He knew with Daniels call on turn that there was a possible payday on its way, paired board and rainbow, still calls 24k. Daniel knew paired boards can cost big, should have jammed on flop, no reason for Daniel to not jam turn either
@@RedHeadSH0T he was entertaining back in the days. But then he started losing online and when he showed up live he was just playing very tight and looking depressed. Like in hsp season 6. But definately in his younger days he was fun to watch.
Agreed his online loses def messed up his psyche. They used to say its amazing how hed change his play up but honestly he was just scared to punt money away like he had been
barry told a funny gus story on his site. He said in the big game they play capped 100k and it was rare for someone to make or lose a million in a session. He said He saw Gus do it like 4 times in a few days
How did Gus make his money? He’s down something crazy like $18m online but I’ve never heard his business talked about. Was he just losing borrowed money?
No kidding and poket 5s was kid pokers first read even though he thought of all the ones that beat him is why kid poker is one of the best of reading hands
13:55 If Daniel push with the 777 in the turn ... I dont think Gus was folding open ended plus flush draw... maybe not All In but a 3x or 3.5 reraise... I will make it $77.700
Daniel's state of mind is a big factor to consider. He just lost a 500k plus pot being 1 outted coolered by that very same person. As you can see here 13:48 his body language clearly show he is both scared, frustated and even disgusted at the same time. He might not be thinking gus have set of 8 as much as flopping a straight, which in this flop is very possible.
I remember that quads hand from when it happened. Seemed like a fold at the time, and seems even more looking back. Nowadays you might have to call because the good players are all balanced in this spot, but back the, it’s hard to see Gus running a bluff. That wasn’t his style. His style was to play loosely goosey pre-flop through the turn, but when the big bets went in, he either had the goods, or a strong draw.
U must not have seen a lot of hands played by gus because he for sure was that maniac type of player and would run bluffs all the time. You might not have seen it or he just might not have even showed it on this show specifically but that was for sure his reputation and they all knew that.
He was an excellent player, but he didn't know when it would be over. He is also the biggest cash game losing player of all time. I think he gambled away 30 million.
why tf would u raise with AQ with the a hearts on turn. flat, then flat pretty much every river. you keep in all his combo blufffs and lose min to all 2 pair combos etc. Like gus has to have KQ or QJ to even consider calling (of the hands you beat)
Many hands I would have played slower than how Hansen did. For example, when he had 36 and Hoivold had AQ i would have just called his raise and check-call the river card. Such a small 2 pair is not worthy to re-jam coz another player might have Qx 2 pair or even a set. Ultimatley, things turned all the way south on him with his QQ. Again, I would have just called Daniel's raise on the flop for pot control and checked the turn card. If Daniel bets a lot on the river i can still make a judgement fold to minimize your loss. But this is hindsight knowledge, not trying to sound like a poker expert. Hansen probably thought Daniel was chasing and wanted to push him off. However the strength Daniel showed didn't seem like it..
Well this is pretty old and the game has changed a lot since then. Also these games aren’t played like your typical cash games, the dynamic and the decisions they make are a lot different than someone else might make in a different game. And just like dnegs RUclips series on new school vs old school he talks about this hand specifically and pretty much says exactly what you said would be the style of play now against back when this game was played.
That check raise by Gus with the quad 5s was brilliant
He knew with Daniels call on turn that there was a possible payday on its way, paired board and rainbow, still calls 24k. Daniel knew paired boards can cost big, should have jammed on flop, no reason for Daniel to not jam turn either
He found the one line where he got Daniel thinking about folding a full house... Not really brilliant...
I miss seeing Gus. Hope to see him back in action again.
Not unless he robs a bank.
He’s played some tournaments recently in Denmark, but not too many as he is now an accountant. You can find his biography video here on RUclips

" what book " 💀 Doyle dgaf! 🤣🙏
I love how in every one of these videos we always hear “this is the biggest pot in high stakes poker”
I love how stating facts, while not trying to clickbait, grabs attention. A lost art...
@12:07 Doyle: (nonchalantly) That's a big pot, but I've seen bigger lol
Lol right. Doyle is like that’s just an average day at Bobby’s room now hurry up so I can play some hands.
Gotta love Gus. I could watch him all day he’s so entertaining.
He was boring to watch in his last hsp appearance on season 6.

shoulda raised that pocket q's preflop
Yep he took the risk of slow playing em pre. Standard raise pre like was he supposed to and Daniel would never even have been in the hand

Gus Hansen sits down with 400 THOUSAND dollars LOLLOL this show was amazing.
These players are the reason poker exploded for me. Nothing like it now
Does anybody know when chopping started for small and big blinds in cash games ?
That only happens in small stakes home games and sometimes at casinos. It’s always been around it’s just not very common in these type of games.
I think its actually possible for Daniel to get away from that hand, it's Gus so I can't blame him for calling.
Maybe now adays he could get away but back then how the game was played he’s going broke 99% of the time there.
Gus Hansen's my favorite player. Unbelievable
What a maniac!
