I had a 2022 Outback Wilderness and now have the 2023. As others stated before, the changes made to the infotainment system made a world of difference. Another cool thing about the Outback Wilderness is that with the 17 inch wheel, there is more sidewall to help absorb bumps, pot holes and all the other little things. I was on a road trip to visit my mom in Auburn Alabama and managed to get 32 MPG on the trip. I had the adaptive cruise control set on eco and had the speed set right under 70. Would I have liked to have gone faster? Oh yeah, but gas was over $5 a gallon and I would have had to sell feet pics to pay for turbo driving and ticket money. The car is a tank. My 2022 was t-boned. Long story short, I ended upside down and it was totaled. I crawled out of the wreckage with just a concussion. The people who witnessed the wreck were surprised to see that I survived.
I love my 22 wilderness, best road-tripper I ever had. Great for camping and some mild offroads. Tows 1500lbs trailer without any issues. pros. Seats are great and easy to clean, roomy, good amount of HP to make this beast move. cons: cvt not the greatest experiance, laggy screen, no 7-pin connector, gas millage could be little better...but turbo engine makes my face smile.
Subie subie suuuuu My wife has a 2014 Crosstrek. It rides well and it's really comfortable. But since it's stock, it doesn't give me the giggles like my 2014 fiesta ST does. Both stock but fun factor I gotta give it to my fiesta. However, the paddle shifters are so fun to use 😎
@Smallbore2wheels SUBIE GANG!!! I had a 2019 Crosstrek...also slow...but had a blast with the 6speed manual it had. As for the Party Street (Fiesta ST) I LOVE those cars. but being 6'2 300+lbs its hard to fit LOL. Thanks for watching! Patty-Rick
Just took ownership of my new 2024 Outback Wilderness (in Forest Green and Black), and I have to say you guys are right on the money. I've owned two WRX's from Subaru in the past (and a Forester, Crosstrek, and Ascent). My last one was a 2022 WRX and because I have towing needs, I decided to sell it back to Subaru and get the Outback Wilderness instead. I was hesitant as I love a good manual transmission WRX, and there was nothing wrong with mine other than- it wasn't a wagon, not nearly as practical, and pretty much terrible for serious fire road travel. I thought I was selling my soul, as I love manual transmission vehicles... and I honestly did not really like my auto transmission Ascent at all (not very good offroad). Not the case. I can't believe how much fun this Outback Wilderness is. Your right, perfect mix of performance, form, and function. I got used to the big info screen after making some changes to the brightness and icon placements. 2024 seems to have worked out some of the niggles you guys mention, faster access to heated seats and the climate control for example... I would have preferred a CD player still (yep still listen to them!) but I can live without that. I can't believe the power delivery and how much better tuned the CVT and gearing is compared to my 2021 Ascent, night and day better..so much fun, actually like the paddle shifters which gives me part of the feeling of control of a manual trans (not the same without a clutch, but it gets closer). Great review and enjoyed it.
If there were more physical buttons for commonly used items, the screen lag would prob barely be noticed. The manuals are dead because no one buys them in any numbers to make the engineering, certification for both crash and EPA, and then production worth the, maybe 150 of them theyd sell. Id prefer it too but no manufacturer of mainstream vehicles is going to cut their own throat to consistent profits like that. All that said, Im deeply jealous of the car, in that color. Im on my 7 Subaru. 3rd Outback. Thats probably going to be my next one when my current one is ready to be replaced. Good luck on the new channel. Subbed.

I used to watch your motorcycle vids when I spent all my time on the racetrack. Now I spend my time off-road in my Outback Wilderness and here you are again!😆 bring it up to Blue Ridge sometime and we’ll put it to the test on the trails!
So I just bought an outback Wilderness; it came with special Wilderness all-weather floor and trunk mats, including the wheel well and back of the seats. They’re very nice! Surprised it wasn’t on that car you had. I really like the car, looking forward to starting my tour of all the National Parks! Great Job on the Video!
Just purchased a blue 2023 Wilderness. We love it - 5 stars all the way. Wish it had a heated steering wheel at this price point. Highly recommend the Wilderness.
Just got a 2023 and the screen setup is much better, no longer do you need to go to a menu to adjust heated seat settings. It also changes screens and responds much faster. Had a 2020 Outback base before this and it was buggy still after 2 years and 2 updates.
@kenCheng and @Afpiper good to know. We are looking to see if the dealer is able to update it for us soon. Just gotta find time for a visit. thanks Patty-Rick

I just got a 2023 outback wilderness and I freakin LOVE it. It is SUCH a nice drive. Great video it’s the only car video that’s been fun to watch and I learned a couple things about my car!
You guys did a great video. Now you need to take it on the trail and test it’s off-road capabilities. A few years ago, I was buying a new vehicle for the family. I am 6’8”. Add wife and boys who were 6’3”, 6’9”, and 6’4” and we looked at 30 different makes/models before we settled on our first Subie Outback. We now own 4 Subarus! Totally sold on them.
The wheels on the Wilderness scratches very easily. And black wheels look like they’re what you put your studded winter tires on. The StarTex interior was in my dad’s 1972 Opel GT, but back then it was called VINYL.
@Doc1855 we have heard the wheels can be a bit fragile. We may or may not be looking into some aftermarket options if that is the case for Chase's Wilderness. Thank you for all the comments! Patty-Rick
Subaru needs to add the leg extension seat as standard in the wilderness. At 6'4'' I love the seat extension in my Limited. Would have bought the Wilderness but for that option not available. Great video review! Best I have seen for us Taller Gentlemen or Sasquatches.
cool feature would be a physical button that you can assign to anything the touch screen offers. like if the most used feature you like is heated seat, then that button you can program it for that. like radio stations or memory seat !

Hubby and I just bought the 2023 Wilderness edition. We traded in our "Honda Fit overpriced tin can from hell" and I adore the car while hubby is more "meh". The engine is overkill for our needs, but I couldn't resist the power after my tin can. I wish it had more knobs instead of multiple menus to go through, but the screen is perfect and works instantly. The only time I freaked out was when the car decided I was too close behind a semi truck and took off to the right of it. It's a truck lane and is very short but wasn't sure if the car knew that. I hit the brakes as I didn't want to crash into the semi truck or scare the crap out of him going around the short road. At fifty dollars a fill up versus 30 it's a gas guzzler
Glad to hear for the 2023 Wilderness they were able to make some great improvements to the infotainment system! And the power is certainly addictive! Patty-Rick
True about the manual transmission. I had an 2005? Outback XT with a 5speed short throw shifter and the 2.5 turbo. What a great car! I love this car, sans the lack of tactile knobs for certain features like the heating/AC controls, radio/CD player, and heated seats. Great car though. I test drove one last year and that CVT transmission is kind of weird... I have a 20' WRX 6 speed and do love a manual!

We didn't notice it to be significantly louder to any other vehicles. The CVT Transmission does tend to hold the "Gears" a bit longer than a traditional transmission so that may be where the extra noise is coming from. Full size SUV ??? What the fuk are you talking about ?? Even at the limits of its segment, the Outback is considered a mid-sized crossover /SUV and that is pushing it to begin with based on cargo capacity and interior dimensions. In fact, in most dimensions, it is easily compared to compact vehicles such as the Rav4 and CRV. That's not putting it down, it's just a fact.

How’s the stereo?
How big are you guys?
Is a trailer hitch standard?
Not in the wilderness outback. They do have a OEM option that I’m going to be getting installed here soon.
Do you notice the engine noise to be louder than most cars? Any reasons as to why?
We didn't notice it to be significantly louder to any other vehicles.

So, enjoyed the video. The wife wants one of these.
[Happened to notice] You might want to wash the salt/sweat stains out of your hat.
Oh, and do you use the roof racks on a regular basis?
If not, save a mpg or two and take them off until you need them.

HAHA I am prone to agree, everything is better with three pedals!

Subaru is getting way too much cheap looking boring black cladding, even more with the 23 year model.
Great for rust prevention.
@@Account-kx5vr Not underneath the cladding.
Since it holds moisture, salt and debris, you can’t remove it, so it rusts underneath
The key to CVT longevity? Change the fluid every 40k.
