    It says so much that he was a lovely bloke even then, while still the greatest ever and dominating his sport. Class.

    When I was much younger I used to despise this guy , my mother , brother even the dog hated him , when Taylor beat him in the world championship we were all jumping up and down cheering . This was all due to the playing persona he projected . Now, I think he's a great bloke , a British icon and everyone loves 'the nugget' all continuing success and happiness to you sir

      Wouldn't you say he was the first "great player" of the modern era, then came Hendry/O Sullivan, surely those three are the household names of the past 35 years

      +PA28 About spot on really, although Higgins and White were usually in the papers for fighting and losing respectively. These days, i totally, 100% have way more time for players like Davis. When I was younger I wanted to see all the bish, bash, bosh!! Now, I pray for a prolonged safety battle, really enjoy that.

      @gareth110777  3 года назад +2

      His Dad was always in his corner and part of this involved keeping an eye on his game but I don't think he would have seen himself as a coach. Steve used Frank Callan as a professional coach at various points throughout his career.

    That was wonderful. He was my hero in the 1980s but I’d never seen this programme before. I wasn’t wrong about him, I love the fact he was so close to his parents and kept his feet on the ground. He’s actually always been a rather interesting chap and not deserving of his nickname at all. How many other snooker players paid for their favourite French progressive rock group to come over to the U.K. and play some shows?

    It's funny but I think I could have guessed this was from either 1986, 1987 or 1988 just from the style of the programme and the general atmosphere of it. Odd how you can narrow things down to just two or three years in that way without knowing beforehand the precise year it was broadcast. I was around in 1987 albeit at primary school, so I do remember that time but only through the eyes of a fairly young child.
