This is a very similar version of Stack the Deck by Laura Denison Designs, just one hinge at a time. Laura Denison also does at hinge version called T-Square binding, this is the one I prefer you can also do one hinge at a time, decorate each page seperatly then add to your book.
Yes, I love Laura's hinge. I don't use it enough but I believe she hadn't come out with it yet. Also I did't invent this hinge I was just showing what we used to use.

Yes you could but might want to make the gusset bigger if the signature is thicker that way you will have room for the extra pages
This time I'll use woodprix instructions to make it by my hand :)
