Wow ! This man deserves an applause. Our teacher like every other teacher in anatomy class rushes through the material because its an intensive course... but you don't really learn anything except outside study. I am glad this man took 20 mins of his class to teach what is now to me truly is the basics of the eye (which seemed really difficult for self study until I watched this video). Thank you so much !
I looked for animated videos to teach my 6 yearl old child about the eye but this was the clearest video out there. No animation, no background music but she understood everything! This is teaching at its best. Thank you for posting.

I never though of the iris as a circle, thank you for elucidating. We need to always remember the geometry is spherical, and we are dealing with a unique coordinate space of the inside of a sphere. This influences the geometry of all the structures especially the neural layer. Nice emphasis on what are transducers. very interesting that the pigmented layer continues far forward. Why would you hypothesis the pigmented layer evolved all the way forward to the iris in the mammalian eye? Perhaps it plays multiple roles. I wish you had touched on the ganglionic layer, but that may too advanced for this lecture. Bravo. Very basic structure of eyeball indeed. I'm going to watch your other videos.
