I watched an eye surgery (lateral rectus recession, I think) and I was so scared / disturbed I started tearing up! But I decided I might as well get rid of my squeamishness and get a deeper understanding so I watched this video and it is extremely helpful, thank you! I have a question though, I learned that we have a pigmented retina layer under the regular clear retina. What or where is this? When I saw the tapetum I thought that was the pigmented retina but it isn't!

I can remember passing the lens around and looking through it at writing on a piece of paper. It worked just like a magnifying glass. It's amazing to me how well I remember that.

I think, from what I've read, that the RPE is responsible for the black colour you see on the choroid. It is not present where there is tapetum.
