I know this is a great cover by the fact that, when he switches tracks, I’m confused at first like “What is this?” Then he breaks into the actual melody from the track as written in the game and I’m like, “Oh! That’s genius! It fits perfectly!”
With the 80's style of rock and the 90's intensity, both fused with a fictional vision of a future full of robotic life that coexisted with humans, Mega Man X had some unique soundtracks and visuals that still stand the test of time. You managed to capture the soul of this era in gaming in ways that make my heart skip a beat
That feeling you had when you finally beat all the Mavericks....and then get into the Sigma Stage...makes you feel amazing...you are one step closer to your goal,X is one step closer to save the world
I consider Sigma Stage 1 in X1 to be the Magnum Opus of ALL Sigma Stages in the entire X series, musically speaking (and in general) I consider Metalltool to be the Magnum Opus of music creators. Given that my Birthday was Christmas Eve, I consider this to be both a Birthday AND a Christmas gift! You absolutely nailed the very emotional and climactic feeling that this entire stage radiates, and you did so with absolute love and dedication. The hype of the last stages, the revenge on Vile for his beatdown on X at the beginning of the game, the emotional loss of Zero (for the first time), the trek through to the Bosspider, the start of the boss rush fights, all showing that NOTHING will stop us from taking this fight to Sigma, and ending this ONCE AND FOR ALL (for the first time).
Just passing by two years later, i did get that game too during Christmas, i couldn't count the number of time i did finish it just for the sake of both gameplay and music.
8:26 It's a little-noticed part, just as in the game the lamentation can't last long, the fight continues, and the way the song ends exactly as it started really conveys that, incredible!
Man you packed a lotta shit into this. Awesome arrangement. I reaaaally like what you did with Zero's theme in this one in particular - I had a very similar idea back in the day but didn't have the skills to do it. Great job, and happy new year :>
I played this game so damn much as a kid. This stage was the one where it went from being just a fun badass game to personal. The soundtrack and the loss of Zero set me off big time.
Remember how you felt when you finally got to this stage. I don't think it was easy for any of us, them we all know who we lost later... Just noticed Zero's sacrifice in the pic. Great music, great visual. You covered it all.
NGL I almost cried when I saw Zero's death for the first time. I remember that it happened at my aunt's house. Her son had a SNES and I remember when I saw the MMX cartridge already inserted in the console. I wanted to enjoy this moment because my dad was already thinking about going back to our house,, so I tried my best to finish the game before we left. I had never gotten this far playing alone. This day was a special day because I was going out with my dad to buy my first GBA game (Pokémon Leaf Green). This brings back so many good memories that I spent with my father. This remix just took me back to that time when everything was simpler and fun. Thanks for all those remixes. I really appreciate it. Thanks for everything Bruno V!
You're welcome! The first X installment came off as really serious, compared to the campy classic games. That feeling when Zero sacrifices himself and then you carry that chip on your shoulder as the player and have to face the big evil alone. Loved that as a kid.
Bro I was young at a daycare center and we were all huddled around a snes. I saw a purple guy blow up a red elephant metal dude in a container, elephant man started bleeding out the mouth, and then a blue man stepped into picture. This is how I saw it as a kid because I was so young but I now know it was this game and scene. First time I saw and learned about death and killing.
I didn't get a Christmas present this year. Not that I mind too much now, because we all got something better -- this blessing of a track and piece of art. Words can't describe how much soul and hard work I can sense from hearing this. It takes a real effort to rail off the same old habits, defaults, templates one could say, because this is nothing like any other track I've seen here before (it dismisses that usual "first loop cover, solo percussion, second loop completely remixed" Metalltool standard. I'm not complaining, I've liked every remix so far, either way or another. But this is so much great I think it has been your most ambicious track so far and I am in awe for that.
Since a young lad, this stage was my favorite of all the X games and for whatever reason when I searched for quality remixes to this legendary track it came back very sparse. I haven't given up over the years and I gotta say I finally found something that transcends the original and it gives it the proper respect it deserves. Always a joy listening to your tracks and how they break the term remix!
I have to admire your way of telling a story through your covers. Always making them your own in a way that keeps the integrity of the song intact. It is always a treat to hear one of your new songs, the extra time you take to make them perfect is easy to notice. The best Christmas gift anyone could ask for, incredible work!
I have no words to describe how good the remix turned out for you. I couldn't stop smiling as I listened to it. Megaman X was the Megaman game I played in my life, listening to Sigma stage 1 again brought me so many memories, memories of a simpler (and happier) life. You perfectly captured the epicity of this stage with this stage, keep up the good work.
Sincerely, I was blown away by this tune. The progression from one melody to another revived so many nostalgic emotions from the good times I spent with this game! Many thanks for bringing this work of art and gifting it to our ears. Here's hope things keep going the right way on your end and may we always bask on good music like this for a long, long time.
What I appreciate most about you is that you dont just take a great song and improve it's instrumentation, you add more to it and make it tenfold better than the original. Your way of making music heavily inspired mine....and you have great thumbnails.
Your ability to tell a story through your music is endlessly impressive...not to mention cool as heck! This sounds like some kinda Megaman X musical. I especially love the buildup and sendoff of Zero. I mean, wow. Words can't describe how awesome this is. Thank you for making it!
Metalltool comes back like a Phoenix. This Vile Zero X remix was dope and hits the nostalgia. I got Megaman X for christmas that year. So many emotions. Thank you bro !!! Come back more frequent with live streams
Yeah... this is the most nostalgic stage for me in X1. Remember as kid hardly being able to climb the platforms that led to the fortress, and it would be such a great achievement for me just climbing up there. That climb alone tells the player the game won't go easy on them from there on. Also, the first song imposes how huge the challenges X would have to overcome to defeat Sigma's tyranny would be, and it definitely shows here. Amazing cover... as usual!
5:09 love that metallic percussive sound here, it's nearly identical in the OG MMX game, guess it was a sample of sorts? What the heck is that sound from? It's probably an interesting rabbit hole to go down
I'm pretty sure you're referring to the "Hit" sound. It's usually a thing from the late 80's early 90's, those orchestra hits. It was also used in a lot of New Jack music and Rap, which also influenced me as I was growing up. It definitely is an important and reappearing sound in the Megaman X soundtrack. I actually used the preset "Impact" on my Roland JV-1080 (Preset Bank B: 071 Impact), which sounds close to what they used in 1993 when working on the soundtrack. I tend to use a lot of synths from that time period to get my sounds
Dude, this is flawless! Probably my favorite remix of yours! Sigma Stage 1 is to me, peak music composition. The way it conveys all the emotions that go for the stage, as well as what happens there is amazing. I love how you amplified that by adding other themes like Vile's and the cutscene music. Thanks for this, and Merry Christmas!
I cant believe someone beasted out on the bass part too! Me and my buddy were just discussing the other day what a bunch of crazy riffs and pops and slaps are in there. I hear the whole actual bass part in here! This is insanely next level for covers in my book…
"Maybe, but im not through yet!" Words I live by. And you immortalized Zeros first sacrifice with prompt metal glory. Keep up the amazing work Metaltool!
I love Mega Man X and its entire OST and it is what made me into the metalhead I am today. You, my friend, truly get it. You are both a musician and a true fan of the series. You're not trying to make another weekly video to make ends meet. You're making this because you love and enjoy every aspect of this series. I respect that and it's clearly obvious in every track you've composed and posted. I've bought all of your MMX material (not played the other ones you covered admittedly). If do you decide to do more I'm 100% confident you will do better than every mainstream videogame guitarist (FamilyJules7X, LittleVMills, ToxicEternity, etc.) to name a few. You've beat them all. Not by outshredding them but through pure composition. You've obviously got a heart for the series that isn't tied to any financial interest so it's unbiased. What everyone is listening to is you and your spare time. Keep it up!
After a decade hiatus from music, I recently started composing again. Your covers have been life goals for me. This is incredible. I'll consider myself highly successful if I can capture a portion of what you present to the world.
I subbed after listening to your Gravity Bettle cover and even in the comments they said you don't upload covers that often............... But everytime you do they're *MASTERPIECES!* . Merry Christmas Metalltool ! !... and be asured your work and effort is not in vain, your Mega Man X tributes are something out of this world and i will always support you, even if i now can only listen, like and share your covers to my friends
Unbelievable work. A great tribute, well done! Takes me back as well to playing Megaman X as a kid. 5:09 gave me anxiety and flashbacks of spiders. Thank you for taking time with this; it really paid off.
I am EXTREMELY particular about my Mega Man remixes. When it comes to the classic series, only the original NES or the CPS2 Power Battle/Fighters versions will do. When it comes to the X series, honestly, nothing has ever sounded right outside of the SNES originals. You have changed that. This is absolutely sublime, and I hope you do the whole of the X1-3 soundtracks in like fashion. Thank you for this. Amazing work.
I always appreciate your glorious remixes of Mega Man X series themes. When I listen to them, I remember the feeling had while playing them as a kid. And big respect for making them sound so damn good!
Bro. I am a huge fan of Megaman. I have a few covers in my channel but i cannot compare them with yours. First your Wily Stage 3 Remix, then this masterpiece. You have truly put your heart into this one. I can feel it. You are combining amazing melodies with your own style. This is wonderful.
I love your covers/remakes. That being said, I really wish you let the bassline shine more in your final edit for this song. The bassline of this song is one of the absolute best parts, and it feels a bit overshadowed by the guitar and synth.
Amazing goddamn track. The chill of those initial synths, and then when things get rocking, you know things are ON! The one track to pump you up to take down an evil empire! Magnificent work!
i wish i could like this 1000000000 times. gorgeous. i can feel the love that came out of developing this and the transitions from outside the tower to fighting vava/vile to zero's death were all done seamlessly. you really captured that feeling of playing through the level perfectly! AWESOME as always!
Man, this has to be one of the best covers of this amazing track. The solos were the cherry on top! Definitely agree this is more like a journey you took us on and I thank you XD
Absolutely stellar covers. Sigma stage 1, Pre boss fight, Vile boss theme, and Variable X. You nailed it Heard some notes that i am familar with from the Megaman Zero/ZX series with the guitar and synth being played here starting at 2:25 ( MMZ Mythos tracks specifically). That stood out to me and 80s-90s vibe too.
I can't praise your music abilities and raw talent enough man. Thank you for the shoutout and keep up the awesome work! You're the reason I've had to replay Mega Man X so many times. Every time I hear one of your reimagined versions of the music it transports me to my childhood. Keep on rockin mate!
This is my favorite game of all time. There is something powerful about the themes of this first game. Before focusing on X's role as the ancestor of all Reploids, it focused on his potential and growth. X starts off as a B class hunter, with Zero taking on the "senpai" role, trying to show X the ropes and help him throughout the game. When X has met up with Zero before heading to Sigma's fortress, X has grown much stronger, ready to fight, but he still lacks some resolve. This first stage represents X's personal transformation, the daunting task before him. X failed to stand up against Vile when Zero was able to save him in the first stage, but this time, X realizes that strength means very little if he cannot save those he cares about and it means more when his strength is combined for the same cause. Zero sacrifices himself to save X, but this time, because he trusts X to finish the job. X is a variable representing X's infinite potential. Not just for power but for personal growth. Upon finishing the task to defeat Vile, together with Zero's help, he takes on Zero's power to carry the will of his closest friend as well and stop Sigma, who is the anti-thesis to the use of power that X believes in. Day of Sigma delved into this theme as well as Sigma could not understand X's restraint, calling him "weak" for holding back or relying on others to save him or help him. X defeating Sigma with his combined power from Zero is cathartic to say the least.
This was a great surprise! I thought this'd just be a regular cover of Sigma 1, but every other piece of music played in the stage is also used and incorporated cohesively. I really liked the solo over the boss interlude theme too.
Big up on this piece Its a great homage to classical masterpiece These tones and sounds have been crest to my heart. they have always powered me up to be the best i can be in life thank you!
What an awesome unexpected Christmas gift!!! Another fantastic remix from the one of the best composers on the internet! Thank you for putting the time and dedication and attention to detail in these works of art. Although your Megaman X remixes are my favorite, all of your remixes are master quality. I especially enjoy your Power Rangers Ivan Ooze remix, keep up the great work!

Heard some notes that i am familar with from the Megaman Zero/ZX series with the guitar and synth being played here starting at 2:25 ( MMZ Mythos tracks specifically). That stood out to me and 80s-90s vibe too.
2:25 I don't hear what you mean. If then it was unintentional. I've been influenced by those soundtracks though so...
I can't praise your music abilities and raw talent enough man. Thank you for the shoutout and keep up the awesome work! You're the reason I've had to replay Mega Man X so many times. Every time I hear one of your reimagined versions of the music it transports me to my childhood. Keep on rockin mate!
I have goosebumps
This has always been one of my favorite Mega Man songs and you slayed it...awesome prog-rock style remix man!
This was a great surprise! I thought this'd just be a regular cover of Sigma 1, but every other piece of music played in the stage is also used and incorporated cohesively. I really liked the solo over the boss interlude theme too.
Awesome. Always happy to hear Megaman X covers from you
Big up on this piece Its a great homage to classical masterpiece These tones and sounds have been crest to my heart. they have always powered me up to be the best i can be in life thank you!
Beautifully done
Ahhh merry Christmas to all with a long awaited metaltool remix 🤙🏽 I love sigma stage one! That cover art is amazing!!
Man the compilation's great and all but I could listen to a separate version of that Zero theme forever. It's so good.
Omg one of the best covers I’ve heard - so perfectly captures the feels from the first Sigma stage!
Sheesh this is everything and more. 🔥
Great song. Back from when Sigma was considered a serious threat, the greatest of the Maverick Hunters turned rogue.
You nailed this more than perfect. And that ending is so insane. Straight talent
