  • Hello Everyone, my latest railway adventure has taken me to the coastal town of Millom in the south-western corner of Cumbria. The railway station is one of the most used on the Cumbrian Coast line which connects Carlisle with Barrow-in-Furness. As well as exploring the station I also visited the historic market square to witness at first hand the impact that ironworks have had on the town. In the video I also briefly explore the Castle ruins, the RSPB Nature Reserve at Hodbarrow (which was formerly the site of the towns ironworks), along with St George’s Church. Back at the railway station I took the opportunity of visiting the Heritage and Arts Centre on Platform 1. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023, the Centre has evolved into a flourishing hub at the heart of the community. The unique artefacts and collections are housed in themed rooms with each area reflecting the historic connections with the town and its neighbouring communities. The railways have played a huge role in the development of Millom and the impressive model railway display transported me back to my childhood with memories of my Hornby train sets - unforgettable!. The Heritage Centre has its own website and Facebook Pages and I would wholeheartedly recommend a visit. Thank you for watching the video which I hope you enjoy.

In 1951 I was a 'forces child' living in Barrow, my father working at RAF Millom. Via Google Earth I have already discovered that much of the railway system has tragically disappeared, so this video was a delight to watch, and most fascinating. Thankyou. I think I'll sub.

Thank you for your very kind review Tony. I have a friend who did his national service at RAF Millom so the display at the museum was especially interesting. The Cumbrian Coast Railway that runs between Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness is an absolute gem and you will find a number of other videos on my YT Channel featuring stations from up and down this line. Thanks again and Best Wishes.
