Fantastic video!
Very nice video!
This is absolutely fantastic! You've inspired me!
Nice catch, I live there
My dad use to work this route actually all the routes in zone 4 the Michigan line. He was the most senior engineer out of Chicago before he got hurt.
Awesome!
what's up with the cranes in the Holland shot?
It's the City's new Natural Gas power plant. It's gonna replace the current coal-fired facility within the next year.
My dad girlfriend is from new buffalo
I love the kiss at 13:30!
Like the 800 series P40
Really nice video, and I like the narration. I usually don't sit through 16 minute videos. I was surprised that the Amtrak trains sounded like they were using both engines. I just assumed the second engine was for quicker and easier turn arounds at the terminus station, but it sounded as though even the trailing engine was working.
They use both on the AML for the faster speeds. It also helps with the Head End Power for the consist.
+Thornapple River Rail Series I'm sorry, I googled AML and came up with nothing. What is AML?
+Luke Starkenburg Abbreviation for "Amtrak Michigan Line"
FWIW, Amtrak also does this on their higher-speed Lincoln Services. If they can't turn a train, they'll use a gutted F40, aka NPCU aka "Cabbage" to provide a cab and crash protection on the headend. They do this for Hiawatha, the Pere Marquette and some other similar services.
+Thornapple River Rail Series Yes, I see this all the time on the Pere Marquette.
Why so many locos on the NS train? And what time did that come through? (I have always wanted to catch it)
Nice video!
NS uses 3-4 locomotives on BO5 with such a short consist for as much speed and acceleration as possible do to it having to dodge from siding to siding between 110mph Amtrak trains. Remember Michigan is one of few states with an Amtrak service that sees more than 1 pair of trains each day and that part of the Michigan line has all 6 Wolverines plus the 2 Blue Water trains as well. 8 Amtrak trains total.
+Jack Stryker Well, not exactly. Usually B05 runs with two Geeps. Not sure why they needed four locomotives today, but they might have had a grain cut to pick up. No, more than two locomotives is NOT normal, it is abnormal.
Curious as to why Amtrak needs a rear engine on such short trains? Nice commentary BTW.
+mittelfruh Trains that use the AML get two for quicker acceleration, and to my knowledge the trailing unit is sometimes shut down. The Pere Marquette extras were run with two most likely for redundancy on that tight schedule. Also possible, Beech Grove will sometimes "test" repairs by running a second unit on a midwest train.
+Thornapple River Rail Series Thx for the explanation, much appreciated. Cheerz, good work.
