I visited the Gennett studios in 1967 when they were still standing (I believe the whole plant was owned by Mercury). It is truly extraordinary how many great jazz, hillbilly, and blues musicians were recorded there.

Having interviewed Rick Kennedy for WFHB when he published the 1st edition, he is candid and accurate about Gennett's relationship with Paramount records. When Charlie Patton recorded in Richmond, Gennett was under a contract with at that time studio-less Paramount Records of Grafton, WI to record Charlie for a $40 per side. Paramount ceased recording in 1932 while Gennett stopped in 1934, the same year Patton passed.

IT's amazing how both of Paramount & Gennett was furniture corp. during the same years in different cities...IS THAT RIGHT, or are they connected,-because the same blues recording artist is on both LABELS and they both disappeared duroing the depression..explain that

You need to tell people why they should buy the new version of the book--what critical material has been added?

Anton: I guess it is the updated Scrapper Blackwell story. Did you see Rick Kennedy's other video here? I think he wanted to do a whole book on Scrapper. Updating his Gennett book may have been an expedient way of getting the info out there. Anyway, check with the I.U. Press.

Lol highly inaccurate. They need to look at Paramount's history.
