Robert Watson really. Do you take a sonter down Buchanan street and think. Aye: theses are my people lol. Ya mad fanny. Or watch braveheart and think. Aye: this mad Australian makes me proud. Or perhaps you like a bit of New Years tv and think. Aye . Proud of you all. Am not really proud of a nation with so much divide, from politics to religion. It’s a sick nation. I was in Scotland with a friend and her daughter. I'm 65 and she's 63.....we love Scotland and believe it is not just for "young" people. Also, when I was your age I was a teacher in Germany and Austria....love those countries as well!
I agree - I first went to Scotland at 70 with my mate at 65. It was fantastic! I will say that mobility is necessary given the hills and steps you'll encounter but a working hip and 'can-do' spirit is all you need. What the host here didn't mention is the genuine warmth of Scottish people - they are fantastic. You might struggle to understand a few of the folks but keep at it , it is (mostly) English!
I am actually planning on going to Scotland this year. It's been on my bucket list for so long. Iceland was another on the list and I went there last year. It's so close to Scotland from Iceland that I made it next on my list. And also my heritage on my father's side is Scottish.
Hi Stephanie. You are very erudite and knowledgeable about Scotland, so thanks for that (as a Scotsman). I think VisitScotland owes you for your evangelism and enthusiasm! 'Haste ye back' - you will always be made welcome.
Just came across your vlog , coming from Scotland i found your 10 reasons really accurate and full of great information. I’m glad you love our wonderful country it makes me really proud to hear such positive vibes 💚
I was born in the highlands and moved to Glasgow when I was 14, it's impressive to hear your opinions and experiences which are genuine and accurate. Irn-Bur is indeed the best-kept secret hangover cure. But you definitely have to try haggis one day ;)
Totally agree with you about haggis. Maybe best not reading the ingredients first, but it's fantastic stuff. I'd describe it as tasting spicy and nutty. Perfect food for Winter!
I enjoyed your approach for this video. I am Borikua/American, born and raised in the states. I am seriously looking into visiting Scotland for relocation reasons. Nature and dramatic weather, along with good people are my main points for going.
I love being Scottish. Its easy to forget how beautiful our country is and become complacent almost. This was a lovely reminder for me to get out there and explore again. Thank you. Im happy you see and love Scotland too ,x
Very entertaining and informative, Stephanie! You have heard this before, but you are the best! (Couldn't resist!) Planning a Scotland vacation for 2019, and your information was extremely engaging, and the humor was well placed. You have a new subscriber!
If nobody minds, I would just like to make one addition. My hometown is Edinburgh, where I was born and raised, and left at age 17 years for the civil service in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. At age 18, I had to do two years national service in the RAF, and was fortunate enough to be posted to RAF Kinloss, in Morayshire, Scotland, which I would probably never have seen, without national service. Anyway, I HAVE to bring up a part of Scotland, which is seldom mentioned, and that would be the BORDERS ! All the way from Berwickshire to Wigtownshire is magic, with smashing scenery, and people. It isn't too touristy. and, perhaps, the locals prefer it that way, but you will still get a great welcome. I just think that the BORDERS are very special, and deserve a mention.
As a Scot, I think we're exceptionally friendly, to our visitors. We're a very inclusive, culture. If you have enough cash, we can even make you, your own individual tartan. How cool is that? But there are some truly beautiful places in American and Canada, too.
Wow, great video. It’s great to get a perspective of Scotland from a non Scot, your passion for Scotland is wonderful. I think a job with the Scottish Tourist Board beckons in you want it.
27/12/2021 I hope you have tried haggis now. It is beautiful. Secret is to eat small quantities I.e. ice cream scoop size. Chicken breast stuffed with haggis will blow your mind. Soft mashed potatoe + mashed turnip and haggis is wonderful.
What a wonderful DVD.I am a Scot of 73 years, living in Bristol for 45 of them. I could not have made a better job of extolling the attractions of Caledonia.
Really love your enthusiasm for Scotland and look forward to more vids..always the way we seam to learn more about our country from those not from these isles..happy world touring 😊
0:42 - Youse - LOL! Movie - Gregory's Girl! You got Glasgow right, but 4:29 - Edin-Burra 6:22 - Haggis Scotticus (East Coast) is much tastier than Haggis Caledonius (West Coast). It's much leaner, as they get to run around the highland more up around John O'Groats. They have very sharp teeth though, so be careful. Because of a leg length difference (that has formed over the millenniums) you need two people to catch a Wild Haggis - one to make it run the other way, and other at the bottom of the hill, with a burlap sack. I love your enthusiasm and energy. Great advocate for tourism and exploring new places.
great video , i decided to go to edinburgh on my rotation time off here in the oil fields of north dakota , im blessed to have time and money to travel , ill be going to scotland in january , london is my favorite place but i think edinburgh will take its place , thanks for your energy in this video , makes me look forward to the trip
Im scottish too, but live down south at the momment. My familly live in the Skye area and further north too. I noticed that alot of people that visit the area miss out on some other beautifull spots not really mentioned by anyone I have seen visiting the area. My familly did bed and breakfast for tourists. Also the village of Plockton where the televison series called Hamish Mcbeth is based starring Robert Carlyle. Six miles away from Skye (my sisters middle name lol). Also that area was tropical at one point as the mexican gulf stream used to sweep up that part of the coast and made natural palm trees grow there. They are few in numbers as over the years since the gulf stream changed. Also just on the edge of the village of Plockton is a coral beach hidden, which not many people know about. On the Isle of Skye their is a sheepskin rug shop. Their from sheep that naturally died (not killed). They cost £100 roughly and up. Duncraig crags is a hidden area only local people really know. There are lochs on the top of the mountain. Also the Applecross pass is a must go (highest road in Britain). It goes straight up to the top of the mountain.
Saving up my $ for a trip to Scotland. Got a Feelin its not cheap, and i want to have fun there. But yep, definitely gonna go. Have ancestors from Scotland.
if you want to just go over the viaduct and want it to be a bit cheaper, just take a train along the west highland way as it goes along the exact same route but in a normal train.
Actually J K Rowling didn’t write the first Harry Potter novel in the Elephant Café, she wrote it in what is now a Chinese Restaurant in Nicolson Street.
Just got back from my first trip to Scotland Nov. 16-22, 2019 and it was the BEST times and vacation EVER in so many ways! I could live there in a heartbeat! You're incredible too!
Another couple of movies you may like set in Scotland from the Director Bill Forsyth, Gregory's Girl and Local Hero. Films I loved growing up and still do today.
Or you could watch a good one.......... Watch shallow grave. Ewan mcgreggor before trainspotting. Same director as trainspotting. Possibly his finest movie .
We have a stunning country thank you welcome back Any time hen xx it's currently wet and windy and the river clyde looks beautiful is out horrible weather lol xx
I'm from Scotland And just like many others i love one country imparticular That is Australia But when i hear people say they love Scotland it makes me feel proud because our country is small and not many people know of it but when people visit it they say it's amazing That makes me feel pround
We recently uncovered a new castle in Scotland, one that was rumored to be there but no one could find, Partick castle on the banks of the rivers Kelvin and Clyde. It was uncovered during building works to create new halls of residence for overseas students, ironically enough. There was a huge battle close to there by the forces of Mary, Queen of Scots and her brother, Regent Moray. The battle of Langside. No one knew why the street I live in was called Regent Moray, some folks had vague ideas and virtually no one remembers who he was. I've done some research and he was a man of his times. Not very nice. The warrior spirit and clansmanship still lives. Galgael is my clan and my family and we have people from all over the world. I'd love you to be a member: www.galgael.org/
my faither was from glasgow and he told me that he learned in school that a particular battle in glasgow probably laingside where she said palmadie 'paul may die' but ill mount florida, she had two horses named that,my da said there are two places in glasgow called palmadie and mount florida
Glad you like Scotland we should be more proud of where we come from. I love living here too as the we have great nature trails and scenery also history. I live near Glasgow which isn’t so nice ( my area ) but when you venture out it’s a beautiful country 😀
Love your explanation for waterfalls🤣 but great that you enjoyed your stay and I don’t think we need a tourist board when we have people like you encouraging people to visit.
Love your description of John Muir.....he seems to have done more for American than for Scotland! Please - it isn't Edinborgho its Edinburgh! You should try haggis, it is fantastic. I am really impressed on your appreciation of the clan system. This is the best description of Scotland i have encountered and a really succinct description of my country. For someone that cannot pronounce Edinburgh you have done a fantastic job and a fantastic review.
John Muir (the guy who persuaded Teddy Roosevelt to create Yellowstone park) was from Dunbar, a small harbour town on the coast about 30 miles east of Edinburgh. My family live there. It's worth a visit!
Love the enthusiasm for my country but it does not surprise me as it really is magical in many ways. It was always a joy coming back in my many years of travel, there is nowhere remotely like it for its natural beauty. Haste ye back lassie.
I used to live next to a University so I'd meet a lot of foreign students in the pubs, Americans were always amazed that Scottish people are known as "Jocks".
I want to live and die there! But I wouldn't want to die there too soon! I would want to have a life there! It's the most beautiful country that I've ever seen!💞
Excellent video, and excellent presenter! Well done maith thú. Come to Ireland sometime, you'd be most welcome!! Would love to hear you do a video comparing and contrasting your impressions of both closely related countries! So I will subscribe in the hope that you might decide to do just that!! Slán :)
Enjoyable vid and love your enthusiasm. Come back soon! You're half right about the expansion of education since the 60s but wrong to state that Scotland's ancient Unis were just for the wealthy. Remember that, from the 16th Century, Scotland had 5 Unis (if you regard King's and Marischal Colleges in Aberdeen as separate establishments) whereas England (with about 10x the population) only had 2. Education in Scotland has always had an egalitarian aspect to it.
Some things about Scotland which are maybe not known, for such a small population, the accent and even dialect can change within just a few miles, it's also a cosmopolitan country and being Scottish can also mean having asian decent, half german, part english etc. Some of the 'clan' stuff and tartan is a bit designed and it's sense of culture is more ancient and also very forward at the same time.
If it's Scotland's history you're interested in then you should have a look at what we're accredited for inventing. The world today would not be what it is without them
You must watch 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' starring Maggie Smith, an absolute classic! PS have you actually been to 'Edinboro' and where is it, as a Scot I'd love to find it on a map? I studied for 4 years in Edinburgh.
Everything you said about my beloved homeland is true, but don't tell everybody. You are right about tourism though. If you sit outside a cafe in Edinburgh you can have a game of "What's that language" as you listen to the tourists walk by. So when do you start with the tourist board?
If you're on a driving holiday in the UK you can have a few "sherberts" and be perfectly legal next day BUT stray into Scotland, get breathalysed, and you could be looking at cold hard cell of the nearest police station. Their alc limit is 50mg, 80mg south of the border. Be warned and avoid a potential disaster.
Hi Stephanie, massive hello from Glasgow 🙂 Your video was great, so entheusiastic and optimistic. I'm so happy you had a lovely time over here...may you have many more. Scotland welcomes you with open arms. Keep making the great videos 👍
Scotland was once tropical, and with the planets rotation it will some day (millions of years from now) be tropical again. When that time comes all the tropical countries today will be like the arctic, covered in ice and snow, this is the planets natural order of things.
cool video Steph, just came across it, you forgot to mention how mad we are on Sports, football, rugby, horse racing et al, no pub discussion is ever held without someone mentioning a sporting match up and there will never, ever be an agreed result, as it should be
Awesome Job Stephanie! Yes, Scotland is hands down my most favorite place to visit. I visited in 2007 and about 6 more times since - most recently June of 2019. Had another 2 week trip planned this past May but alas COVID. Weather is iffy and can be cold even in May/June 50's 60's. I love nature, animals, gorgeous scenery, and the Scottish culture- people so so kind and gracious always- hospitality THEE BEST. The land, the forests, the woods are truly MAGICAL and unlike anything in the US. it is an unspoiled land. The rich history is amazing. The pubs, yes the Scotch, food is getting better, Haggis is good but I'm off meat.. Couple of other great shows filmed in Scotland: Hamish MacBeth, Stone of Destiny, Case Histories, Great Estates of Scotland, Local Hero (one of my favorites!), Rob Roy, The Water Horse, of course Braveheart. Cheers!
Hey Stephanie, I loved your video thank you for your kindness and generosity towards our beautiful country. You asked your viewers to add any points they love about Scotland to, I love the fact we have 75% the land mass of England but with less than 10% of their population. The untapped resources our country has in terms of potential growth and development are phenomenal. We have just over 50% the income from tourism England has, the future for Caledonia is very bright, bring on independence. Oh! Just a little note also, the colour of blue for a Saltire should be a pale to mid sky blue, there is a correct pantone shade for it.
They're talking about imposing a tourist tax to reduce the impact tourism is having on the country. It wont get to a point where the country is overrun.
Learned a lot from this book. They failed to mention "The Scottish Renaissance " when I was at school (long time ago). Hope its on the curriculum today!! Young Scots should know about the part their forebears played in helping forge the modern world. Einstein had a photo of James Clark Maxwell on his wall !!!!!!
Ireland Filming Locations Braveheart was filmed in: Bray, County Wicklow Ballymore Eustace, County Kildare Bective Abbey, County Meath Curragh Plains, County Kildare Dunsany Castle, County Meath Dunsoghly Castle, County Dublin King John's Castle, County Meath Luggala Estate, County Wicklow Sally's Gap, County Wicklow Trim Castle, County Meath The Curragh, County Kildare Looks like your the clown on the Bucky pal.........
Stephanie.......I believe that Scotland is the only country in the world where Coca Cola is not the number one carbonated drink, its Irn - Bru, the other national drink !
Films shot in Scotland you missed: Highlander Local Hero Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame (New Asgard) Under The Skin Rob Roy MacBeth Sunshine on Leith Etc...
I’m glad you made this video, but I can’t help to say it’s Pronounced Edin bruh not edinboro. You lived here, surely you can get it right. Other than that happy you loved it so much, truely is one of the most beautiful countries in the world 👍
Nah!! It's more like Edin-burra, like other people have said on here. Actually it's even more like "Aiden-burra"!! Good old Scots!! Love their rustic "richness"!!
Interesting to hear about Scotland from a non Scot. I’m a Scot and proud of my people and country 👍
We separate children at 5-6 years olds and the division begins.
I’m more of a Mark Renton view of Scotland. It’s shite
If you are a man living in Iraq or Afghanistan you will likely live longer than the average Scotsman.
Proud of ye all........
duncancallum neculeared that’s a new one for me. As for “you cunts“
Will that be the majority of the Scottish population that inhabit the central belt you are talking about?
As for the west being divided, take a look around pal: the world is divided, scotland is divided; the uk is divided, Europe is divided.....
you just seem like a bit of an angry frustrated man. One who doesn’t know quite where he belongs.
So be honest with yourself , who do you side with in society? Everyone has an opinion my friend. When you get a bit older and wiser you might realise that
@@duncancallum you're a bit of a prick aren't you.
Euan scotland well said son
I was in Scotland with a friend and her daughter. I'm 65 and she's 63.....we love Scotland and believe it is not just for "young" people. Also, when I was your age I was a teacher in Germany and Austria....love those countries as well!
That's interesting because I find Bavaria and Austria similar to Scotland mainly because of the scenery :)
Austria is fabulous and their the people are nice as well. And quite normal.

What a sweetheart , Scotland in 15 days for two weeks can't wait for the food the air and the party .
we forget the fun side, if you have a few mins. to spare, try some vids from the series. ' the rev I am Jolly'.
Did you enjoy it?
If nobody minds, I would just like to make one addition. My hometown is Edinburgh, where I was born and raised, and left at age 17 years for the civil service in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. At age 18, I had to do two years national service in the RAF, and was fortunate enough to be posted to RAF Kinloss, in Morayshire, Scotland, which I would probably never have seen, without national service. My great grandfather was Scottish. Maybe that or for a reason I don’t know, I love to visit this country soo much!!!! 🏴🇱🇰♥️

Hi stephanie. Your list missed out the borders. As the highlands are hilly and mountainous the borders are equally as green. Gary
Great to hear you enjoyed your stay in Scotland, hope you come back soon.

Thanks for the clarification! Always happy to learn more about your wonderful country!
Someone I love is from there!💞
Next time your in Scotland, please try Haggis, it's beautiful.!
Haggis?
Sheep's heart and liver?
@@millie_daisy yummy

Hey,its pronounced Edin-burra. Like the australian bird, the Kookaburra.Edin-burra.Much love from here in Scotland.
I do want to come but I will dislike the forecast. But I will come as it is in my bucket list.
If it's Scotland's history you're interested in then you should have a look at what we're accredited for inventing. The world today would not be what it is without them
Nailed it ! 👏👏👏
lovely and beautiful thank you for loving my country
You must watch 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' starring Maggie Smith, an absolute classic! PS have you actually been to 'Edinboro' and where is it, as a Scot I'd love to find it on a map? I studied for 4 years in Edinburgh.
The opening aeroplane scenes in The Dark Knight were filmed over Scotland.
Wonderful video, thank you.
Argyll ....west coast..Stunning
Hi Stephanie, massive hello from Glasgow 🙂
Your video was great, so entheusiastic and optimistic. I'm so happy you had a lovely time over here...may you have many more.
Scotland welcomes you with open arms.
Keep making the great videos 👍
Scotland was once tropical, and with the planets rotation it will some day (millions of years from now) be tropical again. When that time comes all the tropical countries today will be like the arctic, covered in ice and snow, this is the planets natural order of things.
the train is from Malliag to fort William or the other way around
cool video Steph, just came across it, you forgot to mention how mad we are on Sports, football, rugby, horse racing et al, no pub discussion is ever held without someone mentioning a sporting match up and there will never, ever be an agreed result, as it should be
Awesome Job Stephanie!
Next time you are over here visit Peeblesshire you won’t be disappointed 👍
Edin-bruh!!!!!!
I'll be in Scottland endiburgh Aug 7th performance at fringe
Waterfalls - we even have waterfalls where the water goes UP!
Watch the film brave it will help with the accent haha
Its actually Moore. 😉😜😂🤣👌💭💭💭💭🤪😂😂🤣🤣Love it stunning
They're talking about imposing a tourist tax to reduce the impact tourism is having on the country. It wont get to a point where the country is overrun.
One city is talking about introducing a £2.00 or 2.61 dollars tourist tax not the whole country.
Edinboro?. Say it like edinbruh. Great video on my country👍🏼👍🏼
haste ye back.
Have you read the book "How The Scots Invented The Modern World" by Arthur Herman?
Learned a lot from this book. They failed to mention "The Scottish Renaissance " when I was at school (long time ago). Hope its on the curriculum today!! Young Scots should know about the part their forebears played in helping forge the modern world. Einstein had a photo of James Clark Maxwell on his wall !!!!!!
Should check out GLASGOW'S 2 cities city centre and Merchant city🎉🎉🎉
Braveheart was, I think, filmed in Ireland
Ireland Filming Locations
Braveheart was filmed in:
Bray, County Wicklow
Ballymore Eustace, County Kildare
Bective Abbey, County Meath
Curragh Plains, County Kildare
Dunsany Castle, County Meath
Dunsoghly Castle, County Dublin
King John's Castle, County Meath
Luggala Estate, County Wicklow
Sally's Gap, County Wicklow
Trim Castle, County Meath
The Curragh, County Kildare Looks like your the clown on the Bucky pal.........
Braveheart was filmed in Ireland. It's another reason why it was insulting pish and generally despised here in Scotland.
And also filmed in Glen Nevis , so a wee bit truth needs to be said here. @@vfrexup
@@duncancallum speaks truth - I bivvied in one the huts they built for the set. Also recognise bits of Glencoe in the film.
Stephanie.......I believe that Scotland is the only country in the world where Coca Cola is not the number one carbonated drink, its Irn - Bru, the other national drink !
Cool video, got some pretty decent photos. Only criticism is, we call it whiskey... Lol.
Ha! Good to know!
Whiskey is Irish, whisky is Scottish made.
Great video thanks 🙏
Films shot in Scotland you missed:
Highlander
Local Hero
Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame (New Asgard)

Just remember to bring the midge repellent if you go into the countryside. And always, bring a good waterproof jacket.

Blackflies not blacklists
Yeah we have little people walking about anywhere 😂

I’m glad you made this video, but I can’t help to say it’s Pronounced Edin bruh not edinboro. You lived here, surely you can get it right. Other than that happy you loved it so much, truely is one of the most beautiful countries in the world 👍
Nah!! It's more like Edin-burra, like other people have said on here.
Actually it's even more like "Aiden-burra"!! Good old Scots!! Love their rustic "richness"!!
