I would love to see kind of a “look book” or how you mix and match your pieces to get the most out of your wardrobe. Great advice on not just buying things to buy them, or because they are inexpensive. I have been SO guilty of that, but am actively trying to right my ways. Good that you have come to this realization years before I have. Great videos! Keep up the great work.
This was supposed to be educational but it ended up just being me rambling for thirty minutes about some things I purchased and some mistakes I made. It was really hard to format this, so I kind of gave up. But I hope it was somewhat interesting. And I have plans for shorter more structured videos in this series - I promise! Also, I hope this didn’t come off as being negative! I’ve been really happy with what I’m wearing more regularly - but gushing about for 30 minutes wouldn’t help anyone. So I hope focusing on things I wish I didn’t do will be more helpful. And I haven’t been styling myself this dramatically on a daily basis, usually it is less styled hair and way less makeup - I got a new eyeshadow palette and went wild. I'll make some videos with more casual me soon.
The best thing about vintage is that you don't end up with an out of date wardrobe next season. You can get years of wear out of vintage, which is good for the planet, and your purse.
Very true! And that is all the more reason to put extra consideration into what you buy - it isn't going to go out of style, buy pieces you intend on having and wearing for years not months!
Angela, never second guess your presentation. This was so enjoyable and the suggestions and thought process you went through illustrates personal growth and a healthy dose of your own style/confidence emerging. Thank you for the gift of your talent. :)
This wasn't rambly at all. In fact I thought it was a thoughtful video full of lots of good advice. You have purchased some amazing pieces and I cannot wait to see your outfits. I hope you do some OOTD on IG.
I love your channel. I watch it for the sewing and the beautiful fashions. I have a suggestion for the orange and mustard sweaters. Brown and navy blue would go with both and most of the other items. My moms dream was to be a fashion designer and she used to draw beautiful dresses from the 40's and 50's for your mid century videos. What you said at the end of the video made me tear up. Thank you for appreciating vintage and antiques. It reminded me of her. She passes 10 years ago.
I love your style. I am so inspired. Can you do a video that shows your whole wardrobe and model the different looks? Include the hats, earrings and shoes. It will really be helpful to see each look😊
Jona Minotto I would like to see that too it might help me with pairing some of my vintage items together I learned some things from my grandma but she couldn't remember everything to complete my teaching she spent most of the second world war in her nurses uniform (she was in the wrens which is the British military nurses)
I wish I had seen this video 4 years ago when I ventured into vintage! I wasted SO much money on “exciting” pieces hat ended up not fitting into my lifestyle (a stay at home mom). I ended up selling and donating almost all of it out of frustration. I spent a couple of years unhappy in modern clothes and am now slowly sipping my toes back into vintage. This video is very timely for me.
I love this series so far. I don't mind if it's just you sitting in front of the camera because that means I get to listen to you and clean or do something else that needs doing but know I won't miss anything if I'm not looking at the video. And now I am rambling.
Honestly. Being very honest here. You look so much happier and grown up from your videos from even last year (before your wardrobe change). It's not that you weren't happy before, it's more that you look more comfortable in your skin now and that you look more inspired. Your change and sewing videos have inspired me to start my sewing journey and to start looking into vintage clothing because I know that it would be something I would like I just haven't been poking myself enough to actually do it and you have really helped... so thank you very much!!!!! :):):)
I made myself a rule, that any new item has to be worn at three different ways. I was taught that shoes and handbag must match. Hats and gloves were not optional. Jewelry is a must. My wardrobe is huge. I wore uniforms to school K-12. Then I joined the US Air Force and wore flight suits. Thankfully I had a second career with a major US women’s’ apparel company and it was there I learned about fashion. I was stationed in the U.K. and had mandatory time off, so I would go to Paris and wander the back streets for lovely pieces. I have to reduce my wardrobe, it fills seven closets and six dressers. GREAT program. Keep up the good work!
Angela! You’re a savior! I’m transitioning my style into a vintage inspired and my mother and I love to sew too. But we are still working on tailoring to my body. But I’m in transition to a new career where I’m not required to wear a uniform. This series is really helping as I was almost about to just buy a ton of pieces from Dresslily. Thank you for the suggestion on other sites that obviously have better quality at about the same price. All the tips to buy a good foundation of basics and talking about accessories because that wasn’t crossing my mind. Looking forward to more on your channel!
I LOVE the idea of writing down your most worn modern items and getting a vintage equivalent. That's something that I think is going to help me tremendously! I've slowed down my search because I noticed that any item I found that looked vintage or I liked I would get. But I haven't worn a lot of the items I've purchased. Thank you so much that is so helpful and I've never seen someone recommend doing that before!
I'm shocked that it didn't occur to you to wear either the orange or yellow sweater with the green Gertrude pants! I'm getting back into 70s fashion lately, after a 15 year hiatus, so those colour combos just leapt out at me. Thanks so much for taking the time to outline your process, it's wonderful to hear about how you made your decisions.
I think this video is awesome. It contains really good advice for re-building a wardrobe in a way that is smart and efficient so as to avoid buyer's remorse. I've been slowly shifting my wardrobe into a new direction and your thoughts on both your successful purchases and failed purchases have given me a lot of things to think about as I make my own transition. I think there's nothing wrong with your format at all. It's more conversational, and I enjoy that format a lot. I'm going to subscribe and I look forward to more videos from you in the future. Thank you for sharing!
I would personally love to hear more about how you choose your foundation garments as they so often really make or break a vintage outfit. Loving this new series, it's really helpful to hear about other people's journeys!
I'm definitely the kind of person who can never have too much of a basic item in my wardrobe, I own so many turtle necks (I wear 1970s menswear ) and a lot of them are similar colors but I wear them almost every day. I'm into little differences in things, like if people catch that I own three different grey-blue blazer that have slightly different cuts with different buttons and other details.
I really think that mustard top would look cute with the jeans you showed! Not that you really asked but I'd hate to think you never wore that lovely little top simply because the effort to make specific pants to go with it is a bit much (which I totally understand)! Love your videos and your style!!! Can't wait for the next one!!!
I love your video! I was wondering if you considered making a lookbook of your different outfits? It's cool to see all those pieces pairs together, and in motion as opposed to on a hanger. Although seeing them at all pretty neat, and I'm really impressed with the journey into vintage you've made so far :)
I didn't want to make this video any more disjointed by adding b-roll - but I will definitely do a video that shows pieces styled and worn in the near future! :)
Even after 15years dressing this way I make mistakes. We all get seduced into buying this print or item everyone in the community is going nuts for. I am trying to stop buying all the prints and the new season "must have", and buy basics. I realised yesterday I have no plain cardigans or jumpers, or tops for that matter - meaning I then have trouble matching them with the prints on the skirts......and suddenly Ive realised I have a wardrobe full of clothes but non of them match. Ive also come to the conclusion that after 20+ years of wearing only black I have no idea how to put colours together! Youve inspired me to pull my finger out and sort out the mess that is my wardrobe
Angela! You are my new hero. I have been obsessively watching all your videos. You are so incredibly talented and it has inspired me to new heights with my own sewing. I have always been so incredibly intrigued by historical costumes and used to sew them. I became a mother and had 5 boys in 8 years so my time became very limited when it came to sewing and designing...However, I have recently picked it back up and am switching my entire wardrobe over to 40's and 50's fashions (this is the era I have always been the most in love with!) Your videos have REALLY inspired me to keep pushing forward on sewing and designing! Your videos are awesome. Thank you for sharing these sewing adventures with us!
I love your long chatty videos! I just watched this on a summer evening on my balcony with a little drink and it felt like a chat with a friend, so dont feel bad! If you like to ramble, ramble! 😊❤
Good advice .Thank You ! If 25 years and older clothing is considered Vintage , I just hit the jackpot in my basement . I have saved 50 % of my clothing and shoes from 80's :P Yeah I am terrible , I know :) can't let things go . I guess I will rummage my Rubbermade boxes for starters . I even have my size stayed same ,so maybe I can find something to wear . Also have my mothers patterns and knitting books from 50's ,might need to get busy over winter .
2 years after it came out but I must say this is a very helpful video for anyone thinking about dressing historically in some way. You don't say it outright but you have a very clear idea of what era and look you're focused on. I've been thinking about embracing a vintage look for a long time but have struggled with the "when" part of it. When you spoke about accessories and shoes and how important they were to create an overall look it made me realize that most accessories weren't something I'd enjoy unless I was embracing that really 1920s turbans and capes look. So, thank you for helping me move along on my vintage fashion path.
I am not a fashion girl, but I do love art and costumes and history, I just never realized that I could incorporate my love for those things into what I wear! Thank you for showing that fashion is not about price or quantity, that it's about connecting me with what i wear. I think I knew that somewhere in me, but I needed to hear you say it. Thank you for the inspiration. 🤗
You are very charming and I don't think people think of you as "rambling". Sharing your experiences and ideas about collecting your vintage wardrobe is very helpful and enjoyable. You have much more control than I do! If I see something that I love and it fits, I buy it.(it also has to be reasonably priced)Then I figure out where I will wear it. I always wear my vintage 40's dresses for special occasions and when my hubby and I are going out.
You hit the nail about accessories. Hats in women were often a signal that they were dressed up. The better hat, gloves, shoes had come out. The not very different flowered dress or navy blue crepe dress worn for the third year, was made different by the hat or the shawl, scarf or cardigan. I saw it over and over as a child. I used to spot the hats on ladies in church like my brothers spotted cars. Bertha is wearing her hat covered in a froth of violets again! I maybe saw the hat 6 times in all. The pink straw pill box was a favorite of mine, and the navy blue with white piping around the edge of the brim and on the crown, worn witn spectator pumps. These were the old ladies wearing their duds from the 30's and 40's and boy were they lovely. There weren't alot, but they were great.
Wonderful video, Angela! You have such a deep appreciation for past items and the people who owned them. No one I know really relishes great vintage pieces that were well made and last the test of time! Love your channel.
I discovered your sewing vids last year I think, but I came back to your videos just this week out of the blue, to find you dressing a lot more vintage style, amd I’ve been super curious about when and how that came about! I have to say I really appreciated this video - I’m a knitter and sewer and I’m a vintage fan, but I also use a wheelchair, a most non-vintage thing indeed, and I am a plus sized petite, larger than the most common vintage sizes. I think I assumed that ladies like you who know how to dress vintage came out of the womb that way, so it’s a comfort and inspiring to hear of your struggles and adventures in deciding to build a vintage wardrobe. I appreciate that you didnt express this as rules but instead as a path of finding what worked for your body and your needs... that makes me feel a new sense of interest in seeing how my interest in vintage works for what I need from my wardrobe! I’m actually interested to go research photos of wheelchair users in the 1940s and 50s to see what ways they had to modify the styles of their day for being seated all the time. I can see the production values in your videos improving so much, way to go!
Ramble away! Love hearing about the journey you are on. I started my vintage fashion passion in my Grandmother's closet and then branched out into thrift and sewing! Bon Voyage!
I absolutely love your videos. I’m not into vintage clothing myself and yet I still love watching to see what others are interested in and how it inspires them. You’re one of the few youtubers I watch who actually seen like a reason person who could even be my friend. Thanks for making this video and I look forward to future ones 😊
I loved hearing about you overcoming your 'bad buying' habits. Over the last 6 months I've become aware of my own bad habits- very similar to yours! I also loved hearing you talk about your ceramics collection and why you love them- you are really sweet!
never apologize for anything in your videos, you could tell me what you had for lunch and talk about it for an hour and I'd watch it happily, I'm always so thrilled when I get the notification for your videos and I watch them the day they come out, of the 100+ people I'm subbed to, you are one of only 3 I have notifications turned on for, always thrilled to see anything you post, content like this or otherwise
Great video. I have a fairly established vintage wardrobe of 4 years. But when I decided to make the change, I definitely wanted it then and there and purchased items that weren’t what I loved, but built my wardrobe. So you aren’t alone there. Now I buy because I think it will be an addition rather then a need. I really enjoy this. I also love the dress you are wearing in it!
I love your videos! Thank you for your insight! I have a bad habit of buying a lot of thrift pieces because they're inexpensive, instead of being smart about pieces that go together. Thank you for putting this video together!
I love your videos, your personality is just delightful. I’ve been wearing vintage pieces (mixed in with modern pieces) for about 11 years now. Try going to Savers/Value Village or Goodwill, if you check often you can find some good pieces. You’re definitely headed in the right direction ☺️
Your hairstyle and makeup are perfect for the period, and that dress is gorgeous!! I'm old enough to remember, very well, the style of that time, and the nostalgia is triggered. BTW, your complexion is flawless. You're a very pretty girl, and very charming, and talented. Keep doing what you're doing, cuz you do it so well! 💐
I'm loving this series. Will you ever film a wardrobe tour? I'd love to see all your pieces, which ones work the best for you, and which ones you wish you hadn't gotten. I'd also love to see your collection of hats and accessories!
Fantastic video! I love how you went in depth about your experience and gave so many tips that had lots of substance to them. Fun to watch and informative. I trust your opinion since you know not just about fashion, but the construction of the clothing. Can't wait to see more in this series
You summed up in a short video what many professional stylists and "influencers" can't seem to spit out over entire playlists. I love that you are discovering what makes you happy. Your videos are such a joy and you don't ramble- for which you are always apologizing. You are very articulate and explain your thought processes concisely. You are very interesting.
I love these videos so much. I'd love to see your collection of antiques sometime, I don't know if anyone else is interested in that but I love that stuff.
You always apologize for having ramble videos but they are some of my favorites from You! It's like a podcast with visuals I can get stuff done feel like I learned something and actually seeing what you're talking about is great compared to like a regular podcast.
Please do more videos like this!!! I’ve started to add more vintage pieces to my wardrobe and much like you, 1940s pants were the gateway!!! I enjoy things from 40s-70s and I love billowing pants and your video is so educational for me. If you could do a video on the best way to maintain the clothes that would be so cool!
Excellent advice. I've been been slowly but surely transforming my wardrobe towards a more vintage style for over a year now, and this is encouraging. I too was disappointed with a quality and construction of several things I ordered from Unique Vintage, especially for the price. I'm currently taking sewing lessons with the hope of making some of my own pieces. Your rambling is absolutely helpful, and I look forward to watching more videos from you in the future.
Talking about whether you would realistically put in the effort to make a piece of clothing to go with a purchased piece really hit close to home for me. I have a problem with thrifting where I'll buy a piece because it's cheap and only needs a couple alterations to fit but the reality is that I will probably never get around to actually fixing those issues. I'm glad I'm not the only one who buys things without completely thinking through the practical use. Your video was very relatable
I am building my vintage-inspired wardrobe much slower than you but I still found that I was buying pieces that were exciting but I didn't have anything to wear them with. I had the same problem as you - I forgot about the basics. So I made a list of all the pieces I need to buy or sew myself (I'm a bit of a vintage pattern hoarder) and I'm trying to stick to it. I went through my modern wardrobe and got rid of anything that couldn't be made to look vintage or that didn't fit anymore or that I didn't love. It was a great way to make room for what I hope will be a fun vintage wardrobe in the future. Great video. Keep it up! :)
I'm really glad you decided to talk about this topic. Although I don't wear vintage I do try to make my own clothes and suffer from the buying cheap problem. Your tips on how to plan a wardrobe are very useful and it's motivated me to get to work on my latest projects.
This is an excellent video. I made all of those mistakes and more. When you start wearing vintage clothing or vintage inspired clothes, you have to keep in mind how the clothes drape and what is the proper silhouette for your body shape. Hair and makeup makes a huge difference to a look as well. Not to mention that I now have an obsession with vintage brooches and purses.
I really like how your broke down your process. I've been going through something similar with my own makes and purchases and also love vintage repro shoes as they seem to fit my feet better and last longer than the vintage ones. The thing I find challenging is making things for events that aren't so practical and only get one use. But I do see those as creative experiences much like you show with your historic costumes and your videos - seeing your process and results, confirm to me the importance of the process and exercise. I have been selling the pieces I will definitely NOT wear again, in my etsy shop and that has helped with the expenses. Once, again, thank you for sharing. I'm really enjoying watching all of your videos and have even become a Patr(e)on!
My absolute best vintage purchase is a black wool pencil skirt WITH POCKETS that I got for $2 at Goodwill. It's probably from the Eighties but it reads very Midcentury when I pair it with a homemade blouse and some killer shoes.
This is really good advice in general. I've been slowly trying to transition my wardrobe into something more environmentally conscious and less excessive, and while I've had no problem getting rid of pieces I know I won't wear, I'm having trouble getting myself to find pieces that I want. Or need. I know that I've been needing to update my basics (specifically, the tank tops that I have don't fit well) and I've been putting that off FOREVER And whenever I do go shopping, I do find myself having the most luck when I have what I'm looking for in mind already, when I'm thinking about what I already have, and what I have an use for. For me, personally, I think the hardest part is going to be getting myself to stop buying things that I only vaguely like because they're cheap. I've definitely bought a lot of garments in the past that aren't well made, or are made from poor quality materials this way, or things that I will only wear under very special circumstances that never come up. I think the only way I'm going to be able to have an ethical, well curated wardrobe full of things things that I like is to think critically about the items I'm adding to it.
This video was exactly what I needed! EXACTLY! I love your style and I’m a similar size and shape so I love to hear your advise! I’ve just started my own collection! I love your Chanel!!
This is really helpful! I'm kind of at the stage you were at a few months ago with trying to quickly change my wardrobe to a more vintage style. I do tend to like certain vintage reproduction brands more than you do, but I definitely will take a lot of this advice to heart! I have been having trouble actually buying things I can wear on a regular basis, so I find myself just always wearing my more modern clothes while the vintage inspired pieces sit in my closet.
This is so good advice for anyone changing their style. I'm finally slowly getting into Rockabilly but I choose very carefully what I buy because it's tempting to buy the flashy sexy cocktail-dresses when really you need good jeans and sweaters for every day life. Love this series and your style.
Oh! I would love to see a tutorial or just a watch me sew for those shorts! I don’t have the best luck with shorts because of my body type but I’m so nervous to sew my own. You gave me the inspiration to start sewing my own dresses so I’m sure watching you make shorts would be helpful too. Also love the ramble videos. It’s like listening to a friend talk about a subject I really enjoy. :)
Warm welcomes and big hugs are apparently what I do best but Angela is so awesome I can't help but give a great big hello to all who find her I am sending you a spiritual hug as well just because♡♥
Olwen Davis awwwww I feel the love sweetie, I adore spiritual hugs, so thanks for that and I send one right back to you, I give them out all time 😂💛😍, much love to you 🙋🏾🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋💚💚💚🌸
This video was helpful, believe it or not! I am in the process of changing my wardrobe over to vintage-inspired clothing so hearing these experiences is helpful in my own journey to finding pieces to last! Thanks! I love your videos and blog ☺️
I think your video was very interesting and I did watch it all the way through. I can't imagine why anyone would give you a thumbs down, you don't deserve it at all. Yes, I would really like to see the dresses you made. I have been watching you for several years now, and look forward to getting a notification pop-up saying that you have a new video.
I have been dressing in vintage style for a couple of years and my starting wardrobe was completely different to how it is now. I certainly did some of the things you have, just buying something because it's on sale not necessarily because I liked it. I started out with a lot of pieces but nothing to go with. At the start, I didn't really know what type of vintage dressing I wanted to do so I just got bits of everything which I wish I didn't because I could have brought nicer items. I realized I had to step back and think about the style I prefer and started getting items that I really wanted in my wardrobe and also what I needed (like a white knit top or a black cocktail dress). I think everyone has to learn the lessons on their own, they don't tend to sink in if you just get told. I loved the video, I really relate to your problems :)
I'm currently planning on redoing my wardrobe in the next year or so, it's not going to strongly vintage inspired, but so many of these tips can applied to anyone restarting their wardrode! thanks so much and I love your style!
First, I've been watching you for a few years now and I love the growth in both your channel content and your confidence. I remember videos with you barely in them (only your hands) and captions, and now you are doing lovely chatty videos! Second I love these types of videos because they are very relaxing and almost ASMR-ish. I like to put them on and do colouring on my iPad and just listen to your thought process. Keep up the great work, and can't wait for what's to come!
You made a great change quick! I've been slooooooowly building up my wardrobe over the last couple of years as I figured out the silhouette that I prefer on me :) I also like vintage inspired so I often make up vintage style patterns with fun prints like harry potter and unicorns XD my wardrobe is almost perfect in terms of me being able to have "lazy" days and still have the right style XD but you're so right about basics! I've only just started realizing that I was having trouble mixing the busy skirts and busy tops! I LOVE that mustard sweater, if you want to sell it, I'd be interested as I have a couple of dresses with mustard details in them that would work 😂😂 mustard is one of my favorite colors the only thing I need to work on is my hair, which I struggle with because I'm allergic to hair products. But you are looking top notch! Thanks for your tips
Please make more venturing into vintage videos! 😀 i made the same mistake as in failing to check if pieces I ordered would go with pieces I already had. Love the dress you're wearing, it looks absolutely stunning!
thank you for making this video!! I feel like I always see people with these amazing, cohesive wardrobes but with no practical information on how to achieve that yourself if thats something that you're interested in other than "just start." So these videos are really helpful, even if the style you're looking to achieve isn't anywhere close to vintage! Keep it up!
You mentioned more than once that you were "rambling". I just want to tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this video! You are delightful:)
This made me realise that what I need in my wardrobe to wear more vintage-inspired clothing (which I want to) is a pair of trousers. I LOVE dresses and that's what I've been looking for when I want to dress more vintage, but when I wear modern clothing I tend to wear jeans and other trousers more often than dresses and skirts. Mainly because I live in a very cold country and dresses (even if I wear thick tights underneath) are not very practical in the winter. Basically, I have made the same mistake as you and only looking at the garments that bring me most joy and forgetting the basics that would make me able to wear the clothes and the style on a regular basis. Atm my vintage-inspired wardrobe mostly contains of pieces that I have inherited by my grandmother, which means a lot of blouses and skirts, a few dresses and absolutley no trousers.
This is such a helpful video! I'm in the process of moving away from Fast Fashion brands and moving towards buying vintage or smaller brands. I would love to see sort of a look book-style video about some of your favorite pieces and outfits just to see how far you've come!!
I'm very much like you in the "dive in head first" thing. When I set my mind on something, I have to do it and it has to go right. If I am in some way delayed or halted, it just ruins the tempo of things and can quickly diminish my enthusiasm. I'm an all or nothing perfectionist. It definitely has its pros and cons.
I’m so excited about the fish dress! I love your outfit in this video and especially love the yellow nail polish. Looking forward to more of this series! :)
Regardless of your interest in vintage, this is a really, really helpful video about wardrobe assessment. I had these same missteps and learning curves as a knitter. It took me a long time to a) look at my wardrobe and assess what stuff I actually wear and b) figure out how to make sweaters etc. that actually fit into my wardrobe and the style I want (instead of just making stuff I think look fun to make).
I’m only just starting to wear something like 50s pinup style, and while I’m trying to be careful about building a wardrobe that works, it’s important to me that I have the option to wear my chosen aesthetic every day without too much trouble. Right now I only have maybe four tops that fit the look, which isn’t enough for a functional wardrobe for me. So admittedly I did just spend quite a lot of money on just basic summer tops, but I did try to be thoughtful about it and choose pieces that are versatile and can be worn with many different items I already own!
While I don't do vintage style myself (personal feel like I'm modern clothes inspired by vintage kind of gal), I love hearing about the process of creating vintage wardrobes! I think it's so important to have a wardrobe that makes you feel confident and happy, which is what vintage style seems to do! If you need some vintage style inspiration and haven't found her RUclips already, I'd reccommend Jessica Kellgren-Fozard's channel. She has great videos about her vintage style and how she does it, plus it's full of beautiful clothes. Can't wait to see more videos in this seires and all the new outifts you sew!
Hi Angela I would recommend you look at Sew over it London Patterns. They are really quite vintage inspired and I think they are the silloete that you chose already. They are not authentic vintage but they are definitely vintage inspired.
The two sweaters you showed would go really well with the brown pants that you showed first in the video, plus the sweater with the strawberries on it! I have discovered that with vintage pieces that I would spend some time on the weekends pairing different tops with bottoms to figure out what goes with what, and also went a little out of my comfort zone by looking up on Pinterest for unique color combinations.
I just bought a pair of Royal Vintage saddle shoes after finishing this video. Sure, they're expensive even on sale (especially shipping to Europe!!), but I rationalised it through all the steps you mentioned: I absolutely love them, they are just what I am looking for - flat, sporty yet cute, supposedly comfy - and probably most importantly, they will replace my go to sneakers when I am wearing my vintage outfits, and they go with everything I own. With the same rationale I also talked myself out of getting the oxfords, even though they were $90 off! They just wouldn't have added anything to my wardrobe! This is my first real vintage inspired pair of shoes, and it will go a long way towards making me actually wear my vintage clothes. Thank you for your video :)
I've been building up a 50s style wardrobe over the past year or so and the pieces I've used the most are a pair of high waisted black pants (I think from unique vintage?) and a black A-line skirt from a thrift shop, because those two items go with pretty much every top I own! I've also bought a lot of fun brooches, mostly from thrift stores, and they can really change the feel of an outfit, plus I always get great reactions from other people (:
I would love to see kind of a “look book” or how you mix and match your pieces to get the most out of your wardrobe.
Great advice on not just buying things to buy them, or because they are inexpensive. I have been SO guilty of that, but am actively trying to right my ways. Good that you have come to this realization years before I have. Great videos! Keep up the great work.
Exactly
Angela Clayton I love your make up!
I actually took my measurements so I would be less intimidated purchasing clothes online. I find this series really inspirational.
Podrías colocar subtitulos en español gracias
I found this very educational. You gave us a lot of very good information for consideration.
Ramble away all day everything you said makes a lot of sense lots of love and hugs from the UK
“Replace most worn items first” is brilliant advice!
I have many dresses from the 1940's that I have had for almost 40 yrs and still love wearing them.
Angela, never second guess your presentation. This was so enjoyable and the suggestions and thought process you went through illustrates personal growth and a healthy dose of your own style/confidence emerging. Thank you for the gift of your talent. :)
Robin R. I second that angela your doing great
Well that was just perfectly put and I second that wholeheartedly :)
I would love to see the pieces you've made to fit into your current wardrobe as well as a tutorial on the shorts.
@Juelz Kristian
What’s with these comments, that’s the 6th one I’ve seen. And one of them was on a top gear video.
I love how these tips apply not only to a vintage wardrobe, but to any thought-out wardrobe...
It was a truly helpful video, I love it!
Angela, you are a treasure. It is lovely to watch your videos. You are genuine, and inspiring.
I'm definitely the kind of person who can never have too much of a basic item in my wardrobe, I own so many turtle necks
(I wear 1970s menswear ) and a lot of them are similar colors but I wear them almost every day.
Angela you are doing a fabulous job, good for you for sticking to doing what you enjoy, looking forward to more of your work
I discovered your sewing vids last year I think, but I came back to your videos just this week out of the blue, to find you dressing a lot more vintage style, amd I’ve been super curious about when and how that came about!
Rambling can be a good thing! You shared your experiences, thoughts, ideas, and insights. None of those are bad things!
I absolutely love these videos! Your voice is so soothing to listen to and it's wonderful to see you get passionate about the things you enjoy.
Those half hats are divine! The fish fabric is gorgeous!
My absolute best vintage purchase is a black wool pencil skirt WITH POCKETS that I got for $2 at Goodwill. It's probably from the Eighties but it reads very Midcentury when I pair it with a homemade blouse and some killer shoes.
I adore this blue dress you are wearing. I'm glad it was mostly talking because i just enjoyed how you look in this lovely ensemble.
Love hearing your thoughts about vintage. Great job
This is really good advice in general. I've been slowly trying to transition my wardrobe into something more environmentally conscious and less excessive, and while I've had no problem getting rid of pieces I know I won't wear, I'm having trouble getting myself to find pieces that I want.
Or need. I know that I've been needing to update my basics (specifically, the tank tops that I have don't fit well) and I've been putting that off FOREVER
And whenever I do go shopping, I do find myself having the most luck when I have what I'm looking for in mind already, when I'm thinking about what I already have, and what I have an use for.
The Pinup Companion has some very good tutorials about faking vintage, making modern look vintage.
I love her
Her channel name is now Rachel Maksy, if anyone is interested😁
This is so good advice for anyone changing their style. I'm finally slowly getting into Rockabilly but I choose very carefully what I buy because it's tempting to buy the flashy sexy cocktail-dresses when really you need good jeans and sweaters for every day life. Love this series and your style.
I would love love LOVE to see a video on your makeup routine/ selections.
I love adding vintage silk scarves to my outfits for that pop of color, splash of class, and of course, that wonderful sheen and texture!
Hey sweetie, I just found your channel and subscribed. Love your channel, looking forward to seeing more wonderful videos.🙋🏾🌸🦋🌸🌸💛
Kim T. Durr you won't regret subscribing Angela is wonderful I subbed around Christmas and have been happily binge watching ever since
Olwen Davis hey love, wow thanks so much sweetie, I believe you, I’m so excited that I found her, thanks for the warm welcome, 🙋🏾🌸🦋💛
Warm welcomes and big hugs are apparently what I do best but Angela is so awesome I can't help but give a great big hello to all who find her I am sending you a spiritual hug as well just because♡♥
Olwen Davis awwwww I feel the love sweetie, I adore spiritual hugs, so thanks for that and I send one right back to you, I give them out all time 😂💛😍, much love to you 🙋🏾🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋💚💚💚🌸
I'd love to hear more about your most worn items! I enjoyed listening to your thought process.
Id love to see a bedroom tour with you showing all of your antiques!😍😍
This video was helpful, believe it or not! I am in the process of changing my wardrobe over to vintage-inspired clothing so hearing these experiences is helpful in my own journey to finding pieces to last! Thanks! I love your videos and blog ☺️
I think your video was very interesting and I did watch it all the way through. I can't imagine why anyone would give you a thumbs down, you don't deserve it at all. Yes, I would really like to see the dresses you made. I have been watching you for several years now, and look forward to getting a notification pop-up saying that you have a new video.
I'm just now venturing into vintage too and was so excited when I saw your first video so its super cool to see an update!!
Vintage clothing!!!
This helped a lot especially knowing I wasn’t the only one having trouble with all this! Thank you and i’m so glad I found your channel!
I'm currently planning on redoing my wardrobe in the next year or so, it's not going to strongly vintage inspired, but so many of these tips can applied to anyone restarting their wardrode! thanks so much and I love your style!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT FISH FLORAL DRESS YOU MADE!!!! Its PERFECT!!!!
AAAHHHHHH that yellow sweater!!! Oh my gosh can I have it?? It makes my heart so happy. Lol. You have fabulous taste my dear!
I LOVE that mustard sweater, if you want to sell it, I'd be interested as I have a couple of dresses with mustard details in them that would work 😂😂 mustard is one of my favorite colors
the only thing I need to work on is my hair, which I struggle with because I'm allergic to hair products.
But you are looking top notch! Thanks for your tips
Please make more venturing into vintage videos! 😀 i made the same mistake as in failing to check if pieces I ordered would go with pieces I already had. Love the dress you're wearing, it looks absolutely stunning!
Loved watching the video and love your wardrobe some gorgeous clothes
thank you for making this video!!
I love the blouse you’re wearing in the video. So pretty!
I love watching your videos 😊 excited to see more if your vintage adventures!!!
Just wanted to add that the video description is super helpful too, especially your etsy search process!
I would love to see more videos in this series! I'm also thinking about getting into mid century fashion and these videos are so interesting!
That fish dress is spectacular!! 😄💖
