Those aren't false nails those are her real nails. She has them overlayed but the length is her real natural nails. Btw she's the real deal picker she plays all her string instruments guitar/autoharp with just her fingers/nails and has the callouses to prove it. Makes me proud to be from the same part of the States as Miss Dolly.
This is what I love about Dolly-she'll address a huge audience and use a real American instrument the Autoharp and sing a simple song with it.She won't let us forget our American roots.
Still my favourite Dolly song!!! My son loves it as well. I came downstairs and he was listening to it when he was a young boy. He was crying saying how mean those kids where to make fun of him.
Dolly and Elvis both have an infinite repertoire of music covering a multitude of genres and they both sing a lot of gospel and they both are EXTREMELY talented musicians musical geniuses in their own rights. They're both from Tennessee and have a similar drawl to their voices and they both have a lot of love and generosity in their hearts. They embody pure love. I can definitely see the similarities.
@@fredhugard7444 imagine if Elvis was still here though, he'd be a living legend like Dolly Same as John Lennon. I wish we'd got to see what music he'd have made as he aged
What a lovely song about motherl's and children's love and caring for one another. It is very special and I thank you for it, my dear Dolly. You are so beautiful, not only in looks but in your soul, as well! Did you write this sweet song? Once again, many thanks for placing it on You Tube for many of us to hear!
Yes she wrote it. Coat of many colors is based on a true story the story she's singing about is a personal experience that happened to her as a child. Listen to the lyrics and you'll see. Btw shes written roughly 2,000 songs throughout her lifetime and that's not just a random made up number that came straight from the horse's mouth she'll be the first one to tell you that. And she's got the proof to back it up as she's also an ace record keeper and collector she's saved and preserved EVERYTHING throughout her entire life much of it is in her museum and it's ALOT of stuff. She's one of the greatest most accomplished songwriters of the past century.
The autoharp looks like a 15 chord Oscar Schmidt. Someone, probably a jeweler, got a hold of it. It is in tune. The autoharp was the beginning of her writing career in my opinion.
You can always go on Facebook and ask on her page or send a note to her by snail mail. I would like to have a copy of her television Christmas show about the coat of many colors, how she wrote the song on an autoharp and then the rest is history.
I take my autoharp to small churches and sit on the back seat of the church. At the end of the service I ask if anyone wants to play it or look at it while I play it. So sometimes they tell me they don't have time, and sometimes they play the autoharp. I only go to each church once and I don't return. I find out how churches would treat Jesus. Harps cost $25,000.00 to $100,000.00 and lessons cost $100.00 a week for children who are studying harp. So children who can read the ABCs can read the autoharp and the guitar tabs and play without that $100.00 week in lessons.
Charlotte Fairchild autoharp don't cost near 25,000 and especially not 100,000.00. I got mine for 100 and it's more than decent. Running price for a new one is 300...
Right about that. A large standing harp is $25,000 to past $100,000. Meanwhile a great autoharp is $2,000.00 and a new one may be made in China and an old American autoharp that has been converted to 21 chords and new strings is $400 and a BETTER DEAL. You lucked out for $100. Your strings are old Jackson Catlett and they need changing! Strings cost about $100. I will look for a video of you playing! I have videos!
You need to listen to the live album this came from, not a bootleg copy of an actual concert. This version doesn't sound anything like what was recorded in a studio. Do you realize how difficult it is to pull off a live concert in front of a live audience like she does. If you really do like Dolly Parton, you'd be buying the two DC set and enjoying the whole concert. NO ONE does a concert like Dolly. I think that the CD concert was done at Dollywood with the whole band playing and Allison Krause and Union Station.
This song is a great exaggeration. Sure, she had a coat made of rags but so did many of the kids. I have on that was made during the depression. It was common for girls to have a coat quilt coats. Dolly does not tell you that it was made just like a quilt and was warm, pretty, and acceptable by the other girls. BECAREFUL OF WHAT YOU HEAR, READ AND BELEIVE.
Saw her in January 2020. She played this song on an autoharp, but this one was absolutely COVERED in jewels. It was incredible.
If you look closely, the one in the video is covered in something that sparkles, so it might be the same autoharp, but it is hard to see it clearly.

Her autoharp technique is contingent on false nails... brilliant!

I swear, I've heard this song endless times and it still reduces me to a puddle of tears!
I understand! The song is not only beautiful to the ear, but certainly to the heart too!
tpmm1 Well said!
So do I !!!

Ah, good. Glad to not be alone!
Of course you are not alone!! You are very sensitive. And that is good. Have a nice day !!!

Beautiful story & song, Dolly's humble beginning reminds me of my own & the very special mother I had.
There is and only ever will be one Dolly Parton , probably the biggest superstar in the world today!!
AMEN 🖐🙌🙌🙌♥️⚘✌
I love this song. And Dolly is brilliant.
And that coat, which I have seen, did bring Dolly good luck, and a fortune as well, because every time that song is heard she has made another coin. ❤
Notice how this lovely lady puts the 7th's in the correct places.
Well, you would THINK all the 7th's would be in the correct places since she WROTE the song! Duh.
✌♥️🙌🙌🙌🙌⚘
People that dont know about music wont even know what a 7th is

I miss my mom so bad it’s been a year since she passed away even if it doesn’t seem that long. Just cherish your moms.
AMEN ⚘♥️✌🙌
Some mothers are no good sadly. Mine was one.
My idol . God Bless you Dolly . You are my inspiration
Hello Shannon
I’m not a fan of country but this song got me in the feels.
Dolly Parton, always sweet.
Still my favourite Dolly song!!! My son loves it as well. I came downstairs and he was listening to it when he was a young boy. He was crying saying how mean those kids where to make fun of him.
Oh So Lovely Dolly, Thank You!
thanks for the love and support dearest, indeed you're a true super fan❤
Love her so much!
I've been in love with dolly sinceshe was on the cas walker show.
Beautiful song.
Love this song and Dolly. She reminds me of a female Elvis in a way.
Matthew Dale it's true bro
Well, they are both carbon based life forms. So there is that...sorry, man, I don't see it. I can't see Elvis playing auto harp.
matthew patrick Maybe because they both have such great vibrato in their voice.

Nicely done Dolly!
Love you Dolly
Love the autoharp
J'adore !
Wonderful!
Love it!
My favourite song by Dolly. I wonder who made that wonderful custom Autoharp for her?

I’m sure there are some people in the world who don’t like Dolly...
...but they’re wrong.
I''ve never been a country fan (Call it scars from growing up with a country music father lol), but I'll *always* have time for dolly.
⚘✌🖐🙌🙌🙌♥️
Yes, she really doesn't need fingerpcks to play :) Great! THX
For a second I thought “why does it sound so weird??”
Then I realized it was on .75 playback speed XD
I did the same thing but I was at 1.75x speed and I was like, this seems like a quick tempo for a song for your dead parents 🙈
lol!!
what a sweet lady
I would die for autoharp dolly
What Luthier made her beautiful autoharp? Love you Dolly! ❤️
Can't tell but it's certainly a custom 'harp.
🙌✌♥️
I don't get television. When is her movie going to be on RUclips or on DVD?
classy lady
🙏🏻😊
Do you have the full show?
She is from joyful noise
She is from other places as well
Wonder what chords shes playing?
How many instruments did she play
It just doesn't have the same effect when you set the playback speed to 2!! LOL
anyone know what brand and model that harp is ??

@@CharlotteFairchild I had a $40 maple Oscar Schmidt that sounded just as good as this one. course I didn't sound as good as Dolly singing this song!
I'm not gonna cry. I'm not gonna cry. I'm not gonna cry. I'm not gonna cry.........shit.

So you think you're Jesus on an autoharp? Who charges $100 an hour for music lessons? I didn't know Jesus played autoharp OR worked at Juilliard!
Um yeah. Is your Autoharp encrusted with jewels I just bought one for 50$
Beauty in voice and content!
You mean to tell me these things can be played and don't just sit in my grandma's basement?
Oh, yes indeed. Go look up Mother Maybelle Carter here on RUclips and you'll see.
They need to be played more...they are becoming obsolete. And yet they sound like something angels would play....
I love Dolly grown up listening to her music through my mum an dad but she is miming her Ass off on this which is sad.

I think she was choked up and couldn't sing like normal on this song. I don't think she was lip syncing.
When music didn't need autotune and performance didn't need dancers, lasers, pyrotechnics and trapeze
It still doesn't. You just have to look.
✌🙌♥️

"one is only poor if he chooses to be"
Bril. Top Lady. Show up the young ones
Cry every time
:')
😩
Shame about the echoey, tinney sound. :(
Of course Dolly would have a blinged out Autoharp! :) She's wonderful but she's so thin.
One is only poor if they choose to be.....
Terrible audio!
