We both fancied doing it again this year but we’re book on The Fellsman for this weekend. Thought the two would have been too close together. Don’t mind a mud fest so would have enjoyed it. Shame! Totally different to last year when it was very warm.

Go Cheryl go Cheryl 🙌, congratulations to you both on such an epic run and Cheryl being first lady was the icing on the cake.
I'm not sure about having a dip in that water trough you passed, I don't know about being sick on the day you'd have been sick for a week if you'd have had a dip in that 😂. Hope the legs have recovered from the stinging nettles, I do kind of understand Cheryl's logic about cold and wet taking away some of the sting ... until your legs dry off ,then definite 'ouchy '😮
    Great video again 👍

I didn't expect you to put up the video so soon 😂. I was tempted with the GUCR race for next year which is on the same day but this race looks like its changed my perspect now. If you liked this race for the canals then i can highly recoment the TP100. My favourite race.
I love my speedgoats and glad you chose them for this race. I think i've said in the past that my legs and feet are knackered with inov8's but with the Hoka's after a hundred miles my feet steel feel great. Nothing wrong with being sick also on these races. Practically on every long race over 50 miles im ill. The stomach just isn't able to cope with the stuff we are taking in and then burning it off so quickly. Anyway super well done again. Very chuffed for you both and enjoy the rest. You've earned it...again 😁

I wasn’t doing much last night so why not? Nice food, a beer and looking back at the day!
We both said you would love this race. It has a bit of everything. Think NDW, a couple of hills (Frodsham and Helsby) with some canals thrown in. I think the mix of terrain is what made this a good route. I definitely wasn’t drawn to it for canals but at some points I was glad to be back on them.
As for sickness, I fear it no more - sooner it’s up the better. Have a sweet coffee and crack on!
Speedgoats were absolutely perfect. No drop bags with spare shoes or socks needed!

It was a great day and I was a bit further back than you both… For me that stretch of nettles along the Warrington loop was the worst bit. Second time through it went quickly as I was so tired by then.
By and large I thought the route was well marked but the stretch across the fields in the last section following the NCW was a bit sketchy. Back onto the canal and then the finish at least.

Forgot to mention, one thing that has helped me recently with nausea in long distance 50+ mile events is strong bottles of Tailwind.
The tailwind that is supplied on race day is too weak for me so I top it up with an extra 30g per 500mL bottle.
I make up little weighed out sachets for the race so I can top as and when.
Doing that really helped me as it was a good balance of electrolytes and sugars for what I needed. I usually have one bottle of strong Tailwind and my other bottle is just plain water.

Awesome effort as always you guys are always smashing through mental and physical barriers, I always wonder if you guys follow any sort of training programme or even if you’re coached likewise with nutrition, hydration, kit selection, planning routes etc you always seem so dialled in, I think the RUclips community would love to know/ see some behind the scenes stuff 👍

    • @TrailRunningCouple
      @TrailRunningCouple  Год назад

Thank you so much, really appreciate your comments!
We don’t follow a training plan at all. Just do a couple of 10 mile runs in the week and plan a marathon or longer distance over the weekend, ideally with hills to make it feel uncomfortable. We try to embrace that to become used to it. It can then be used for other occasions when we think we have it bad!
As for nutrition and hydration again no such plan. I sometimes think that ‘winging it’ was a phrase developed for us. Route planning, we love that. We generally look at races to grab GPX files or even create routes from scratch via Plotaroute. Usually though we tie in the best bits of other routes to create something challenging.
We’ve never had coaching, we just do what we do and really enjoy it. It helps so much that way 😊

Hi you amazing humans. Don't even know where to start. I just watched this rollercoaster of a monster challenge you did in one gulp. Congratulations for doing so brilliantly at it. I can't believe you were even running at the end. Salty potatoes and watermelons must have fuelled you well. I had a massive smile on my face when I heard that people in a pub were cheering Cheryl like a celebrity. Two people from my club were running it too. That's why I wanted to see everything, thank you for filming the major bits so it's easy to get a picture what it's like. I agree with Cheryl, I would find wet vegetation soothing for the stings too. Once again, congratulations 🎉 you superhumans!
P.S. oh wanted to ask how does your watch not run out of charge and your camera?

Thank you so much Olga, again, really appreciated 😊
We started eating well but soon slowed down due to the heat and distance. You really don’t want anything but know you need it. It’s a strange thing to go though as we absolutely love our food!
I really wish I’d have got the chanting on video (had hands full), they were outdoor bars and people were on the tracking app. I’ve never experienced anything like it and Cheryl was in awe!! Hope your friends got around the route safely. Cheryl loved that you agree with her wet nettle theory though I still need convincing 😂
Our watches are Garmin Enduro 2’s which were navigating for the whole 23hrs and 41mins and used 42% of battery life so still another 58% left. Should easily last for Lakeland 100 at well over 30hrs.
The batteries on the GoPros also do really well. Whilst we both carried a spare each we didn’t use them.

@@TrailRunningCouple wow the watch last for so long! It's not always easy to film everything. But I could just picture it from your words how they were cheering Cheryl. People know of you two with your casual ultra fun :-) I love seeing your adventures. All the best.

Thank you very much, appreciate you watching and taking time to comment. As for navigation, yes we use our watches (Garmin Enduro 2) with GPX files. Brilliant technology!

Great job!!!! What problems did the Lone Peaks cause in the other race?

      Thank you 😊
The Lone Peaks were brilliant for around 85 miles. I think at that point I suffered due to a lack of cushioning and zero drop. I was quite surprised as they had been a goto shoe for quite some time so put it down to that. I didn’t suffer at all on Saturday with the Speedgoats having a little more cushioning. They also have a 4mm drop. I’m not really convinced a difference of 4mm would cause much of an issue but after that distance it could be a possibility. Still love Lone Peaks for shorter runs but I have full confidence in Speedgoats. Fantastic trail shoe 👍

@@TrailRunningCouple Thank you for the reply. My wife and I are slowly getting into running. We are both in our late forties. I did my longest run on Sunday to date it was 11.5 miles in lone peaks. After the 11.5 miles my Achilles were very sore. I'm wondering if it has to do with the 0 drop? I really enjoy your videos. Thanks

Zero drop isn’t for everybody though we’ve ran a few 50 milers and a 73 mile route with no issues. That said, Cheryl was fine with them on the previous 100, just me that had the issues. I was early 40’s when I started running so you’ve got some good years in you yet. Well done 👍

Can I ask how you navigated around the course? Ive watched a few others that say it is poorly marked, I am hopeless at directions and seriously concerned I will end up doing more miles but I dont have time to go off course and looking at what’s the easiest and best way to navigate round.

I don’t think it’s classed as a marked course as such so you need the ability to navigate a little. As always, we used a GPX file on our watches which makes navigation a breeze. GB Ultras do have a GPX file though we tidied it up a little so if you need it let us know and we’ll send it over 👍

Hi I really interested in doing an ultra do you navigate them with a map or is it clearly sign posted

Hi, we usually use GPX files on our watches for navigation. This particular ultra isn’t marked so you have to rely on self navigation, either via GPX or a map. It’s a great event though 👍
