Great video bro although one thing to mention is that you said Nero is 18-19 presently which when you think about that doesn’t make a lot of sense unless he was like 8 in Dmc4 and it’s mentioned that a few years (non specific time frame but if I had to guess 8-10 years) passed since Dmc4😅
Characters I would recommend doing a video like this on. Gabriel Belmont from castevania or Dante from Dante's inferno or Prince of Persia or possibly doomguy That our it be cool to see a video for Virgil and Nero
@@ChampionAnalysis Me: replace insecurities with deadweight on Nero is very fine literature skill Sting has Nero: Did someone said DEADWEIGHT!!!!! Me: OH SHIT! He's devilishly trigged. Nero: FUCK YOU!!!!!! (devil explosion)
There’s a line in the anime, when he’s hired to kill the devil Bradley, that says it really well for Dante’s character; “sorry sir I can’t complete your request. I can’t fight anything that’s not demon. I don’t see a demon here”. He says this after seeing Bradley concerned about his lovers father and is healing him. He doesn’t see a devil when a devil shows compassion. He sees it as a solely human trait.
Maybe. I remember one of the LN or Manga implying that Dante was and after a fashion still is a death seeker. He's a guy that after his trauma wanted to lie down and die, that's part of his reason for always looking for bigger and badder opponents and his recklessness, but eventually he came to realize that there are other things and other people to love in the world and so he's grown beyond his initial reaction which was the reflection of Vergil's desire to cling to life no matter the consequences and seek power so as to never feel the way he felt then ever again.
This was perfectly reflected in an episode of the anime "Not Love" where dante is hired to kill a demon, only to discover this demon has fallen in love with a human. So dante rejects the hit, and protects the demon and his gf while they leave town. You can sort of see it on his face when he realises the situation he's facing, that he relates this to his own heritage
The moment Dante absorbed his fathers sword, the moment he became Sparda's successor. He went from orphan, to street thug, to mercinary, to shop owner, to devil hunter, legendary devil hunter, to legendary dark knight. He really came a long way, vergil was just dead for a while lol
Ambitionary perfect time for a Dante/Vergil DLC where their actually working together not as opposing sides it would make for an even more perfect ending to their ark if they killed Mundus together officially putting their troubled pasts behind them and moving forward as a family as one :)
@@UnifiedEntity but the thing is Mundus ate the same fruit as Urizen to become that strong, and Dante absorbed his father's sword to become as strong as he was. So right now Vergil and Dante are right on par with Mundus using their very own individual strength that they worked hard to achieve.
To be honest.. Vergil beats Dante once in DMC 3 (Top of the tower) and once in DMC 5 (right after his revival). Dante beats Vergil twice *as Vergil remembers*, since he forgot the whole Nelo Angelo fights (Portal in DMC 3 and Demon World in DMC 5, battle at the Qliphot was a tie as we see it). Ergo, as far as Vergil remembers its literally 2-2, theyre *even.* But Dante remembers the fights as Nelo Angelo, knowing that hes up in wins.
I love that Dante falls back to his demonic nature due to sheer ignorance of what a "real human" is. What I mean by that, is that you should compare how he acts with how Nero acts. Dante knows (maybe actively, maybe subconsciously) that he's a demon and basically unkillable. Nero on the other hand, while also being demon blooded, grew up as a human. So Nero naturally tries to avoid getting impaled by a giant sword, Dante just goes "here we go again".
The reason why Nero just avoid being stab because his healing factor is not good as twins. Unawakened Dante get stabbed by multiple scytes in DMC 3 and nothing happen, while Nero dying when Agnus and Angelo's stab him.
@@sulthanarya3281 uhmm what? I'm pretty sure that he regenerated his arm back because nico stated that he "regrows it" and it's not really that his healing factor is bad it's actually comparable to dante and vergil it's only he doesn't like it just like vergil we barely see vergil getting shot or stabbed unlike dante who allows it all the time
Ironically enough, Dante's humanity (and even Vergil's, to some extent) is also responsible for their flaws. Whereas Vergil's fear and jealously led to him wanting more power, Dante's obsession with Vergil blinded him. He was convinced killing Vergil was the ONLY solution, only for Nero to prove him wrong. There's no doubt in my mind Dante intentionally overplayed his injury after Nero bitch-slapped him. At this point, he realized his error and realized Nero was the only one who could end this battle and REACH Vergil. I got very emotional when Dante chose to stay by Vergil's side at the end of DMC5, BTW. It's the ultimate resolution for BOTH characters. Because of Nero, Dante no longer has to leave Vergil behind (which was the source of Vergil's fear/anger). Vergil also changes - he no longer pushes Dante away. Hell, the man smiles when he tells Dante they got all the time in the world together now. Personally, I'm excited by this change of events. I want to see how their relationship unfolds from that point on. If Dante's motivation to fight comes from family-related ties, then him having his brother back (and a nephew he can officially confirm now) must surely have an impact on his way of thinking and career as a devil hunter. Conversely, if Vergil's desire for power came from a place of wanting to be protected and loved, then imagine how much his views will change now that he has someone he could protect and love.
RadiusZero- Wow this is really well said and it makes the ending have so much more impact! Imagine a future title where Vergil, Dante and Nero can finally work together as a family! Whoever the future villain of the series is better watch out for that powerhouse team!
Aye thank you for that :D I've been trying to have some sort of consistency with my uploads recently. I want to analyze Vergil next, but I don't have an exact date for that yet. For now I have other videos on different games if you'd like to check them out :D
I've never been big into DMC but I'm finally diving into the lore, and Wacky Woohoo Pizza Man is my preferred name for Dante, but I don't even get it lol
I think the reason Dante doesn’t have children is because the thought of them experiencing a life like his is too painful. He has shown that he cares deeply for Nero even if it seems distant. One of his main goals was to keep Nero away from Vergil and from getting hurt.
Sparda wasn't necessarily a bad dad. The situation with his disappearance is pretty muddy. It's more likely than not that Sparda went to fight Mundus and never made it out of Hell. Given how he's characterized, I doubt that he just abandoned his family.
@@demi-femme4821 True, true. Making Sparda to be a bad dad would... kill all of the sense of his character. His character is literally a demon WAKING UP to justice, it wouldn't make sense for him to abandon his family out of the blue.
Notice at 8:20 that Agnus doesn't ask "What is it that humans have?" but, rather, "What is it that demons lack?". I think that angered Dante. That all he (Agnus) had been writing wasn't to grow into a better human but a stronger and less human demon. Just my speculation though
Great analysis. I've always believed that the Devil May Cry games have better stories than they are usually given credit. Another thing to about Dante is that initially he didn't care about his demonic heritage but with each game he grows to respect his fathers legacy and heritage. Not a full embrace like Vergil did but a growing respect. (Spoilers for DMC5) 5 also brings this full circle by having Vergil finally learn to respect his human heritage through his experience as V.
I believe that is one of the reasons why their rivalry seems less intense by the end of the game. The both of them fought on a ideological level too (V's whole thing about fighting for their justice). I believe they have more of an appreciation for each other's perspective (this assuming V's appreciation for his humanity returned to Vergil when he fused). I also get the feeling that they both are secretly happy to have each other again at the end of the game after Nero beat some sense into Vergil lol this is more to go into for the Vergil analysis coming up. Feel free to subscribe for when I upload that one :D
I think the reason is because, in DMC1, the story is pretty mediocre. Trish is not developed enough for her betrayal to mean much, it's quite melodramatic, and Dante comes off as cheesy rather than witty. It's a testament to Itsuno and the writing staff to take a cheesy action game and make it a deep and character driven story.
DMC has the same problem that God of war has always had The story is incredible, but buried deep because of the reason people play them (The Stylish/Brutal Combat)
@@ChampionAnalysis i might have read to much into this (and it's been about a year since I've played) V seems to mildly remember a lust for demonic power. Like a ghost of a memory of what the power he had gained as a whole entity had done.
You might be happy to know that in the Agnus scene, Dante IS referring to compassion. It’s stated by Nero when the defeated Sanctus Dioblica cried out to the sword of Sparda, asking if he’s not worthy to wield the power. “I never payed attention to those sermons, but I DO know that Sparda had a heart. A heart to love another person. A HUMAN. And that is what you lack!” -Nero to Sanctus.
Spot on analysis. Dante with all his power he could live like a king if he wanted but chose not to because of his humanity, he got a heart of gold. That's why Dante is best boy.
Considering that his clothes merges into his skin in devil trigger, maybe his demonic powers also affects his clothes to self repair so it remains intact all the time, like how Trish could spawn her outfit immediately after being saved from Cavalier Angelo shell
Dmc3 both contradicts and confirms this, he loses a sleve in the first vergil fight, but getting stabbed in the stomach in literally the same cutscene didn't do anything to the backside of his coat
One detail to reforce the point of Dante being so concerne about his family: In DMC4, other reason for what he does is because of Nero. He literally says he had the feeling of Nero being Vergil's son, and he confirmed it after seen how Yamato reacted to Nero.
I'm confident that after dmc3, Dante would still try to save the world if he knew it was in serious danger. He shows clear compassion towards struggling humans. Especially in the animated series.
Urizen: "How? How are you so powerful? You've never lost anything." Dante: "It's not about loss, strength is a choice, fighting like hell to protect what's important. You threw away everything you've ever had, no wonder you have no true power!" Urizen: "DANTE!" Dante is one of the best characters in gaming
I think Nero's rapidly growing strength is the perfect punctuation of Dante's beliefs about humanity. A being genetically less demon and more human than him and showing so much unfiltered emotion being able to be on par with a much older, wiser and a whole form more demonically evolved Vergil.
One moment from the anime I like pointing to is episode 4 when Dante is moments away from Belphegor being free to escape into the human world and he jumps right in there to shove it's stupid face back through the gate. He could probably get a really good fight at taking on yet another demon lord but knows it might be something powerful enough that he can't guarantee the safety of the city. Despite being perpetually bored and disinterested in that series, he still puts the lives of humans ahead of his own excitement if he can.
I think its Episode 3 btw. Episode 4 is where Lady and Trish first met. But yeah, i really like that episode overall. Since this is probably the first time that Dante actually denies a mission simply because the demon he wanted to kill become very human. Usually he denies missions because either he's too lazy or just generally not interested until someone said demons.
Despite being a very human individual, he does have this innate thirst for battle from way back when he was fighting with Vergil. Despite being in pain after losing his brother to the demon world, he suddenly revels in slaughtering more demons when they show up. "This is what I live for. I'm absolutely crazy about it!" So fighting demons is not only a personal mission, but also a pastime and outlet. When Dante and Vergil head to the Underworld to seal the portal and all is said and done, they're just dukin' it out having fun beating the shit out of each other. Not for any grand reason anymore, but simply to settle a score and have time as brothers in the best way they know how.
Could it be that part of Dante blames Vergil for their mother's death? "The thing you don't know is, she tried to save you, too. She kept searching and searching... Until it killed her." Fleshing out this pivotal moment in their life really added so much to their rivalry and it feels much better now. Let's just say that in DMC 3 they were both too young to understand why they hate each other so much. What do you think of the moment Dante just rushes to fight Vergil when he shows up for the first time while he takes his time to talk to Urizen? It's an interesting thing to discuss. Some people have criticized it as bad writing but I think there might be something more to it. Anyway, nice video. :)
Thank you for watching :D I do have a Vergil video planned so please feel free to subscribe for when that comes out. I'm thinking of speeding the production on that one since this one did so well compared to my other videos. As for that Urizen moment, I think the setting was emotionally triggering for Dante since it was their home. Dante acts so cool and aloof, like nothing bothers him, but I bet he did feel something overcome him a little. Making him talk about that time to Urizen, who he thought was just Vergil still at the time (while keeping his aloof persona up of course). That's what I think anyway. It is an interesting encounter since in DMC 3 they were just filled with so much angst rather than actually trying to talk about that day. Even Vergil started to think about that day to himself more while he was at the top of the Qliphoth.
@@ChampionAnalysis And the other weird thing about that scene is he just lets V finish off Urizen. The only way I can justify that moment is if, again, some part of him knew who V was all along and wanted to see real Vergil back. That reminds me of another inconsistency. Before Dante stabs himself with Rebellion he knows that Yamato has power to separate demon from human which would imply that he knows about what happened to Vergil. But, he wasn't around when V told this story to Trish. I avoid to read into things but I think this story has depth and it really pisses me off when most of the journos discount it as silly B action movie schlock. P.S. I don't think you should rush your next video because it will not necessarily translate into views/subs if you make it quicker. Just do your best to make a quality content and good luck. :)
I don't think Dante blames Vergil for their mother's death. I took it as Dante telling his brother that he was loved too that's why/how she died. I think Vergil held some animosity towards Dante because he believed Eva picked favorites, that's probably why he wondered about how his life would be if their places switched.
I love the parallel between Dante and Vergil in the scene where they are stabbing themselves, Vergil wanting more power sees his human side as his weakness and uses Yamato so separate human from demon ... all while facing away from his family portrait. Meanwhile Dante embraces his demonic powers looking at the same family portrait.
This is why the original DMC games & Dante are far better than the political & edgylord reboot from ninja theory! Also great video btw I'm glad RUclips recommended your page!
I whole heartedly agree lol the reboot was boring to me. And thank you for watching :D feel free to subscribe for when I do Vergil in the next couple of weeks
@Andrew Whiting agree! The only thing I actually really liked in the reboot is the platforming, the combat is alright but compare to the original games especially dmc3, 4, & 5 it's a bit shallow
America's Demon Hunter: Emotionless badass, fueled with nothing but vengeance and testosterone Japan's Demon Hunter: a powerful yet human demon and someone who understands the importance of human compassion
@Andrew Whiting He's comparing who MADE the characters... Japanese people created the OG Dante (Hideki Kamiya) while Capcom pushed for an Americanized version of Dante in the DmC Devil May Cry Reboot. So do YOU know what you're talking about?
The anime is actually something that gives insight into how he projects a false persona of a Devil May Care while going out of his way to help patty and even spare her from the sight of bloodshed and violence even though that wasn’t at all a part of his contract
@@arthurgoes1994 do you now see the parallels to Christianity and Jesus?? satan rules this world including the gaming industry.. everything happens for a reason so
Sweet video man. The series deserves more credit then it gets with the story. Sure, it’s corny as all hell, but it’s all there. The anime sheds a lot of light onto his humanity as well because of how it shows him depressed. Aimless, bored, and destitute, he only comes alive when he’s embracing his demonic heritage and slaying creatures. Characters like Patty help to break that vicious self destructive pattern. He keeps making himself into a loner but the reality is that he *needs* company otherwise he goes into a downward spiral. Trish even has this scathing motherly comment about how he is eating waaaaay too much pizza. He’s a seemingly simple character but because everything around that character ties in so strongly he becomes a lot deeper than many give him credit for. Either way, sweet vid man.
It's pretty great, and it's surmised in his theme Subhuman, the songs lyrics describe Dante pretty much fighting his inner demon so that it won't get loose, and the only thing stopping it is the things he experienced and went through growing up with his mother and family life being destroyed by mundus and his legions, as well as Vergil disappearing for nearly 20 years before the events of DMC 3, and having him embrace his demonic heritage, however, in order to protect an save the ones he loves and holds dear, Dante needs to unleash the very devil in him to do just that. Say what you will about Subhuman, but it diffently fits Dante pretty well, it kind of shows how human Dante really is.
Ah finally. Found a good friend who enjoys Subhuman like i do. I enjoy the music because how...METAL it is. But the fact you go as far as analyzing the lyrics, i salute you dude.
@@lucaswibisono1316 I enjoy the song a lot too, while I have 100% respect for devils never cry and all of Dante's other songs.. people forget Dante loves metal lol
I think there's one thing you didn't mention, which is especially emphasised in DMC2. Dante has accepted that hunting demons is his purpose, he is carrying on his father's mission of protecting humanity, but for personal reasons highlighted in this video. At least, that's what I think, it does fit very well thematically for his character.
Until DMC 3, Dante denied his demonic side to some extent, while Vergil embraced it. Vergil thinks that their mother died because she was too weak. Dante knows that their mother was strong, brave and caring. Thus, their character traits. Man, I love this franchise so fucking much.
Thank you for explaining this for me, Dante isn't one of my favorite characters. He IS my favorite character of all time. This video does a lot for me, thank you
I'm not sure if you mentioned this, but in the comics and novels, Dante feels bad for others who get caught up in demonic attacks. I don't recall the name, but a person lost their arm due to a devil attack that Dante was completely unrelated with. He still, to this day, sends the guy money, and is one of the reasons for his chronic lack of funds. Hell, Dante usually won't even take payment from people if he thinks they can't pay it, or even just take a very small amount.
While this video was pretty stellar, I have to say that neglecting DMC2 (despite how most feels about the game itself) is kinda unbecoming. Seeing Dante dark and brooding because he had once again is the cause of his brother demise. Dante shows some genuinely human moments and his cold storic personality greatly reflects off of Lucia's who is a demon who thought she was human her entire life. The same aloof attitude Dante had in 2 carried on in 4, but he was most def more cheerful once he found out his brother's momentos (Yamato and Nero) was the center of attention.
I couldn't have explained it better myself. This is such a beautiful video about Dante and it deserves more views, It really goes to show how "deep" this character is despite his goofy yet super cool nature.
Thank you :D it's easy for people to be distracted with the flashy action to notice DMC's writing. Feel free to subscribe for when I tackled vergil next ;D
I was never under the impression that Dante isn't a righteous person. From what I recall of a interview with Hideki Kamiya he wanted him to be the "Clean Cut hero" I believe. Which would explain why he's so different in personality in that game writing wise
Nah, he wasn't very righteous even in 1. Only reason he took Trish's job was because she looked like Eva, and this is consistent with the DMC novel by Goikeda (overlooked and vetted by Kamiya), where he is almost completely driven by his need to avenge his family. Dante's second battle theme from DMC3 (Divine Hate) has a reference to the novel in the lyrics ("from the angst of lost memories, a just revenge to cure misery"), and DMC5: Before the Nightmare flat out canonizes nearly every part of it.
@@MILDMONSTER1234 🤔 Not sure why. It's an organic progression from 3 to 1 to 4 (fuck 2, we see next to nothing in progression terms). Everything was tied together (novel volume 1 included) in the DMC5 Prequel Novel. If you're saying Dante would've been radically different if Kamiya had continued, then that's conjecture, and we'll never really know.
8:26 EXACTLY dude! Compassion for others is exactly why Sparda's bloodline is so powerful. The Dark Knight himself became sympathetic to humanity. Even if he was only Mundus' general in the beginning, once he gained that compassion, he was able to overpower him and seal the Hell Gates. Dante, as half a human, has more compassion than a normal demon ever could. With Rebellion in hand, he was able to unite the compassion of his human half with the destructive power of his demon half to unlock his Sin Devil Trigger. Nero, even more human than his uncle, regrew his whole ass arm through the power of him wanting to keep his family intact, and then singlehandedly overpowered both of the twins.
Its a great video, and though I do disagree with how you framed Dante's motivations as for me the idea of familiy ties being his main reason for persuing world threats I think that only really applies to his DMC 3 self. Beyond that your editing was great and I enjoyed your writing quite a bit. Meeting Lady really was the moment where he really started to become the legendary devil hunter Dante and failing to help Vergil no doubt left a parmanent mark of guilt on him. Good stuff.
Hey thank you for watching :D and I appreciate that you simply disagree but in a respectful way. I do agree that not stopping Vergil must've definitely left some unresolved conflict in himself. I plan on having a vergil analysis done in the next couple of weeks. Feel free to subscribe to check it out and let me know what you think of that one :D
I'm so glad it was :D This particular video is gaining more attention compared to my other videos for some reason, but I'm not complaining :D Thank you for watching and the sub
Another interesting point is that after the events of DMC 3, for some time at least, Dante actively dehumanized himself. He refused to let himself be the human he is. "Are you crying?" "Its only the rain." "The rain already stopped..." *"Devils never cry."* Then in DMC 1, he reinforces that statement, but including himself as human. "Devils Never Cry...tears...are a gift only humans have." And in the DMC Anime, he refuses to kill a demon posing as a human after that demon shows compassion and kindness for the human race, saying "Sorry, I cant kill anything that isn't a demon, and I don't see any demons here." Defeating and abandoning Vergil in the Demon World really fucks with him it seems.
One major flaw in your analysis: Dante is involved in all kinds of demonic events, be it family or just in general. He's a professional demon hunter ffs. The games just choose to tell the story of his family because they're key events in his character development. In DMC3 Dante didn't give a shit about his family, but it's until he met Lady he realized why it's important, and began to actually care for his brother. The anime miniseries explores his life outside of his family fights. Family is an important theme in the games but the heart of the whole franchise is about humanity.
When Team Ninja tried to make their "Dante" more badass by stripping away his human half and making him part angel and part demon that was probably the peak of not getting the point. It showed right out of the gate they had no idea what they were working from.
I don't think Dante being motivated by his family means he's not a hero. Peter Parker is motivated by Uncle Ben and the hand he had in his death, but he's totally a hero. Plus neither Dante nor Spider-Man have a habit of doing big soapboxes about justice and all that. His conversation with V in 5 as well as the anime imply that he's done plenty of big jobs that didn't involve his family. He's clearly not devil hunting just to survive either, given the state the shop is in in 5.
Honestly one of the biggest Ironies we get to see about Dante, is by discarding the power the Demon Sword Sparda could grant him, he gained the same strength his father held because of the Demon Sword Dante.
If you look closely when Dante activates any of his Devil Triggers, he's Aura it's (Bright Red) for embracing his Humanity, while Vergil Aura on the other hand it's a (Dark Blue) for embracing his Demon side. Cool little detail.
Man I wish you continued playing that cutscene from DMC 1 it was really emotional af, plus you forgot that episode of DMC animated series when he retuned the ring he got as a payment to the guy that her client (his sister) asked him to save because it’s the only thing that he has of her late sister and said “your sister doesn’t resent you”.
It's also worth mentioning that Sparda wasn't like other demons. Even he had something that others don't. A quality generally expressed among humans. I'm sure you can guess what that is. The very reason he started a family, and the very reason his twin sons exist.
3:50 But Dante is hero *and* did heroic acts. Dante in DMC3 has started off bitter, no care for anything and living for the sake of living. But he developed towards the end of the game. Even if we put aside the literary definition of a hero (the main character in a literary work), family is a grand value, it's worth fighting for. Heroic doesn't just mean fighting for something abstract like greater good, justice. It means sacrificing yourself, taking a responsibility for something greater than yourself.
Video is crafted well, but I feel like it sorta misrepresents Dante. Dante is more than willing to help people out for no benefit to himself. In the anime, he takes on multiple jobs for no pay. When someone has a demonic issue, and they are too poor to pay, he takes on the job anyway. Dante is also shown just staying in contact with clients after a job is done. He even saves the world from a demon with absolutely no connection to his family, and takes care of an orphan with no tie to his family In the dmc5 novel, dante is revealed to be so poor because he sends money to a family who lost their father, who he use to work with. The games are so closely tied to his family that it might be hard to separate his kindness from his family, but dmc3 makes it clear that dante awakens to a deep love for humanity in general. His family's involvement is *definitely a factor* and dante definitely values his family heavily, but his family is not his sole motivation to save the world
Dante is super interesting. Him and Yu Narukami rank as my top protagonists. Dante is a neutral character it seems by his actions. He doesnt give a shit about justice it seems more like his own selfish motives. At least at first. Then it comes to dmc3s events (the first in the series timeline) and he begins to embrace his family. His father. Until the end he never once said "my father". Seeing Lady really hit with him. The more he interacted with her he gained love. Not romantic but to his family. And to humans. He then began to realize what he wanted. And how to empathize. Thats when he really began to embrace his humanity. And he began to gain power. And for the first time actually beat vergil. It was accepting that that makes him superior. Hes going with what he finds fun. Less serious than he was at the start of dmc3. Its a sign of his growth. Even after all his growth tho he never once decides to be a justice seeker. He has nothing to prove. But he is willing to help those who ask for his help. Which is literally the purpose behind his shop. And why imo his shop is the biggest testament how hes more human than demon. Its a place for help. Something he never got. The feeling of helplessness he had when his mother was murdered carried with him. And he used it to empathize with a collective people.
Though Nero was smart enough to see the answer both Dante and Vergil ever failed to see, I'd say Nero grows by this more than we'd ever expect from him as a character, in 5 so much proper development and polish were given to these classic characters by refining them or bringing them back into the fray with some twists. All in all DmC 5 is fucking amazing I love that they rebooted it. Yes DmC. 5. the fifth game in the series.ninja theory. Yup. that's what I'm praising. I love it and you should too! Serious thouh V is a great game I'm glad I'm addicted to dmc again like i was back in the 3rd gayme
Man this video is incredible! Dante is my favorite video game character and you opened my eyes to more about him than almost any other channel I've seen that talk about Dante. You just got yourself a new subscriber!
*As I've been a fan of DMC since mid 2001,when I was 11, I just came here to hear what I already know.* Also finally beat Bloody Palace with Dante on 5 and I agree, what Virgil lacks is heart! Also, I still hate Dmc2 just as much as Capcom does, and after 3 came out I knew for sure that 2 was barely canon. It got like 2 second of images and like no mention in the DMC5: History it DMC. I mean Dante saw caring and compassion as his life was destroyed, Virgil saw loneliness and weakness as he was helpless to do anything and probably felt abandoned, made very known when Dante told him their mom tried to save him too. (How did Dante successfully hide in a wooden cabinet during a mansion fire?!)
NoFriendZ JustAname ikr? And their house was still perfectly intact when Vergil walked in and stabbed himself. It's only ruined after the Qliphoth grew. Like, did someone repaired the house? Demonic power?
I have a thought, it involes Dante's shop itself devil may cry i don't know if anyone else though of this but the shop itself may have a symbolic value besides the fact of how character's question if devils cry since dante cried for Vergil. It could rather be a symbol for the series as a whole as we constanly see Dante in debt only ever seeming "to find a job" when a game comes out. A good example is DMC5 as we see the shop with the lights out and Dante just sleeping in it as he hasn't had a job in a while, which could be seen as how we ourselves have not had a game in years. Which could indicate that while Dante gets "jobs to keep the lights running" we get "games to keep the series running". Just an interesting idea I had.
I know you've read the novel (because it is considered Canon although timeline is a little unclear now) but you get an even closer look at Dante as a person and his interpersonal relationships with other people. It's really nice and basically a direct psychological analysis of him as a person, and why he treats others the way he does.
Pretty solid take on Dante. I especially liked your point on the significance of him leaving behind devil sword sparda in DMC1. I never considered that.

Plugged this in a few Discord servers hopefully you'll get more of a following, would like to see this type of stuff more often not many people know the niche ideas portrayed in the DMC series so thank you!

Thank you so much :D I'm glad RUclips is helping me out a bit for a change too lol Feel free to subscribe and ring the bell icon for when I tackled Vergil next :D In the meantime I have vids on other games too if you'd like to check them out
It's also interesting to note that in DMC verse, a demon's name reveals the nature of their power. "Mundus" can be translated as "World", which explains why he is able to create alternate universes with ease, and why he seeks to rule the worlds that do exist. By that same logic, "Dante", a name taken from thee Italian poet, and the titular character of said poet's epic, refers to the nature of Dante: "To walk through darkness, unscathed". It is why he is able to wield godlike power without succumbing to temptation or his own darker desires. Because that is his nature.

Dante is balanced, he loves hunting demons and being powerful, but he also values and loves humanity, he embraces both sides demonic and human.
Yep correct
Our boy is as much of a living legend as his father was at this point yo
The only way he can surpass Sparda is by actually killing Mundus, and not just dealing him away
Ambitionary perfect time for a Dante/Vergil DLC where their actually working together not as opposing sides it would make for an even more perfect ending to their ark if they killed Mundus together officially putting their troubled pasts behind them and moving forward as a family as one :)
@@ambitionary2048 Well he basically beat Urizen who we know is stronger than Mundus. Pretty sure Dante long surpassed him.
@@UnifiedEntity but the thing is Mundus ate the same fruit as Urizen to become that strong, and Dante absorbed his father's sword to become as strong as he was. So right now Vergil and Dante are right on par with Mundus using their very own individual strength that they worked hard to achieve.

Dante: *Beats Vergil*
Vergil: Nope, that's not cannon
"Score for Dante! I'm up one!"
"When did you learn to count? We're even!"
Ergo, as far as Vergil remembers its literally 2-2, theyre *even.*
But Dante remembers the fights as Nelo Angelo, knowing that hes up in wins.
Sulthan Arya and I’m pretty sure he was unaware that he’s part demon soooooo
@@sulthanarya3281 Nero can regrow body parts, his healing factor is no joke, i doubt being stabbed a million times would kill him.
@@tatocezar1 thats not even real arm, is just manifestation of his demonic power.
Makes sense

I think the reason Dante doesn’t have children is because the thought of them experiencing a life like his is too painful. He has shown that he cares deeply for Nero even if it seems distant. One of his main goals was to keep Nero away from Vergil and from getting hurt.
Except Dante would be a very good father unlike Vergil and Sparda
This really reminds me of Goku and Vegeta
DMC has the same problem that God of war has always had
The story is incredible, but buried deep because of the reason people play them (The Stylish/Brutal Combat)
And it's pretty telling that Vergil is way stronger than Urizen.
Spot on analysis. Dante with all his power he could live like a king if he wanted but chose not to because of his humanity, he got a heart of gold. That's why Dante is best boy.
All because of his mother figures. Eva and Nell Goldstein
Omg yes❤
Considering that his clothes merges into his skin in devil trigger, maybe his demonic powers also affects his clothes to self repair so it remains intact all the time, like how Trish could spawn her outfit immediately after being saved from Cavalier Angelo shell
No wonder his jackets are so other worldly cool :o
I like to think their clothes made from demon as well.
I mean in 4, you can see his coat burning after sitting on Berial's tail, and yet its still look fine.
Unless he tears a part of his coat yeah it's indestructible with his demonic powers
You're right! :o I actually missed the chance to include that too. Nice one :D
I'm confident that after dmc3, Dante would still try to save the world if he knew it was in serious danger. He shows clear compassion towards struggling humans. Especially in the animated series.
Urizen: "How? How are you so powerful? You've never lost anything."
Dante: "It's not about loss, strength is a choice, fighting like hell to protect what's important. You threw away everything you've ever had, no wonder you have no true power!"
Urizen: "DANTE!"
Dante is one of the best characters in gaming

Damn, you right. Just don't tell the others yo. I need every minute of those views broski ;D
I think Nero's rapidly growing strength is the perfect punctuation of Dante's beliefs about humanity. A being genetically less demon and more human than him and showing so much unfiltered emotion being able to be on par with a much older, wiser and a whole form more demonically evolved Vergil.
I never made that connection :o that's a pretty solid point. Very nice :D

This is a top tier analysis. Waiting for Vergil
Big thanks :D I'm trying to shoot for next week with that video.
@@scribble71891 that would certainly contribute to the development of an inferiority complex in Vergil.
@@scribble71891 Or maybe both things are right. :D
Y'know... all of their conflicts could be vaguely summed up with "Dante refused to embrace his demonic heritage, and Vergil, his human one"

This video does a lot for me, thank you
Thank you so much for watching :D I'm glad you enjoyed it. Dante unites us all here huh lol feel free to subscribe for when I analyze Vergil next ;D
This is such a beautiful video about Dante and it deserves more views,
It really goes to show how "deep" this character is despite his goofy yet super cool nature.

Dante even said to urizen "after all this years you still don't get it."
And in the last fight with urizen he calls his path of power useless shit
I was never under the impression that Dante isn't a righteous person. From what I recall of a interview with Hideki Kamiya he wanted him to be the "Clean Cut hero" I believe. Which would explain why he's so different in personality in that game writing wise
Dante definitely isn't very on the nose about his righteousness as traditional heroic characters are.

Good stuff.

Another interesting point is that after the events of DMC 3, for some time at least, Dante actively dehumanized himself. He refused to let himself be the human he is.
"Are you crying?"
"Its only the rain."
"The rain already stopped..."
*"Devils never cry."*
Then in DMC 1, he reinforces that statement, but including himself as human.
"Devils Never Cry...tears...are a gift only humans have."
And in the DMC Anime, he refuses to kill a demon posing as a human after that demon shows compassion and kindness for the human race, saying "Sorry, I cant kill anything that isn't a demon, and I don't see any demons here."
Defeating and abandoning Vergil in the Demon World really fucks with him it seems.
I did not like that change either to be honest. Dante being half human snd completely owning it is what gave him so much charm
Dante is coolest video character of all time.
Dante puts value on family in general
THIS!!!
is why fans hated Donte of DmC Devil may Cry
But this has absolutely nothing to do with that at all
JDottDees Tv nice try to try n justify your shitty taste lmaoo
@@bugeye8749 Ah, internet, where you can't have an opinion or it's shit taste.
Accept it, DmC is fun, just play it in Spanish, it's funnier.
lol someone did it before me. I'm glad, felt confused nobody analyzed or mentioned dante's great indirect characterization in this game. thanks!
Hey man nothing says you can't do you're take on Dante too :D and thank you for watching. Feel free to subscribe for when I do Vergil next
Loved it dude! Dante is one of favorite video game characters as well
Honestly one of the biggest Ironies we get to see about Dante, is by discarding the power the Demon Sword Sparda could grant him, he gained the same strength his father held because of the Demon Sword Dante.
I mean his SDT finishing move, Judgement has a lot of DMC1 references in it lol.
Im talking about the animation btw.
We can learn a lot between Virgil and Dante in these DMC games. The lost of almost anything can be worse than death. Good video, Champ.
LOL at the caption at 11:00 "Even a devil made private he was drunk" HA!
The gold that is auto generated captions lol
If you look closely when Dante activates any of his Devil Triggers, he's Aura it's (Bright Red) for embracing his Humanity, while Vergil Aura on the other hand it's a (Dark Blue) for embracing his Demon side. Cool little detail.
Thank you for creating this video. Been hell of a great listen.
TBH youtube finally give a classy recommendation. nice work man
It's also worth mentioning that Sparda wasn't like other demons. Even he had something that others don't. A quality generally expressed among humans. I'm sure you can guess what that is. The very reason he started a family, and the very reason his twin sons exist.
damn i never noticed the parallel between lady and dante both saying their soul is calling out to stop arkham/vergil
Dante so OP he can summon spotlight just by dancing.
Dante doesn't need to seek power because of "ROYAL GUARD"
As was said in another recent capcom title:
“Around here, Family is a righteous cause…”
He even saves the world from a demon with absolutely no connection to his family, and takes care of an orphan with no tie to his family
In the dmc5 novel, dante is revealed to be so poor because he sends money to a family who lost their father, who he use to work with.
The games are so closely tied to his family that it might be hard to separate his kindness from his family, but dmc3 makes it clear that dante awakens to a deep love for humanity in general.
His family's involvement is *definitely a factor* and dante definitely values his family heavily, but his family is not his sole motivation to save the world
Loved this Dante post. Good stuff man
Dante is super interesting.
Dante was around 20 when he fought with Vergil, and Nero is 22 in DMC5. So he is even ahead. Very nice job btw! ;))))
"He does it because he cares Nero" left me laughing haha xD, love your videos keep it up!
Loved this! Looking forward to seeing your videos on Vergil and Nero (the good boi).
Thank you for watching :D feel free to subscribe for when I do upload those videos and in the mean time I got videos on other games too :D
@@ChampionAnalysis Will do, my good man!
Very good video man, you did a great job. Dante is one of my favorite characters as well. I totally share your opinion about him.
Not gonna lie these have COMPLETELY changed the way I see and think about Dante and the DMC Series Entirely my sincere thanks
great video and analysis and i absolutely agree, you just nailed dante's character. you just earned yourself a new sub!
Man this video is incredible! Dante is my favorite video game character and you opened my eyes to more about him than almost any other channel I've seen that talk about Dante. You just got yourself a new subscriber!
*As I've been a fan of DMC since mid 2001,when I was 11, I just came here to hear what I already know.*
Also finally beat Bloody Palace with Dante on 5 and I agree, what Virgil lacks is heart!
It's the power of "royal guard" my dudes
If the Vergil and Nero videos have the same half and half thumbnail then I’m in. Dante is my all time favorite. So subscription earned
Someone who loves dante and the gang as much as me gets my subscription
It's really nice and basically a direct psychological analysis of him as a person, and why he treats others the way he does.
the need to do a remake on dmc 1 and 2 hope capcom does it, since they are doing remakes for the RE. Nice video bro, enjoyed it
Pretty solid take on Dante. I especially liked your point on the significance of him leaving behind devil sword sparda in DMC1. I never considered that.
Thank you so much for watching :D Yeah that scene became so much heavier when I started looking at it from that perspective lol I'm gonna do Vergil and Nero in the future so feel free to subscribe for when that happens :D I also have other videos on other games too int he mean time
Plugged this in a few Discord servers hopefully you'll get more of a following, would like to see this type of stuff more often not many people know the niche ideas portrayed in the DMC series so thank you!
:o I would appreciate that so much yo. Thank you :D feel free to subscribe for when I do Vergil next too. But seriously though that's really appreciated
This is deep dude. Well made and I'm not crying
It's nice to get good recommendations from RUclips. Fantastic vid. I'm looking forward for more!
Something fun as well is that Dante frequently takes devil hunting jobs pro bono, which is one reason he's perpetually broke
