  • @-R.Gray-
    @-R.Gray- 4 года назад +150

    Joe Walsh was first known as the leader of The James Gang, who's big hit was "Funk 49". Then he had a solo career before The Eagles added him to their lineup years after this to give them more of a rock edge. He was a big fan of Duane Allman's slide playing, which is why he tunes his guitar in open E. He used the talk box which he got from pedal steel player Pete Drake before Peter Frampton popularized it with "Frampton Comes Alive". There is also a Y.Tube video of a live Jeff Beck performance of the Beatles' "She's A Woman" using one which says 1974. Also see Y.Tube clips of a precursor to this used by Alvino Rey in a 1944 movie, where it was known as Stringy The Talking Steel Guitar. Before Walsh sobered up, he was known for trashing hotel rooms like Keith Moon. This is referred to in the lyrics to his song "Life's Been Good To Me".

    • @ramonaalvarez7559
      @ramonaalvarez7559 4 года назад +6

      Keith Moon actually coached Joe n2 some of the "hotel trashing" but it was usually Keith Moon himself doing the trashing while he convinced Joe to hang out. Joe actually discusses this in a yt vid while explaining how "Life's Been Good" came to fruition. U should give that a listen, it's pretty funny.

      Let's not forget he formed Barnstorm between James Gang and his solo career. This track is actually from Barnstorm's last album. I bought it new in 1973 and the other 3 members listed on this album are rest of Barnstorm and not the James Gang members. Barnstorm led by JW released 3 albums over just 2years and they were produced by Eagles producer Bill Szymczyk and on the same ABC-Dunhill label.

    • @dunhill1
      @dunhill1 4 года назад +1

      With all due respect, this is not a James Gang album. This is after them and when JW formed the band, Barnstorm. I bought this when it came out in the fall of '73 under the ABC-Dunhill record label. The rest of the band that played on this album were the rest of the Barnstormers, Joe Vitale, Rock Grace, and Kenny Passareli. It was produced by famous Eagles producer, Bill Szymczyk. I'm looking at the back of the album cover now. They were only together for 2 years and made only 3 albums. What confuses the public at large is the fact that Joe Walsh had only his name put on the album and that's what split the band. The James gang was made up of Jim Fox and Tom Chris. I just wanted to correct the record so to speak.

      Let's not forget he formed the band Barnstorm in between JG and his solo career. This is actually Barnstorm's last of 3 albums, released in '73.
