You can open it and it won't let any air in, unless you press the brake pedal and let off without having a drain tube submerged in fluid. Opening the bleeder screw is like covering the end of a straw and taking it out of a drink. A drop or two might come out, but it will be very slow. Open the bleeder, activate the pump, and let it do its thing.

Did you open the bleeder screw at the left front and pump continously like it said? Curious because wouldn't that let air back in the lines
