I'm 29 and I haven't fished in since I was 12-13 years old. This summer I got an ultralight and my brother let me use another medium/heavy rod/reel and this channel and a few others have been so HUGE. I literally had to teach myself how to fish and it's been such a blast!!!!! Thank you very much!
Nice! We love to hear feedback like this. Thanks for being a loyal viewer!
Just did this this year.
Always loved chatter baits, the flash and the vibrations they give off makes them irresistible to Bass.
Chatterbait has become one of my favorite to throw this year. I love feeling it vibrate and then all the sudden it doesn't and you know it got slammed. I've had success with chartreuse tipped sinko as trailers and rage bug bottom halves as well.
Yes, absolutely Highly Decent Fishing! Thanks for watching!
I gotta tell ya, I love watching Glenn teaching this stuff. If you don't learn something you're not paying attention. This video is no exception . . . loved the dying the tip of the trailer idea . . . .good stuff. Thanks for the lesson
Awesome. Thanks for the feedback Roger Dixon!
Glenn, every time I watch your videos, i always learn 2-3 things. good tip about keeping your rod tip down and to the side. That in my opinion is essential with the chatter bait and spinner baits.
Thanks for the support, Joshua Tousey, and thanks for watching!
I haven’t had much success throwing chatter baits but with fall approaching it gave me some good ideas to try... love watching these videos and picking up ideas.
Jeff Franklin, glad I could help. Let me know which tips helped the most. Looking forward to hearing much more from you.
Thanks for another great Bass Resource video. I enjoy chatterbaits and their versatility. I did notice that rigging it with a paddle tail seems to reduce the depth the bait wants to run. I had trouble keeping them running as deep as I wanted but switching to a 5.5:1 retrieve ratio reel helped a lot.
That’s a good tip as well, Robert Scott. Thanks for sharing.
thanks for the nuts 'n bolts tips - such as what you can feel dragging with the rod, vs reeling. really appreciate glenn's calm explanations --- versus other guys who are screaming and howling and yowling and proclaiming..............
Nice! We love to hear feedback like this. Thanks for being a loyal viewer!
What an awesome informative video! Chatter baits are tried and true and have been my confidence lure on those tough days when nothing else seems to get the job done. But Im a bank angler and I use a 7' Med Heavy/ mod fast action rod. From what I've learned through trial and error is what when a bass comes up out of the water as I'm reeling them in is that that they'll sometime shake the hook out with a fast action tip. Now for my Texas Rigs a med heavy/fast action is my go to.
Thanks for the support, El Texas Frijole, and thanks for watching!
Great instructional video on chatter bait fishing! Glad there are fisherman like you willing to take the time to teach bass fishing! Thanks!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great stuff, Glenn! I love throwing the chatterbait, usually in white/chartreuse. Best tip was the use it like a normal jig. Funny that some call them a bladed jig but I never thought to jig with it. I'll definitely give that a try. Also, the need to slow down and work the bottom is something I need to remember. I used to use paddletail trailers but after watching another pro's video he suggested using more of a straight tail. I've switched to the Yamamoto Zako and it's worked well, seems to help it run a little deeper on faster retrieves.
That’s a good tip as well, David Wright. Thanks for sharing.
Never thought about jigging with a chatterbait. Love the evergreen jackhammer is stained water. I'll def try dipping my trailer tail in chartreuse now! Thanks again for such a great video.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
I am happy that you cleared up what color to use for the different colored water conditions. It’s been two years of me being confused and thanks for helping me out. Love this channel always learn something new every video you guys post!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
I have had very good luck using the white chatterbait! Great Tips!
Hey Glen ever video you make is clear and calm , your techniques and tips are right on the money !!
Thanks, MANUEL JIMENEZ, I appreciate your feedback.
Great video. I learned more in this 15 minute video than any other video about chatterbaits. Thanks Glenn for all the videos that you make.
Nice! We love to hear feedback like this. Thanks for being a loyal viewer!
New bass fisherman here. Great info and easy to understand! Thank you... 🐠🎣
Hi Lynn Davison. Thanks for the feedback and support. I look forward to hearing more from you.
Really haven’t done much fishing with the chatter bait, however I have had success. The slower retrieve is a good key point to bring out. Thanks for the videos
Glad you liked it David S!
Never had much luck with a chatter bait. Always thought I read going to slow but you confirmed I was doing it correct. Thanks for always taking us
mathew karry, glad I can help. Thanks for subscribing as well.
I love the gear tips on what rod and reel speed to use. For beginning anglers this information is so important and so hard to find!
Thanks for the support, Hank freese, and thanks for watching!
Used a chatter bait this weekend and I was really surprised how well it worked thank for the tip.
Thanks, Ray Clary, I appreciate your feedback.
Now fishing a chatterbait like a jig, raising it up like something wounded trying to get off the bottom. I never thought of that. Sounds like a good thing to try. Thanks Glenn!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
I haven’t had the opportunity to fish a chatter bait yet. With the tips you shared, I feel equipped with the knowledge to go out and catch fish. Thanks Glen!
Great tip on fishing the chatterbait like a jig. Also, I liked what you said about dying the trailer chartreuse to mimic bluegill. It’s those little nuances that can make a difference.
William Evans, glad I can help. Thanks for subscribing as well.
Great information not only on the setup but the retrieve. Glenn thanks for the link on sharpening hooks.
You're welcome Fish-On! Thanks for watching.
I've caught a lot of bass on white also. Z-man trailers last me a lot longer than other baits. Love em
Many good tips and different approaches on how to use Chatter Bait. I liked the tip to put a bait on the hook and to anchor your boat shallow and cast toward the deeper waters. Now that Fall is approaching in MN I HOPE to try that tip.
Great! Let me know how you do!
chatterbaits are one of my go to lures but the jig technique you used was new to me now i'll have to try that
I absolutely adore my revos. I can't stop buying the darn things!
I check ALL hooks before tying on, and use a sharpening stone to put an extra fine point on them. So many hooks are NOT as sharp as they can be right out of the box/pack. Lighter chatterbaits don't sink deep enough for spotted bass. I learned that quickly. Nice video; full of good stuff as usual. I'll watch them several times to be sure to absorb all the important facts/tips.
Glad to help, James F. Let me know how it works out as I would love to see the results.
Just returned from Georgian Bay in Canada. Chatterbait with trailer caught several 17 and 18 inch smallmouths and 2 pike 27 inches long. Ned rig caught several bass and a few plke that didn't bite it off.
Great tip on color selection. I like being able to keep it simple.
Definitely gonna try those different ways to fish my favorite bait. Thanks for the tips Glenn! 😎
Did it work?
Just bought my first Chatterbait lure. All the white and black and blue were gone. But there was 3 craw colored left bought all three. Put a 3 inch smoke colored tube on as a trailer. Had three tubes left over. By God they work great. Please try the smoke tubes. Shawn
That’s a good tip as well, Shawn Beck. Thanks for sharing.
Yet another great video. Always very informative. I don't currently have any chatter baits in my arsenal but after watching this they're on my list to add to my tackle. Thanks again.
Great way to use the chatter bait I just bought some last night and cant wait to get out today. Old bucket mouth doesn't stand a chance with this bait. Its been supper hot this summer so adding that splash of color to the tail is a great idea. Thanks for the video
Glad to help, Ted Browning. Let me know how it works out as I would love to see the results.
wow!!! that was filled with lots of information Thank you !
I have tried the Zman chatterbaits but haven't had much luck. Hopefully trying the different techniques that Glenn shared will increase my confidence in the bait. I never realized you needed to have the rod off to the side.
Never used a chatter bait but learned I can fish it SLOW. Will give it a try this winter
Great! Let me know how you do!
You guys always give good tips on how to use all sorts of baits thanks for the info
Great video! I own a few but never really put the time to gain any faith in them. This will help to cut down that learning curve that I usually don't have the patience for.
Ive had some good results using z-man chatterbaits this summer. I will have to check out the hook sharpening video.
I do great using the darker colors. The extreme slow retrieve he shows by using the rod looks interesting, I need to try that.
Nice video. I will be checking my hooks before the next time I go out. Fishing chatterbaits can be very productive.
Great video, great info. Fished a chatterbait earlier tonight for the first time in a while, unfortunately no luck. Tried fishing it just about every way you've mentioned here- even before I watched the video- good to know I'm on the right track. Thanks!
Keep at it! You'll get there. Try throwing it in the same areas you would a spinnerbait. But don't try to force the bite. Sometimes the bass just don't want to chase a bait.
I well be using the chatter bait at the end of this month in a club tournament, your tips have given me a heads up on how to use and handle it. Thank you!!
Bass resource is top notice on information. Love watching them. Personal like the green pumpkin chatter bait with a rage tail menance on it either green pumpkin or black and blue.
Glad you liked it Missouri Rigging!
Glenn is the man and i go with white as well and a paddle tail trailer. Good stuff!!!
I love fishing a bluegill colored chatterbait in late summer. Kills it! Thanks for the tips Glenn
Great video...very thorough. Never would have thought about using a chatterbait for flipping/pitching, great tip!
Chatterbait is one of those things I rarely fish. The issue I run into is that I need to reel so fast to keep the blade thumping that I wind up burning the jig well off the bottom. I think you convinced me to try a couple different styles and give it another go!
Great! Let me know how you do!
I love z-man products and the chatterbait has produced for me. I love throwing it. Great tips for when my typical technique isn't getting them to bite!
I have had great success with White Chatterbait with White Grubs as a trailer. My home lake has plenty of Pike so when I use a Paddle Tail they bite the end off and most likely not get a hook up. The Grubs in this situation is more successful for both Bass & Pike. The Lakes in my area are pretty clean & clear, so White is definitely the go to color. As a note I have also had good results using a white & chartreuse Yum Dinger as a trailer. Good sturdy trailer with great side to side action.
You got that right! Thanks for watching, Lay Low!
thanx glenn i need to slow down ,i'll switch reels & give it a try been using a 7-3-1 reel.
Love using the chatter bait white w an electric Shad paddle tail. Never fails!
Another outstanding, well produced, informative video. Thank you.
Nice! We love to hear feedback like this. Thanks for being a loyal viewer!
Once again another great video!
The tips were awesome and examining the other videos were great.
Keep them coming!
The retrieve part was the most informative! I fish mine like a jig too and it's amazing. Not sure if it's the click sound that you can get when the blade bends over and hits the jighead or stuff on the bottom, but it's a killer technique.
You got that right! Thanks for watching, Gabe Harris!
Thanks for the tips as always! I especially liked that you dip the tails in chartreuse dye in warmer months. I just got my first new 7'2" MH fast action rod today and new reel so I can't wait to try it out with my new chatterbaits (Z-Man because I love all their products) I also got 30 lb. braid too so I'm glad that is what you used too! The crawling it on the bottom part was totally new to me I always thought you fish it above weedlines. Also the lift and drop method. I didn't realize they were so versatile. Thanks for all the education! I love this channel and your site, because I'm always learning something!
We love to hear when we do a good job. Keep ‘em coming!
Hopefully these tips will help me because I have thrown that bait for years but few fish to show for it...thanks
Glad to help, Al Perry. Let me know how it works out as I would love to see the results.
I’m new to chatter bait can’t wait to try it thanks for the video
Glad to help, Orlando Aponte. Let me know how it works out as I would love to see the results.
Good stuff, love using a Chatterbait, catch a lot of fish, but I never fail to loose a big fish everytime I'm fishing a tournament. Going to be doing some extra sharpening and checking out those hooks, thanks!!
Great! Let me know how you do!
I have never used a chatterbait before thkx for information I will try it out
New to fishing. I hope to try chatterbaits and techniques I learn on your channel.
Great video. Trying the chatterbait to deeper water next time I take out the boat.
Thanks for the great tips on using Chatterbaits.
Another great video Glenn, I have a box of Z-Man chatterbaits in various sizes and colors, but I haven't fished them that much and have not caught anything on them yet. I will try the techniques you mentioned and see how soon I can catch my first chatterbait fish. Thanks for the information and motivation.
Great! Let me know how you do!
I fished chatter baits years ago didn't have much luck. After this video I think I will be revisiting this lure. Any views on trimming the skirts like a spinner bait to change profile of the bait? Thanks for the info.
I've never had a need to do it, but I suppose it would work in late Spring.
what a great bait and a teaching how to use chatterbaits to catch big bass
I like the tip on crawling the chatter bait on the bottom!!👍🏻
Love the chatter bait in the spring and fall, where I fish it has to be green pumpkin with a gold blade. Summertime just use it moving from spot to spot along the weed lines.
Nice video! Well explained! I love chatters and use them every way you did besides the jig! Im going to try that in the morning! Thanks bud
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
Excellent video about Chatterbaits! Bladed jigs are some of my favorite and most productive baits. For some reason, I was told to never use a swimbait as a trailer on these guys, but I always thought they were a perfect match. Nice to see that was a true instinct I had! Also, I've never thought of just fishing these guys like I would a flippin jig, so I'll definitely be trying that soon. Thanks for the info and keep up with the great content!
Thanks for the support, Luke Graff, and thanks for watching!
Great tip Glenn. I have some chatterbaits but never tried them. Thanks for the tip of when and where to use them.
Good tip glen! I prefer a slower action tip for my chatterbaits but I’m def gonna try out mh/f
Been running a trickster 2.. kinda like a chatter and a shakey head mixed. Works great. Shad white
Nice demo about rod position to the side for better feedback.
I like the advise to dip the tail in dye and keeping the hooks sharp.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
I usually use my Revo STX 7.3x1 reel rigged with big game 15 lb line. I usually fish in weeds and like the faster retrieve of the Revo STX over the Revo SX. Keeping the rod side ways to the retrieve is a great thing to remember.
Thanks for watching Bobby Higgins!
good tip on the rod positions for the different retrieves also reel gear ratio
I've caught a few with chatterbaits but need to try them more.
Z-man does make the best chatterbaits. And their elaztech is the best soft plastic out there. Keep the great videos coming!
I picked up a few chatterbaits in the spring
Fished the a bit...
One has a hair or feather skirt
Gonna break that out later this fall and try it in the cooler water.
Thanks for the vid guys....
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
Old video but still great tips! Chatter bait is so effective when needed 👊🏻
Glad you enjoyed it!
One commentator (fisherman) indicated that he does not use paddle tail trailers because it gives the chatter bait too much action. Good video and yes these baits work.
Never used chatterbait. May have to give it a try. Thanks for the informative video.
My favorite comment was the dip into chartreuse dye with the tail! Works everywhere!
Great video as usual. I am going to try the 3/8th oz. more and leave the other weights alone for a while and see if I get more bites.
I am also going to remove all of the other colors, and will limit myself to only the colors you mentioned, and see how that goes.
Great! Let me know how you do!
I would say fantastic... was on the first shipment of them, caught 6 bass and an 8 lb catfish on it on a 42 degree day while it was in a sideways rain! Insanely fantastic "cold-water and year-round bait!
Got the "jackhammer a while back...as yet to prove itself!
Never used a chatter bait but will try it this fall...You never know when the big one might chomp Great tips
Thank you for the tip of holding your Pole to the side to feel the chatterbait. I always assumed you didn't want to feel it
Beastly Dude, glad I could help. Looking forward to hearing much more from you.
Nice tips Glenn. I like to use my old worn worms clipped off as trailers.
Chatterbait is a great bait. I use them for bass fishing and also red fishing in brackish water.
Love the z man and very nice video glen always learning and applying your tips and yes sir they work I love bass resource
Nice! We love to hear feedback like this. Thanks for being a loyal viewer!
@@bassresource yes sir glen always love to try and learn new things as well as apply them or try the informative tips you offer . I absolutely love this channel and how you guys share your knowledge to us young anglers striving to better our self and be the angler giving tips one day after having successful trips on the water . keep it up guys
Great Video as usual ;). I like to give some additional information. I figured out that especially during the summer time and early autumn the bass become "lazy" or tired of the chatterbaits so I attach a second hook a 2/0 J-hook at the end for "unmotivateted" bassbaits and a second modification when you cast the chatterbiat there is the tendency that the plastic sticks together so i cut it diagonally and than when I cast the plastic opens like a skirt very effective!
That’s a good tip as well, Michael Dob. Thanks for sharing.
I just started really fishing a chatterbait this year great tips
I like the white in the fall time, it works great when the bass are feeding on bait fish.
Another great tutorial video! Thank you Glen. I bought my 1st chatterbait today, im going to try it tomorrow. Hopefully i can report back some success. Great tips too!
Glad to help, Mike Waara. Let me know how it works out as I would love to see the results.
@@bassresource well Glen, i caught my pb on chatter bait and lost it at my feet on the shore. I think it was 5 to 6# because it looked like i cud put my fist in his mouth. I was using my 7' med fast action spinning set up because im still learning to throw a bsitcasting reel. Im sure if i had a med heavy rod fast action i would've stuck the hook on his mouth better. Oh well. It was fun, and to see how big he was on shore by my feet still made me happy. I used a white/ chartreuse zman chatterbait with a yamamoto white 4" zako for a trailer. I wish i could learn the damn baitcasting reel faster. I watched your video on it. It will prob help me, but i did no overhead casts today.
Thanks for the tips , going to be fishing the chatter bait my next trip
great info. will try this in the fall
Do you ever find yourself doing a sweep retrieve? I tend to get more strikes doing that than doing just a straight retrieve. Great tips, thanks for sharing!
Yes, that works too!
I am using it much more this year and really hoping the Rage Blade is still in production. My only gripe with the original chatterbait is it doesn’t get through brush or wood.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
