Now you mention it I want to see midnight edited now to have random clips of donna getting a massage/pedicure etc etc. Like the doctors being dragged out then suddenly donna lying down relaxing with cucumber over her eyes for 5-10 seconds then back to the doctor being dragged. It wouldn't improve the episode and probably make it worse but I'd like to just see it now

Could we not also say Blink breaks away from the typical formula as well? Doc and Martha basically have the regular episode offscreen whilst we follow a protagonist who we have never met before or see again. Sparrow seems to have multiple companions but two get Angled before the ep sticks with one. Yes I suppose the Angels are a typical villain at least in terms of motive: they want to steal the tardis. But even when it comes to saving the day, on surface level it seems the Doctor saves Sparrow and co. But technically Sparrow instructed the Doctor, who then in instructed Sparrow, who then told the Doctor, who then informed Sparrow, who then Bootstrap, bootstrap, bootstrap....
Which of course means, does the text above matter? Considering Heaven Sent is the superior episode to Blink... probably not :P

@@troytab6089 I thought of Love and Monsters in this context. Then I tried to erase it from my thoughts.
I can't remember why DT and BP were unavailable (filming on location or something?) but Blink demonstrates that you can, with some imagination, get round that, just as when Bill Hartnell was ill, they made the Doctor invisible (a prank by the Celestial Toymaker). In those days, shows were live, and took up 50 weeks a year. Even the most dedicated actors need family time, holidays, etc, so scripts were written with one or more of the main cast missing, or "somewhere else".
It's still done on soaps, Aaron Dingle "in Italy" because Danny Miller was, irl, on paternity leave and in the "Jungle" for I'm a Celeb.

Actually the first Doctor Who story to run past the watershed was the TV Movie which ran in a 90 minute slot starting at 8.30. This late start time didn't prevent the episode being cut for violence (bizarrely the BBFC decided that the VHS release had to have the same cuts). That really is handsome wallpaper. Anyhow I agree with the sentiment that Dr. Who should jump from from high concept to low concept episodes. You can have both honestly. Also the Nielsen rating system is total crapshoot. It's why I dislike focus groups.

can we all agree to pretend Hell Bent never happened afterwards? The whole "don't worry, Clara becomes immortal instead" thing robs Face the Raven and Heaven Sent of their drama, tension, and meaning. It was a decision borne of Moffat's inability to put his characters through anything hard or hurt them

Her death is a fixed point in time, she has to return at some point. At the end, she says, "We're going to Gallifrey the long way around" meaning she's still gonna die but first she's gonna have some fun

she left the show on happy terms, she's now functionally immortal. the drama of her death was undone - whatever handwavey excuse Moffat made for it is immaterial - her death was an impactful moment and then that moment was rendered irrelevant

@@irrevenant3 with a setup that is difficult to believe at best, so the master can just snoop in the archives and find it that easily? An execution of this sort of twist that is far better that I can think of to compare to would be (spoilers for The Boys season 3)
Homelander confirming his father is Soldier Boy, that worked because this was something orchestrated by the people at the head of Vought and Homelander was able to find this information by taking that authority.

I personally didn't have a problem with that aspect of it.
The Master has a ton of experience with the Matrix from past serials, and is uniquely obsessed with the Doctor. If anybody was going to find an obscure record in the Matrix and realise it referred to the Doctor, it would be him.

@@demon_hawkeye5269 the Master finding obscure information in the Matrix isn't at all out of character. In fact, you can basically sum the Master's entire character over the last 6 decades as a kind of spy version of Tyrion Lannister - he wears disguises and he knows things.
