Assez agréable à l’écouter.
Wonderful to see this aria performed in the context of a staged production. Pirgu reveals the myriad of kaleidoscopic emotions portrayed in Mozart's vocal writing. And, contrary to the statements of some commenters here, Maestro Harnoncourt's tempo is ideal, expressing as it does the Cretan king's majesty, his despair at being forced to murder his own son, and his Existentialist defiance of the implacable god Neptune. People, and 'canary fanciers' in particular, are apt to forget that opera is not just high notes, pretty sounds and galloping tempi. It is human passions and emotional states being set vividly before us, in the most highly stylised expressive mode possible: the singing voice. If the tempo does not rum-ti-tum along cheerfully at the pace to which you have become accustomed, then ask yourself if this rendition is not that much more intense and provoking than the ones to which you are used. You may be surprised at your answer.

Na ja, mit herumgehüpfe und gekrieche kann man halt kein stimmliches manko, was diese schwierige Arie betrifft auf Dauer kompensieren.
This is very well sung, but I would have liked it much more if he didn't act like that way. It's more silly than dramatic.
