Honestly, way back a year ago in March, when LBY first announced, I think it would have been better if there had been no early release date announced. They could have opened up a conversation with prospective customers, showed that they were interested in feedback from the lovers of lifesim games, and started creating community engagement, all without the added pressure of a specific deadline to get it all ready and released by. Early access didn't use to be a thing, and honestly, there is no reason it has to be so now. But continually pushing back release dates for early access just ends up killing the interest people have shown. All of the excitement and hype which was boosting them when they first announced is dying off with every delay, and at this point they may have to start from scratch whenever the game does release. It makes me sad, because I think LBY has a lot of potential and I really want to see it succeed.

I think its notable this time we did not get a Rod Humble announcement, Publisher Paradox put on the breaks and posted the delay. I really think this game is at risk of being shelved. And while I do like developers getting a realistic timeframe to develop their games, this game has been circling the same problems during all three delays making me think the current team they have has no idea HOW to solve those problems no matter how much time they get. If LBY ever does drop, I will maybe check it out. But I’ve given up on waiting with baited breath for it to arrive.
I think at this point they are also facing more competition in Paralives and InZoi than they expected thinking as long as their “feature list” made them more appealing than the Sims 4 it would be an easy win just to have things like an open world and cars. But both Paralives and InZoi will have those things as well.

I'm actually way more excited and looking forward to InZoi while I'm disappointed that Life by You has been delayed until further notice. I've been waiting for something better, more fun and realistic than the Sims. Of course I can't wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 either, get to play as Lucia and Jason the two main protagonists who gives me a modern Bonnie and Clyde vibe in more a realistic open world setting of Vice City. It seems like in away that InZoi and GTA 6 will compete each other with realism while one will be a sim game and another will be open world of a criminal duo. 😊

developers creating games to be a "modders paradise" always fall flat (gestures at bethesda's starfield) the systems are cool and all but i really don't see a majority of people or even modders really having any sort of interest in most of this stuff. sims players keep talking about "storytelling" but never expanding on what they mean by that and it leads to developers completely misunderstand. we just want a regular life sim with a good and fun foundation, not sims life stories

Whatever happened to beta testing? Is that not a thing anymore? So many games are being released in "early access" and the customers have to basically pay to test a product. I appreciate LBY's passion, but they need to hold off early access indefinitely because they keep shooting themselves in the foot. Given the current state of The Sims 4, I think people are getting really impatient and eager to play another life sim ASAP so that's probably contributing to the negative feedback. Of course, anything good is worth waiting for and I hope they can do what they need to do to improve the game.

@@junerussell6972 I think people forget TS3 even had some limitations on launch. Like restaurants that were click to interact. Your sims went in them, but you did not follow. You got to make choices for them while inside. Later live restaurants were added. And this was smart. Having some buildings be click to interact allowed the world to exist “open” without having to deaign activity loops and interiors for every building on the map at the start. That way they got to get there open world started at a reasonable pace and used the DLC to expand/enhance the possibilities. And they were beeefy DLC well worth the price. LBY was trying to be all Sims 3 was at the end out the gate plus more and I firmly believe they took too much on all at once. I would have been happy to buy clothes at a click to interact building where the character went in, I didn’t follow, and I got popup choices or jumped into shopping selection screen. This would still have been better than Sims 4.

They don't want any "rabbit holes" either because they want it completely open in every way. But they also want all the advantages of TS4 at the same time. With each DLC, they say "This should have been in the game since the very beginning. It should never have been a DLC." It doesn't seem to matter if it's weather, pets, restaurants, hotels, occults, or anything else, too many people seem to think it should have been there from the beginning. It makes me worry that the games want to include everything "at the beginning" and won't be able to do it as well as if they had added things through DLCs.

I think their biggest mistake was going public so early in development, when it's obvious that there's still much work to be done. That aside, I'm not surprised there's yet another delay. Consider the front end of the game; the stuff people will be seeing. For a life sim game, it simply doesn't look good. 3D doesn't exactly have a "make pretty" button. It takes a lot of time and effort to make something appealing. I said this in the comments of one of their videos, but this is something I want to emphasize: Life sim games center around characters. It's because of this that character appeal and believability (regardless of visual style) need to be a priority. I would say it's mechanics > visual appeal > everything else.

I was so sure it wouldn't delay this time since it's super close to the expected early access date. Since there is no Rod Humble announcement and it's a few days after the updated minimum specs, I believe it's definitely in reaction to that. And if I'm right, this means optimization is their current focus (but I still hope they'll do something on the visual because visually speaking, their identity is the "ugly upcoming life sim").
From a PR point of view, I believe every editor should learn from indie games like Paralives: small game that needed funding, keeps having the hype around it, stays vague on when it will release but its fanbase is consistent. What LBY did is the nightmare scenario: multiple delays and possible risk of being shelved, breaking trust with the editor at the same time.
I still have hope LBY will be released some day, but they really need to work on the marketing of the game and not just selling the devs' passion too. At this point LBY looks like a game editor or a tool more than a game I can open and play. They definitely lack a visual identity (for now it's just the "ugly upcoming ts4 competitor") and an identity in general. (Paralives did a lot of work on that, creating its own world with Para instead of Sim, Inzoi has Zoi.)
I'm also scared for that game because they're losing an advantage they had until now: becoming the FIRST competitor to The Sims on the market. Especially as it does not seem to be a easy to use game, LBY will feel competitive pressure that it does not feel as much yet. I have no doubt that there are a lot of people who won't bother trying LBY if Paralives is out before (money wise for their promise of no paid DLC and also because of the opposite aesthetics, I'm describing myself here).
Hopefully LBY will be released in a very solid state to be successful long term.

It reads as a matter where the studio themselves don’t have a solid grasp on things whether that is at the management level or development level. Keep it going too long and you fall into development hell where it becomes less and less likely the game will ever come out in decent shape even with all the time in the world. Not saying that is definitely the case here, they could still pull it off. But this kind of thing doesn’t inspire confidence.
It’s a good sign when a game company is willing to delay to ensure a solid product, it’s a bad sign when the company has to do that multiple times for the product to hopefully be good. Delays happen when something has gone wrong and the issues from that are bad enough to justify throwing off all sorts of internal and external schedules and plans. It’s not something to be done lightly just over some minor bugs. So how many times can things be that bad before you start questioning if there is some deeper issue behind the scenes. As said I do hope they get things sorted and can land the early access release but again, this isn’t inspiring confidence.

As soon as it’s out we will start seeing videos of people playing and reviewing and I feel that would damage the game’s future. We have a game in early access like Manor Lords that is looking amazing and it’s got such great push from the community for delivering more than anyone could expect, and that is what you want. And yes, things can improve on early access, but the look of the game is what it is. Paralives is also being developed and it looks amazing already. Even the playtest images we got from project rene look amazing! LBY has a lot of work to do if they want the game to be a success IMO.

I was fully in support of the previous delays but after the last one, I said any further delays would not look good. Those warning bells are now ringing loudly, even though it's better than releasing in a poor state. While it can show they care it also shows how far off they really were with the initial date. If management is that poor, it doesn't look good for the rest and how that's being managed. THIS is exactly why game companies should not announce even vague dates before they are 100% sure it will be met. It pretty much confirms to me that they have been too ambitious and it's been in the wrong areas.

Now, I'm not all that invested in LifeByYou, so I might be a bit more relaxed about this, but even if this was a game I was waiting anxiously for...it wouldn't really worry me all to much. It just means they're working on it some more. And, well, even if their characters look a bit better now...they still kind of have an "avatar that comes with a 3D posting program" vibe, especially the clothes. And their system requirements for 30FPS are *very* steep.
So if the delay means they might improve those two areas still, then it can be positive thing. I do think it will release, it's not a guaranty, but I feel they have gone a bit to heavy into marketing this game to cancel it without some very serious reasons.

I definitely understand that people want a new life sim game sooner rather than later, and I think the sort of buildup of anticipation for Paralives, Inzoi, Life By You, and Project Rene all collectively adds to that frustration. I know a lot of people who are just tired of Sims 4. (I myself am nearing that feeling, but I do still enjoy playing my game occasionally.) However, I also respect any time they push back to improve the quality of the game. I'd rather see them do that than push out and charge for an unfinished or unpolished or poor quality product. Many Sims 4 fans have had it up to here with that sort of thing, so I would hope that those same fans who want the quality would be willing to wait a bit longer for developers to ensure that quality is what the consumers are getting. I know most people are reasonable and willing to wait a bit, but the extremes of I'm so excited that I want it now or I'm tired of waiting so I'm giving up on this do feel a bit unreasonable to me. I don't agree with either of those sentiments, but I do understand it. I know it's disappointing to anticipate something that looks fun and then it's not ready in a timely manner. In my experience, really worthwhile things are usually worth waiting for.

Over 90% of software fails to be finished by its estimated deadline, I think that’s the statistic I was taught in Software Engineering. Personally, this is why game devs need to stop making estimated deadlines public. People can’t be happy and honestly, the public doesn’t know enough about Game Dev for it to be any of their business. Which is an unpopular stance, but idgaf because it’s the simple truth. Complain about shareholders and stock prices running games into the ground when the public is just that but on a larger scale.
What they’re probably delaying it for this time is the nightmarish scenario ahead of them which is having to redo the rigs and skeletons entirely, because these models are bad and need to be thrown out. It’s not unusual for games to focus on graphics as one of the last phases of development, but it is unusual to be so transparent.
They’re too transparent, they announce things too early, etc. Nobody is complaining about Fallout 5 because as far as anyone knows, it doesn’t exist (but is almost certainly in development and probably has been for half a decade), most people don’t complain about ES6 directly because while it’s in dev nobody knows where it’s at. Everyone complains constantly about the games that have been announced and in open development for years and years.
Basically, there’s a reason that most restaurants don’t allow you to watch the kitchen while food is being made, and while EA’s deliberate refusal to address concerns isn’t correct either, I think full transparency and early announcement of games hurts them a lot more than staying hush.

I think what they're trying to do with Early Access, why they even do it, is to generate hype. They want people to play it, for streamers and RUclipsrs to keep coming back, and thus they get a lot of free advertising for their game. But if all the gameplay the game has to offer is some boringly implemented gardening, crafting, collecting, and shopping, then it's just not enough to have fun with the game. Then you look at it for 2 hours and you're bored and disappointed because you've seen everything. And that's not what EA means. There are tons of EA games that either already offer a lot of fun or make you really look forward to more and you're eager for every new patch. Hype is the most important thing for Paradox. That's their business model. That's why they also work with mute influencers, whether it's here with LBY or CS2 or whatever. And it's obvious that the EA for a game without gameplay, with lousy graphics and bad design would not have a good marketing effect.

It was in the videos you watched tho
The man literally mentioned them building most things in-house and scanning textures and smaller items due to a tight deadline
Besides, they're a large company with a previous catalog of assets as well as experience in creating them
They also started development in 2022, when talk of Ai wasn't this feverish
If you're concerned, rewatch the videos, that's where most of my info is from anyway
It's not hard to make realistic textures and assets (including models and characters), especially if you have skilled staff
I just think in this day and age, peddling a group as Ai early adopters in a genre, where it is replacing and deeply affecting the industry, as well as in a community that cares so deeply on the issue, is dangerous especially because their rate of development isn't abnormal for an east Asian studio
It's not a full game. Even the play test they gave to influencers was a proof of concept. There were many placeholders, the 3d scans (you can tell cause they weren't whole objects) were glitchy due to modelers not having enough time to work on them
I just don't think it's right to continue to peddle misinformation that harms their reputation when that isn't the case
I understand inzoi is a foreign company but that is why you should take time to understand it, not immediately view it with suspicion
Unfortunately, the community has been quite inhospitable in that regard
Intentionally misconstruing or comparing apples to oranges.
Going "Korean games have microtransactions," meanwhile Fortnite, rainbow six and other American shooters
Or "they made PUBG" which is a different genre, with different rules and pricing
If we want to be so condemning and critical of AI, let's do it with a company that has openly verbalized its intent on its use, EA
Their director was quite open about it recently and if your fears of AI should be somewhere, it's there and not with inzoi

I'm glad they're delaying it. From what I saw in Dr. Gluon's "early access", I saw that they had a lot more work even for full early access. As I mentioned in response to another video, the anatomy and animations are still problematic. Since the realism in this game is one of the "features", that would be something that could turn people off.
I was also worried about the emptiness that the game seemed to have. It reminded me of the complaints we had about TS3, or about places in TS4 like the Tomarang Market which seem to lack the number of NPCs visible. (Unfortunately, that may be due to the open world. The more spread out the area where the other characters have to inhabit, the fewer we'd see. Otherwise, the game would have to generate far more NPCs than most can handle, just to make the crowds seem "lively.")
They also released a change to what specs are "minimum" and "recommended." That's not a good sign either, since it means they realize that the game is more clunky than they expected. Lags, empty "crowd scenes" and the like are all indicative that the game needs to have a higher-end computer than average. It might not even be possible to have all the features that players want, even on the fanciest computers.

That system does help fill the world some by filling empty job positions and giving you new people to speak to but it's not giving you 90 more characters you could have making your own alongside the out of towners.

    • @junerussell6972
      @junerussell6972 Месяц назад +2

You should not have to make "90 more characters" to fill a world. You should be able to play in a populated world using only the one "character" (or family) that you have chosen. To need to "populate the world" other than how it fills job positions and gives you new people to speak to is problematic and symptomatic of a poorly designed game.

This, the change in specs was a huge red flag that the game just wasn’t running well as designed. As much as the hardcore LBY supporters want to say we just can’t get over the “ugly” characters there was much more that was worrying.
I also wondered why they sent youtubers demos and only allowed them to post shorts on there personal channels and not full videos. InZoi had me questioning their validity, but they at least allowed youtubers to just play with the game as it was at that point (my trust was curved by them providing laptops for gameplay) but still.

I think it's mostly optimization issues
I don't think they remembered optimization during development
If my guess is true and they initially bought and were running unity assets, that'll explain a lot. A lot of them aren't the most optimized but none of that is a problem when you have the skills to clean them
Then there's the code. The game is made in unity. It's an ambitious game, it should be made in unreal, which is already a major setback in my opinion
Unreal makes it cleaner and easier to mass spawn assets, also ethically it's the better company. Unity literally put out a policy that would have bankrupted indie devs a while ago. They only rolled it back due to backlash
Having your game on such shaky foundations is crazy

Saw this coming, saw it months ago. If they had released this in early access the sims 4 players would have torn it apart. They have over promised. Their progress has been very little with the art style of the characters. Again I blame the team and LBY stans for not making it a priority with feedback which has delayed the game even further. Not a smart move at all. Many trying to sweep the issue under the rug mentioning its only early access. Yes its early access which says the game is not complete but on its way. Definitely not on its way with character art style. They need to start from scratch which they could of done this months ago. They were going to make modders fix the the characters which I find to be a very terrible business decision on LBY part. They also need a new team by the looks of it. The trust is also the issue here because a lot of people will now feel that we can not trust them what they tell us with the broken promises and lack of improvement.

Most of them are open world games. Higher requirements are fine but this game is not in anyway good enough to require that much ram. This announcement does not bother me as I won't be playing it. I hate the idea of having AI conversations. When I play a simulation I don't want to have to actually care about what's being said. That's one of my favourite things about the sims. While gameplay seems to be the focus and I applauded that, the models and everything just seem unmotivated... sterile... Like you look at any other Life sim being developed and you can see a certain style, LBY doesn't give off a style, just basic assets. @@SimmerErin Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 is the long-awaited second installment of a niche but beloved RPG. Paradox acquired the IP controller in 2015. At first the new game release was scheduled for 2019 and the studio tasked to work on it was Hardsuit Labs, which included some of the original game's team. After a spectacular called off launch and refund of pre-orders of what was announced as a done product (sounds familiar?), the game was delayed several times, and in 2021 the project was entirely called off and reworked from scratch by another studio (later revealed to be The Chinese Room). The current game is now scheduled to be released in Q4 this year, five four years after the original announced date, and is a very different beast from Hardsuit's game.
Of course the parallel is imperfect, as Paradox Tectonics is in-house so it would not make much sense for Paradox to externalise the IP, but the feeling is strangely familiar...

i said this in the comments of another video but putting a release date on this game at all was a very poor decision when they first announced it and it definitely didn't do them any favors up to this point. all it's done has made people lose trust in the devs and paradox, so the choice to not give a release date after this delay was a wise one. people are going to be pissed regardless because, as i saw someone say, "delay anything and watch as adults become children", and the life sim community is especially entitled and vitriolic. they've definitely lost a lot of supporters, but they'll have new ones as they continue posting throughout development and when the game is finally ready to release into early access

yes it was.. question is who made those decisions. Was it poor decisions a la lby studio or was paradox involved and misjudged

The whole reason of early access is that it is unfinished product. And that the community provide feedback on what works and what doesn't. Early access is for fan who support the development of the game till finally they can release the full version.

Pls let the developer know or they shouldn't be releasing early access. It's going to take months for them to releaae a polished version. 😢 And what will be the point of feedback any more

I’m okay with this. Release it in a working state, I say. If they need more time to make a better game I’m really not too upset. There are things that need improving, as you mentioned, and I hope they take the time to do that.

Honestly, this comes as no surprise but I don't know how I feel about it. Part of me is annoyed because I was actually starting to get a little excited about the game (I think) but part of me is glad because there is obviously a lot of work still needs to be done. Whatever anyone says, the characters ARE ugly af, they look like a throwback from the early 2000's. I know things are rarely perfect in early access, and believe me, I've played a lot of early access games but I've never played one where the characters themselves need a complete overhaul. To me, this shouldn't even be Alpha access. I honestly hope that people don't give up on them because i do believe this game has so much potential but its clearly a long way from being ready.

I have fairly mixed feelings too... I was feeling based on community feedback it wasn't ready. I like games taking a step back when they feel they are not
what worries me is doing this a third time, and also often cancelling last moment.. and many of the concerns feel like not a lot of progress has been made. I think time can help but I wonder if they will get more support

😨😭😱Here we go again as I listen a song by the same name (Here we go Again) by Demi Lovato. I look at my crashing clunking broken Sims 4 😣and try to start it up again. As I dream of what could have been LBY instead.💔

I believe that they are trying to avoid a repeat of the Cities: Skylines 2 launch. That was an epic disaster for them.

certainly a consideration. paradox seems at very least aware of mis ste[s they've made

Can't say I'm surprised by the delay, but certainly a bit disappointed. I can see how some people are taking delays as a positive, but honestly this is just a disaster.
LBY should never have been announced when it was. It's lost a lot of good will with these repeated delays. The only way it recovers is if they actually fix the graphics and launch with a functional game before Inzoi and Paralives saturate the market (assuming they are good games).

I think delays can be positive, but I think the subsequent delays without clear progress and poor communication is worrying

Ugh I’m getting kind of frustrated to be honest. I know they’ve got very hard jobs but three times delayed? Come on

I feel like they should not have set the other deadlines- also wonder if there was a disagreement or mandate between paradox vs the lby studio

  • @MugshotMidge
    @MugshotMidge Месяц назад +2

I do support the delay, but I think they should just release it in its completed state rather than early access. The game has promise and potential, the early access period could ruin that for people especially those who don’t understand what early access means. Sure have play testers sure, but don’t release it to early access. Especially after 3 delays in a row.

    • @SimmerErin
      @SimmerErin  Месяц назад +1

to clarify, you think they should have no early access? do you want them to continue beta testing with content creators?

    • @MugshotMidge
      @MugshotMidge Месяц назад

@@SimmerErin beta testing would probably be the best course of action at this point, early access is too risky especially with the triple delay. The content that they put on social media should continue, but with how they’re doing it now.
