Also, remember that these are live performances during extensive tours. Any stage actor/singer will tell you that vocal problems are super common and something that has to be dealt with all the time. People have to adjust for what their voice can do on any given night when touring. That might mean going lower, higher (head voice) or softer in volume. Ask any local theatre actor and you'll find that Paul's situation happens to actors multiple times per month. Paul's staying power is rare.
This is an excellent documentation of Paul's vocal struggles over the last few years. He has simply given all he has. Unlike some "legendary" bands who come out for a few shows every 5 or 10 years, Kiss has constantly toured the world with very few breaks. After thousands of concerts, it will be Pauls voice that ends Kiss, not that he is past 60. His "one live kiss" tour may have represented his vocal best. He pushes on, but not for much longer. Better see the MONSTER tour, cause that may be it
I play Paul in a KISS tribute band and the man is my absolute hero. I can testify to how hard on your voice it can be to sing a lot of the songs 2 days in a row. I couldn't imagine 40 years of it. Even at his worst, Paul Stanley is STILL the greatest Rock n Roll front man of all time.
Aww, I feel the same way about him! Thank you for reminding people how truly difficult it is to perform like that, night after night. We should just feel blessed that he's still getting up on that stage and giving us all he's got!
The way he sings no wonder his voice has taken a beating over the years. His voice is pretty much destroyed these days but he still is able to pull off a solid performance despite the limitations.
Theres NO WAY! Paul CANT cut it live anymore not even on the Leterman show and that's a small setting! Its OVER and has been over for a LONG time. Please Do NOT sugarcoat, the guy cant sing anymore at ALL, that voice is so fried that its embarrassing. He needs to STOP, hell even Julie Andrews knew when to STOP! She had the same surgery that Paul had and STOPPED altogether because she knew that she could NO LONGER do it. With Paul its all about the money!!!!
Jimmy Stinky Well, if he wants to keep going he might want to consider not attempting to sing so high anymore. I am not making excuses for him at all. He just needs to realize that he cannot sing that high anymore.
Jimmy Stinky Well Mr. Stinky, can I call you Stinky? Fans love Paul Stanley and don't really care if he can sing or not. Brian Johnson of AC/DC's voice was shot after For Those About.... and nobody cared. At this point, its about celebrating the music, getting together with other fans and a reason to go out and have a few drinks, sing a few songs and have a good time. As for him being, "..all about the money." guess what, EVERYONE is that way, Gene and Paul are just honest about it. Kiss for life!
***** ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND? Have you heard Paul in the last 2 tours? He CAN'T cut it live anymore....but yet he complains about Ace and Peter???? Dude, sorry but get off the stage and pack it up, youre done! KISS today is a giant JOKE,a parody and sad to see in makeup pretending to be what they one were. I guess DE NIAL ain't just a river in Egypt?
Very fortunate to have seen them from the early 80's until present (2014 at least). Sad to see them age....but then, haven't we all? I remember the energy, the buzz (the women) and leaving me their shows exhausted (from singing along and dancing along)...doing hundreds of shows year in and year out has taken it toll on them ...but hey, ask every one of them, and i'm sure they would do it all over again. I love KISS, their music helped me thru some shit times and I pay it forward by watching my early teen kids enjoy the KISS phenomenon too. Rock on!
We should all be glad the lead singer of our favorite band has been singing his ass off for nearly 40 years and still gives 100% in each and every performance at the age of 60. VERY few bands can state that they have been around for 40 years. Let's just celebrate.
I'm a rock singer but I'm also an opera singer. Most rock singers end up losing their top notes by the time they're 30! Paul is very lucky to still be able to sing as well as he does. Paul is the reason I started singing in the first place and I'm a woman! I love his voice. Even when he doesn't sound his best he still manages to pull it off. Have you ever heard any of the songs from when he did "Phantom Of The Opera" in 2000? He was really great!
I really loved him in Phantom. Though Paul didn't sound as good as he once did on the now infamous End of the Road tour, but even with bringing the songs down an octave or two, he kept a very solid performance
People have to realize, Paul did something for himself but may have hurt him down the road. He is still of my favorite singers. 50 yrs means something to me, it should for others as well
The reason ppl were so pissed is the fact that his voice was shot and they shouldn’t have toured in the first place. They should’ve given the time to heal and tour less. Tickets were still expensive af.
Wow, amazing clip and observations. I hope Paul does a book like Ace and Peter because I need to hear the next version of what Gene is like. Whats truly amazing about Paul is he's stuck by Gene for so long...that alone would destroy your voice. Paul is up there as one of the great front men of rock, possibly Freddy Mercury is the top position. This video is what youtube is all about, not forced by google crap K pop by PSY
love this guy🥹 one of my first memory of music in general, and i can assure you im very far from classic rock now but kiss, paul’s voice, will always be with me
I totally agree with your assessment. One sure sign of good vocal technique is vibrato. On the 1977 and 1979 videos, Paul has great balls of vibrato and he can hold notes evenly throughout his range. As the years roll on, the voice sounds thinner, the vibrato is seriously diminished and he has trouble holding even mid-range notes. If he had any training, it was to preserve what was left of his voice not to enhance it.
Till roughly 2008 pauls voice was great! You can hear it starting to struggle a bit starting even in 2006.. but still sounding great.. in 2010 though its a bit shot... Think about it 35 years at that point touring constantly! Its going to happen!
I'm 25 n love paul Stanley & huge fan of Kiss Love gun is one my all time favorite songs right there next to I was made for loving you baby & Detirot rock city.
You did a FANTASTIC JOB of chronicaling the trend in Paul's voice. I've seen them many times and I decided last time was my last. Paul has given it all for his fans and his trade. I give him credit for even being able to do what he does but he pushed it too hard for too many years. On the other hand, look at Mick Jagger - sounds the same! That would be another great video! Thanks again for the great work and something is wrong when Kiss isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
Interesting to watch - thanks for posting! What you have to remember though is how the voice changes week to week and night to night. The rehearsal clip for example - he probably wasn't warmed up, had been off tour for a bit, or maybe it was time-of-day, maybe he was dehydrated - a number of factors can make notes harder/easier to sing. And that goes for the live performances too. Sometimes after singing 3 gigs in a row, your voice can be stellar on the next gig - no warm-up, just right where you want it. Other times, that fourth gig without a night off, your voice could feel wiped out. Different sounds on different stages make for different monitor settings - he may have to push more to hear it the way he wants in some scenarios, and pushing will definitely tire the voice. Anyway, I love KISS and have always liked Paul Stanley's voice. And we have to remember these guys are in their sixties! Gotta commend them for having this much energy and enthusiasm. Whether it's Steven Tyler who is still hitting every note beautifully, or Robert Plant who cannot get close to where he used to sing in his twenties ... these guys are still doing it. I didn't get to see them in their heyday, I'm glad I've gotten to see them all before they are gone forever. Our kids will never get the chance. Great video :)
Great video! I saw them last night in Halifax and what Paul and the boys may have given up vocally due to age and wear and tear, they make up for in an awesome show. I don't think ANY band has ever or will ever work harder for their fans. Thanks.
Wicked awesome. Clearly the 80's Paul showcased his voice the strongest and at its' best. Also, the higher tuning made the song sound more full and "alive", if you will. Anyway you slice it, Paul rocks the house!
for someone who hadn't stop singing since 1972, he sure have an AWESOME voide nowdays, hearing him back in the day must have been the greatest thing, Paul Stanley is ABSOLUTELY one of the best 5 frontmen in rock history
Best showman in RnR history, of course his voice got damaged as the years went by!At the beginning he was just a kid without any vocal technique just screaming things he believed in in his mic, and the power he had made Kiss's success! I saw them recently on their 40 years anniversary tour, of course he's not reaching the highest notes, but he's doing a fucking showman job that you don't even pay attention to what he can't sing anymore. As a musician, and as a fan, i have to say : Respect.
+Théo Cortin I kinda like his hoarse, rough and deep voice. That's the type of voice suited for rock n roll and hard rock. You don't really like to hear a smooth voiced singer on stage for these type of songs.
Nice job, Rodrigo B. Great video...and I agree with you on all points. Nobody can deny that Paul has been and is now one of Rock's greatest and most recognizable voices.
Last week, I did an audition as lead singer for a KISS style rockband. I sang Love Gun for the first time. Well let me tell you, this song is NOT easy. And that's when you realize that Paul Stanley indeed has a very unique voice.
Great video, done with obvious vocal knowledge, and much love and respect for Paul and his voice, which never got it's due credit as far as I'm concerned. I commend you on this work Rodrigo, it's a very special thing, and highly appreciated by this lifelong KISS fan.
Wow great video compilation. I noticed Paul's voice sounded really bad when KISS performed on the American Idol season 13 finale. But he still gets out there & rocks. One of the all-time best!
This is a very nice video! I think he would like to watch it hehehe Paul is one of my heroes. I'm 30 and i'm going to watch my second KISS show on sunday. I always says that i'm very lucky to be able to see them live. When they began their carrer, my parents were younger than me now. The first time they came to my country I was 3 years old. I started to listen to their music when I was 12. And KISS is still rocking until today. Crossing generations. This is truly amazing!
The voice sounds the same to me all the way up to 1996, then I could hear it change. I do agree that he's lost a lot, but I still think of him as the best front man ever! I've been a KISS fan since 1977, and I'll be one until I die.
I'm glad to see someone made a time line of paul stanley's voice. I have noticed for the last few years his voice was going out. I seen paul on his solo tour and got to go in for sound check. He sounded great. you cant hide in an empty club with 15 of us watching. But what everybody is missing is his hip surgerys. the first one his voice was still ok,then they had to go back in, and that tube they put down your throat is what I think damaged his voice forever. let me know if i'm wrong.....
His voice has severely diminished, but a variable not considered is when each of these videos was recorded. When you start out on tour, you're pretty fresh. After 20, 30 shows and a number of back-to-backs you're going to start hearing some hoarseness. I think they tour entirely too much for a band of their age, not only too many shows but not long enough breaks in between tours. It's clear Paul gives his all despite his issues (I'm sure nobody is more frustrated about it than he is) and wants the fans to get to see them, but at this point there's nothing wrong with taking a few years off and then deciding if you want to do it anymore (and at 60+, they might not). I am grateful I got to see them during the Farewell Tour (which was amazing) and don't think they ought to retire because stubborn fans think so (they will always find fault because they have shortcomings in their own lives they'd rather not think about) but watching Paul struggle through some songs is kinda gut wrenching for this fan. They've done what they can to make up for Paul's struggles (like doing co-headlining tours so they don't have to be on stage so much, having Singer take more of the high parts, playing more Gene-lead songs, etc) but at this point it's obvious he can't go on like that much longer. Sad to see :(
Dave Rogers I agree pretty much on every point you make. I love Paul. He had an amazing run. His voice got better and better and better. Things change after 50. I feel very sad for him....but I'm glad he still does it in a way because he does give it his all. ALWAYS. And that's saying a lot. If you can accept that when you go to see KISS, it's not going to sound as if it were 1979 or 1989, you'll be okay. KISS fans are great and loyal. Some others should be more understanding to this situation. It happens to everyone. Robert Plant had less than a decade to sound like he did on "Rock and Roll" in the studio. Geddy Lee was struggling to sing things like Anthem and even Closer To The Heart by 1981. It's tough when you're a screamer. You can't go on doing that forever even if you wanted to. Paul is lucky he had so many good years. He had damn near 25 great years singing really well. I'll always love Kiss regardless!!!!!
Exactly. Those are great examples and ones I think of when thinking about great singers who are now older and not what they used to be. Roger Daltrey is another who can't belt out the classics like he could when he was in his 20s and 30s. I just saw Paul McCartney perform on SNL 40 and you can hear his voice is almost done even though he was never really a powerful singer. Age takes away their singing voice just like it takes away a guitarist's feel for the strings at some point. It sucks for them and the fans, but you gotta appreciate what they did over their career. Paul had one of the most powerful voices in the industry for 20, 25 years ... his spot in the RnR HoF is well deserved.
I'm in a band named Schtillrokken. (that's fake German for "Still Rockin'") Anyone here who is criticizing Paul Stanley and his voice is only embarrassing themselves. Kiss didn't detune or go to drop D and Paul did his very best to hit every note. He also danced around and is one of the greatest front men America has ever produced. Sad that you would take the time to slay one of the greatest ever. Paul, if you read this... pay no attention to this hate. We love you and you are Schtillrokken!
undoubtedly, during the unmasked era, paul reached his top vocal performance! thanks for all the trouble in order to get this cool analysis done, man! cheers from brazil!
A very nice compilation and observation on your comments. Good job Rodrigo. I too have noticed the straining of the voice over the years at the shows, and the first time I saw/heard Eric singing the high notes, it verified it for me. I thought the last few tours, that Love Gun was tuned down as well.
His voice was great for so many years even up to 2010.Just saw the show in 2012 and Gene sings more songs in the set and Pauls songs are carefully chosen now.I'm glad to see the 2012 tour nearly over and I hope something can be done if he continues. He said he never wanted to be on stage and have people say"remember when they were good".I think were there.
This is really interesting! And it made me cry... I love KISS more than my own life! I'm almost 20 now, and this band is too much important to me... I mean, I'm not deaf and most people like me can notice clearly that Paul's voice is not the same anymore. BUT he's been pushing his voice to the limits year after year JUST BECAUSE OF THE FANS! That's why I LOVE THIS BAND SO MUCH! People use to forget he's just a Human being like all of us, but HE IS OUR HERO! The Starchild will live FOREVER!
Yeah. Paul's voice has taken a hit.God DAMN he has only been belting it out TWICE as long as Elvis Presley HAD A CAREER!!!!!I don't care. For MY money he WAS and IS the best fucking frontman, singer, songwriter of MY generation. I flat ass think Paul Stanley is the bomb!! I've met him 2 times. Been NOTHING but nice each time!!! Simply LOVE the dude.
dont forget his deafness on his left side in this autobiography he says on some show he sing so loud because he couldnt sens some sounds so with age and time and no warm up he he broke his voice at over time
I love paul stanley. I was them in concert this year and sings just as good as he does right here. I am now a great guitarist because of kiss and will always love them!
Agree w/ you assessment; he reached his vocal prime around the 1984 Animalize tour, which put him at 32 years old - makes sense. Regarding that stage - I always wondered where the Backline cabinets and stage vocal monitors were. If I recall correctly, the PA on that tour was overhanging, clearing the stage view for those audience members facing them side-ways. Perhaps they also had some overhanging Side Fills as well, facing down towards them but otherwise the stage seemed bare of gear. Anybody?
This is true. Not saying the video is entirely inaccurate, but if one performance was taken from the beginning of a tour and another at the end, it makes a big difference.
I saw them in July of 1977 when I was 13 yrs old. The first concert I ever saw, and was completely blown away, what a show !! I`m glad I had a chance to see them in their prime . I saw them again in 2000 , but nothing compaired to the 1977 show ...
We saw them just a few months ago in Denver with Def Leppard and they sounded great (so did DL)! I'm in my early fifties so I grew up with these guys and am fully aware of how they sounded then versus now, but they still sound great and put on a show that everyone should see at least once. Why people want to put them down because they don't sing like they did in their twenties is just petty and pathetic.
WOW my fav video on youtube! thank you for this! i have been saying these things forever! I love his voice and i always thought he had training in the 80s, My vocal coach says you always need training cuz you may develop bad habits if you dont. Killer video! i have been looking for a teacher that can teach me his voice.
This just makes me miss 80s KISS all the more. Back when the shows had some ENERGY! Nobody in the audience looking at a little square in their hands, standing there staring at screens. Best Paul vocal performance in my opinion was at Castle Donnington UK 1988, check out songs like "Strutter" and "Detroit Rock City", amazing. He never sang like that again. Cheers, thanks for posting this! Good work...
I love KISS. Always have and always will. I think Paul sounded his best during the mid 80's early 90's. It's sad (as a KISS fan) to hear his voice go through so much strain but it's cool that he's still rockin on stage giving it all he's got (even if it's not what it use to be).
yea his voice may be shot but they still sell out big arenas and stadiums. not many bands from the 70's are even around let alone touring. He's one of the best front men in rock and roll and sung his heart out to countless fans. Surgery might not have done much but getting surgery like that so you can continue to play is dedication
I saw them with motley crue as well. It was sold out. Had to buy tickets immediately. Also just saw the with Def Leppard and had trouble getting tickets as well because they were gonna quick. Yea some people go just to see the opening act, but when KISS comes on the place goes nuts and lights up like no other concert. They have the best stage show and appearance than any other band in the world. It's like watching a cartoon on stage. It's unreal.
The point is that kiss can't go out on their own anymore which is why they have to co headline nowadays, my dad even told me when we went to the show "if I was going by myself I would've left after motley played their set" and I remember people being more enthusiastic when motley crue were playing and also I saw them in Australia and kiss have always been huge in Australia (just watch kissolagy 2 for proof) and lets be honest Paul should either rest his voice for a year or two in the hopes that it gets better or retire and hire some scab to play the starchild like they did with Peter and Ace.
the peter and ace thing is done. Tommy and Eric are like peter and ace in their hay day. That is their job. Doc, Paul and Gene hired them. If they were to change their makeup just for them it would be like KISS is starting over. KISS is those four iconic figures.Ace sold his rights to KISS for that makeup anyway and so did Peter. Ace and peter cannot do it anymore. They are too slow and can't keep up anymore. Don't get me wrong, i love peter and ace. Peter is one of my favorite drummers ever and Ace is just ace. He's awesome. I actually just saw him play a few weeks ago. He still kicks ass but KISS is way too demanding for him to keep up. Did you see the reunion tour? Ace and peter were messing up left and right. Doc was yelling to Paul from stage side that they sounded like crap. They sound nice and crisp now. Tommy plays exactly like Ace but much cleaner. And Eric has much more bang and kick to his drums. Stage shows are getting better every tour and the KISS Army is getting bigger and bigger. All of the fans from when they started now have kids who are fans. Whole families go to see them. They could sell out shows easily by themselves or with someone. The warm up bands that play before the shows even start actually pay to go on tour just to get their name out because they know there is gonna be several thousand people there.
Correction Peter lost it due to contractual bullshit and ace is working on getting it back and to say tommy and Eric are like Ace and Peter in their hay day is just stupid and something people forget is that Ace and Peter were never perfect players even the 70s, Ace used to wear rings when he played and you could hear the rings hitting the strings as he played and have you ever heard the solo to dark light? Ace probley couldnt play that solo again in his life because thats what kind of guitarist he was he was "sloppy" but in a good way tommy on the other hand sounds like a guitar teacher he plays aces solos too perfectly and he doesnt even come close to Ace. Peter came from jazz and he never really had a rock and roll way to play the drums Peter had a groove in the 70s that can't be recreated Eric on the other hand is like a robot (even though I really like his drumming on revenge and carnival of souls) when it comes to drums he may as well be a drum machine, when it comes to the reunion in my opinion Ace sounded great Peter not so much but he sounded good enough and don't even get me started on that stubby, fat fuck doc McGee its only when the farewell tour started Ace wasn't playing very good and Peter was even worse but I do agree that the new band is much tighter but what does that matter with Paul's shot I'm the sorta guy that the main thing I notice in a song is the vocals, I don't care how good the drums, guitar and bass is if the singers vocals blow it doesn't matter it ruins the whole band and you know what I'll take fare well tour kiss any day over seeing modern kiss.
It's something beyond... I LOVE ACE! And I respect Tommy A LOT! That's how I see it: Tommy was a fan just like me. He just loves what he does, and he has the chance to keep the dream alive! I doubt a true KISS fan would say no to Paul and Gene! People are stupid, this band Rocks, forever!
Thank you so much, pal! I really appreciate what you've said. It's really important to me, sincerely. I've done this video for fans like you! Keep rockin'
It's nice to see insight and critique from an unbiased Kiss fan. Generally too much bias, either positive or negative, from the Kiss crowd. Great video.
Paul Stanley & Freddie Mercury are my vocal idols, an inspiration as musicians and performers! Maybe we will never know how Mercury's voice could have been in the age of 60, but Paul in his age still rocks every stage around the world !!!!!
Dude this is an awesome video. I ve been a kiss fan since i was 5 or 6 yrs old. unfortunately, father time will catch up to us all. Not to mention the touring and the lifestyle. I can personally testify that It ultimately takes a physical, mental, and spiritual toll on you. Long live the recorded performances, as it is how we remember great musicians and vocalist of all time in any genre of music.
Really cool to see how his voice changed when in it's actually in a timeline. I saw them in july 2011, and when your 10 ft in front of paul singing live, it really doesn't matter! Kicks ass!
Very interesting vid - thanks. It's important to remember that his voice will be greatly affected by whether it's the beginning of the tour or the end when his voice will be much more tired. Also whether he sang a concert the day before vs. having a few days of rest. Also, how much drinking/smoking/drugs he was doing at the time. There are a lot of factors that determine how he sounds on any given day--doesn't mean his voice is evolving any particular way in the long term though.
I've always thought that paul's voice really got great at about the time of the Crazy Nights record, and particularly on the song "Fight hell to hold you." Still, not sure why they tuned back up. But he really sounds great around that early 80's stuff. Also, it pains me to hear how bad the band sounded in 79 on the Dynasty tour.
People nowadays are practically brainwashed to thinking EVERYTING 80'S SUCKS, when in reality the 80's was pretty much the climax of everything good (including Paul Stanley's voice)
I have no doubt that Paul's voice has suffered over the years. But don't let that steer you away. KISS won't be around much longer and still puts on a good show so get out and enjoy them while you can.
Yes, you are right. The period between the end of the Farewell Tour and Alive IV! was extremely demanding on Paul's voice. Shortly after, he embarked on his Live to Win gig, which pushed even harder his voice, particularly on deep-cut songs from Lick It Up, Dynasty, Hot in the Shade, and his '78 solo album. Concomitantly, KISS went on a world tour again (Rising Sun and Rock the Nation tours). From then on, his voice began to show clear signs of fatigue and failure, which naturally should have been respected for better vocal preservation. Another issue was after his vocal surgery in 2011-12 when Paul clearly did not allow enough time for plain recovery (see KISS Kruise I and Monster recording/premier sessions). Despite some improvements in his voice back then, he pushed beyond what would be allowed for post-surgery, leaving his voice permanently muffled/horsey in the upper register.
One thing I've noticed that Paul has done is systematically taken the line "Girl I can make you feel ok" to "Whoa I can make you feel ok". Lol. Cool video!
As we grow-up, the vocal chords tend to get thicker, without knowing Paul took his voice to its peak during the 90's, but it started to 'decay' thanks to that natural reason. If I was Paul, I could of tried to stay on the guitar standard tune, since the 90's. And then start to low the guitar tune 1/2 tone or a full tone down after lets say...'96-'97. Sadly now, it's a little bit late, but he sure gave it all through 40 years, almost. Great time-line!!! well done!!
Indeed he stil rocks after mistreating his voice 40 years and on. (In his sixties now) Kiss gives everything on stage to entertain the crowd. Still love to watch them on tour, a lot of youg acts can learn how to please a crowd from Kiss.
He was amazing. His rocking news year eve was the only show i ever watched. It was sad the last few years to see what had happen to him but he kept going.
You did a great job & it's funny, very little of what you showed, i didn't know about. I honestly never knew he had vocal surgery because the progression of his voice being hurt was on-going. I am proud of him, but seriously think he should have another operation & then take a year, possibly two off & let his voice get strong again naturally.
Great to see the '88 video of Paul using what appears to be a Steinberger guitar. That thing sounds fantastic and has Killer sustain.Hop some more of this video surfaces in the upcoming Kissology 4 dvd (whenever they decide to put it out...It's only 3 months overdue from the first release date the band posted!).
These guys have toured more than any other band in the history of music sometimes it was 230 days a year if not more this guy has more hours on his voice than any history of female or male singer think about that Paul Stanley is the all-time champ of touring hours on his voice that should be in the Guinness book of world records so the guy lost his voice now about 75 I'll still watch him he's the king
I appreciate so much your commentary. It's nice to see that finally someone have gotten the real point of this video! Soon as possible, I'll do Gene's voice timeline. Thanks for watching.
Better see the MONSTER tour, cause that may be it
Paul your true voice is the one that always comes from the heart , that's the voice that matters to your fans , great big Paul.
I have a band of rock and I sing like Paul and it is tired
Aww, I feel the same way about him! Thank you for reminding people how truly difficult it is to perform like that, night after night. We should just feel blessed that he's still getting up on that stage and giving us all he's got!
Bad ass man !
Jimmy Stinky
Well, if he wants to keep going he might want to consider not attempting to sing so high anymore. I am not making excuses for him at all. He just needs to realize that he cannot sing that high anymore.
Jimmy Stinky
Well Mr.
Try Rammstein 😂
alex
My hero! I absolutely adore Paul in every way, including as a person!❤❤
love this guy🥹
one of my first memory of music in general, and i can assure you im very far from classic rock now
but kiss, paul’s voice, will always be with me
I totally agree with your assessment.
Its going to happen!
im sorry i will never bash a singer who has been performing 40 plus and still rocking for the fans
Paul Stanley is the best of the best.
Théo Cortin That's it! I agree 100% with you.
The best frontman ever..We love you Paul..
Last week, I did an audition as lead singer for a KISS style rockband. I sang Love Gun for the first time. Well let me tell you, this song is NOT easy. And that's when you realize that Paul Stanley indeed has a very unique voice.
Thanks for the years , im 55 now and was in 3rd grade when I discovered KISS , the rest is KISSTORY
Paul sounded AMAZING on the Farewell tour! :)
I saw them last summer...they still rock
Great video, done with obvious vocal knowledge, and much love and respect for Paul and his voice, which never got it's due credit as far as I'm concerned. I commend you on this work Rodrigo, it's a very special thing, and highly appreciated by this lifelong KISS fan.
Fantastic under-appreciated front man. He wrote the book on how to excite an audience.
I only have the highest regards and respect for Paul Stanley......
Paul Stanley Rocks!!!!
undoubtedly, during the unmasked era, paul reached his top vocal performance! thanks for all the trouble in order to get this cool analysis done, man! cheers from brazil!
Paul has had an awsome voice, age is a bitch . Hes still awsome and good old Genie keeps on growling right along with him. Long Live KISS
i have seen them in Leipzig this year (2015) and Paul did AMAZING! He sounded great!
love the video analysis, so true, we love Paul for being true to his fans, KISSARMY forever!!!
A very nice compilation and observation on your comments. Good job Rodrigo. I too have noticed the straining of the voice over the years at the shows, and the first time I saw/heard Eric singing the high notes, it verified it for me. I thought the last few tours, that Love Gun was tuned down as well.
Love this song and especially Paul
His voice was great for so many years even up to 2010.Just saw the show in 2012 and Gene sings more songs in the set and Pauls songs are carefully chosen now.I'm glad to see the 2012 tour nearly over and I hope something can be done if he continues. He said he never wanted to be on stage and have people say"remember when they were good".I think were there.
Contradicted himself a tad there didn't he?
This is really interesting! And it made me cry... I love KISS more than my own life! I'm almost 20 now, and this band is too much important to me... I mean, I'm not deaf and most people like me can notice clearly that Paul's voice is not the same anymore. BUT he's been pushing his voice to the limits year after year JUST BECAUSE OF THE FANS! That's why I LOVE THIS BAND SO MUCH! People use to forget he's just a Human being like all of us, but HE IS OUR HERO! The Starchild will live FOREVER!
Paul Stanley's voice and songs is KISS. One of the best rock singers ever. Beautiful voice¡¡
Love you Paul
dont forget his deafness on his left side in this autobiography he says on some show he sing so loud because he couldnt sens some sounds so with age and time and no warm up he he broke his voice at over time
Great point!
I love paul stanley. I was them in concert this year and sings just as good as he does right here. I am now a great guitarist because of kiss and will always love them!
Paul Stanley will always be the greatest voice of Rock n Roll ...
Years pass to all mortals, but who said that Paul Stanley is a mere mortal?!
I've always loved Paul and I will always love him! He is a great guy! Gives all his best no matter what and has done it for 40 years now!
Thanks great video and decent comments.
+Michael Gibs Thank you so much!
It's very hard to age gracefully in a Rock band.
+EgyptianMinor unless you are Billy Gibbons
Or Sammy Hagar.
+EgyptianMinor or Roger Daltrey, he screams like he is still in his 20's
In "going back home" with wilko he is totally out of tune in most songs.
They can't sell out arenas anymore that's why they have to co headline and when I saw them with motley crue the place was 3/4 full
ONCE MY HERO, ALWAYS MY HERO. Rocky: Live To Win
Maybe we will never know how Mercury's voice could have been in the age of 60, but Paul in his age still rocks every stage around the world !!!!!
little appreciated by the music press. powerful voice, warm, shade high...it deserves much more appreciation.....my opinion.
Great video man, I really really dug it! Although if I never hear Love Gun again it'll be too soon lol. Poor Paul, but that's what happens I guess.
Paul stanley is perfect I don't care what you other guys think
paul fuckin rocks
Very good observation here. Noted with changes of guitar tuning throughout the years. Nice work!
People nowadays are practically brainwashed to thinking EVERYTING 80'S SUCKS, when in reality the 80's was pretty much the climax of everything good (including Paul Stanley's voice)
Amazing!!!!!! GOD
Paul's voice may be deteriorating but love knows no bounds
One of the top 5 comments I have read on here. Props
Cool job and you obviously love the band. #KISS
I have no doubt that Paul's voice has suffered over the years. But don't let that steer you away. KISS won't be around much longer and still puts on a good show so get out and enjoy them while you can.
Didn`t know they were unmasked this long! But great video :)
Sounded like his voice started to go in 2006.
Really cool time line video, dude. Really cool. Very positive too. I'd like to see the same thing with another Paul: McCartney.
One thing I've noticed that Paul has done is systematically taken the line "Girl I can make you feel ok" to "Whoa I can make you feel ok". Lol. Cool video!
From 1996 it goes straight into 2004 - 8 years have passed, and now it's already post farewell tour, w/ the Ersatz Kiss firmly in place.
Great time-line!!! well done!!
In 2003 they played with the symphony. There he sounded amazing. I think the stress of touring gets to him.
Indeed he stil rocks after mistreating his voice 40 years and on. (In his sixties now)
Kiss gives everything on stage to entertain the crowd.
The best documentary on youtube :))
You´re video is amazing, my friend, amazing.
Paul's deeper singing voice is good.
Wow!! Thank you so much, man!! I'm really glad.
I appreciate so much your commentary. It's nice to see that finally someone have gotten the real point of this video! Soon as possible, I'll do Gene's voice timeline. Thanks for watching.
