I've been looking for this song for years. My dad had Micha Maisky's recording on CD and I would listen to it all the time. After I moved out I forgot what it was called and would every now and then try to remember it to no avail. I'm so glad I finally came across it!

I read so often to words of people who hold this work in incredibly high regard. For me, the opening is beautiful, that elegant theme, but it gets trivial at the 1:30 mark (in this video), after which it is just a series of sequencing phrasing and cliched cadences. I love Schubert's music so much, the piano sonatas, the string quartets, the quintets, the lieder, but I just find this piece so shallow compared to the rest of his output.

Actually, the old-time country singer Roy Clark said it best: "It's your talent that carries you through." RC was playing a concert in Japan, and was socked-in by fog at the airport. He barely made it to the Tokyo concert hall, at breakneck speed, about 5 minutes before curtain-time. He was *RUSHED ONSTAGE* after barely changing into his costume. He did the entire concert effortlessly, as if he had "hours to spare". I guess that it's the same with all of the "GREATS",including Yo-Yo Ma... *WOW!*

I agree. i love Yo-Yo so much, I’m going to see him for the first time he has ever come to Australia this November. But I would give all I have to see and heart the beauty of Jacqueline Du Pré. I think Yo-Yo expresses amazingly, serine, powerful playing. But what Jacqueline had was like a fire erupting inside her and she was able to put that into her playing so well. And yet she had to stop performing before she turned 30 years old, tragic...
