I'm 27 and only for the last half year or so been slowly realising about my own neurodivergence and how certain addictions I had built up over the years were only just there as a way to mask. So many things falling in place and seeing everything in a new perspective, it's probably been the most overwhelming and exhausting time of my life. I've been on the waiting list for an official diagnosis for months now...
I think I had a similar experience connecting with a book. Mine was The Giver by Lois Lowry, which is kind of the opposite in terms of plot... it's a kid growing up in a world where emotion doesn't exist and diversity has been eradicated. He's the only one who starts to experience the world differently. He's the only one who knows what love feels like, what pain feels like, what colors look like, and he suffers because his experience of life diverges so much from everyone else that he can't relate to anyone anymore. I cried so much at the end of that book I felt sick.
WAIT! I didn't know Anne of green gables was textbook autism! 😱 I loved watching the movies and still have the book on my read list but I still love it
Your content is brilliant, Sydney - I'm so glad I found it and I hope you get more subscribers :). I'm 39 and very possibly about to be diagnosed with ASD later this year so it's been very helpful to have so much insight from people on RUclips who talk so openly and honestly about it. Thank you :).
Considering like what I’ve learned by a BA in the 1980s. I am so grateful that I was raised by ND parents who instinctively knew how to keep me safe and happy.
