LOL, could be, he might even have an agency that have an actual system in place and maybe have Lady and Trish working under him? Would be cool to see that hahaha
@@Jay9966 Imagine if/when they get out of the underworld Vergil will work alongside his bro and reorganize the agency into something more efficient/run his own buisness as part of their everlasting rivalry. He can even use yamato if they run out of job. Expedition to the underword...sounds like one hell of the safari
Vergil living Dante's life would mean he honors his contracts, regularly gets jobs, gets paid handsomely, likely living in a huge house instead of an apartment, filled with butlers and servants. Dante living Vergil's life would mean making a mess wherever he goes.
Yeah they're the same. Just different reactions to situations. With the way that Vergil is, he'd probably bang Lady after DMC3 and be a more profecient demon hunter than Dante.I mean Dante is good, but Vergil is serious and percise, he'd keep the DMC office clean with an airconditoner.
Vergil was shown to be calm and collected even before the trauma. So I think he would awkwardly try to get a family life. Dante was always extraverted so I think he would be some kind of chaotic neutral anarchist.
@@renansantos6533 Yeah, more specifically the version of reboot Dante in the very first DmC trailer, where he was alot more emo and angsty and alot more *angrier* than the obnoxious 14 year old we got in the final game
@ Rialy Andriamiseza i dont see dante even under vergils life being particularly interested in human politics and i doubt the demon world would have had even the concept of anarchy since they still have/ had/ have a monarch thus likely didnt have a period of enlightenment thinking unless you mean colloquial anarch which as many colloquial expressions go is the worst, most abstract and inaccurate definition
I could also imagine this AU Vergil being saddened by Dante’s descent into demonhood. His little brother, left alone while his mum was killed without any chance of mercy. This Vergil could still hold guilt from that day, honing his skills to make sure that’ll never happen to anyone else. His might, his power, will be used in revenge and perhaps one day bring his brother home. This is all just a guess
@@andrewwoods564 well yeah but Dante and Vergil do sometimes say similar things with the same intentions. AU Dante definitely would say that particular line but with a different tone.
The line Vergil says about their positions being switched is one of the best and most subtle ways of showing TREMENDOUS growth and development for his character. Vergil never gave a damn about how anyone else felt toward his quest for power, now he's considering that nothing was set in stone, and in other circumstances, things could be different. The only time he showed remorse before this was when he fought Dante at the end of DMC 3, he cared for his little brother and didn't want him to become trapped in the demon world. In DMC 5, when he contemplated alone, I thought to myself "wow", because that had done so much for his character in such a small way. Great storytelling.
My thoughts exactly. This may be the first introspection, the first re-evaluation, he's ever done. Remember before DMC 3's final fight, when Dante tried getting through by talking him down? Vergil lashed out in a rage. Our blue boy has grown. I almost regret Nero intervening, because I would love to see what conclusions Vergil would have come to without the outside push.
He also put some thought into how Dante's goals and beliefs were shaped by humanity as well as Dante considered humanity worse than demons since they lust for the same power that the demons had and Sparda sealing the world was denying humanity the privileges of power. He seen what Arkham do to obtain's his dad's powers, manipulating him to challenge Dante to a duel, killing his wife and tried offering his daughter. Demons in DMC may be spreading the chaos but the humans are the ones to make the first call.
To be honest, for someone as wild minded as Dante even as a kid before the trauma, I would think Dante would actually become a crazed, unrelenting and cruel being if he embraced his demonic side. He would've murdered many in gruesome ways and probably have many children with many women, the ones that survive. Vergil has a very reserved and discipline personality as a kid. He may not be as wild as canon Dante and might actually establish a professional demon hunting shop with proper management. He might actually start an orphanage for poor orphanned children who lost their parents in demon attacks. Imagine that. We won't ever know the answer unless Capcom does some weird reboot that restarts from the tragedy. Maybe some weird spin-off manga or short game.
Him becoming obsessed with vengeance, perhaps to the point where he decides to exterminate every demonic being, half- or otherwise, is also a possibility. Him rejecting his demonic side, and forcing it to become a tool, I could see. Imagine DMC3, but with Dante facing Mundus and becoming his slave knight. He hated the fact he is related to Sparda, afterall. Both Dante and Vergil were almost pre-destined by their experiences. Although this hypothetical scenario would require a few tweaks, concerning their childhood.
Well he saw Kyrie being kindapped by the Pope aka Sanctus...he had some traumatic experiences too, especially Credo's death, he blamed himself for his death...The whole thing about the Switching positions, is that it also impact Nero's Destiny as well...if they Switched, Nero would have been Dante's son ? Or he never would have existed...Instead of getting the Yamato, he would get the Rebelion ? I would love a non canon DLC about this switching...this is way too interesting man
@@Upsetkiller456 i would've thought if kyrie died, nero would become even MORE like vergil tho, given he'd probably see her death as his fault for not having enough *P* *O* *W* *E* *R*
Virgil would sound like a 'gentleman' devil hunter: He actually runs a business that isn't in constant debt, takes the time to care for patty more than Dantae did, dresses to the nines for every occasion, he's still a bookworm, and would initially go under the name "Anthoney Redgrave".
@@TheFunniMan1388 and if that happened how would Nero develop as a child... A major part of his character was his childhood spent as an orphan whose mother was thought to be prostitute or at best a woman who was impregnated by a man and then abandoned. That and him being adopted by Credo and him meeting Kyrie shaped most of who he was. I truly wonder what Nero would be like if he grew up knowing his father and being with him. And also would the Devil Bringer be awakened, because the reason why his powers awakened was when Kyrie was attacked by a demon or demons and he was trying to protect her.
I'd definitely enjoy seeing an "evil" dante. Imagine the possibilities for twisted humor. That would be one of the most charismatic antagonists that would exist in video games.
Vergil would be working on moving his wife/girlfriend in too his business to have his son in dmc 3. Until uncle Dante kidnaps his kid calling it babysitting with uncle dante

Vergil can actually change his voice to match Dante. Rewatch the scene of him charging Vergil. And since they have already proven in game to be able to do everything the other can, I'm willing to bet Dante could actually mimmick Vergil's voice if he wanted to.
Finally. Ever since Vergil said the whole "switch" speech in the game I thought that would have led on to a cool DLC of sorts, but no. Would have been seriously interesting to see a villain Dante and a good guy Vergil.
@@jackbrooks3713 Yeah, like a spin-off short game or a spin-off manga or something like that. And I'd love to see that for the sake of our curiosity especially about what if Dante and Vergil switched places.
@@UnifiedEntity on the surface as a stand alone game yeah but it inside the series in a whole is really good, people say DMC 3 story is good mainly because you don’t need to play previous games or read mangas/novels to understand it since it’s chronologically the first game
This is a really fun topic to explore. From what we've seen, their personalities have been the same since childhood in that Dante is more carefree while Vergil is more collected. As you stated in the video, studies of identical twins have the result of them being the same and also turning out different when separated. They could go either way, but here's my take on all this... I don't think that their personalities would switch at all. What I think is that they'd be the same as they are, but softening on some parts while becoming more stubborn in others. In Dante's case, being the more carefree and "happy" of the two, if he'd been the one who had lived for a decade thinking his family had been slaughtered, I'd wager he would be really hurt on the inside. I do say he'd embrace his demonic heritage far more than he did normally because it was that which saved him from death that day. However, I don't think he'd discard his humanity. In the way that Vergil says that might controls everything, and that without it you cannot protect anyone would probably be Dante's guiding mantra. Survivor's guilt would be Dante's defining trait in regards to his endeavor for power after that day. He'd be a Batman, basically, striving for more strength in order to keep that tragedy from ever repeating. I'd bet he ends up with many failed relationships because of his deep seated fear of losing those he's come to love. Unlike what happened in DMC3, if he found out Vergil was alive he'd probably break down into tears like a baby with joy because at least his brother was not lost that day. Not for one second do I think Dante would try to open the way into the demon realm. The line about "Sparda's power divided into two" is misleading. It isn't meant to be taken literally. Twins are copies, not one person split in half. If that were the case we'd have 2' tall people who are just a torso and another who are a pair of legs. Demon genetics are something we can only clumsily speculate on, but they are both sons of Sparda and have the same potential to match or surpass their father. They are half demon, not half people. Vergil's story would be the one that changes drastically imo. Vergil being saved by Eva and then hearing her die would temper his hatred/apathy towards humanity greatly. I think that instead of relentlessly seeking power, he'd grow up with thoughts of his mother and her sacrifice keeping him noble and considerate. Humanity is what led to him surviving, and he'd keep those values close to his core to honor Eva. I think he'd seek out power to prevent tragedies as I said of Dante, but not to the extent of canon Vergil. Meeting Dante again when they were a bit older would be a warm reunion, not him basically disregarding his brother and fighting him with the intent to kill. Likely there'd be a time where they were together again and getting to know one another all over again, realizing they aren't so different and compromising in their beliefs. They'd both seek strength, but to protect, not to stave off feeling weak at all costs. Honestly, it'd be a much happier timeline. That's just my take though. They'd both love pizza too.
So many arguments over half-and-half pizza orders. You reckon Vergil would like pepperoni? Olives? Dante I think is a confirmed straight-cheese kinda guy.
This post makes me think of Nero's quote from DMC 4, "On that day, my arm changed, and a voice echoed. 'Power. Give me more power.' If I become a demon, so be it. I'll endure the exile. Anything to protect her."
Hmmm it depends on the extent of the Trauma and of Dante felt that he was abandoned. I could see your way happening where they are tempered and when reunited could become a team working together and always having each other's back. But if Dante thought he was abandoned he could snap and become something darker. But then again I'm used to Yoko Taro's work so I could be totally wrong.
@@2495781 I think Vergil mostly felt abandoned because he always felt Dante was the favourite before then, so in his mind her inability to save him must have been a conscious choice. Dante would have thought of the world as a dangerous, cruel place, but not his mother, as Vergil did.
My assumption/theory regarding their lives being swapped goes as follows: Vergil would be very open in letting people/enemies know that he is a son of sparda, still embracing his demonic heritage in a sense but honoring his father's legacy as a protector of humanity. I speculate that Vergil would still feel that desire for greater power as the memory of their mother's death would haunt him but it would be more as a motivator rather than an all consuming desire. Vergil would travel the world to locations where Sparda has known relevance like Fortuna and ends up conceiving Nero after meeting Nero's mother in his travels and actually raises him as his son and a descendant of Sparda. Essentially, Vergil gets to live out his life but it's more so in the shadow of his father than his own image. Dante I believe would not turn completely evil; but he would become considerably more distant and cold. He would retain his rebellious nature, his smart mouth, and his general attitude and disposition as we know him but he would not give an actual f*** about anything or anyone; including Vergil. Dante would become a cynic, and a bit of a nihilist. He would never be able to form any close relationships because he holds that memory of losing their mother and by extension; that feeling of abandonment and loneliness close to his heart. Vergil is the only person Dante could turn to or talk about it but at the same time, Vergil is the walking reminder of both his greatest pain and his own inability to do anything to save her so he tries to avoid Vergil and his family like a plague. That's at least how I invision it. Great video though! I love the in depth analysis of their characters.
Also Dante probably would humanity in contempt for keep chasing after Sparda's legacy no matter how many lives it claims. Remember almost every plot involves humans wanting to be like Sparda and unleashing demons invasions in Red Grave and Fortuna
Here’s some nuances I want to mention could happen because of the swap. Could, but not definite: - Vergil would be found first and hidden in the closet while Dante is playing by himself outside. - Eva’s speech to Vergil would be slightly different because she knows her sons. She knows what to say. She would tell him to be strong and start a new life, but tell him something else. Don’t know what, but something. Dante was probably closer to his mother than Vergil so would have felt like all the blame is with Vergil for letting her die since she saved him first and she died afterwards. - Vergil might soften his stance on human weapons since power isn’t everything to him. He might even get a tanto knife or a set of throwing knives or something instead of Summoned Swords since he can channel demonic energy in them and wasn’t really that fond of firearms in the first place. Dante would likely go for the most powerful guns he can find, demonic guns included. - Vergil would eat a more varied diet than Dante, but indulge in whatever his favorite food is on occasion. Dante would still eat and drink whatever he wants. - Vergil would still visit Fortuna for information, but under different pretenses. Maybe Nero might or might not have happened with a father in the picture? Who can say for sure. - Vergil might dress slightly different, more casual than he normally would but Dante might dress more wild. - I think Vergil would be a Devil Hunter that goes solo and keeps his operations mobile as opposed to a single shop. Who’s to say he won’t have a shop, but multiple branches? Dante might still take on contracts, but more as an infamous mercenary kind of deal. - The brothers would still fight, but not in the same way as they did before. They always fought in their childhood and do like a good fight time to time. - Vergil would prefer to walk or use the Yamato to travel while Dante would still use a motorcycle. He could own one or steal it, doesn’t matter.
I imagine Vergil owing Devil May Cry and it being the cleanest place on the planet. And most likely he keeps all his Devil Arms and will never go into debt. My question is if he does own DMC Shop in the anime, how would Vergil deal with Patty?
Probably show her some dumb stuff like poetry and violin and OUTSHINING EVERYONE AT THE DISCO MINIGA--- wait, wrong franchise Anyway, he'd be more of a father-figure than an older brother to her, especially considering how he's already in that mature kind of mentality. By that time, he'd probably already have a child of his own.
WARNING: SPOILERS ABOUT Devil May Cry 5 : Special Edition. The Ending of Vergil's campaign in DMC5:SE suggested both siblings had different relationships with their parents. They mentioned how Vergil cried when Eva got mad, while Dante did so when Sparda raised his voice. It's unclear whether that was an isolated incident or if that was the norm. But the fact they had that specific recollection from a distant past might indicate that's their strongest impression of each other from way back then. It would not be surprising if their upbringing was different from the start. I also heard somewhere that Sparda had picked Vergil to be his true successor, training him from childhood to take the mantle of the Human World's protector, while Dante was largely left to Eva's care. Which is interesting as the mangas show Dante was the one who developed a more aggressive personality (and was the source of most of the young sibling bickerings) while Vergil seemed to want a more peaceful existence.
Vergil's hypothetical relationship with Lady is that he likely would be less warm as a person, but he would have his shit together for the most part. He certainly wouldn't have as much money trouble and therefore would pay off whatever debts Lady pesters him for. Point being, while Vergil would be more awkward and stiff than Dante, he would still come to a similar understanding and confidence with Lady. She may even come to have a similar role to what Kyrie had with Nero, just later in Vergil's life. But then one has to consider what effect this would have on Lady...
The scent thing was because of sparda, he first fough dante because of sparda scente, and then toygh vergil was dannte because he didnt knew sparda had two sons, but all it took was one attack from vergil fro him to see the diference, but again, the mixing up thing was purely because both twins smeled like sparda.
This guy explains psychology better than my college teacher And basically vergil would be more like DMC2 dante stoic and serious most of the time And i see dante would be more like half V and half Urizen
I believe if their positions were switched that day it might have a major difference. Cause though Dante has always been the rebellious one, he was also the wises if the two. If he survives against the Demons attack using he’s Demonic Powers that day. He may have still value he’s Humanity and only saw he’s powers as a necessity. Even after being unable to save Eva he would have still value he’s Humanity cause Dante name stands for enduring in Italian. Dante knows how to channel he’s anger, cause he’s no Kratos. Vergil on the other hand after seeing he’s mother giving her life for him may have convinced him to embrace he’s Humanity. Thus making the twins first reunion a warm embrace for two lost brothers in arms. Rather than a twisted brotherly dual. At least that’s what I want to believe.
Truth is, there’s no answer for that question, until that happens. We will never know who Dante or Vergil would be if their positions were switched. Assumptions is all left for us. The space for imagination ...
Vergil seeks power to never feel helpless because his weakness. Dante seeks power to be wacky, to feel the adrenaline, to feel the void of loneliness. Nero seeks power to protect. I think that Protected Vergil would be more like Nero, seeking power to protect so he won't feel loss again. While Dante, being more explosive and quick to action, would seek power to obtain revenge. Instead of wanting to merge the demon and human world, he would seek to erradicate the demons who are responsible for everything he has lost.
Actually i agree but there 2 thing i wanna consider 1 dante isnt as smart /textbook as vergil he just going around and if he wanna eradicate demon he must jump to portal if he even able to find one 2.mundus defeat dante since before dante surpass sparta in dmc2 Dante is significantly weaker than mundus so he eather became nelo angelo potencialy very soon And vergil find him before dmc 5 after malei iland
@@lordizzadi6981 Dante Nelo Angelo: Ha! You're fighting style is weak. You must be your parents favorite child huh? Momma boy. Alternate Virgil: Why you
Can't wait to see part 2, but here's a tidbit I hope gets included in your analysis. Sparda's personality was apparently an even mix between Dante's and Virgil's, specifically that he was rebellious like Dante (which to me means he just didn't care much for social conventions) but levelheaded like Virgil. I think we can take this to mean that to a certain degree, Demon genetics carry a little more weight when determining the pyschological development of offspring. I say this, because if the egg had never split to form twins, it's reasonable to assume the hypothetical "Dargil" would be much closer in overall personality to their father. The fact that had the egg not split, the child would have inherited Sparda's full power, also supports this idea. So knowing that at least these two traits are inherited genetically to some degree, I think Hypothetical-Dante's rash nature would be more exaggerated, but rather than try to rationalize his trauma the way Virgil did, we'd probably end up with a character very similar to -and I really cringe to say it- the DmC Dante but perhaps not not quite that bad. He would definitely be more vulgar and dismissive of people, but I don't think he'd necessarily end up with a superiority complex, or be likely to actively seek to increase his power. Hypothetical-Dante would be riding his own hype train for sure, but rather than believe he needs to scramble up the demon food chain, he would probably believe he's already at the top...and he wouldn't really be wrong, ESPECIALLY if we assume that he still gets Rebellion. Being more intouch with his Demonic Heritage, he's way more likely to put two and two together on how the Yamato and Rebellion reflect one another much sooner than Canon-Dante, and would probably have access to SDT for most of his adulthood, rather than only achieving it in his 40's. Hypothetical-Vergil would honestly likely have much more of a change than Dante. His levelheadedness, and tendency to rationalize his experiences would probably mean that he would likely respect his mother's wish for him to stay hidden for longer than Dante did. I don't even necessarily think Hypethetical-Virgil would willingly go into Demon Hunting as a business, and is much more likely to end up having a more typical "Hero's Journey" character arc.
I don't think that power inherited from a demon would be cleanly split between the two. That line he includes is more of a thematic one in that the two sons are like the two halves of Sparda - one who enjoys his strength but remains humble like Dante, but the level headedness and willingness to see things through like Vergil, like you said in your opening statement. It's something strange to think of, but say a man is a musician and a painter. If his twin sons inherit his talent, would it be an even split? Would one be a proficient painter while the other is a great musician with absolutely zero crossover, or would they both be mediocre at both things, having inherited "only half" of their father's strengths? Clearly Dante has far surpassed Sparda by the time of DMC5, by a mile. Vergil has as well.
@@magnawaves The thing is you can interpret "evenly dividing his power" to mean one of two things, and this applies to your talent analogy as well. The first and in my opinion most likely interpretation in the case of DMC, is that each twin is genetically predisposed towards a specific aspect of Sparda's power. In your talent analogy this would equate to each twin having a natural inborn affinity to one of the two arts. This doesn't mean in either scenario that the twins are limited to that which they have a genetic predisposition for, but it would mean that aspects which more closely aligned with their inheritance would come to them much easier. The second interpretation, is that rather than the aspects of Sparda's power, The line refers to the quantifiable measure of his power. Now I'm sure to some degree that with demonic genetics this might be the case, after all as magical beings demons are born with a certain amount of innate power, just as the genetics of humans give them advantages and disadvantages in life. Because this is always true to a certain degree This is what I meant by the idea that demon genetics carry more weight than human genetics. Purely demonic beings likely have a base amount of power that they are born with, which increases both as a function of time and as a function of usage just like the development of human talents: which is to say I don't think pure blooded demons ever really have to train a day in their lives simply because The natural environment of hell would leads to constant usage of one's power, which means there is likely a genetic upper limit which is why so many demonic artifacts are focussed on increasing power in some form or another: simply put I believe the power of a demon stagnates after a certain point, unless they seek external sources for power. So I suppose the answer to the question is really that it's a little bit of both, but that the nature of demons suggests the first interpretation to be a much more defining aspect. I think Virgil's and Dante's genetic predispositions are what determined which sword they inherited from Sparda, but in terms of the measure of their power, I think they probably started off considerably much weaker than Sparda even would have been in his youth, but because they are half human, there is no genetic upper limit that they reach purely as a function of time: in essence the measure of their power is much more strongly determined by frequency of use but they still retain some level of overtime power gain, as well as the ability to draw power from external sources.
@@magnawaves to break that wall of text down to a more bare bones message, power is an aggregate of both inborn talent and skill developed from repetition, so the "power"inherited in halves by each twin, refers to their natural predispositions towards aspects of their father's natural abilities. I also think Nero is actually a really good example to prove my thinking correct. Since he is not a twin son of Sparda, we have a much more defined set of evidence. Nero's innate power is an externalization of his demonic side, which is probably why the way his power manifested when using the Yamato is a literally full second body. Nero's natural ability is to literally wield his power like a weapon, literally separating it from his main body. We can see aspects of this in Virgil's power such as the summon swords, so externalization of power is likely one of the genetic traits passed on from Sparda, And this is why the Yamato has the power to separate things.
@@azerik92 I agree with what you're saying. There are many ways of going about it and it's an awesome discussion well worth going into, and I agree that we can't really know for certain the way a demon's power works through inheritance. I saw some people in the comments literally taking it as Dante and Vergil being 50/50 of Sparda and I wrote my own wall of text about the potential what if topic of the video, but that's why I was clarifying that taking it too literally doesn't sound right.
Ok thats true, Vergil hasnt had any history of killing off non-evil characters. But we have to remember, Trish tried to cheat Dante to kill him. If she done the same to Vergil, that would not have went well.
Not as kids, Dante was the more “in the moment” one as a boy while Vergil was more thoughtful and compassionate. He may have been able to save her better than Dante did.
In chapter 11 of visions of v when talking to the reflection of Dante V actually stated that they had the same face. So that pretty much states that they are identical twins.
@@RazzlyCrunch I kinda find that a little more realistic tbf. I used to have a twin brother and we looked damn near identical to the undiscerning eye, so much so that until we were at least 2 or so my father admits he was never 100% sure which of us he was actually playing with unless my mother told him otherwise, but as we began to change slightly in terms of face structure, while my face took on a sharp, thin kind of structure, his took on a chiselled, slightly wider one. Very subtle to the undiscerning eye but to us it was quite obvious. Personally I would have found it weirder if they both looked exactly the same even though they've both lived their lives on different paths. What one eats, the environment they grow up in, the stress they experience, all of it is a factor.
@@RazzlyCrunch Itsuno (the director of DMC3,4 and 5) explained that they look different because Dante spent his time in the human world while Vergil in the underworld
I’m late to the party, but I wanna take a crack the Hypothetical bros. Starting with Vergil, I think he’d be simply reserved than stoic. He’s in tune with his emotions and is brutally honest in the most rational sense. Instead of prizing power, in this version, he’d value stability. Stability is the healthier side of power and control. Despite the tragedy, Vergil holds on to the foundation that kept him grounded i.e. his mother and the importance of family. Having that motivation is his drive to do what he does with clarity. On the other hand, I do believe Vergil would retain his resentment toward not only Dante but maybe towards his mother because of the expectations and responsibilities that goes with him being the older sibling. It’s bad enough he’s cleaning up his father’s mess now there’s Dante. He’s supposed to be the more ‘mature and responsible one’ looking out for his brother. I also think there’s an underlying jealousy Vergil has towards Dante for not having to deal with such pressures. Vergil is aware of these feelings but he suppresses them. He might be a little afraid to voice them because it makes him uncomfortable. Even though he’s an honorable guy, Vergil has a problem with duty. Now on to Dante, he would still be the jovial wild child but, also would be cynical, bitter, violent and scornful. (If we’re going by how hard the tragedy effected him like it did Vergil.) He’d scoff at the words ‘love’ & ‘family’ and pretty much will insult everything and everyone that puts stock into it. It’s a joke to him. He wears his heart on his sleeve and cares not what others think of him. He still likes to play games but doesn’t like to feel cornered. He hates it, because it reminds him of the night of the tragedy. Concerning his views of his mother, Dante is very much aware that realistically, there wasn’t much Eva could do because she was human. He probably would call her a fool for trying to look for him. He’d laugh saying love or family didn’t save him, his demon did. Dante fully embraced his demon because he needed it. He had to. Denying it would be silly. Difference between Hypothetical Dante and Canon Vergil, is that Dante doesn’t want power because of inferiority, he wants it simply because it’s there. He doesn’t fully discard his humanity, just the aspects he deemed useless. Despite knowing Eva possibly wouldn’t be able to find him, the child in Dante still carries the hurt and impression that she abandoned him. So if the positions were switched, I think the dynamic between the brothers would be more emotional because they are both in touch with their humanity more freely.
Here is my take/notes on the "Switched Fate Alternative Universe": Vergil would hate himself for being to weak to protect his family, but also honour his mother's sacrifice by training to become strong enough to never lose his life to any threat and avoid making her sacrifice in vain. He'll dedicate his life in investigating the reason and culprit of the attack on his family, what leads him into the various legends of his father Sparda and to the conclusion that the leader of the demon world might be the one responsible. He'll understand that his family were victims of an 2000 years old grudge against his father and that the entire demon world will not stop until he and all future descendents of Sparda are dead. His final conclusion will be, that he and his own descendents will never live in piece from the demons and that he needs to become powerful enough to take the entire demon world and stop the circle of vengeance. Dante's path is dependent of the "IF" he survives and "IF" he looks for his family. You see Dante showcased demonic powers in the dmc3 manga before being stabbed with the rebellion in dmc3 game, but if Dante can't activate those in the time of need, he could die. So in the case that he DID survive, he would look for his family in the chance that they might still be unharmed. If he DOESN'T find his family or look for them, then three emotions from this trauma will define his character: Hatred against the demons responsible for the death his family, Greef for said loss and attachment to his own Power that allowed him to survive. Growing up, the trauma and emotional stress will cause Dante to embrace his power with arrogance and disrespect everything and everyone he sees as weak, because "Only the strong survive in this world, only those with Power are FREE to do and live as they please", a Mantra that will determine his ideology. To embrace his power, Dante would seek to challenge the strongest demons he can find and only interact with humans who are "Strong enough to do something for themselves", living a live with the goal to become "The strongest". His character would be a fusion of Reboot Donte & Vegeta in an Anime-Gang-Leader-Way. His final conclusion would be, that in order to become/proof he is "The Strongest", he must beat down the one who stands "At the top" of the demon world. Now this is the point where the brothers paths are destined to cross because of their somewhat similar goals. It will be a shock for both but their interaction will make clear how far apart the have changed. Dante will remark his brother for his progress, but still see himself superior. Vergil being the reasonable one, will suggest that the work together since the entire demon world has targeted both them, but Dante will arrogantly decline, stating "I can take all those scumbags on my own!" and he's "Doing pretty good all by myself, didn't need help back there and sure as hell I'm not going to need it now!". This conflict will separate the brothers again, making the start of their Character Arc, where both brothers race against each to reach the ruler of the demon world first and will end with both brothers accepting that they have better chances together and learning how to work as team, while keeping their rivalry alive. The fight against Mundus will go on depending of, if the brothers possess the Force Edge and in that story is where Arkham comes into play: If Arkham manages to convince one of the brothers to unseal the Temen-ni-Gru (If DANTE, than with the promise that the Sparda will make him "The strongest"; If VERGIL, than with insurance that the Force Edge will help him defeat the demons once and for all) and convince the other brother to intervene (If VERGIL, than to stop Dante from causing chaos; If DANTE, than to stop stop Vergil from becoming stronger than him). What makes this part tricky is that after investigating his father's heroic dids, Vergil might embrace both of heritages in honour of his father's heroism and his mother's sacrifice, thus allowing him to reach Devil Trigger at some point, but if Dante hasn't figured out how to unlock Devil Trigger with the Rebellion, he'll have an disadvantage. And here is where we might face a problem: the original story Dante and Vergil had to learn to fully embrace the part of them they neglected and their swords where both metaphorical representations and keys for their evolution. Vergil learned to understand his human and demon sides as V & Urizen and Dante learned to accept the power he inherited from his father and as a result they both gained their ultimate form, the Sin Devil Trigger. But in this alternative universe, it's hard to imagine them acquiring this evolution the same way or at all. Vergil would have no reason to separate himself with the Yamato and Dante would have no reason to stab himself with the Rebellion, so in this alternative universe, Sin Devil Trigger might be unlikely to happen. In this universe Vergil learns to embrace his human side out of love and his demon side out of respect and admiration. Dante embraces his Power, not the source of it, so he will not come to explore and understand his demonic powers or his human emotions like he did in the original universe. But here is where my "Sparda Fan Theory" may work: What if Sparda used to arrogantly look down on humans because of their weakness, but then learned how their emotions pushed them forwards giving them unexpected strength and what started as curiosity, became respect for them. And he awoke to justice in their defence after experiencing these emotions himself? This may work for Alternative Dante as well: By mirroring his fathers evolution, Dante gets reminded of the warmth of love and finds his way back to compassion as the story progresses, maybe through people he meets and become his friends or by gaining attachment to a woman. This way the brothers Character Arcs mirror each as the "Conscious and unconscious embracing of their halves". Vergil being the "Conscious one" and Dante embracing his human attachments and demonic powers becoming the "Unconscious one". Now back to the point of the Story at the Temen-ni-Gru: If in their first meeting Vergil successfully defeats Dante, Arkham gets exposed and killed by either Vergil or Lady and the Force Edge might stay unsealed in the Demon World or taken by Vergil because he might need it to defeat Mundus; but if Dante defeats Vergil in their first meeting, Dante gets betrayed by Arkham and the Story goes similar to the original where the teamed up to defeat Arkham, giving a glimpse of what the can achieve together. The brothers will then proceed to determine woth has the right to wield the Force Edge with a fight. This is a big turning point because there are a lot of "What ifs" from here on and they can be summarised in: "Which brother will win?" "Will Mundus attack the brothers, while they are weakened?" "Will the brothers retreat back into the human world?" "Will Dante stay behind in the Demon World to face Mundus?" "Will Vergil use his change to defeat Mundus once and for all?" "Has Dante finally refound attachment to someone else at this point?" There is also an scenario where Dante decides to stay behind in the Demon World to fight demons for eternity and Vergil mourning this decision in front of Lady and making her say the "Even a Devil may cry" line... ...But... The worst case scenario is Dante becoming Nelo Angelo and Vergil looking for a way to return to the underworld, the best case scenario is both brothers defeating Mundus and proving themselves, that they are at their strongest and basically unstoppable fighting together. But their rivalry would most likely make them challenge each other from time to time back in the human world. Now with their vengeance completed Lady and Vergil become allies, Dante travels the human world and whenever something big is happening, like Argosax's resurrection or the return of the "Order of the Sword", the brothers will be involved and their rivalry will make everything difficult, but always strengthening their bond even further. Thank you for reading till the end. If you disagree with something, feel free to point out your argument. Good evening everyone.
Something I’ve been constantly thinking about since DMC5 is how V is the hypothetical human version of Vergil, the version of Vergil with no demonic heritage or influence. V and Vergil are very similar, their stoic nature, intellect, and subtlety sassy attitude, but the thing is DMC5 makes a point to show that V could be viewed as a “weakling”. He’s fragile, cautious, and has a genuine fear of death. This is a direct contrast to Vergil who is extremely power hungry and would never allow himself to be viewed as a weakling. We know Vergil’s obsession with power stems from his demonic heritage and his ideals of taking what’s rightfully his, embracing his demonic heritage. V doesn’t have this lust for power, because he’s the Vergil with no demonic influence. Compare this to Dante, who contrasts Vergil by understanding his demonic heritage and is instead humbled by it to some degree, choosing instead to be outwardly friendly to humans and becoming a complete goofball because he understands the restraint he must have with his demonic power, and the purpose it gives him. This begs the question, what would the purely human version of Dante be like? If V is Vergil without the lust for power and is a fragile weakling because of this, then the purely human version of Dante would have the same rambunctious and disinterested attitude without being humbled or down to earth. The human version of Dante hypothetically could be an overly rebellious nihilistic possibly even violent jerk, not caring for humanity as Dante does and instead is selfish and self indulgent. What am I getting at? The Reboot. Donte/DMC Reboot Dante is what Dante would be like without his demonic heritage humbling him If V is the intelligent but weak human version of Vergil, Donte/DMC reboot Dante is like the rebellious but selfish and overly indulgent human version of Dante Thank you for coming to be TEDtalk
Dante uses the Yamato to slice a hole in dimensions. Dante: Thank you, dead weight. Dante leaves. Vergil: Nero. You need to leave. Now. Nero-: Like hell, father. That bastard stole my arm. Vergil: You don't understand, my son. Nero: What is it? You think I'm weak? You can shove that- Vergil: That's not the case, son! Nero: What is it then?! Vergil: He's my brother! Nero: ... What? Vergil: I suspected as such when I first made contact with him but I didn't think anything about it. I thought he had died when our mother, your grandmother, did. Then he transformed like your grandfather in our last fight. And I was certain. He's your uncle. Now, I need to stop him. But I can't have you hurt in the process. Vergil walks away. Nero: ...My uncle?
This is perfect. Though also I can imagine one of Nero's line going instead like this "Like hell father. That bastard stole my arm. And he called me deadweight!! I didn't come all this way for nothing!"
I really loved this analysis!!! This also furthers the questions that are posed by William Blake's poetry. For example, how Dante would deal with his feelings of wrath and anger (should they arise from being abandoned the way Vergil was) would depend his sharing of those feelings, or isolation as a result of them. Blake's A Poison Tree (where "and it grew both day and night, till it bore an apple bright" came from) illustrates these two scenarios. "I told it not, my wrath did grow" describes the anger and fury that festered in Vergil's solitude, following his trauma, all the way up to his consumption of the Qliphoth fruit (fruit of the Poison Tree). "I told my wrath, my wrath did end", however, would fit Dante much better, as he grew up with a dependency on his older brother and mother. Wild and adventurous as he may be, he'd still inevitably depend on others to fill the hypothetical void of trauma within him, as he grew to expect. It's similar to how he grew fond of Trish even after her betrayal, as he would come to understand her unfortunate situation eventually. In a similar way, he'd likely hope for others to understand him as well as he "told his wrath". I did a comprehensive analysis of this and many other Blake poems and their connections to Devil May Cry 5 on my channel recently, if you are interested in how "Earth's Answer", "Infant Sorrow" and "Infant Joy" fit in. Great video and research on the twin studies, can't wait for part 2.
I really really look forward to part 2 I kinda imagine Vergil becoming a heartwarming devil hunter (probably a potential mentor too) if he was switched, hell, even being an actual father to Nero probably
I think good guy Vergil would be a somewhat emotionally distant father. He was always pretty introverted as a kid, so I think he would still have difficulties opening up and connecting with other people. He would mean well, but never quite be there for his family.
"Part 1" Oh my. We're in for the long haul, aren't we, Champ? Edit: "...why Dante... would come close to killing Trish in Devil May Cry 5." I am concerned.
Mostly likely the mommy issues since this dante would have believed his mother abandoned him and seeing a demon that looks liker her? He would be disgusted.
in my eye it mostlikely wont be like that cuz as far as dante goes to trauma i thingk he know hes mother just a human however the rage is still burning so its posible dante killing trish unless he stoped or no violent happend when they met
I had a bit of a headcanon on this. I read the Devil May Cry novel, and that had a few ideas in it i liked, and would apply to this AU idea. One is that Vergil would be wearing very simple, but smart clothes, like the green suit he wore as 'Gilver', but might have a firearm like a shotgun as backup, realising some demons have developed immunity to blades and needing to be prepared. He would be researching the Occult, seeking power but to bring peace instead of strength. He would be honorable in combat, but rather awkward in conversations for mundane things like talking with Lady, etc. Dante I'm not too sure on, honestly. Maybe growing a bizarre arrogance/disgust for humans, a kind of wild rage like Rekka from Fire Force (the 'My Stars!' guy), because he's lasted this long, so he has overconfidence? It'd make sense if in 3, their first confrontation is what humiliates/upstages him, and he gains an ACTUAL anger/hatred for Vergil.
That makes me think how Nero would STILL be Vergil's son and Vergil would actually have a family...Vergil and Dante both knew their father left but for some reason, we all know that Dante doesn't likes Sparda very much. Vergil would be stuck with what happened then and try to investigate even after years (and eventually end up in Fortuna lol) (let's note that Vergil had a thought that his mother loved Dante more than him before the events which took their life) Dante would probably think that he was unlucky enough to lose everything instead of thinking that he was left alone to die. He'd go for avenging the death of his parents instead of going power hungry...but he'll definitely embrace his demonic side more. When he runs into Vergil, he'll probably try fighting him to death, but then eventually ask him to join his quest to kill Mundus. But Dante went through a lot of pain in the process of reaching here...which will have a different effect on him and probably make all the bs I just said all horribly wrong. - - Okay, idk why I'm making this comment here...this clearly makes no sense...
Everyone keeps sending me this and I’m glad they did, it’s cool how you incorporate teaching with content creation. The quality and love put into this was motivating !
This not about video but wanted to write here Devils never cry: bless me with your light Devil trigger: embrace the darkens thats within me And bury the light as name of song suggest They all refers humanity as light and demonic side as darkness
See, I (and clearly many more in the comments) feel like it's important to factor in the differences in development each son of sparda had BEFORE the trauma into how they develop afterwards. Vergil is clearly introverted, loves literature and poetry, and is a calm, reserved person. Dante is still loud, boorish, energetic, extroverted, and witty. I don't actually have the time to think on this too much right now (wanted to make this comment before I forgot tbh), but my gut instinct is that: Dante would probably be a callous, cruel, and cynical a**hole who often mocks others for failing in life, and even mocks people for dying. Not dissimilar to his worst qualities in DMC3, just... exaggerated, and very much focused on keeping himself alive and ahead of the game. A cynical realist type. Vergil would be an honourable, considerate and thoughtful, taking on traits comparable to a noble knight or samurai, which is rather too easy to imagine, frankly. He honestly might even come across as a fantasist who believes in things like a truly just world where heroes defeat villains eventually... except he's real, and powerful enough to actually BE that person.
Honestly when it comes to Dante, I feel like his response to the trauma would be to try and shoulder everything on his own. He wouldn't be inherently evil, but it's clear just from Visions of V that because Vergil was 'older,' Dante usually got his way and there were likely no feelings of resentment that could be twisted by nobody coming to save him during the attack. Dante very clearly wanted to be around Vergil/his-family too, so I imagine the *big* big problem would be him taking out the demons and running into the house to try and find his family and save them (even if he is a kid,) and coming across his Mother's dead body, something which Vergil didn't even bother with trying to look for (because he thought she abandoned him.) If he found that, I think he'd blame himself for running away from the house when Vergil didn't want to play, and even more violently reject his demonic heritage than his normal DMC counterpart, or go all in and try to become some sorta demon that lives in his brother's shadow, to make up for his "mistake" that cost them their family.
God I can't wait for part 2. I envision Dante with his retained personality but as the one who almost died and now obsessed with power feels like he'd be far more chaotic and dangerous than Vergil ever was. Conversely though, I suspect Vergil would be SIGNIFICANTLY more sympathetic to Dante's experience and possibly hold himself more responsible for saving Dante from that darkness. .....this would be a treat to see actually. Capcom could redo the whole series off this concept alone and it'd be a blast.
Wasn't the reason for Dante and Vergil already having different personalities before their trauma just because Sparda and Eva didn't treat them equally, where both parents were harsher on Vergil while Dante had more leeway fo mess around?
Oh no. That's song is perfect as Vergil's theme, whether he's good or bad. All across the world, horrors of Hell would learn to dread the sight of that silhouette and would know their impending deaths when they heard the words: "I am vengeance. I am Hell's reckoning. I am the storm that is approaching..."
“A phoenix’s ash in dark divine” “Black clouds in isolation” “Two souls once lost and now they remember” “Lost shadows left behind” These lyrics are WAY too poetic and angsty for any sort of hypothetical Dante. I imagine their theme songs wouldn’t change that much
I was legit waiting for someone to talk about and explore more on the whole "If I had your life and you mine" Line because I believe it would really interesting to see how things would be different with these two switched. Great first video, can't wait for the next one!
Ok...never expect this, literally I was finishing a project while hearing this analysis... Champion Analysis: "Now that we have a solid foundation...we can start speculating about the specific lore differences....but in part two" Me: "Let´s find out which of the fandom theories will be near to be true"
I believe, if we factor in unique personalities, Vergil while having Dante’s life would have a different dynamic to it. He would have called nelo Dante brother. His mocking would have been in poems. He would have eased Nero into a job as a devil hunter and tried to make him his heir to the business, which would be properly maintained. I could honestly see Nero at that point being the child of Vergil and lady.
@@lordizzadi6981 I doubt Vergil would be in polygamous relationships. He’s refined, well mannered and holds himself in pride. Totally opposite of someone who would be in that type of relationship
And on having an ex wife; maybe. That part I also doubt tho. If he valued human traits instead of demon he would prolly work to keep married to lady/trish (prolly lady since trish was modeled by mundus to resemble Eva) if nothing else then for neros sake
This has always interested me and I can't wait to watch part 2. DMC3(AU) would be more difficult though, considering Dante would need the Yamato in order to raise Temen-ni-gru. But maybe i'm wrong on that front. Imagine Devil May Cry being a successful business though, bills paid ... power on ... what a crazy thought. I'm especially interested in who Nero would be in this alternate universe. Is he Dante's kid now or still Vergil's? In the latter case, how would that experience shape both Vergil and Nero? Would Nero grow up with both his parents? Also, Dante coming close to killing Trish? You have me intrigued.
well dante and vergil were already very different in character when they were kids. dante was more carefree while vergil was serious and more on the smart side. so they would not have the same live as their cannonical brother had when their positions would be swapped since their personalities already differed and by that they would have made different decisions.
I feel like swapped Vergil would have the personality of Old Ben Kenobi: wise, patient, not afraid to throw down if needed, protects his charges (plus, he has a sword that can disarm people~), but I can kinda see that he can get slightly irritated at times. OR Vergil is Alastor from Hazbin Hotel, but if his gentlemanly personality was cranked to 11. Again, smart, patient, not afraid to throw down, and doesn't curse that often. Swapped Dante would be Handsome Jack from Borderlands 2: wacky, petty, had a cruel sense of humor, egotistic as hell, a huge braggart, and gets beyond frustrated if things don't go his way. Plus, he's also the one that uses guns, so...(too bad Hyperion doesn't make a lot of 'good' pistols ahaha)
My man really spent 18 minutes just setting up the ground rules for his analysis only to make us wait for over a month for the next one Great video though can't wait for the next one I understand how much hard work must go into this so props to you man I do enjoy it
Dante's church massacre in DMC 4 shows how much of a genuine threat to all of us an angry serious Dante would be. And the special ending for DMC 5 shows Vergil's just as much of a corny dork, even his deep voice is fake. So they really are what they were born as, identical twins
In my opinion, to put it simply, Dante is inherently chaotic, while Vergil is inherently orderly. That night pushed one brother to good and the other to evil. So if their positions were switched, we'd have lawful good Vergil vs chaotic evil Dante.
Vergil: "That day, if our positions were switched, would I have your life and you mine? Champion Analysis: "Well actually..." This video is amazing, great work man! Looking forward to part 2.
I'm @12:21, but Imma just call it now, although I will watch the entire video... The reason they would be different if their positions were switched would be this - Dante had a memento of his father in Rebellion, while Vergil's was Yamato. Which was what vergil was pierced with by the demons which activated his Devil Trigger, from what I heard (didn't read the manga, but I watched your "Vergil's Inferiority" video). If we switch it around, and remember we switchin' their positions on that day only, Dante would be pierced with Rebellion, which we now know merges the human with the Devil. I think being an extrovert and playful his reaction would still be slightly different, given his young age and shock, but also similar to that of his awakening in DMC3. He would value his demonic powers, sure, but in a more playful manner, I doubt he would obsessively try to research Sparda's history like Vergil. He would give it a look, I guess, but nah... And Vergil would still be serious, in embracing his humanity as well. Kinda like Nero, I guess? "If I become a Demon, so be it!" kinda vibes, using his demon as a last resort, ashamed of it sorta. Nero really is like a swapped Vergil, now that I think about it. So strange, lol! xD
*Original Timeline* Vergil: Foolishness Dante. Foolishness. Might controls everything. And without strength, you cannot protect anything. Let alone yourself. *Alternate Timeline* Dante: You really are an idiot Vergil. To be strong is to be free. Without strength, you're just another pawn in someone else's game
well, it's important to remember that each one of the twins got a very different memento from their father, in the form of Yamato and Rebellion. The former being a key to unseal the demon world, which possibly gave Vergil more of a motivation to cause the events in Devil May Cry 3 and so on, while Rebellion wouldn't have that power. which could lead both of them to completely different personalities, no?
Everyone says that Vergil would have a clean apartment and pay bills. Yes, as we know Vergil, that may be the case. But consider this, Dante, as we know him, is most likely heavily depressed. Not paying bills, no electricity and you can see also in dmc5, when Morrison comes in, how much he has drank if you look at the bottles laying around. He is definitely and unfortunately, not in a good position. Vergil has gone through a lot of shit too, and both of their mental health is probably pretty bad.
I predict that Dante would essentially become a walking disaster area. Having been left to fend for himself, and then surviving via devil-trigger, he would be a nihilistic thrill-seeker, reckless and self-destructive; a teenager that actually is as invulnerable as he believes and could never be forced to grow up. He wouldn't see the value in people (after all, they're just gonna die anyway) and would treat them with casual, even murderous contempt. If he needed them for something he'd go full sociopath and be superficially charming until he got what he wanted, then cut them (possibly literally cut them) loose. Imagine being a kid riding in the car with your parents and this guy in red jaywalks in front of your car, doing a funky dance. Your dad has to slam on the brakes, then honks the horn and yells at the stranger, so he shoots your dad before dropping a smooth one liner. Then he gets offended because your screaming, horrified mother didn't laugh at his one-liner, so he insults her and starts to saunter off. Then the cops show up and he baits them into shooting him, so he can mock them about how pointless it is before shooting back. That's what it would be like to meet Dante. Vergil wouldn't even be a demon hunter, not at first. He was the responsible brother, the one who valued a quiet life. If Eva had given him that speech she gave Dante, Vergil would take that as a sacred duty to live as a normal human, to be successful in life and to honor her heritage. He would be perfectly happy to start his own business, join a fencing club, and go see the new production of King Lear on Saturday. Even if he witnessed other people being killed by demons, he would still "stick to the plan," to honor his mom's last wish. It would take fate or luck throwing Dante into Vergil's path to make him realize, just like Dante once did, that it's a family matter and he can't stay on the sidelines. After that, he would accept that this is a duty, a responsibility he must see through in order to honor both his parents. Vergil would be the most refined of devil-hunters, emotionally distant and dapper, cool and charming, James Bond with a blade. Even then, I doubt he would make it a business. For Vergil, it would be unpleasant necessity and he would be glad to escape into work or literature when he could get away with it. He would still be a loner, since his more sensitive personality would still be afraid of getting hurt. Because Eva saved him, he'd be much more receptive to teamwork, but it would be an uphill battle to make him actually open up to anybody emotionally. The wild card in all of this is their demon side. For all we know, DMC demons are magical to the point that they don't even have DNA. Also, whichever of them Eva didn't save, had their devil side awaken years before the other. That has to have an impact, and we don't know exactly how much. They might not literally have an evil voice whispering in their ear (although Nero mentions in DMC 4 that he did.) but it would still be a massive temptation towards corruption.
Vergil is still Neros father no matter once. If Dante banged fortuna nun instead of Vergil, the resulting kid wouldnt be Nero since Dantes DNA is separate from Vergils.
Oh man what a great video. I very much appreciate that you didn't just state your opinion and actually did some research and deep analysis! Can't wait for part 2
Honestly it's entirely possible that nothing would change, just the justifications. Vergil actually seeing his mom die could be what spurs his quest for power, feeling if only he was strong enough, he could have saved his mom and brother, instead of survival. It could still lead to the events of each game. Dante feeling abandoned being the reason why he's so closed off, angry, dislikes his brother and use comedy as a coping mechanism, could also play into why he doesn't care too much for his father and his lineage.
In my opinion, I don't even think Vergil would have made the Devil May Cry shop at all. I don't think it'd fit his personality up to this point to publicise himself like that. Imagine this hypothetical - vergil would instead operate as a rogue individual, more akin to something like a batman. Operating off of his virtue and love for humanity shown by his mother's sacrifice, Vergil will swoop down and stop demons from hurting people wherever he can. I still think he'd be significantly more calm than Dante would be. Speaking of, Dabte would still construct the Tower of Babel, as a really obnoxious and unmissable symbol to challenge Vergil. However, I do not think he would enlist the help of Arkham at all. On the contrary, I'd imagine him to basically "flip him off" and take everything for himself super early on, leaving Arkham as a wildcard that would appear at random to try pull Vergil into his plan. What I'm saying is, Arkham would still "side" with Vergil regardless of Dante being in control of the Tower. In their first fight, Dante would most likely win, due to his embrace of the Demons power within him. I don't think Dante would let Vergil go however, he'd almost certainly want to "show boat" his performance and gloat about when they were kids and Vergil would lose, perhaps taking pleasure in Vergil being down on the ground, practically defenseless. The one thing that would stay the same here, dante would not kill Vergil, and Vergil will unleash his DT for the first time. In terms of Lady in this scenario, I imagine she would be close on the tail of Vergil in pursuit of Arkham who has accompanied him. Vergil, now slightly bitter with the defeat and the knowledge he too has the demon unleashed would be in complete focus to get back to Dante and finish the sibling dispute. In this way, I'd imagine his viewpoint to be that of Nero's in Devil May Cry 5. He doesn't want to fight any more, he'd just want his brother back. Look no further than V to discover how empathetic Vergil can be. Dante's stubbornness will probably neglect this however, and after defeating arkham, vergil will win their final fight. FROM HERE ON OUT, I do not think the events would pan out the same AT ALL from DMC1 but I do think Vergil would be approached by Trish to head to the location of the first game. Mundus would still be a factor Vergil has to defeat undoubtedly. My biggest question, is would Vergil use firearms like Dante does? Or would dante still be the sole user of firearms?
The thing is Vergil and Dante already have a personality before the incident, Dante was always laidback and Vergil was always serious. Vergil will still search for Power, but not to dominate. But to protect people and to save the innocent (mother). Dante is a wildcard, he might come to hate Demons so bad, he will try to kill all demons while becoming a monster. Because his mother loved him and he loved her, he wouldn't blame the mother, he would blame ALL DEMONS.
Depending on the personality, Dante may or may not actually be a cruel playboy who would do horrible shit if he embraced his demonic side. Maybe having multiple children from multiple women. Would be an interesting dynamic.
@@doleofdolonia8859 Dante could definitely in his journey alone just straight up have multiple people with the sparda blood, but like Nero they could all be dormant, Nero could still be left at the door of an orphanage as a baby, therefore, living the life with Kyrie and credo like before, only his abilities may be different. Possibly inheriting the broken Rebellion for awhile until Dante returns
kelnhide Nero's personality would be totally different, starting for the fact that he would be raised by his biological family, and I like to imagine Vergil as a overprotective and strict father, I totally see Vergil putting Nero on spar at the first time he raised a sword
Would Nero even exist? Think about it. If Vergil had a child with a different woman (because what are the chances he'll meet and hook up with the exact same woman in the canon universe?), would that be Nero? Different mother, different DNA. Also, his name likely wouldn't be Nero. Vergil and the different woman would likely give him a different name. In fact, maybe Vergil would have a daughter instead of a son.
This channel has my two favorite topics: VideoGames and Psychology, I really love your videos and learning about psychological topics from characters I really admire, such as Nero, and really interesting such as Dante and Vergil, I would really like to make my thesis about the flow and how can it manifest in real life.
Why overthinking it?... if they swap they turn into lilo and stitch :,)... Dante by nature the more impulsive manical laughing alien(demon ) trying to destroy shit for fun Virgil the by nature more calm bookworm who deals with his brothers shit and scolding him with "ohana means family" ... :,)
3:09 I always say that person's nature is essentially what he is made of, and the nurture is just giving it the form. It is like having a brilliant and a dirt, you can made them of the same form, but they will be far different.
Wouldn't the definitive answer be Dante is a laid back person who craves power and Virgil a person who's serious loves poetry and Cares deeply about humanity the story is the same Virgil would be more violent of the two but Less cocky and the stronger of the 2 where Dante would fail like Vergil has because he's to overconfident losing to mundus not because he's weak but because he goofs of to much where vergil would continue to grow up but with a slightly more aggressive approach but still carry the same compassion for people
I imagine that their personalities would still be the same with major differences .. For Dante being alone to defend himself will most likely make him embrace his humanity more for seeing how distructive and chaotic demons/his powers can be hence to even fear using it.. For Vergil, he might still seek out power for a different reason.. He felt the guilt of seeing his mother died without doing anything so he goes around to look for more power so that he could protect innocents.. Atleast that's my speculation
The two things I'm most interested in seeing are how/if Nero factors into this and how much will change since they will both still have there respective swords. If Dante is the one to fall to hell at the end of 3 then Yamato never gets shattered by Mundus and thus is never found by The Order of the Sword. Even if you say Rebellion is shattered instead it doesn't have the power to cut through dimensions which means it physically can't re-enter the human world on it's own like fragments of Yamato did.
dante was an extrovert , vergil was an introvert and was very calm so he got yamato the sword with more reponsibility, so i thinnk if their positions were switched, vergil would remain like that but would be more mature, for example he would never be in debt or never be a mercenary in the first place, on the other hand dante would keep his care free personality and became sth like "donte" a kind of guy who would only care for himself and pointless actions
Vergil living Dante's life means the apartment would be cleaned, payed in advance, and have a small library.
You are damn right
True
LOL, could be, he might even have an agency that have an actual system in place and maybe have Lady and Trish working under him? Would be cool to see that hahaha
@@Jay9966 Imagine if/when they get out of the underworld Vergil will work alongside his bro and reorganize the agency into something more efficient/run his own buisness as part of their everlasting rivalry.
@Taramafor Haikido when he pushed Dante xd
This phrase made me recall the dmc4 mod with dante being vergil with yamato and rebellion being gate opener

Well put. I agree with you.
I would love to see Vergil eating some sundaes 🤭

Here’s some nuances I want to mention could happen because of the swap. Could, but not definite:
- Vergil would be found first and hidden in the closet while Dante is playing by himself outside.

Dante reflects the part of Sparda that got sick of doing evil shit. Vergil reflects the part of Sparda that made him the legend.
I like the way you analysis this characters you show that they are not just overpowered characters there also people who have their problems

Dante: *plays Future in my Hands and other modern rock music.*
Vergil: *plays Beethoven and other Renaissance music.*
Love that music in the anime, man. Long live the rock queen!
I feel like Vergil would kill Trish on sight because of stealing his mother's looks as a demon and lying to him. He is less forgiving than Dante.
Ok thats true, Vergil hasnt had any history of killing off non-evil characters. But we have to remember, Trish tried to cheat Dante to kill him. If she done the same to Vergil, that would not have went well.
Vergil will just use hes poetry to rape her perspective
Also i belive vergil can see humanity in other wayy faster than dante so hes more forgiving
Not as kids, Dante was the more “in the moment” one as a boy while Vergil was more thoughtful and compassionate. He may have been able to save her better than Dante did.
@@lordizzadi6981Man I don't think rape was the word you were looking for
In chapter 11 of visions of v when talking to the reflection of Dante V actually stated that they had the same face. So that pretty much states that they are identical twins.
To be fair, they only really looked different in dmc 5
@@jaccblacc8424 Imagine that Dante having a daughter or a son
Here is my take/notes on the "Switched Fate Alternative Universe":
Vergil would hate himself for being to weak to protect his family, but also honour his mother's sacrifice by training to become strong enough to never lose his life to any threat and avoid making her sacrifice in vain.
The fight against Mundus will go on depending of, if the brothers possess the Force Edge and in that story is where Arkham comes into play:
If Arkham manages to convince one of the brothers to unseal the Temen-ni-Gru (If DANTE, than with the promise that the Sparda will make him "The strongest"; If VERGIL, than with insurance that the Force Edge will help him defeat the demons once and for all) and convince the other brother to intervene (If VERGIL, than to stop Dante from causing chaos; If DANTE, than to stop stop Vergil from becoming stronger than him).
This is a big turning point because there are a lot of "What ifs" from here on and they can be summarised in:
"Which brother will win?"
"Will Mundus attack the brothers, while they are weakened?"
"Will the brothers retreat back into the human world?"
"Will Dante stay behind in the Demon World to face Mundus?"
"Will Vergil use his change to defeat Mundus once and for all?"
"Has Dante finally refound attachment to someone else at this point?"
There is also an scenario where Dante decides to stay behind in the Demon World to fight demons for eternity and Vergil mourning this decision in front of Lady and making her say the "Even a Devil may cry" line...
Vergil: Your Pizza eating days are over Dante!
Dante: Make me!
Dante: If you want. **scraping noises** Then you have to take it.
The Reboot. Donte/DMC Reboot Dante is what Dante would be like without his demonic heritage humbling him
If V is the intelligent but weak human version of Vergil, Donte/DMC reboot Dante is like the rebellious but selfish and overly indulgent human version of Dante
Thank you for coming to be TEDtalk
Holy crap you might have a great point there
Dante uses the Yamato to slice a hole in dimensions.
Dante:
Thank you, dead weight.
Dante leaves.
Vergil:
Nero. You need to leave. Now.
Nero-:
Like hell, father. That bastard stole my arm.
Vergil:
You don't understand, my son.
Nero:
What is it? You think I'm weak? You can shove that-
Vergil:
That's not the case, son!
Nero:
What is it then?!
Vergil:
He's my brother!
Nero:
... What?
Vergil:
I suspected as such when I first made contact with him but I didn't think anything about it. I thought he had died when our mother, your grandmother, did. Then he transformed like your grandfather in our last fight. And I was certain. He's your uncle. Now, I need to stop him. But I can't have you hurt in the process.
Vergil walks away.
Nero:
...My uncle?
This is perfect. Though also I can imagine one of Nero's line going instead like this
"Like hell father.
I really really look forward to part 2
I kinda imagine Vergil becoming a heartwarming devil hunter (probably a potential mentor too) if he was switched, hell, even being an actual father to Nero probably
I think good guy Vergil would be a somewhat emotionally distant father. He was always pretty introverted as a kid, so I think he would still have difficulties opening up and connecting with other people. He would mean well, but never quite be there for his family.
Well at the very least he would be there for Nero.
"Part 1"
Oh my. We're in for the long haul, aren't we, Champ?
Edit: "...why Dante... would come close to killing Trish in Devil May Cry 5."
I am concerned.
That could cause Dante being more emotional over Vergil, would boil in rage seeing a demon wich looks exactly like his mother
Mostly likely the mommy issues since this dante would have believed his mother abandoned him and seeing a demon that looks liker her? He would be disgusted.
_I a m c o n c e r n e d ._
Vengence for abandoning him maybe
in my eye it mostlikely wont be like that cuz as far as dante goes to trauma i thingk he know hes mother just a human however the rage is still burning so its posible dante killing trish unless he stoped or no violent happend when they met
Either way I think Vergil would still be better with money then Dante.
Psychologists worldwide should study Dante and vergil thoroughly. They're surprisingly deep

Okay, idk why I'm making this comment here...this clearly makes no sense...
Everyone keeps sending me this and I’m glad they did, it’s cool how you incorporate teaching with content creation. The quality and love put into this was motivating !
What's up Jo
This not about video but wanted to write here
Devils never cry: bless me with your light
Devil trigger: embrace the darkens thats within me
And bury the light as name of song suggest
They all refers humanity as light and demonic side as darkness
bless me with your GIFT of light
See, I (and clearly many more in the comments) feel like it's important to factor in the differences in development each son of sparda had BEFORE the trauma into how they develop afterwards.
Vergil is clearly introverted, loves literature and poetry, and is a calm, reserved person.
Dante is still loud, boorish, energetic, extroverted, and witty.
I don't actually have the time to think on this too much right now (wanted to make this comment before I forgot tbh), but my gut instinct is that:
Dante would probably be a callous, cruel, and cynical a**hole who often mocks others for failing in life, and even mocks people for dying.
Also, Do "What if Nero's mother had never given him to the orphanage?" please. I'd love to see your take on it.
It's a good question, but one I don't think we can answer, given she is a complete unknown.
Nero absorbed the power of the yamato: "i need POWER"
Nero absorbed the power of the rebellion: "Yahoo pizza fun times"
Nero:From that day forth... my arm changed...and a voice echoed... "pizza" "give me more PIZZA!"
Capcom could redo the whole series off this concept alone and it'd be a blast.
nice idea for a sequel. a villain will mess up the past and this will be the result.
Wasn't the reason for Dante and Vergil already having different personalities before their trauma just because Sparda and Eva didn't treat them equally, where both parents were harsher on Vergil while Dante had more leeway fo mess around?
The real question is, would Dante have “Bury the Light” as his theme song
Oh no. That's song is perfect as Vergil's theme, whether he's good or bad. All across the world, horrors of Hell would learn to dread the sight of that silhouette and would know their impending deaths when they heard the words:
"I am vengeance. I am Hell's reckoning. I am the storm that is approaching..."
Nah, taste the blood would be Alternative Dante theme since that song can be use to show Dante is provoking Vergil to fight him
“A phoenix’s ash in dark divine”
“Black clouds in isolation”
“Two souls once lost and now they remember”
“Lost shadows left behind”
These lyrics are WAY too poetic and angsty for any sort of hypothetical Dante. I imagine their theme songs wouldn’t change that much
No, he would still have Subhuman, but evil Dante would be more self hating and cruel.
Champion Analysis: "Now that we have a solid foundation...we can start speculating about the specific lore differences....but in part two"
Me: "Let´s find out which of the fandom theories will be near to be true"
Dante becomes a wandering disaster, and Vergil becomes a refined and wealthy demon hitman.
Nero would probably still exist, but maybe dantes son instead of vergils..so weird to think about lol
Or vergil has 2 child and 2 wife who knows
@@lordizzadi6981 I doubt Vergil would be in polygamous relationships. He’s refined, well mannered and holds himself in pride. Totally opposite of someone who would be in that type of relationship
And on having an ex wife; maybe. That part I also doubt tho. If he valued human traits instead of demon he would prolly work to keep married to lady/trish (prolly lady since trish was modeled by mundus to resemble Eva) if nothing else then for neros sake
Short story: Same persona;Different lifestyle.
Vergil: If our positions were switched, would our fates be different.
C.A.: Yes'nt
10:33 Add enthrallment corruption and soul-separation to that list. Those put some jowls on him.
My man really spent 18 minutes just setting up the ground rules for his analysis only to make us wait for over a month for the next one
Great video though can't wait for the next one I understand how much hard work must go into this so props to you man I do enjoy it
Dante's church massacre in DMC 4 shows how much of a genuine threat to all of us an angry serious Dante would be.
Champion Analysis: "Well actually..."
This video is amazing, great work man!
So strange, lol! xD
*Original Timeline*
Vergil: Foolishness Dante. Foolishness. Might controls everything. And without strength, you cannot protect anything. Let alone yourself.
*Alternate Timeline*
Dante: You really are an idiot Vergil. To be strong is to be free. Without strength, you're just another pawn in someone else's game
Vergil speaks poetically because of his early interests in poetry. He would be a poetic Dante and Dante would be an extreme casual Vergil.
All I know is DMC5 Dante looks way better with vergil hair
Vergil to Trish: "I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT"
i accidentally took a psychology course and i somehow understood it
17:35 "Hey! I was just getting to the good part."
well, it's important to remember that each one of the twins got a very different memento from their father, in the form of Yamato and Rebellion.
Waiting for comments to read
Real question from this video, In this alternate reality... Who is Nero’s Father? And how would this hypothetical situation affect him?
Vergil is still Neros father no matter once. If Dante banged fortuna nun instead of Vergil, the resulting kid wouldnt be Nero since Dantes DNA is separate from Vergils.
Oh man what a great video. I very much appreciate that you didn't just state your opinion and actually did some research and deep analysis!
Can't wait for part 2
Dante is ESTP while Vergil is INTJ, so they are different in nature.
Ngl I wonder what dantes version of v will be like
But I theorize his name will be dan
Dante: embraces his humanity
Vergil: I REJECT MY HUMANITY DANTE!!!!!!
Sono chi no sadame, Dante!
My question is, if Nero shows up is his Dante's kid or is he still Virgil's son?
Depending on the personality, Dante may or may not actually be a cruel playboy who would do horrible shit if he embraced his demonic side. Maybe having multiple children from multiple women. Would be an interesting dynamic.
Nero would still be Vergil's kid, BUT; and that's a big but, he wouldn't be able to meet Kyrie, since Vergil would be overprotective of Nero.
@@doleofdolonia8859 Dante could definitely in his journey alone just straight up have multiple people with the sparda blood, but like Nero they could all be dormant,
Nero could still be left at the door of an orphanage as a baby, therefore, living the life with Kyrie and credo like before, only his abilities may be different.
Dante by nature the more impulsive manical laughing alien(demon ) trying to destroy shit for fun
Virgil the by nature more calm bookworm who deals with his brothers shit and scolding him with "ohana means family" ... :,)
This is my favorite current videogame analysis channel. Keep it up!
3:09 I always say that person's nature is essentially what he is made of, and the nurture is just giving it the form. It is like having a brilliant and a dirt, you can made them of the same form, but they will be far different.
Wouldn't the definitive answer be Dante is a laid back person who craves power and Virgil a person who's serious loves poetry and Cares deeply about humanity the story is the same Virgil would be more violent of the two but Less cocky and the stronger of the 2 where Dante would fail like Vergil has because he's to overconfident losing to mundus not because he's weak but because he goofs of to much where vergil would continue to grow up but with a slightly more aggressive approach but still carry the same compassion for people
*Gets motivaded when sees video*
part one
*screams internally*
anyway, your analyses are always a blast, dude. I'm motivated to wait for part two. :'v
