What is the Golden Ratio?

- The connection between the Golden Ratio and works of art and architecture has been questioned in the last few decades, but there is no question that the Golden Ratio has fascinating ties to the Fibonacci numbers, two- and three-dimensional geometry, and more. Check it out in this video!

first I ever heard of the Golden Ratio related to archicture is when I watched a video about a man who hand built a cabin in the mountains, made out of stone and applied the Golden Ratio in the design. If you haven't seen it, it is definately worth searching for and checking out, his name is Mike Basich, a pro snow boarder.
I never learned about it in school. Where I started diving into it..... Assassin's Creed Odyssey. One of the missions required obtaining the Golden Ratio. I've since been deep diving on the topic.
Nyo-ho~!
All these people saying that it's fee not fi, and here I am saying fo and fum.
My son at age seven was walking in his sleep and cane into our room and kept shouting its fee its fee .... what is fee and he would point at us in utter dismay and kept shouting its fee. I got him back to bed it was the year 2000 and now 2021 ... I finally learn fi is the make up of life itself! It’s the mathematical rhythm of creation! The golden ratio is God! God is the essence of fi! Wow! I’m awake!
This was a nice video. I didn't comprehend what made the circles and squares produce the golden ratio though, but that last bit really was especially nice.
In part 6, Pucci said that Leonarda da Vinci might have a stand.
I actually tried to understand because I’m in that grade where I need to know it and I can’t understand this.

Budding art kid trying to learn about the golden ratio here, didn't get a whole chunk of this so I'm gonna revisit some math books and try again sometime in the near future. Wonderful Video!
Does this theory have an explanation for, or anything to do with the phenomena of "mise-en-abyme", which is the pieces of mirror image gradually getting smaller but exactly in the same proportion in the two mirror set in front of each other, caused by the interaction of photons in the same rule like a tennis ball?
I'm pretty sure that phi is the limit of the ratio of consecutive terms of ANY sequence of numbers that follows the rule: a(n) = a(n-2) + a(n-1). That always fascinated me much more than the particular cases of Fibonacci and Lucas numbers...
This is correct. If you start with any two non-zero integers and form the sequence by adding successive terms, the limit of the ratio will be phi.
I wrote a program to test it.
It looks like it is true.
Even if I put 2 and 3, it ends up closing in on phi.
If I put 1 and 10, it ends up closing in on phi.
1 and 40, 35 and 40, etc. It always goes to phi.
The picture that you have at 4:24
1 + 1/1 = 2/1
but you can write that as
1 + 2/2 = 2/1
1 + 3/3 = 2/1
1 + 4/4 = 2/1
........
louis tournas I feel stupid.
@@louistournas120 you didn't need to write a program to test an undisputed fact. What a waste of time, like my comment.
@@thealgorithm4429
I disagree. I was curious. I needed to write a program and check it for myself. It is more educational than to just listen to a video.
Ah yes thank you very much, now i can harness the power of the spin with my yoyo, bakugan, fidget-spinner, and beyblade
Awesome 😍.... Waiting for such a video on Fibonacci & Golden Ratio since long!!!
Please help I need some clarification. I feel there is a slight problem with this. the line a-b does it always describe the rectangle?thats question one. two is the a a square? if you put b in a the smaller part does the ratio fit? is it just visually deceptive? so to speak. I get the swirling rectangle idea. Ive tried to see the logic in it - a/b equals phi but ab divided by a im not sure.

It's everywhere.

I didn't just come for only jojo. I came to learn the spin and the golden ratio!
I definitely don't belong here, bye bye
Phi is pronounced 'fee'? I've always rhymed it with 'my'.
Wonder what will happen when you find out that the correct pronunciation of pi is "pee" and not "py" rhyming with my.
Does "pi" NOT rhyme with "my"? :P
Most of the world pronounces Pi as "pee", like the Greeks. Don't ask me what they drink on Pi Day.
If I'm not mistaken, in the indo-european branch, only some germanic languages say it with the "-y" sound, so it doesn't matter what english-speaking country you live, you'll speak it this way.
I can't believe it's 2017 and people still aren't pronouncing every single imported word like it's pronounced in the language of origin smh
I can already feel the power of spin

Great video. 1:38 The Nautilus shell often appears in connection with phi, but that's a myth. Phi appears in nature because it's the irrational number that keeps away from the rationals as far as possible.
thanks this was a perfect last minute explanation

For those who are here because you are taking algebra and know nothing about jojo:
In part seven of a manga series called jojo’s bizarre adventure, there is an ability the main character learns called “spin” which utilizes the golden ratio. Which is used in part with the main character’s other ability called a “stand”, and all done so that this character can shoot his fingernails like bullets. It truly is *bizarre*
bruh why they got to overcomplicate art of all things. Why is this even a project!?
Art and maths are intertwined! Got from figure drawing tutorials to this, and although daunting in depth, it's fascinating, impressive and inspiring that humans, careful human minds, took notice of this phenomena and pinned it down into a workable concept. In any case, this did make my brain hurt though hahahaha.

My art teacher in 9th grade made us study this and then she made us draw the Parthenon... and I was into a scientific lyceum... yep, school in Italy is strange, but I learnt a lot ;)
“I’ve fallen in love or imagine that I have; went to a party and lost my head. Bought a horse which I don’t need at all.”
I got triggered by his pronounciation of phi
The rest of the world pronouces it like that. Also pi.
phi = "phee"
pi = "pee"
Only in English they're pronouced "pie" and "phie".
no, only the greeks pronounced it like that. In english, it is the other way. Kinda like zed and zee in the alphabet
Just throw π and φ on Google Translate. Select some other languages besides English, and hear the pronunciations. Most say "pee" and "phee".
