new doctor for me, since me and my dad started watching when series 7 was new, so Matt smith was the current doctor. This opening is also the most artistic and interesting to me, since it has a very distinct style we haven’t seen before or since
i was wicked young when i started watching dr who. my first doctor was david tenant, mind you i was 3 years old at the time, and i was an elementary schooler during 12
How can people hate such a perfect intro?
I'm wondering how people call this theme "whiny" as opposed to the trumpet infused theme with 11's intros.
***** *deaf. And I doubt we are.
Steel Spurs I found the 11th too bombastic but it wasn't what I would call whiny.
Charizarzar the music was good but the animation was just horrible. The windows looked like they were painted on and don't get me started about the doors opening the wrong way
This one is probably my second favourite, because 9s was fantastic.
0:08 I love it when the clock comes up and makes that spiraling sound.
Ikr so satisfying
I didn’t notice that. Nice sound.
i didn't notice that until now lol
If you listen carefully as the TARDIS goes backwards so does the sound go into reverse.
This is the only Dr Who opening that I actually looked up on RUclips because it’s simply brilliant. Capaldi is The Doctor.
I remembering loving Billy's fan intro before I saw this debut at the Doctor Who world tour which was so exciting! A great opener title sequence :)
TARDISArchives I saw Billy's fan intro on the day it came out, and people were saying stuff in the comments like "this is REALLY good, but it isn't very doctor who."

+pokefire5 Pretty sure it does show the vortex. After the clock sequence its a vortex thingy
+BioDroidCell Yes but the TARDIS dosen't travel through flying clocks either in space or wispy cogwheels :/
The cogs are a metaphor for travelling through/in time.
BioDroidCell
But the majority of the fandom don't give a shit for metaphors.
I thought the animation and design we're fine, I just disliked the music, especially the part at 0:30. It sounds like an oboe mixed with a synthesizer
Wow, a clean version of the Twelfth Doctor titles. And no BBC logo in the top left corner of the video, only under the Doctor Who logo.
Happy birthday, Peter Capaldi.
Nearly clean, the names are still there, although I don't think we'll be getting that soon
CaptainGrumpy I'm not too bothered about the names and logo still appearing on there.
am i the only one that actually really likes the soundtrack?
No its really cool
I like the revised bersion by NeonVisual I think people will enjoy that a lot more than this one
Series 1-6 didnt sound weird but they were more popular.
Just because the audience wants one thing doesn't make it good. There's a reason why DR Suess is good. He did what he wanted.
So you want to give them something they hate, because you know better?
This is beauty, the 3D animation works so good with Capaldi everything just works perfectly 9/10
A great title sequence and theme, but a shame when it's not synced up properly with the title sequence in some episodes.
CloisterProductions I think it sounds too high pitched and whiny.
Its a fact that high pitched whine urghhh sends shivers down my spine
I agree with Megan, it's way to high pitched while Capaldi is a darker doctor, so.... i expect the next intro to have a lower, deeper sound.
CloisterProductions It was fixed on the Blu Ray Release though!
Yeah? GOOD! :D

I like all the intros! This one has a sort of clockwork feel to it.

My favorite part about this theme is the drop in key on the second measure of the bassline (right before the clockface pops up). It adds a lit more variation and a sense of power that some of the other themes have lacked.
